Three women share their pasts and dreams in Karen Cino's new Women's Fiction Romance, Down at the Shore. Together they work together to find fulfillment in their lives.

Karen, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I'm Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here!

Please tell us about your series.

Down at the Shore by Karen Cino

    Genre Women's Fiction Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG 17

Brooke Dascoli is in a relationship that's going nowhere. She moves into the beach house her grandmother left her at the Jersey Shore and forms a friendship with her neighbors, Flo Meadows and Jane Cummings. Flo carries around a huge secret that has haunted her since her first marriage and Jane is having a hard time dealing with a cheating husband who died shortly after their divorce. Together each woman shares their past indiscretions and future dreams, while dealing with loss, renewal and starting over.

Let's chat about what to eat.

First, what is your name and how old are you?

I'm Brooke Dascoli and I'm 50 years old.

What is the time period in which you live?

    Present time.

    What is your favorite meal?

Oh gosh! I love Caesar Salad, especially with grilled chicken and an antipasto tray.

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

Absolutely. I will never eat lamb, octopus and salad with blue cheese dressing.

Tell us about a meal or food that says "home" to you.

You're asking me questions about my favorite subject, food. Lasagna, eggplant parmigiana and eggplant rollitini.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

    Simple. I don't eat it.

What is the worst meal you've ever eaten?

I had dinner at a client's house who added ketchup to her spaghetti sauce.

What is the best meal you've ever eaten?

I'm not a big steak eater, but I went to Peter Luger's Steak House in Brooklyn, New York and ate a steak that melted in my mouth. I've never had a steak like that ever again. I guess it's another trip to Peter Luger's.

Growing up, who was the best cook in your family?

My grandmother. She cooked old school Italian. There was always Italian bread with every meal. When she cooked, I always snuck a forkful from the pot. (The calories don't count when you're standing and picking from the pot.)

Have you ever eaten military style rations, and if so, what was your favorite?

Never ate like that. There was always a spread at my parent's and I always put out a spread.

If you cook, what kind of food do you like to prepare?

I try to keep it simple, especially in the summer. I get more creative in the winter making stews, meatloaf and chili. But in the summer it is always the quickest thing I can make on the barbecue.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

I very really eat breakfast. I do have breakfast for dinner many nights and I can do French toast for lunch. But eating breakfast is a big no.

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

I always have snacks. I keep pita chips, grapes, yogurt, almonds and yogurt covered pretzels on hand.

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

In the winter I have at least two cups of coffee in the morning. During the summer months, there are many times that I totally skip the coffee. If I do, it's usually a half of a cup.

    Favorite alcoholic beverage?

    Woo hoo! Prosecco.

    Favorite non-alcoholic beverage?

    Unsweetened ice tea with lemon.

What do you grab when there's no time for a regular meal?

A protein bar. Sometimes a piece of Italian bread with butter.

Who are your favorite people to share meals with?

My friends Flo and Jane who I met when I moved down here. We always find the time to eat together a few times a week to catch up.

Tell us what your author eats or drinks while writing about you.

My author is always with a glass of Prosecco when she writing about me. I've caught her many times had a half of sweet and low into her wine glass because it isn't sweet enough. She also likes eating cotton candy grapes.

If your author has a pet, what does she feed the animal?

She feeds her two cats Fancy Feast. But when she makes herself a turkey sandwich, she gives them a half of slice each sliced into pieces.

Same question for you. What do you feed your pet/s?

    I don't have any pets.

Jami, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Shadow’s Fall.

    Shadow’s Fall by Jami Gray

Genre Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

A trail of missing Kyn leads a powerful new threat into Raine’s backyard. Will she and Gavin be able to hold their own or fall under the weight of secrets haunting the shadows?

Shadowed secrets of the past darken the uncertain light of the future…

With the Kyn poised to step out of the shadows, Raine McCord and the Northwest Kyn are in a race against the clock to garner the humans’ acceptance of a supernatural community. The last thing she needs is a trail of missing Kyn. Especially one that leads back to a powerful new threat from Europe and straight into her backyard. Following the disjointed evidence disturbs the ashes of the past and suggest the mastermind behind the disappearances is an old enemy with a new agenda.

But the demons of the past aren’t satisfied sinking their claws into just Raine. This time, they’re determined to drag Gavin Durand, her lover and partner, into the pit right alongside her. As old betrayals tangle with hidden agendas and whispers of the past turn venomous, the two formidable Kyn must forge a new path into an uncertain future if the Kyn are to survive.

As the trail twists and turns, leaving undeniable scars in its wake, will Raine and Gavin be able to hold their own or fall under the weight of secrets haunting the shadows?

