What makes you different from other people?
Growing up we moved— A LOT! Which meant starting over every time in a new city or state.
What is your personality type?
I’m what most people call an extroverted introvert (an Ambivert). I can be social when required, but am most comfortable in my own space.
I learned very early to be quiet, listen and watch because kids can be brutal. If you were shy and unobtrusive most kids would leave you alone. As I aged, I realized how important it was to sound like the other kids and learned to pick-up whatever the local accent was from down south to the east and west coasts. I still tend to do this when traveling or at conferences.
During this time, books and music on the radio were my constant companions. I credit my growing up experiences as the time that started my writing career. I learned to read at a very early age and driving down the interstate I could read my books in the daylight but at night I relied on the radio. A line in a song would catch my attention and a story would start to build. When? Where? Why? and What if? are still my favorite game to play. I can still remember the first song that spurred a story. I even remember asking my dad if Garreth (the character in my first story) was a real name.
I fell in love with mysteries and soon my internal stories took on a suspense and danger angle. Next I found one of my grandmother’s Georgette Heyer books and there was no turning back.
Finally after a few other careers I find myself doing what I have always wanted to do with my life. I am a Romantic Suspense writer. My stories deal with love, loss, hate, envy, greed, regret, disappointment and so many other emotions that we all experience. Most importantly, there are families.
I write with six other authors in the Aspen Gold Series which is set in the fictitious town of Spencer, Colorado. Each author writes their own style of book, some sweet, some sexy, some paranormal, but all set in Spencer. All the books are standalone.
My books are essentially a series within a series. My characters have made a family, bound by friendships which is just as strong (maybe stronger) than blood. Hunter Lawe and Ruby from Sleepin’ Alone have created their chosen family. Another Night Alone is the most recent addition. But don’t miss my short story, Racing Heart, about the Gonzales family in Yesterday’s Promise, an Aspen Gold Short Story Collection.

Bernadette Jones has been making up stories since she learned to read on her daddy’s lap. She has imagined casts of characters everywhere she’s called home: Texas, Oregon, Washington, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Massachusetts, and now New York.
Books and music filled her life as she, her dad and two brothers traveled the country. She would sit in the back seat of the car—her older brother always got to ride shotgun—listening to the current music on the radio, looking out the window and spinning a story based on a phrase she’d heard in the lyrics. As you can imagine, traveling the country, the music changed from state to state, as did the stories. To this day, she enjoys a wide variety of music and book genres.
After a career in corporate writing, she’s decided to settle down and put pen to paper doing what she loves. Living the dream in her NYC apartment with her canine companion, she’s bringing her stories and characters to life.
