    Rescued from the Dark

Lynda Kaye Frazier, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. Let’s talk
about your book, Rescued from the Dark.
    Genre: Romantic Suspense
    Publisher: Black Opal Books
    Blurb:
She has no memory of their love…
Kidnapped by terrorists and sent into a drug-induced coma, FBI
intern Mercedes Kingsley awakes with no memory of her ordeal–or the intimate interlude
that left her pregnant. Convinced her child was fathered by her ex-fiancé, she walks
away from the only man she has ever loved, determined to make things work with her
ex, a man the FBI suspects is implicated in her abduction.
He knows the truth, but no one will listen…
FBI undercover agent Jason Michaels remembers what Mercy can’t
and those memories are breaking his heart. Forced to keep his distance from his
lover and their unborn child, Jason risks his life to protect Mercy from a cell
of international terrorists who have vowed to get the secrets locked in her memory,
no matter the cost. Can Jason convince Mercy to trust him until she remembers their
past, or will he lose her to a man who will trap her in a nightmare world of darkness
from which there is no escape?

    Tell us about your latest
    book.
Rescued from the Dark is about an FBI agent, Jason Michaels who
goes undercover with the Irish Mob to get information on their gun smuggling ring.
While on assignment he realizes they have joined forces with a known terrorist group
manufacturing drugs. He searches for information to tie the two together when he
finds out they have kidnapped a fellow agent and the only girl he has ever loved.
Jason soon realizes their using Mercy to perfect their dosage and that his cover
has been blown. He knows he has to save her so takes off a journey that will take
him up against his enemies, peers and the Agency that he loves, but willing to give
up to bring Mercy back to him.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Rescued from the Dark is the first book in my Guardian’s of Hope
series. It is an eight book series made up of Special Ops, Navy Seals and FBI Agents
who are sanctioned by the government to do rescues they can’t or are not able to
    do due to restrictions.
I am almost finished with the second book, Last Chance to Run
and hope to have it published by the end of the year.
I also have a contemporary, Saving JT in the works and just finished
outlining the remaining books in the Guardian’s series. So many more books in the
    future.
    How many readers/fans
    contact you?
This is my first novel so not a big fan base. Just family and
friends. But that’s a great place to start.
    How much of your personality
and life experiences are in your writing?
Mercy has a lot of my personality built into her character. She
loves coffee, is always late, and is very protective of family and friends. The
only thing we share on life experiences is how enclosed areas bother her. I hate
it when the elevator closes. I swear I hold my breath until it opens again.
    Generally, how long does
it take you to write a book?
It takes two months for me to complete a rough draft. I am still
new to the editing process so I’m slow at it. I think I edit it too much.
Do you have a set schedule
for writing or do you just go with the flow?
My day job takes up a lot of my time so I have set aside my evenings
from 8 to midnight for my e-mails, blog updates and writing. I usually wing it on
the weekends but still try to get at least three hours in front of the computer
    each day.
    What is your writing routine
    once you start a book?
Once I have my characters and plot my book basically writes itself.
I keep a tape recorder on me and when I get an idea I record it and feed it into
my story when I get home. I am always working on my story weather it’s in front
of the computer or recording a thought.
    Where do you start when
    writing? Research, plotting, outline, or…?
