Destiny Paramortals #3: Eve of Chaos by Livia Quinn

“You vill meet a dahk dangerrous strangah…”
…Aurora predicted at the Mardi Gras ball, and as if someone left their Swords of War videogame on “share” in a parallel universe, the Dark Knight walked in. Conor de Sept FlambeĀ“ with the distinctive leathery tattoos spanning his muscular shoulders and magnificent flashing swords. “Where did he get those swords?” Montana drooled. She’d been unable to force her eyes away from him, then he parted the crowd like Moses through the Red Sea, and asked her to dance.
He said he wanted to show her some of his moves. Right! Her Dinnshencha warrior wasn’t born yesterday… But there’s more to this Knight than meets the eye, and he’s quite an eyeful. Recognizing her diminishing strength, he offered to prepare her for the Chaos, twenty-four hours when many Paramortals would lose their power.
With crazies coming out of the woodwork, Paramortals losing their abilities, personalities going AWOL, Sheriff Lang wants to know who will be left standing with him when the Para-moon begins. If FlambeĀ“ is what Jack thinks he is, Destiny might have a chance. If not, they’ll be in deep… trouble. Where’s an F-18 when you need one?

She could destroy his worldā€¦or save it.
There’s a new supe in Destiny. She sauntered into the Moat of Morpheus, a redheaded violet-eyed warrior carrying a giant head-splitter of a sword and wielding it with magic. Her name was Cinder. River felt an immediate attraction as well as a lifting of the despair that had been his only companion for months. But it was short lived.
She was there to kill a dragonhunter and accused River of hiding the truth about him. Turns out, she was right. River had a secret and his own reasons for remaining quiet. If he couldn’t break free from the villain’s control, there would be devastating consequences for his family and ultimately, the other Paramortals.
After his sister and the dragon sheriff go missing, River and Cinder join forces. But history has a way of coming full circle and echoes from their past bring a shattering revelation about their Paramortal family and the dragonhunter’s true identity, a perspective neither of them could have anticipated. Can they forgive the past to overcome their common enemy or will the news tear their relationship and the Paramortals apart forever?

Stressing Tempe from Storm Crazy by Livia Quinn @liviaquinn #RLFblog #ParanormalLet’s meet Tempest Pomeroy from Storm Crazy, a paranormal by Livia Quinn. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your latest book.

    Storm Crazy by Livia Quinn

    Genre Paranormal

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Welcome to Destiny, or should I say Middle Earthā€¦

I’m Sheriff Jack Lang. After an exciting career as a Navy pilot, Destiny seemed like the perfect place to settle down – safe, sane and secure. But that ship sailed when I met Tempest Pomeroy – sexy redheaded mail lady and trouble magnet. Tempe never fails to test the limits of my patience or the law. Every time I think it’s the last straw, up pops another haystack.

My name is Tempest Pomeroy, and my human job is delivering the mail. I’m also a Paramortal like my family, or I’m supposed to be. If I didn’t have a few little talents, I’d think I was adopted. To say I was having a bad day would be like saying Katrina dropped a little rain on New Orleans. My brother’s genie bottle is missing, my mother’s AWOL, and the sheriff and my ex-lover are squaring off like yard dogs staking a claim over a poodle. I am no one’s poodle. I’ve denied my heritage for most of my life but all this chaos is a sign of my quickening Tempestaerie power.

Oh, and the sheriff? He thinks he’s settled in a normal, quaint small townā€”like Mayberry?! We’ll see how that turns outā€¦ Things better settle down soon, ’cause I’m about to goā€¦Storm Crazy.

    Stressing Tempe

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better, by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles stress.

Please tell me about your heroine.

    Age: 29

    Gender: Female

    Birthplace: Destiny, Louisiana

Profession: mail carrier and weather witch

    Ethnicity: Paramortal

    Species (for scifi/fantasy characters): Tempestaerie

What does your heroine look like?

Tempe is tan and fit, a redhead with rainbow streaks in her hair. Her eyes are sunny blue until she gets her weather dander up then they go stormy.

Who is the significant other in her life?

Jack Lang, is becoming her significant other, but he hasn’t seen her wild side yet.

    The Heroine’s Relaxed Side

This heroine is at a party. Considering her story, describe the party.

The is being given by Jane Fortune, Destiny’s gossip columnist and 900 Psychic. It’s a ploy to get new fodder for her column.

How does the heroine feel about being this particular party, and what body language is she displaying that gives it away?

Tempe did not want to be at Jane’s party so when Jane starts asking her about the dead body she found at the clubhouse, sparks fly from her fingertips.

