Is It True: Ice Princess by Tricia Schneider @TriciaSchneider #RLFblog #FantasyRomanceWelcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Tricia Schneider, author of Ice Princess, a fantasy romance. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

    Ice Princess by Tricia Schneider

    Genre Fantasy Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Princess Lily is determined to save her kingdom from the evil influence of the sorcerer in their midst. When she makes her stand, he curses her beloved to turn into a dragon and casts a spell that seals her in a block of ice where she will sleep for all eternity.

Eternity arrives earlier than expected when Rick Stamos tears down a wall to the tavern he’s renovating. He never expects to find a woman encased in ice hidden in his basement. After melting the ice, he’s more surprised when the woman wakes and claims he is her beloved.

Did the spell that kept Lily frozen for so long also curse Rick? Is he really her beloved or a stranger with the same face?

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

No. This is my sixteenth book published. I have a few more future books scheduled for release. By the end of the year, I’ll be up to twenty.

this book is part of a series?

Yes and no. I didn’t originally write Ice Princess as part of a series, but readers have been asking for more. I’m considering writing other books set in this world.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Yes. My deadline for this book was approaching fast. I didn’t know if I would make it or not. It was nerve-wracking, but I did it!

you did research for this book?

Yes. The story takes place in England, so I did some research on the setting.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

Yes. Lily’s beloved is turned into a dragon by an evil sorcerer.

this book has more than one genre?

Yes, if we’re talking subgenres. It’s a romance, no question about that. It could be Fantasy Romance or Paranormal Romance.

you speak more than one language?

Yes. I speak English. Well, since I was born in the USA, I speak American English. I took five years of German in school. I’m not completely fluent, but I managed to get by when I visited Germany several years ago. I enjoy reading books written in German. I can read it better than speak it!

I also began teaching myself and my children sign language. I started learning simple signs when they were babies. It was easier for them to sign what they wanted (thirsty, hungry, etc.) before they learned how to speak. With each baby I had, my older children continued to learn. Again, we’re not completely fluent, but learning it has become handy in some moments. While I worked at the bookstore near my home, a deaf customer came into our store one day. I still remember his smile when I answered him with sign language.

you grew up where you live now?

That’s true. I’ve traveled to 2 countries and visited nearly half of the United States, but I’ve always made my home in Pennsylvania. I currently live in the town directly next to the one where I grew up. I really haven’t moved far.

    you love to read?

Absolutely true! I’ve been an avid reader all my life. I loved books so much I worked in a bookstore for 12 years. And if Waldenbooks hadn’t closed its doors back in 2010, I’d still be working there.

    you are never late?

Not true. I always try to be on time, but it’s a hassle leaving the house with four kids. Inevitably, someone is missing a shoe or something and we all need to search for fifteen minutes before leaving the house. My life is typically chaos!

    you love pizza?

Yes! There’s a pizza shop in my town called Messina’s Pizza that makes the BEST Sicilian pizza! My favorite!

    you love sushi?

    I don’t know. I’ve never had sushi.

    you have a pet?

Yes, I have 2 cats, Cassius and Harley. I found them at different times as stray kittens in my backyard. Or rather, they found me!

Felony Melanie in Pageant Pandemonium by Douglas J Eboch and Kris Bock

    Genre romantic comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG (underage drinking)

Big City, Big Glamour, Big Trouble

Before Melanie Smooter became hot fashion designer Melanie Carmichael, she was known as Felony Melanie, the teenage troublemaker of Pigeon Creek, Alabama. Aching to escape the boredom of small-town life, she gets into many reckless adventures. Her boyfriend, Jake, is always by her side – and the local sheriff is usually close behind.

Melanie’s mother has been shoving her into every beauty pageant within twenty miles since Melanie was a toddler. Melanie is getting a little sick of it. She’s on the verge of quitting when she qualifies for the Miss Alabama Princess Pageant in the big city of Mobile. The first prize scholarship could be her ticket out of Pigeon Creek, not to mention that one of the judges is a real, live New York fashion designer. The competition will be fierce. Can a “trailer trash” girl outshine the snooty debutantes?

Meanwhile, Jake and his friends go to Mobile to support Melanie – and to party in the big city. But when the pageant is cursed by disasters from cockroaches in the banquet hall to skunks on stage, the gang suspects someone is sabotaging the contest. They try to figure who’s behind it and why, but it isn’t easy when everyone dismisses you as redneck kids.