I do a short outline then build my characters. Looks, personality
and quirks. Then the story builds around that.
    What about your family,
do they know not to bother you when you are writing – or are there constant interruptions?
My kids are grown and on their own and once my husband is fed
he is happy so the only real interruption I have is when my cats feel like they
need attention and lay across my keyboard.
What do you do to relax
    and recharge your batteries?
I read. I love to read, that’s what started this journey of mine.
It’s my escape. I relax with a few chapters each night.
    What are your thoughts
on love scenes in romance novels? Do you find them difficult to write?
I only have one love scene in my book. There is a lot of sexual
tension but writing that one scene was very difficult for me. Don’t get me wrong,
I love to read erotic and would love to write more but alas my Catholic school background
will not let me. When I’m in the middle of attempting to write one I get a mental
image of the Nuns and Priests telling me to get those evil thoughts out of my head.
Someday I will learn how to kick them out of my head.
    What kind of research
    do you do?
This book dealt with the Irish Mob and a Terrorist cell. I had
many hours on the wide web searching for information so my plot sounded as real
as it could be without hitting sites that would get me flagged by the US Government.
    What does your husband/wife
    think of your writing?
My family is very supportive of my writing.
    Do you ever ask him/her
    for advice?
No, can’t even get him to read my book. He’s only into westerns.
    Please tell us about yourself
    (family, hobbies, education, etc.)
I am Married with five children and three grandchildren. I love
to garden and paint but the one thing you will always catch me doing is reading.
My most favorite place to be is on the beach. I have been known to drive 10 hours
for a day on the sand. I went to college for Respiratory Therapy back in 1979 and
have been a registered ultrasound technician for the last 18 years. I work for a
Cardiology group and can honestly say I love my day job. But I love writing more.
    Who, if anyone, has influenced
    your writing?
I have always had a passion for reading, but the one author that
influenced me into getting published was Cindy Gerard. When I finished writing my
book I had questions so I e-mailed her and she was great. She gave me information
that put me in the right direction. She was very kind and answered every one of
    my dumb questions.
Are you a member of any
author groups – RWA, critique groups, etc.?
I am a member of RWA, Roses Critique group, Savvy Authors, BTS
eMag reviewers, and Marketing for Romance Writers.
What do you think of critique
    groups in general?
I would be lost without my critique group. I love the different
advice I get, and use it as just that, their opinion and advice. I don’t let them
change my voice but their great at catching plot errors, story structures problems
    and flow.
    List two authors we would
find you reading when taking a break from your own writing.
Cindy Gerard and Suzanne Brockman. Love their stories.
    Are there any words of
    encouragement for unpublished writers?
Don’t ever give up. You will get critiques that will make you
cry and rejection letters. Make them building blocks for the career you are building.
    What do you hope readers
take with them after reading your work?
I put on my calendar the date of the next release from the authors
I read. I want to know that someone loved my story and was left needing to know
what happens next so they put my next release date on their calendar.
If you came with a warning
    label, what would it say?
Never engage in activity until coffee has been consumed.
Choose any or all of the
    following.
    Leather or lace? Lace
    Black or red? Balck
Satin sheets or Egyptian cotton? Egyptian cotton

