Meet Emery Granger from Scandalous in a Kilt by Anna Durand @TheAnnaDurand #RLFblog #romance

Welcome Emery (Granger) MacTaggart from Scandalous in a Kilt, a new erotic contemporary romance.

    Emery (Granger) MacTaggart

    Age: 34
    Gender: female
    Birthplace: Idaho, USA
    Profession: unemployed computer programmer
    Ethnicity: Caucasian
    Please provide a physical description.
Emery is blonde and curvy, with blue eyes.
Please tell us a little about your character.
She’s a free spirit, unconventional in many ways but influenced by her traditionalist family. Emery loves to wear skimpy outfits, adores being silly as often as possible, and geeks out on superhero movies. Getting laid off from her job freed her from the daily grind but has left her broke and rudderless.
Who is the significant other in your character’s life?
His name is Rory MacTaggart, and he’s the second-oldest sibling in the MacTaggart clan. He’s also the only brother who hasn’t found a new wife, and the only one with three failed marriages in his past. He marries Emery to stop his family from pestering him to get a wife.
    How does your heroine dress?
Emery likes to say she enjoys being as naked as possible at all times — without getting arrested, of course! She loves short-shorts and short skirts, but she also goes for jeans and a T-shirt when she wants to be super comfy.
    How educated is this character?
Emery has a bachelor’s degree in computer programming, but her knowledge of all things ComicCon is entirely self-taught.
Does she scrape by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
Since getting laid off from her job, she’s running out of money. For years, she focused on paying off her student loans — at the cost of not having much fun. She lives in a tiny, one-room apartment, at least until she accepts Rory’s scandalous offer for a marriage of convenience.
What is your character’s family like?
Emery comes from a loving family with two parents who are still married, and a younger sister who’s married with two twin daughters. She knows her family will do anything for her, and she feels the same about them.
    Is she close to family?
In terms of their relationships with each other, yes. In terms of geography, no. Her parents live in Australia, and her sister lives in Germany.
If someone from your character’s past showed up, who would she most NOT want it to be, and why?
Emery hopes never to see her ex-boyfriend, Sebastian. The guy has serious issues and caused her a lot of grief.
Can your heroine keep a secret? If not, why not? If yes, why?
She can, but she hates secrets. They cause more trouble than they’re worth. This is why Emery insists she and Rory be totally honest with each other.
How emotionally expressive is your character to others?
Oh my, this girl has no qualms about showing her feelings! Emery hugs pretty much anybody who’s nice to her and tends to fling herself at her new husband whenever he does something sweet for her.
Who in her life has the power to hurt this character the most? Why?
That would be Rory, her new husband. Though she senses he has traumas in his past, he won’t talk about it. And his determination not to love her…Well, she worries that might drive him to break her heart even while his reluctant tenderness touches her deeply.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

To honor the person who chose to share your story, please answer at least four of these questions. Questions with more than one point should be considered one question. You may answer as many more as you like.
Why do you think your writer chose to write about you?
She knows how much fun I am, and that Rory needs a weirdo for a wife. Who else could make him loosen up?
What do you wish your writer had not told others about you?
That thing with Sebastian… Ick. Did the world need to know about that?
Why do you think your writer loves to write?
Because we characters are awesome! Seriously, why else would anybody put up with our craziness? We make real people smile, laugh, cry, and sometimes want to smack us. But always, we’re loads of fun.
What do you wish your writer would write next?
Ooooh, that’s a hard one! Of course, I want more Hot Scots books. But I also love those paranormal stories. I am a ComicCon geek, after all, and can’t get enough of hunky guys with superpowers.
What other character from your book do you think your writer should write a book about? Care to tell us why?
Does Anna want me to spill the beans? Hmm…Not sure, but here goes! My new sister-in-law Jamie and her onetime boyfriend, the American Gavin Douglas, need a little bit of help with their broken romance. I told Anna I needed to meddle, just this once, and she’s letting me go crazy with it! Their story is Gift-Wrapped in a Kilt: A Hot Scots Christmas Tale, coming later this year.