Melanie needs to prove herself on stage. Jake and the gang need to make sure she gets the chance. Can they show they’re more than what people see on the surface?

Stressing Gillian from Dark Energy by Addison Brae @AddisonBrae1 #RLFblog #romanticsuspenseLet’s meet Gillian from Dark Energy, a romantic suspense, by Addison Brae. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your latest book.

    Dark Energy by Addison Brae

    Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Cybercrime doesn’t talk. It creeps in and destroys lives right under Gillian’s nose when a cryptojacking scheme lands her boss, Pinkie, in jail. Gillian had just started over with a new career, boyfriend, and confidence after escaping a vicious murder investigation that shattered her ability to trust. Then Pinkie’s arrest leaves her struggling to run his two bars while also unraveling the conspiracy.

Gillian will not let her mentor and friend go down for something he didn’t do. Neither will Jon, the most talented musician on the bar’s stage and the perfect boyfriend…until his good fortune sends her reeling. Gillian forces herself to trust the cops, people who hurt her, and known criminals. Will it be enough to free Pinkie and save her life?

    Stressing Gillian

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better, by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles stress.

Please tell me about your heroine.

    Age: 21

    Gender: female

    Birthplace: Sugar Creek, Missouri

    Profession: bar manager and CPA

    Ethnicity: Greek American

What does your heroine look like?

Gillian doesn’t have much time to spend on her looks, so she depends on a few well-selected clothes and the rest is what she was born with. She has an olive complexion with auburn hair, just below the shoulder, and soft curls. She’s a little on the short side at about 5’4″. She runs often since she moved to Dallas, so she’s pretty toned. Gillian appreciates good food but forgets to eat when she’s busy, and she’s lost a few pounds from stress dieting that she desperately tries to end soon.

Who is the significant other in his life?

After escaping an abusive college relationship and making a few romantic mistakes since moving to Dallas, Gillian meets Jon. They’re thrown together in extremely stressful situations. He listens, is there for her, and has her back when things get really bad, all things she’s not used to from men in her life. Even better, he’s a good cook, makes his own money, and writes and performs with his band a song for Gillian called Dark Energy.

    The Heroine’s Relaxed Side

This heroine is at a party. Considering her story, describe the party.

Since Gillian manages a bar, she prefers a chill house party when she’s not working–maybe grilling by the pool. She enjoys talking to and getting to know people over a glass of wine, and has little patience for overused bar lines and BS.

How much drink is her usual?

Gillian knows her limits, so she sticks to no more than a couple of drinks. She is well aware she gets into trouble when she drinks too much–especially tequila shots.

Is he likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is she the friend that others latch onto?

Gillian is used to her independence. She adores every moment with Jon, but they’re not a Velcro couple.

Is the heroine the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?

Gillian learns the bar business from men who are far stronger and tougher than she is. Have you ever seen a tiny dog that has the confidence to make noise and take control like a large one? This is Gillian, and she’s good at it.

    The Heroine’s Stressed Out Side

How does the heroine handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls her aside when she was blameless in a situation?

The cops yank her friend, mentor, and boss out of the bar on opening weekend. She tries to stop them, but they’re FBI and don’t listen. She keeps her cool better than most and contacts the one cop friend she can trust.

How does the heroine react to hearing a scream?

Gillian would call for help and investigate before jumping in to help.

If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing she does?

If a patron starts a fight or gets rowdy in the bar, Gillian jumps in the middle to stop it. Where she’s lacking in size, she makes up in skill and badassery.

This heroine attempts to rescue someone and realizes that she is in over her head. The odds are against her and there is no way out. She is going to get her butt handed to her. What does she do?

Since moving to Dallas, Gillian has been in over her head so many times she’s used to it. She completed training and earned her license to carry a handgun, and she often does. When she’s overpowered, she’s clever enough to think her way out of it. If lethal force is her last option, she’s not afraid to act. “Am I an accountant, bar manager, or crime fighter?” ~Gillian.

The heroine runs into the one person from her past she wanted to avoid. She can’t get out of the situation and must interact in some way. What does she do?