    About the Author

I’m an avid reader of romantic suspense and started writing about
a year ago after a vivid dream. I know, sounds cliché, but that’s how it started.
I work full time at a Cardiology clinic, then at night you will find me in front
of my computer writing. I grew up in Pennsylvania,
but now live in Arkansas, surrounded by the Ozark Mountains where I get to enjoy the four seasons without
a long, cold winter. Other than spending time with my wonderful family, my favorite
things to do are writing, reading and listening to music, but my most favorite is
going to the beach. Surf, sand and a good book, my stress relief. I enjoy Goodreads
because I love to read and enjoy finding new authors and recommending great books
to others. But I am also a Facebook junkie.

    Opposities Attract? @vickibatman #RLFblog

    Opposites Attract?

I come from a family of four girly girls, and my other half comes
from four rough and tumble boys. We have two boys. So yes, the testosterone gets
    thick at my house!
Running out and doing the football thing? Not so much.
Running to the antique mall? Yipee. My men would rather stick
    needles in their eyes. LOL
Sometimes, there are remarkable differences between the opposite
sexes. Check these out (mostly generalities):

    Man                                                                Woman
    Action adventure movie                               Romantic comedy
    Non-fiction books                                         Romance books
    Duck Dynasty                                                HGTV
A fast sportscar, big truck                            A practical SUV
Thick burger and fries                                   Small one with
    ten fries
    Chocolate shake                                           Water
Spit on small cut                                            Antiseptic with bandage
    Large dog                                                      Small
    dog, cat
Ten oz ribeye                                                 4 oz filet
    Loaded baked potato                                   Small salad
    No bread                                                        Bread
    with butter
    No dessert                                                     Anything
    sweet
    Handwash car                                               Car
    wash with vacuum
    Donuts                                                            Multi-grain
    cereal
Surfs through TV commercials                    Reads thru TV commercials
Loves to cook                                                Hates to cook
See? Just from this small list, we notice the big differences.
But isn’t being different a good thing? Would we always want
    to like the same things?
What I notice is how the columns complement each other. Kinda
like a balance. So no, we don’t always like the same things. I don’t always watch
romantic comedies. I adore Indiana Jones and James Bond, but will never be a huge
fan of Duck Dynasty! On occasion, I eat a donut and deny myself dessert, like bad
bread pudding. And my other half loves HGTV. Go figure.
Our characters — usually — imitate real life. Can’t you see
a hunky guy chowing down on humongous steak, and the girl daintily eating a salad
or smaller meal? (And all the while she is secretly thinking “I wish I could
    eat like that.”)
Or our hero lounging on the couch with remote superglued to his
hand while the heroine is about to blow her top because he won’t land on the romantic
comedy? She picks up her HGTV magazine.
Not all of these generalities are hard core true. See the cooking
thingy, for example. My men would rather throw meat on the grill while I like to
gather a couple of things together and “assemble” something to eat.
The truth is if we are identical, we’d bore each other. We want
to be interesting to our other half. To balance and complement each other. And occasionally,
bend our other half’s way because that is what we do in a relationship. We grow,
    live, do.
Let’s add to the list. What are some guy/girl things?

    Interview

If you could change something about your first book, what
    would it be?
I would make it a bit longer and more fleshed out.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
Creating new characters and worlds. I love opening a new word
document and letting my muse take over.
How do you cope with stress as an author?
With lots of coffee and my sounding board, my partner of seven
    years.
Which of your books would you recommend to someone who doesn’t
normally read your genre, and why?
If you enjoy paranormal with romance, then please try my Devon Falls
series. Each book is a new set of main characters but past characters pop up and
help move the story along. I have dream walkers, shifters and soon the fae as well
as elemental mages will be popping in.
What kind of books do you read when taking a break from your
    own writing?
All depends on my mood. Lately I am into fantasy such as Jim
Butcher, Gail Z. Martin and a few others plus my m/m faves such as Sue Brown, Andrew
    grey and more.
What do you think is the future of traditional publishing?
I think traditional publishing is now just seeing how well e-books
are really doing and though late to the party, they are trying to play catch up
even after many years of scoffing at e-books and their popularity. I would love
to see the big six redo their publishing model and make it more relevant to today’s
changing world as well as fighting against e-book pirates.
Imagine you get to go on a dream vacation, but you have only
one hour to pack and leave, and it starts as soon as you finish this interview.
What will you take with you and where will you go?
    Some place warm…maybe Hawaii
since I have never been there. Shorts, bathing suit and maybe my trusty yoga pants
as well as a few pairs of jeans. If money is no object then I am planning to buy
    clothes there. J
What good book have you read recently?
I am loving Gail Z. Martin’s Chronicles of the Necromancer/Fallen
Kings series…wonderful fantasy and in e-books, I loved Andrew Grey’s debut young
adult story, By The Creek under pen name Geoff Laughton. Exquisitely written and
    very heartfelt.
If you were a color, what color would you be?
I am an all shades of blue or purple kind of girl
Please underline which statement is more like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back and relaxed.”
    “I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation, because
I do things as fast as possible.”

    Please complete the sentences

I love pizza with black olives, pepperoni, and mushrooms.
I’m always ready for unexpected company with plenty of coffee
    and cookies around my house.
When I’m alone, I like curling up in my honey’s big easy chair
    and reading on my nook
    .
You’d never be able to tell, but I had over a dozen surgeries
in my teens for cervical spine cancer
    .
If I had a halo it would be hung up on my devil horns.
If I could be anyone I’d be Johnny Depp’s assistant.
I can never have too many books because it’s unnatural
    not to have books IMO
    .

