Note that Raul has two personnas–the one before he realizes what an empty life he’s been leading, and the one after he falls in love for the first time ever. So if it’s pre-Veronica Raul, he’ll call his dealers to find out where the latest party is–they’ll bring the blow, he’ll get his pick of celebrity whores, and a good time will be had by all.
If it’s the Raul who is in love with Veronica, he’ll choose to spend every minute he can with her–or in the outdoors, enjoying fishing, running, and hiking in the woods.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
Old Raul would rather do snort cocaine and drink to excess than eat.
New Raul craves Gram-Marie’s soups and homemade bread, as well as Veronica’s pies.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
Old Raul wears anything off the floor that passes the “sniff” test.
New Raul cares about what he looks like, to please Veronica.
Does he know how to fix things?
Old Raul–nope.
New Raul–as long as it involves something he’s learned from Veronica, he can do it–like fixing fishing lures, poles, and canoes/oars.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
Old Raul tried to kiss Veronica when he first met her. He assumed she’d be thrilled to be kissed, maybe screwed, by a celebrity like him. She dodges his kiss and his face hits the wall. He tells her he thought that’s why she brought him outside-away from her beloved grandmother, who he then insults. She slaps his face for insulting her grandma. He retaliates by calling her fat and plain. She laughs, then tells him what she really thinks about him–about all of the venereal diseases she’s sure he must have from being such a man-whore, and how he’s smart to hold off on doing porn until his looks fade, which they will soon, at the rate he’s destroying himself with drugs and alcohol. He’s vaguely insulted.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
Old Raul would ignore them.
New Raul can’t wait to have a family of his own to belong to, so he’d study them.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
Old Raul is hung-over.
New Raul can’t wait to get out into the sunshine to enjoy a new day.
Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?
Both Raul’s drink lots of black coffee.
What apps would he have on his phone?
Old Raul doesn’t play with his phone. He only uses it to find his dealers and where the next party is.
New Raul uses it only to keep in touch with Veronica.
Beard or clean-shaven?
Old Raul is clean-shaven, to keep his movie-star image bright.
New Raul likes to look scruffy, since Veronica likes him that way.
Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
Both Rauls have unadorned skin–less to hide during his frequent nude scenes in the crappy rom-coms and action movies he’s usually cast in.
Personal vehicle or public transport?
Old Raul needs a driver, because he’s frequently too buzzed to drive.
New Raul is a careful driver.

Old Raul wouldn’t care.
New Raul communes with nature, so he’d recycle.

Luc owns a few restaurants that provide music and dancing. He’s likely to go find someone to dance with. Or he’ll attend a party. He has an extensive social life, but few really close friends.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
A hamburger, and he loves pizza and spaghetti, but his go to meal is a steak and potato.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
Formal or business attire. He has some casual wear, but even his casual outfits are dressy. He lived with a fashion model for five years and one of his friends is a trendy designer.
Does he know how to fix things?
He’s not technical. If something breaks he’s going to look around for someone to help. But if it’s a physical thing, like constructing a house or bridge, then he’s your man. He’s done a lot of jobs in the twelve thousand years he’s been alive, but technology is beyond him.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
He tried to apologize to someone without realizing that person didn’t know Luc was the one who’d made the mistake. Luc wasn’t aware that someone else had taken the blame to spare him embarrassment. Once the person knew, they blew up and screamed in his face, and refused to let him make amends. They thought he’d been hiding behind someone else. He never got to explain, and it bothered him that the person passed away still angry.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
He has an adopted son who’s been with him since age three and is now about twenty. Luc has gotten much better about being around kids, but he’s still afraid of bumbling something or dropping one.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
Once his eyes open he’s up. Wide awake.
How does he act around people who don’t know what he is?
Careful. Whenever humans find out that the blood of an Ultra can heal, the life of an Ultra changes to a life on the run.
Will he let a worker handle things or do it himself?
He delegates with ease and always comments on a job well done.
Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
Nothing would stick. His body rejects anything foreign.
Personal vehicle or public transport?
Luc has a fleet of vehicles for his personal use, and an android driver who’s ready to go when Luc is. Also a fleet of spacecraft. Did I mention he’s wealthy?

Recycle always. He cares about the environment and makes sure his companies are towing the line on waste and pollution.

She’s good with children and loves visiting them in sick children’s hospitals where she gets them to laugh and sing. However, she has never wanted any children of her own. She knows that she has no maternal instinct.

She’s warm, and lovely, and always fun. Even when she discovers she has to walk ten miles at the crack of dawn, she laughs and takes the ordeal in stride.

Coffee with milk and no sugar, and when Carston brings her coffee in bed, he wins her heart.

Finally, despite his lack of experience with tournament play, Matt ends up facing Jason across the board in the semi-final round. When Matt throws the game he should have won, Jason is forced to confront his own feelings: about winning, about casual sex, and about Matt.
Why did you write this book?
Originally, I wrote this novella for a boxed set entitled Gaymes. The publisher envisioned this as a collection of sports-themed MM romances, but honestly I have little interest in football, baseball or most other physical games. When I suggested to the editor that I could write a tale about Scrabble, she expressed some level of disbelief. In a sense, I wrote this story to prove that I could.
I love playing Scrabble myself, so it was easy to identify with Jason’s and Matt’s passion. Their passion for the game, I mean! The characters popped into my head more or less fully formed: Jason, the tournament veteran, focused, self-confident and dismissive of serious relationships; Matt, the newbie, with his nerdy good looks and his secrets. Once I got started, the story wrote itself. However, I’ve revised and expanded it for this release, to highlight the romantic connection between the heroes.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I read many genres, but I’m particularly drawn to science fiction and paranormal stories. I grew up on steady diet of Heinlein, Asimov and Bradbury. Meanwhile, all through my childhood my dad made up original ghost stories to entertain us. It’s not surprising that I love both genres as an adult.
The best scifi I’ve read in the past decade is The Windup Girl by Paolo Baccigalupi. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern might be the most enchanting and moving paranormal novel I’ve ever encountered. I recommend both of them highly.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
That’s another hard question. Possibly Sherlock Holmes. Arthur Conan Doyle’s complete opus has pride of place on my bookshelves. I’ve read it so many times that I feel I know Sherlock personally. Meanwhile, he’s everything a character should be: uniquely fascinating, often admirable, but deeply flawed.
What are you working on at the moment?
My major WIP right now is The Journeyman’s Trial, the second book in my series “The Toymaker’s Guild”. This is steam punk erotica with some romantic elements, set in an alternative Victorian England. Gillian Smith, the nineteen year old engineering genius who’s my heroine, is one of my favorite creations.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
Aside from The Journeyman’s Trial, I will be republishing a number of romance titles from my back list, including my multi-genre mega-opus Rajasthani Moon. That novel was the result of another personal challenge: how many different romance subgenres could I hit in a single title. It’s a steampunk/ menage/ paranormal/ BDSM/ Bollywood/ Rubenesque spy story!
I’m also planning to put out some boxed sets, including the full Asian Adventures series which will release next month. Most of my work is available in multiple stores, but my boxed sets are Kindle Unlimited.