Is she more likely to mingle or remain aloof?

Tempe isn’t really a mingler. She and her brother were abandoned by their parents when she was ten so she tends to stay to herself.

If she drinks, what is her drink of choice at this party?

She’d love a shot of tequila but she learned her lesson – twice – this week, that Tempestaerie elements and alcohol don’t mix.

How much drink is her usual?

Ha! less than one is plenty to get her in trouble.

The heroine figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?

To avoid someone, this time the hostess.

Is she likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is she the friend that others latch onto?

Tempe would find Montana her bigger than life intimidating warrior friend to hang out with.

If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the heroine going to handle it?

It depends on whether they are human or a supernatural since letting others see you use your powers is a no-no. But most likely Tempe would toss a lightning bolt at them, or call up a gust of wind to distract them.

Is the heroine the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?

Tempe’s a trouble magnet but not the kind to get thrown out. People understand why she’s having trouble

Will she know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of herself?

LOL, she’ll be looking for the first opportunity to get away.

    The Heroine’s Stressed Out Side

How does the heroine handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls her aside when she was blameless in a situation?

This happened and it didn’t go well. The sheriff didn’t believe her when she said she stepped over the dead body to steal her brother’s genie bottle from the locker. Ooops.

If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing she does?

Tempe wouldn’t hesitate to jump in and help.

This heroine attempts to rescue someone and realizes that she is in over her head. The odds are against her and there is no way out. She is going to get her butt handed to her. What does she do?

She’d fake it, pretend she was winning until she could gain an advantage, or outlast them.

The heroine runs into the one person from her past she wanted to avoid. She can’t get out of the situation and must interact in some way. What does she do?

Something she didn’t want to do after having a shot of tequila. She kisses him.

Someone younger than the heroine is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the heroine deal with it?

She raised her brother so she understands the mistakes young people make and would try to help them without making them feel like she’s taking over.

The heroine is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does she tell herself in order to get through the situation?

Pain is just a state of mind. Deny, deny, deny.

What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?

“Whatever you do, stay calm. You’re about to go through your quickening.”

What lesson from her past gets her through a stressful situation?

Even when things seemed hopeless and there was no one to turn to she managed to get herself and her little brother through a bad time and they came out okay.

What one thing would you like readers to know about your heroine?

Tempe’s like most of us, she’s just trying to protect the ones she loves and do the right thing but somehow things just keep happening and that dang sheriff keeps showing up at the worst possible time.

Is It True: Blame it On the Moon by Livia Quinn @liviaquinn #RLFblog #PNR

Play Is It True with today’s guest Livia Quinn, author of Blame it on the Moon, an Urban Fantasy. This is a game in which authors answer yes and no questions. They can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

First, tell us about your book.

Destiny – is it Mayberry or Middle Earth?

It’s the height of the Para-moon and Sheriff Jack Lang is up to his ‘6’ in alligators. Defending those weaker than himself is in his DNA which is what drove him to become a Navy pilot. But who is he kidding? Alligators he could handle! But supernatural bad guys? Ragtag doesn’t begin to describe his band of temporary ‘heroes’. If he has to go to war with the group that showed up at dawn, he might as well start cutting up white sheets and attaching them to garden stakes.

With Tempe and the other Paramortals ill or incapacitated and the sudden appearance of beings he’s never heard of, will Jack be able to keep Destiny out of the hands of their enemies for the rest of the power down an–very important–keep the humans in the dark?

It’s only twenty-four hours. If worse comes to worse, he has a dragon on his side and a few surprises up his sleeve. “Yippe, ki, yiā€¦”

But a lot can happen in twenty-four hours and things don’t always go as planned.

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

    Hmm, paranormal/urban fantasy/mystery/cozy, lol

Welcome to Destiny, or should I say, Middle Earth?

I took the Sheriff position in Destiny thinking it a quaint, safe, normal small town – like Mayberry, but that ship sailed after I met Tempest Pomeroy – trouble magnet, storm witch, daughter of a Djinn and Tempestaerie, friend to dragons, fae, witches, and vampires.

Holyā€¦ to say my life had gone FUBAR was like saying Wolverine’s fingernails were long enough for a manicure. For a man who prided himself on being in control, never confronting a situation I couldn’t handle, suddenly I was face to face with my own delusions.

I may have thought that was the last straw. But there was always another haystack.

Meet Sheriff Jack Lang from Take These Broken Wings by Livia Quinn.