    Interview with Sarelle McGarran

    Tell us about yourself.
    Sar: My full name
is Sarelle McGarran. I live on an old horse farm in New York,
and work part time at a metal fabrication shop. I was a widow when I met Danial
close to a year ago, and we fell in love. Our brief romance combusted pretty spectacularly
after only a few months. With the unwitting help of a friend’s spell, Theo and I
shared a haunting dream. Months later, we began a relationship–
Tell us about the vampire Danial. We hear you’re back with
him, now that Theo is MIA.
Sar (defensive): You’re making it sound like I couldn’t wait
to trade up. That isn’t the case at all! Theo is currently missing, and has been
for several months now. Meanwhile, I’m struggling to raise Theo’s daughter Elle
by myself. She’s a werecougar like he was. Danial has been like a father to her
in the short time he’s been back in my life, and yes, we are moving in with him
shortly. It’s best for Elle, and for me.
What do you think is your strongest point?
Sar (a bit calmer): I think there is nothing I can’t do. I always
give anything I try to do 100%.
What would Theo say is your strongest point?
Sar (bites lip): He always admired my willingness to accept him,
fur and all. He loved that I accepted Elle as my own, that I wanted to be her mom
even when she wasn’t my own child.
What would Theo say is your biggest weakness?
Sar (wipes at tears): He’d say I tended to rush in before I should.
I do that a lot, when I feel it’s the right thing to do. It’s gotten me into trouble
    before.
If you were given your fondest wish, what would it be?
Sar: That Theo would be here, now. That Danial would have found
him, or he would never have gone missing. If we knew he was dead, at least we’d
have closure. But not to know what happened to him rips me up inside. I keep thinking
I’d know if he died. But the more time goes by, the more uncertain I get about that.
What do you wish I had asked you? Please ask and answer it
    now.
Sar: I wish you had asked me about Elle, Theo’s daughter… and
mine. (Sar smiles). She’s getting big, and she’s so smart! I see so much of Theo
in her. She has his eyes. I never thought I would have children of my own. But I’m
so happy to have her. I was so angry at Tawny, when she showed up pregnant at my
door. I was angry at Theo. But his mistake was one of the greatest things to ever
happen to me. I will never have really lost him, because I have Elle.

Why Brita Writes Fanciful Tales @britaaddams #RLFblog #gayromance

    Please welcome
Brita Addams to the Romance Lives Forever blog, with her take on writing and
the not-always-smooth life of an author.

    – – –
I will not deny that being a published
author is a wonderful advent in my life. It is also one that I never expected to
    happen.
    Brita Addams

I’ve written all my life, started
at about age ten, with a diary that my parents gave me for Christmas. I so clearly
remember sitting in my bedroom, on January 1, and writing that first entry. I poured
my heart and soul into those pages and over the years, I filled many a volume. I
had missed years in there, as life does tend to get in the way of our best intentions.
Sometimes, I was too heartbroken to even tell Dear Diary all about it, after all,
the conversation is always one way.

When I married for the second time,
I already had two children. My wonderful husband took on the responsibility and
even told me, upon the marriage proposal, that “There are three of us you know,”
a play on the fact that I had told him the same thing when we started talking about
something more serious. Today, nearly 33 years later, he often playfully sides with
the kids, but now the ranks have grown considerably.
When we decided to have a child of
our own, I decided to chronicle the, at times, bumpy ride. I started a diary from
the day we said, “Yes, let’s do it,” right through the pregnancy, her
birth, and the long and sometimes discouraging journey through a world I knew nothing
about–that of a handicapped child, one who cannot bend her arms or her legs.
    Having a physically disabled child
is heartbreaking and there is no way of sugar coating it. We tread water that, at
times, threatened to drown us, but then we’d look into her sweet little face and
that grounded us in what was most important.
Her strength and fortitude, her uncomplaining
manner, inspired me then and inspires me now, 28 years later. She twice graduated
from college, is a published author, and is married now. She’s patient and impatient,
loving, kind, and has a caustic tongue at times. She is independent and takes no
prisoners. Oh, yes, and she does all the things the doctors said she’d never do–brush
her hair, her teeth, feed herself, walk, etc., but she is indeed above average in
    intelligence, as they promised.
I tell you this because the diary
entries during this period were probably the most honest I’ve ever written. As an
adult, our daughter read them and has learned the true nature of my feelings, both
good and bad. She understands that the bad had to do with me, and she appreciates
knowing that Mom had that vulnerable side. Sometimes life isn’t all lollipops and
roses, and sometimes Mom caves under the pressure.
I loved English class, and wrote short
stories for them, with the encouragement of my teachers, who apparently saw a budding
writer in me. Today, I often dedicate my books to those teachers, for they are the
ones who inspired me early on, when I encountered resistance from those who should
    have been the most encouraging.
Raising a family occupied most of
my early adult life. We have three children and their ages span a 14 year difference
between oldest to youngest. There wasn’t a lot of Mom time back them.
Now, I have the time and I use it
to full advantage. I suppose most writers write because they can’t imagine not writing.
That’s the way it is for me. Yes, it’s nice when a publisher wants your work and
sends you a contract, but I have many stories on my hard drive that will never see
a publisher’s desk. Writing is a need in me, an urgency to say what I have on my
mind, without regard sometimes, to the marketability of the piece.
Sometimes I write things and get part
way through and lose interest or find that a brick wall stands in the way of completion.
Sometimes, there was no story there at all. Just a few words. A smidge of an idea
that had no legs. It happens all the time.
    I write because I can’t imagine not
writing. Aside from being a wife, mother, and grandmother, I am a writer. I’ve given
my all to raising a family, to employers along the way, to extended family. Now
is my time to fulfill the goals that I set aside for so long.
Regrets? I have a few. Don’t we all?
But if I spent the rest of my life lamenting the “shoulda dones,” that
wouldn’t leave much time for anything else. Will I ever write the next great worldwide
best seller? Probably not. But I will write what is in my heart, and for me, that’s
    the better gamble.