Ride the edge of excitement in this heart-pounding conclusion of Jami Gray’s fast-paced, suspense-filled, dark urban fantasy series, the Kyn Kronicles.

Why did you write this book?

The Kyn Kronicles was the first series I ever published and as new characters woke up, I would go tell their stories in-between visiting with the Kyn. I didn’t want to leave my readers hanging with this series, so I decided to go back to Raine and Gavin and bring both the Kyn and my readers to a good stop-and-catch-your-breath point while I work on other projects. It doesn’t mean the end of the Kyn, since I have more characters and stories waiting to be told, but those stories will come later.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I’m a huge bookworm, so I glut read everything from all sorts of romance, urban fantasy series galore, mysteries, and even dare to venture out into the unknown with sci fi and high fantasy. As long as the story is riveting, I’m there and hooked.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

Ohh, that depends on my mood and what real life is throwing at me, but for now I’m going to say John Wick. I love me a good gray character that I can fall in love with and who can resist a kick ass man who loves puppies?

What are you working on at the moment?

(looks around nervously and lowers voice) Okay, so you’re the first I’m sharing with outside my newsletter peeps, but after completing the Kyn, I’m diving back into my urban fantasy series, Arcane Transporter wit Rory and Zev. I love that world and the cars! (Fans face) adore getting to play with dream cars. So next year, keep an eye out cuz Rory and Zev are buckling up for another white-knuckle ride through the Arcane families.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

While I’m working with Rory and Zev, I’ll be head down on a keyboard, but over the holidays, I’ll probably package up some box sets now that I have completed series out there.

A few wrong turns lands her in the middle of a dispute, and the only way out is definitely not the easy path she had been looking for. Will a tenuous agreement with a handsome rebel be enough to guarantee her safe passage through the terrifying and beautiful realm?

Lorin, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Vale Born.

    Vale Born by Lorin Petrazilka

    Genre Fantasy Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

A thrilling adventure, a sexy escape. Desperate to find her missing best friend Josie, Lily Brennanfalk’s hope is renewed when she picks up Josie’s trail in a mystical world. A chance meeting with a charming Umorfae turns to a fight for survival, as Lily finds herself embroiled in a battle between the warring Fae.She makes a deal with a lethally attractive male that could save them both, as she tracks down her friend…if it’s not too late. She must grow past her trauma and learn what it means to be Vale Born, if she is going to survive the treacherous perils of Alternis.

    Tell us a secret!

Let us in on a few secrets about your book. We’d love to know more.

I was visiting my family’s Southern California ranch in the town of Elfin Forest when I had the idea for the series. If that name alone isn’t the start to a fantasy story, I don’t know what is! It’s so on the nose that I eventually changed the name to Black Oak Grove, and threw in some other elements to further fictionalize the town that the MC Lily grew up in.

Describe a scene you decided to cut. Bonus – explain how you decided.

This wasn’t a single scene, but four whole chapters, a huge cut! When I first started writing book 1 of the Vale Born series, it began in another location, before the actual story took off. It was a solid four chapters of pastoral humdrum scenes that I chopped. I was surprised it felt so good to remove them, I felt all-powerful in a way! These chapters helped me find my way to the story, but I realized they didn’t actually serve the story as a whole. I had once heard another author say it takes them a hundred pages to get to page one, that didn’t make sense to me until I cut these chapters. It was exactly what I needed to get to the compelling part of the story, the one that hooks readers.

What quirk of your own is written into one of your characters?

Lily’s snarky interior monologue. Though admittedly, mine isn’t always interior only!

A secret about you: What flaw makes you a better writer?

One of my flaws is my inability to be idle. I have a hard time sitting down to just watch a movie, or stop what I’m doing to relax. As a result I make a lot of progress, I work on my own writing a lot, I beta read for other authors, and I read often. I’m always thinking about writing and how I can improve my work. I believe because I’m always thinking about it even when I’m not doing it, I’m always improving.

Know the Heroine from Evil Lives in the Night by Jan Selbourne and Anne Krist @DeeSKnight @JanSelbourne #RLFblog #Historical #Suspense #RomanceIn Evil Lives in the Night, Jan and Anne’s historical suspense noir novellas were written to keep you guessing. Surprise endings await!

Anne, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Evil Lives in the Night.

Evil Lives in the Night by Jan Selbourne and Anne Krist

    Genre Historical mystery suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG+

Two great historical novellas that will keep you guessing.

In Jan Selbourne’s The Next Stop is Dead, a woman boards a city train one night and finds herself alone in the car with four strangers, all men. When she discovers one of them is dead, she has to find a way to exit the train and get help. Will she escape, or will the next stop be her final one?