When a customer comes into her bar, no matter what may have occurred before, Gillian has to be professional. This happens with someone who hurt her in the past. He tells her he went through rehab and stopped drinking for good. She gives him a chance and he repays her by saving her life in a pretty exciting scene in Dark Energy.

The heroine is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does she tell herself in order to get through the situation?

“No one will ever control me again!” are the words that keep Gillian fighting. Considering what she faces, Gillian’s fed up with begin controlled and adds rule twelve to her list of rules of her new life–no one can mess with me.

What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?

Pinkie, Gillian’s boss, mentor, and friend’s best advice that she often recalls in her frustrating bar manager moments is, “There’s one thing you’ll learn after being in the service industry for a while, you’ll never please everyone.”

What one thing would you like readers to know about your heroine?

Gillian always keeps her word, no matter what. “Damn promises. Why do I make promises that always get in the way of my happiness?” ~Gillian Rule eighteen of her new life is–Never make a promise I can’t keep.

We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about Racing Home.

Racing Home by Mary Kit Caelsto

    Genre contemporary romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Royce Washburn and Charlie Dowes had been the “it” couple of the horse racing world until a track side accident ended the career of one of his most promising horses. After her recovery, Charlie went on with her life, going to vet school and then opening up Meadowbrook After Care, a rescue for race horses whose careers had ended. In the close world of horse racing, she kept up with Royce’s career, so when she ends up with one of his horses it’s time for Charlie to face the past…and the man she never stopped loving.

Royce Washburn worked hard to make his name in the horse racing world in spite of his family’s world famous breeding operation. Some said he got where he was on his name alone. He knew better, and he’d prove them wrong. But his breakup with Charlie has haunted him ever since and when one of his favorite horses needs rehabilitation, he can think of no one better to care for him. Perhaps, she can heal his horse and his heart.

Can they overcome their past to see the future that lays before them before it’s too late?

    Meet Bugsy from Racing Home

    Full name: Bugsy

    Nickname: n/a

    Gender: gelding

    Species: horse

Physical description: Bugsy is a tall, chestnut thoroughbred racehorse. He’s lean and mean and would love to go fast except he chipped his knee and is need of a new career.

Relationship to main character: Charlie receives Bugsy at her rescue because it’s known as one of the best.

Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Royce is the owner and breeder of this horse and knows that Charlie will do right by him.

Where this furbaby came from: Royce’s farm.

Do you have any working or service animals in your stories? Tell us about them.

Many of my stories, both romance and fantasy, feature animals of some sort. I write equestrian women’s lit and romance, so there are always horses in my story. While my own horses are Quarter Horse/stock types, I have a fondness for thoroughbreds and namely OTTB (off the track thoroughbreds) who are race horses with a new career.

What inspired you to create this character?

I had written about Meadow Brook After Care (Charlie’s rescue) in my women’s lit series, Noble Dreams, because one of the characters receives horses from there to retrain. I wanted to give Charlie a happy ever after and tell her story. It seemed natural to combine that with the horse racing world of Kentucky.

What does the main character think about this furbaby?

It’s love at first sight for Charlie, who appreciates good horse breeding. Bugsy reminds her of her days as an exercise rider, which is how she met Royce, and also where the accident happened that ruined their relationship.

What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?

Royce just wants a good soft landing for this horse after his injury. Because Bugsy was on track to be a champion, he’s attached to it, and wants to be sure it ends up in a good place.

What does this furbaby add to the story?

Horses have unique personalities. I see this among my four. I think having equine characters allows us to see another dimension of the human characters.

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Not sure if it’s humerous, but one of the main catalyst events in the story is that Bugsy, like any horse, is pretty much a 1000-lb toddler. He loves to get in trouble. He scratches himself in his stall and Charlie wraps him in hot pink vet wrap. While Charlie thinks it’s a bit funny to put hot pink on the gelding, Royce is not amused.

    About Thunder

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Bugsy from Racing Home by Mary Kit Caelsto @charmedozarks @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

I have four horses. My senior mare Fortune, an ex-stallion, Thunder, and their filly (who is 6 now), Firefly. I also rescued Holly from a kill pen in Kansas. So I tend to use my experience with these four as well as my own past horse experience (worked on horse farms since I was a teen) to craft my fictional equines, both real and magical.

What do your pets do when you are writing?

Stand in the pasture and eat. LOL! I take breaks to visit them, and of course there’s morning and evening feeding. My office cabin overlooks their pasture, so I’m often staring out the window at them instead of writing.