    Newest Releases

    Serenity’s Dream
Serenity’s Dream is book one of my Regency historical Sapphire
Club series. It originally came out in June of 2010. I recently revisited the series
and rewrote the books. My editor re-edited them and seemed please with the additional
thirteen thousand words I added to Serenity. I hope readers will be as well.
You can find Serenity’s Dream here.
Blurb: Serenity Damrill has returned to her husband, Lucien after
a ten-year absence. She carries with her a secret that could destroy her life and
possibly all that Lucien has built.
Lucien was quite happy in his life running the Sapphire Club
and has no need for the frigid wife who deserted him the day after they were married.
Can Lucien teach Serenity that her fear of the marriage bed is
unfounded? Will Serenity’s secret be the death knell for their marriage?
I also have ForMen Like Us, which also takes place during the Regency. You can find it at Dreamspinner
Press. Just click the title to be magically transported.
Blurb for For Men Like Us: After Preston Meacham’s lover dies
trying to lend him aid at Salamanca,
hopelessness becomes his only way of life. Despite his best efforts at starting
again, he has no pride left, which leads him to sell himself for a pittance at a
molly house. The mindless sex affords him his only respite from the horrors he witnessed.
The Napoleonic War left Benedict Wilmot haunted by the acts he
was forced to commit and the torture he endured at the hands of a superior, a man
who used the threat of a gruesome death to force Ben to do his bidding. Even sleep
gives Ben no reprieve, for he can’t escape the destruction he caused.
When their paths cross, Ben feels an overwhelming need to protect
Preston from his dangerous profession. As he explains,
“The streets are dangerous for men like us.”
In the April/May timeframe, Dreamspinner will publish Tarnished
Gold, set in 19-teens-1930 old Hollywood.

    About the Author

Born in Upstate New York, Brita Addams has made her home in the
sultry south for many years. Brita’s home is a happy place, where she lives with
her real-life hero, her husband, and a fat cat named Stormee.
She writes, for the most part, erotic historical romance, both
het and m/m, which is an ideal fit, given her love of British and American history.
Setting the tone for each historical is important. Research plays an indispensible
part in the writing of any historical work, romance or otherwise. A great deal of
reading and study goes into each work, to give the story the authenticity it deserves.
As a reader, Brita prefers historical works, romances and otherwise.
She believes herself born in the wrong century, though she says she would find it
difficult to live without air conditioning.
Brita and her husband love to travel, particularly cruises and
long road trips. They completed a Civil War battlefield tour a couple of years ago,
and have visited many places involved in the American Revolutionary War. In May,
2013, they are going to England
for two weeks, to visit the places Brita writes about in her books, including the
estate that inspired the setting for the Sapphire Club series. Not the activities,
    just the floor plan.
A bit of trivia – Brita pronounces her name, B-Rita, like the
woman’s name, and oddly, not like the famous water filter. Brita is her real middle
    name, after her father’s ex-girlfriend.