In Anne Krist’s Missing, sisters Audra and Daina communicate using “twin language.” But how much difference will that make when Daina disappears? Can Audra find her sister before her abductor ends Daina’s life? Even with the help of an over-protective detective, saving her missing twin might not happen in time.

Know the Heroine from Evil Lives in the Night

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?

Audra has such a hectic schedule, she hardly has time to be bored. Plus, she’s almost always with her twin sister, Daina, and she can make anything boring into something fun. She’ll start singing, or grab Audra for a waltz around the room or suggest they race each other if they’re involved in a task that requires no thinking. Daina is the fun to Audra’s seriousness.

What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?

A Bing bar. They’re made at the Palmer Candy Company right there in Sioux City, Iowa. Dee-licious!

Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

Audra rarely wears pants or slacks outdoors. If she goes out, it’s in a dress or skirt. She wears low heels or sturdy shoes, and her hair is braided and then set in a twirl on her head, much the way her mother and grandmother wore it in years past. She’s a Lithuanian farmgirl moved to the city, but she likes the ways she was raised. Not so with Daina, but then, Daina might revert back to more of the family’s ways when she’s ready to settle down.

Does she know how to fix things?

Simple things. Her parents were farmers, unused to buying replacements. She was expected to keep things running as well as she could, and that meant repairing until whatever she was using wore out.

She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

How does she act around children she doesn’t know?

Audra loves children and she does very well with them, whether she is familiar with them or not. She’s quiet and calm, and her bearing helps children be quieter and calmer, too. She’s not averse to sitting on the floor (or the ground) and playing on their level.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

Audra doesn’t jump out of bed, but she does wake up awake. When the alarm goes off, she sits up, stretches and gets up. She says her prayers and prepares for the day. She likes coffee with her breakfast but she isn’t one of those people who “have” to have it before she functions.

How does she handle things when in a “proper” social situation?

She isn’t used to very formal situations. She doesn’t know which piece of silverware to use if they’re more than four pieces at a place setting, or own formal gowns, for instance. But she was raised with good manners and she’s always found a smile takes her far in any situation.

Maid or takes care of herself?

Oh, definitely takes care of herself. If she finds herself in a clothing pickle, Daina helps out.

    Proper dress or casual clothes?

A dress—clean, pressed, and to the knees—for church, along with gloves, a hat, and polished shoes. A skirt of casual wear, also to the knees. A pressed blouse. She mostly wears casual for work and school.

    Sleeves buttoned or rolled up?

She isn’t above rolling up her sleeves for chores, though normally she will wear blue jeans (or corduroy in winter) and a blouse when she’s cleaning or helping out at home.

    Powdered wig or natural hair?

Our stories take place in the mid-1950s, so no powdered wigs. I mentioned above how Audra wears her hair. Her twin, Daina, likes to wear hers down around her shoulders and turned under.

    Carriage or horseback?

Neither. They take the bus or they walk. Taxis fares are too expensive. Some—but not many–of their friends have cars but catching a ride somewhere is a treat, not a common occurrence.

Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

Her husband has been found hanged in a Bath hotel room, a note and a key to a property in Bath the only things she has left of him. And now the debt collectors will come calling.

To a new life as a madam.

Forced to leave everything she knows behind, Louisa finds more painful betrayals waiting for her in the house in Bath. Left with no means of income, Louisa knows she has nothing to turn to but her old way of life. A Widow’s Vow is the first book in the series

The series is complete with three books – The trilogy is A Widow’s Vow, Trouble For The Leading Lady & A Very Modern Marriage

Louisa Hill is the star of A Widow’s Vow, Nancy Bloom is the star of Trouble For The Leading Lady and Octavia Marshall is the star of A Very Modern Marriage

    Female empowerment, friendship and survival

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

    A Widow’s Vow
    Trouble For The Leading Lady
    A Very Modern Marriage

What did you like best about writing this series?

Oh, so much! All three women in the series are strong, ambitious with big hearts and each of them were a joy to write. I very much enjoyed getting to know them and then finding their perfect heroes.

Due to their feistiness and determination, I had to find men capable of meeting them equally and also allowing them to fly – a difficult thing to do among the Victorian male population but I managed it in the end!

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

My 29th published novel comes out in the Autumn so I’d better not list them all! I have a series of 8 books (The Templeton Cove Stories) with Harlequin and my series before the Ladies of Carson Street was the Shop Girl series. A four-book series set in Bath’s finest Edwardian department store – if you are a fan of Mr Selfrige or Downton Abbey, this series is perfect for you!