    About the Book

Title Take These Broken Wings, Destiny Paramortals, Book 5
    Genre Paranormal Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
Destiny. Is it Mayberry or Middle Earth?
Jack Lang knows first hand about Destinyā€™s secrets. Turns out he was one of them. On Mardi Gras Eve he and his unlikely band of heroes defeated some particularly nasty creatures intent on taking advantage of the Paramortalsā€™ vulnerability during the Chaos. They called it Chaos because the word ā€œArmageddonā€ was already taken. Destiny survived with the help of their dragon and some special friends, then Jack received the biggest shocks of his life. And that was saying a lot.
Heā€™d chosen this town the year before for the normalcy and safety it could provide his teenager after a life of upheaval with his ex. Heā€™d been looking for Mayberry. Instead heā€™d found, not a town, but a world full of magical beings, odd occurrences, and scary creatures. Thereā€™d been one shock after another and yet, instead of leaving and taking Jordie somewhere ā€œsafeā€ā€¦ heā€™d stayed.
Now he suspected he felt the pull of this special place long before heā€™d known it existed. But that hadnā€™t been the only reason. It had all begun the first time heā€™d seen Tempest Pomeroy. That was when his world had turned upside downā€”along with half the town. Heā€™d surprised himself with his acceptance of the supernatural. Heā€™d even almost accepted this latest blow, but that had been before he found out he no longer belonged anywhere. Not with humans, and not among supernaturals. Something had gone haywire in his family DNA.
Now heā€™s abandoned the women in his life, his responsibilities–everything except for the need to quench the gnawing hunger in his gut and this compulsion to jump off the highest levees in the parish. He was just sorry there were no mountains in Louisiana.

    Introducing Sheriff Jack Lang

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever! We’re happy to have you here today.
Thanks, it’s good to be here. I’m Jack Lang, thirty-three, former Navy pilot, now Sheriff of Destiny, Louisiana. I have a spunky, beautiful fifteen year old daughter named Jordie.
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human):
Hmm, great question, actually. I always thought I was human, or maybe I still am, in addition to being a dragon. I guess you could say things are in “transition”.
Describe your body and build, skin tone, height and weight. Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars:
I used to be around 6′ 2″, dark complected, brown hair and green eyes but I’ve gotten taller and more muscular recently. When I shift, I turn into a big sparkly dragon with silver eyes.
    Who is your significant other.
Five months ago, I would have told you it was Tempe. Now, I could be in the dog…er…  dragon house…cave. My life has kinda gone FUBAR.
Tell us a little about yourself.
After getting full custody of my daughter, my parents suggested I run for sheriff in Destiny. I figured it would be the perfect (normal) place to recover from the craziness of our life with my ex, Georgeanne.
    I was wrong.
Please tell us about your education.
I signed up for the U.S. Navy as soon as I graduated and within two years was doing what I always wanted to do. Fly. I knew the Navy would supply everything I desired – travel, education, a career and women. I figured those would be the most important things in my life. Then my daughter Jordie came along.
Do you get by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
I live simply because nothing matters but keeping Jordie safe and providing for her needs, but that hasn’t been simple. Nothing’s simple when it comes to G-Crazy.
On what special skills do you rely?
Until recently, the only special skill I had was flying, but then I was blindsided with this quickening thing and now I can’t even do that.
Are any of your skills a source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
Definitely embarrassment. This new form I’ve taken on, though it’s not exactly a skill, well, I should have more control over it. When Conor shifts he morphs into an awesome dragon knight with these giant swords strapped to his shoulders. Me? I just wind up naked as a jaybird. And what good is a dragon that can’t breathe fire, or fly? Embarrassing is not the word.
    How do you dress?
Nothing exciting. I wear a sheriff’s uniform, unless I’ve just shifted, then… see the previous question.
How well do you know your neighbors?
Ha! Neighbors. Is that a euphemism for crazy supernaturals? Cause that’s what my town is all about. I know a heck of a lot more now that I did six months ago when I moved here thinking it was a quaint, ordinary town for Jordie. Seriously, I was thinking “Mayberry”. But instead, I found Middle Earth.
    What is your breaking point?
I didn’t think I had one, until I met Tempest Pomeroy and the citizens of Destiny.
But that was then… now, I think I overestimated my own resilience, and possibly my mental stability.
Do you see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
Black and white was the old Jack. Things were so much simpler then; now it seems I see nothing but gray. I’m having a hard time with change, and my relationships with Tempe and my daughter are suffering. If I don’t get it together soon, I’m going to lose everything.