Stressing the Heroine from Tempted By A Kiss a #romance by @TheAnnaDurand #RLFblog

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and
a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better,
by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles
    stress.

    Author Bio

Anna Durand is an award-winning writer, a freelance
librarian, and an audiobook addict. She specializes in steamy romances
featuring spunky heroines and hunky heroes. As a member of Romance Writers of
America, she volunteers for its chapters to give back to the romance community.
In her previous life as a librarian, she haunted the stacks of public libraries
but never met any hot vampires hunting for magical books.

    About the Book

    Title Tempted by a Kiss
    Genre Erotic romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Mel Thompson just dumped her cheating ex after two years
together. Now she’s determined to understand the allure of casual sex by having
a steamy fling of her own at a notoriously raunchy underground club. When her
best friend, Adam Caras, catches on to her plan, he makes a surprising offer to
derail her. If she wants a hot fling, he’ll give it to her.
Who better than Adam, renowned lady-killer, to demonstrate
the erotic pleasures of a one night stand? Sex could ruin their friendship, but
after a soul-searing kiss, Mel fears one night may never be enough.

    Stressing The Heroine

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and
a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better,
by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles
    stress.

    The Heroine’s Relaxed Side

    This heroine is at a
party. Considering her story, describe the party.
Mel Thompson has been dragged to a party at the cramped
apartment of her best friend, Adam Caras. The place is filled to capacity with
family and friends, including Adam’s rowdy firefighter buddies.
    How does the heroine
feel about being at this particular party, and what body language is she
    displaying that gives it away?
Mel lingers behind the bar, arms wrapped around herself,
gaze scanning the room for Adam. She used to love parties, but now they make
her nervous. Though she’s still confident at work, in her personal life she’s
    lost her self-assurance.
    Is she more likely to
    mingle or remain aloof?
She’ll stick close to Adam, even avoiding his brothers and
father, whom she’s known her whole life.
    If she drinks, what is
her drink of choice at this party?
Beer. She grew up next door to the Caras boys, and though
beer isn’t her first choice, at a Caras party she’s not averse to tossing back
    a lager.
    How much drink is her
    usual?
She drinks in moderation, never getting drunk. Well, maybe
    not never…
    The heroine figures out
where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid
someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?
Mel longs to escape the party — especially when Adam’s
buddies start referring to him as the Arsonist, a renowned ladykiller.
    Is she likely to latch
onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is she the friend
    that others latch onto?
She wants nothing more than to cling to Adam, or hide behind
him, but he keeps dragging her into conversations with everybody else.
    If someone picked a fight
at this party, how is the heroine going to handle it?
Anyone who attacks Adam, or harasses a woman, will meet Mel
    the Terminator.
    Is the heroine the one
most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?
Don’t mess with Mel. She may be nervous at a party, but
    she’ll boot out the troublemakers.
    Will she know when to
leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of herself?
She’ll try to sneak out early, but Adam will convince her to
stay until everyone else is gone. He’s got an ulterior motive, but she’s
    oblivious to it.

    The Heroine’s Stressed Out Side

    How does the heroine handle
it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls her aside when she was
    blameless in a situation?
She’ll give them a tongue lashing, for sure.
    How does the heroine react
    to hearing a scream?
Mel flinches, but then rushes to see if someone’s in
    trouble.
    If she sees someone being
assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses her mind?
A man attacking another man: Too dangerous, run away.
A man attacking a woman: Won’t let another woman become a
    victim.
    If she sees someone
being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing she does?
A man attacking another man: Call the cops.
A man attacking a woman: Jump in with her stun gun to stop
    the assault.
    This heroine attempts
to rescue someone and realizes that she is in over her head. The odds are against
her and there is no way out. She is going to get her butt handed to her. What does
    she do?
Call Adam on her cell phone.
    The heroine runs into
the one person from her past she wanted to avoid. She can’t get out of the
situation and must interact with him/her in some way. What does she do?
When Mel runs into her cheating ex, Devon McCallister, she puts
up a tough front to hide her fear while searching for a way out, one that won’t
alert Devon to how scared she is.
    Someone younger than
the heroine is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly,
perhaps bungling things. How does the heroine deal with it?
Mel started her own business from the ground up, so she
excels at finding a diplomatic way to step in when someone else is screwing up.
    The heroine is in
physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does she tell herself
in order to get through the situation?
She remembers how resilient her late father was and takes
    strength from those memories.
    What mentor’s words
come to mind in a bad situation?
She remembers her dad’s corny advice, like “Crying
doesn’t make you weak, Melly. Even a tough cookie can have a soft center.”
    What lesson from her
past gets her through a stressful situation?
Getting through her father’s death proved to her she can
    handle even the worst moments.