Where did you find your pet?

Thunder came to me with the property. I bought him from the seller for my mom, so technically he was her horse, but I always did most of his care and now that mom has passed away, he’s my big goofy boy.

What do you feed your pet?

Thunder lives outdoors 24/7 so he always has access to his pasture. He gets horse treats (horse cookies) and I also feed a pelleted 12% feed to him. He receives a hoof supplement and MSM.

Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.

They have “stall toys” called likits, which are basically probably like a big sweet tart but in horse approved flavors like carrot, apple, or mint. I haven’t tried one, but that’s how they feel. They weigh about a pound and go on a kabob that looks like an apple. I can put one of those up and Thunder and Firefly will have it gone within 20 minutes.

    Mary Kit Caelsto Social Media

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Bugsy from Racing Home by Mary Kit Caelsto @charmedozarks @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsMary Kit Caelsto never grew out of the phase of being a “horse crazy girl”. Though she’s now over 40, she’s finally fulfilling her dream of writing equestrian books for others who haven’t grown out of being “horse crazy”. She lives in the Ozarks with her four very spoiled and very opinionated horses, as well as a large flock of poultry and enough cats to qualify her as a crazy cat lady. Her husband, though not an equestrian himself, understands and supports all her equestrian dreams.

She’s convinced three of the best things in the world are the smell of a sun warmed horse, the smell of leather tack, and making sure to hug her horses every single day.

    Brenda Sparks Social Media

Brenda Sparks has always loved all things spooky and enjoys incorporating paranormal elements in her writing. She refuses to allow pesky human constraints to get in the way of telling the story. Luckily the only thing limiting her stories is her imagination. Her characters are strong, courageous, and she adores spending time with them in their imaginary world.
Her idea of a perfect day is one spent in front of a computer with a hot cup of coffee, her fingers flying over the keys to send her characters off on their latest adventure.
Brenda loves connecting with readers. To contact Brenda or for more information on her books, including excerpts, free reads, and more please visit her website.

Read the new #PNR Bewitched by Beth Caudill @beth_caudill #RLFblog #NewRelease #ParanormalRomanceBeth Caudill, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Bewitched.

    Bewitched by Beth Caudill

    Genre Paranormal Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Guardian angel Leyna Angelheardt travels the world trying to guide children to their brighter futures. However, free will rules the human spirit, and after she loses three charges, her heart needs healing before she can continue her calling. Directed toward the magically protected town of Willows Haven, she faces her greatest challenge.

Vithar Woodward runs the small town newspaper with his twin brother. But his family harbors a dark secret: a century ago, an incubus cursed them to spend their days shapeshifted into animals. Now with only a few days until the curse culminates, Vithar knows his only hope is to find true love and nullify the curse. Yet he wonders who would ever love a man who spends half his days as a barred owl.

When Leyna and Vithar meet, it becomes clear that fate has drawn them together. As sparks dart between them, Leyna must decide if she should remain a guardian angel or embrace this new existence of loving a mortal.

For after all, what is more magical than true love?

Why did you write this book?

This is the second story in my Willows Haven series which is a part of the Zodiac Shifters author collective. I choose to use Gemini for my character inspiration because both my husband and mother have early June birthdays. The curse for this story was inspired by Ladyhawke. It’s a great fantasy movie but I never liked that there was no end-date to the hero and heroine’s affliction. So in my version, the curse continues for 101 years and my hero and his twin are the ones who transform into a wolf and an owl.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Epic Fantasy. Different worlds, heroic quests, magic and political intrigue. But Dark Fantasy and Paranormal Romance are favorites too with a few Urban Fantasy books for variety.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

Daemon from Anne Bishop’s Black Jewel series. He’s deadly but elegant with a soft heart unless you cross him.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m currently working on a Bonus Epilogue for Healer’s Fate (the first in my Paranormals of Arilase series) to give to my newsletter subscribers. Next week, I hope to start plotting the third and final book in my Willows Haven series.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

My next release won’t be until the end of December which will be the third book in my Willows Haven series. I’ll have completed two trilogies and be ready to work on brand new series. I haven’t decided what the next series will be – I have at least 4 active ideas and several other possibilities.

Thank you for having me today. I hope everyone has wonderful day.