Character Interview: Dawn – Reborn to Burn @TheAnnaDurand #RLFblog #PNR

    Reborn to Burn
    by Anna Durand
The character interview allows a hero or heroine to tell
readers about himself or herself. Today’s interview is with Dawn from Reborn to
    Burn.

    Interview with Dawn

    Tell us about yourself,
    please.
Until yesterday, I was a mummy who died 3,000 years ago in Ancient
Egypt. Scientists regenerated my body, though nobody knows how or why I woke up.
Since I have no memories of my previous life, I let my hero Jake name me. He chose
Dawn, because the Egyptians believed the dawn was a time of rebirth.
What can you not do (but
need to do) during this story?
I need to remember my first life, understand why I was reborn,
and escape from the scientists who are hunting me.
    What inner doubt causes
    you the most difficulty?
    I feel I shouldn’t be alive; I’m an abomination, a freak with
DNA from frogs and microscopic creatures. Am I truly human again, or something more
    sinister? The question haunts me.
    In the story world your
author created, explain what it is you fear most and why.
I worry I’ll turn into a zombie or some other unnatural monster.
Jake says that’s ridiculous, but who knows? Hey, I’m a resurrected mummy girl, so
    anything seems possible.
    Tell us about your significant
other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Thaat would be Jake Maxwell, the man who helped me break out
of Redeo Biotech. He claims he’s just a grad student, but I suspect he’s a secret
agent or maybe a superhero in hiding, given his talent for outsmarting the bad guys.
He doesn’t see a monster when he looks at me, just a woman — and he awakens desires
in me I never imagined existed.
    What would that person
    say about you?
Jake says I’m a woman, not a thing. He calls me beautiful, sexy,
and wonderful — and more importantly, he makes me feel that way.

    About the Writer

    I’m an award-winning writer, a reader, a freelance librarian,
and an audiobook addict. I specialize in sexy, suspenseful paranormal romances.
    Why did you choose this
    character for the interview today?
Reborn to Burn, and whole Reborn series, is all about Dawn’s
journey. Jake undergoes a transformation, too, but the stories revolve around Dawn’s
literal rebirth and the questions swirling around her origins and nature. She is
a mystery — a woman with no memory, no name (until Jake christens her Dawn), and
    no explanation for her awakening.
    When writing the book,
what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
I uncovered a shocking secret about Dawn and what rebirth has
done to her, but I wouldn’t want to spoil the big surprise! I also learned she’s
willing to sacrifice herself to save Jake, which surprised Dawn, too.
    Are any sequels planned
    for this book?
Yes. Reborn to Burn is the second book in the Reborn series,
with Reborn to Die as the first one. The third installment, Reborn to Avenge, will
    be published later this year.
    What genre(s) would you
like to write that you haven’t tried yet?
I’d love to try historical romance and urban fantasy. I read
voraciously, and those are two of my favorite genres — after paranormal romance,
    of course!

    About the Book

    Title Reborn to Burn
    Genre Paranormal romance
    Author Anna Durand
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
After three thousand years as a mummy, Dawn awakened to a dangerous
new reality where science and the supernatural collide. Her only ally is Jake Maxwell,
a mysterious grad student with an unusual talent for evading bad guys. Dawn’s resurrection
spells trouble and power for the scientists responsible, and they have no intention
of letting her go without a fight. But as she flees with Jake, a shocking revelation
about her newfound life rocks them both. While their enemies close in, they discover
a fiery passion — and a bond deeper and stronger than time itself. But can they
outrun the past before their future is shattered?
