Jake Ross is a homegrown hockey star. He’s been traded back to the Clarington Quakes and spends most of his time avoiding the press and hockey-crazed fans.
Kelly wants to curb an alarming trend of drug abuse in local teens, and Jake, with his athleticism and sex appeal, would be the perfect spokesperson. Except there’s one problem – there’s nothing Jake craves more than privacy and solitude.
Jake finds Kelly irresistible and skates around the possibility of falling in love, but is she more attracted to hockey, fame, or him?

Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about the book.

    Dream Doctor by JJ DiBenedetto

Genre Cozy Mystery with a supernatural twist
Book heat level (based on movie ratings):PG
Between adjusting to life as a newlywed and trying to survive the first month of medical school, Sara Alderson has a lot on her plate. She definitely doesn’t need to start visiting other people’s dreams again. Unfortunately for her, it’s happening anyway.
Every night, she sees a different person and a different dream. But every dreamer has one thing in common: they all hate Dr. Morris, the least popular professor in the medical school, and they’re all dreaming about seeing him – or making him – dead.
Once again, Sara finds herself in the role of unwilling witness to a murder before it happens. But this time, there are too many suspects to count, and it doesn’t help matters that she hates Dr. Morris every bit as much as any of his would-be murderers do.
Dream Doctor is the first book of the Dream Doctor Mysteries.

Know the Heroine from Dream Doctor

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?
If her husband’s asleep, probably read ahead in her medical school textbooks, or email her best friend. If he’s awake…
What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?
Pizza. It’s quick and easy and she can eat it cold the next morning if there’s any left over.
Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.
Since she’s in medical school and she spends three days a week in anatomy class, it’s casual clothes that she doesn’t mind if they smell of formaldehyde.
Does she know how to fix things?
She can change a tire and do pretty basic repairs – her father taught her to be able to do for herself wherever possible. And she’s learning how to fix people, but since she’s just in her first year of med school, it’ll be a while before she can do surgery.
She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
When her med school classmate and friend Janet was going through a very rough time, Sara tried to get her to open up and talk about her problems, but it backfired, and Janet completely flipped out.
How does she act around children she doesn’t know?
She’d be friendly and approachable. She loves kids, and she wants to be a pediatrician.
What is she like first thing in the morning?
If she didn’t dream, or had a normal dream of her own, she’s pretty chipper when she wakes up. If she had one of her supernatural dreams where she visited someone else and saw something horrible, she’s a complete mess when she gets out of bed.
    Can she use chopsticks?
    Yes, but she doesn’t.
Does she drink coffee? If so, how does she take it? If not, what does she drink instead?
Definitely coffee. Black. And never decaf.
What apps would she have on her phone?
The book takes place in 1991, so she wouldn’t understand the question.
    Android or iPhone?
See above. But later in the series, as time goes on, she does have an iPhone.
    Earrings or unpierced ears?
    Earrings.
    Tattoos or unadorned skin?
Unadorned. She’s not a big fan of tattoos.
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
Personal car, although in this book since she’s living on campus she doesn’t need one. But in the next book, she drives the old Volvo passed down from her father-in-law.
    Recycle or toss?
    Definitely recycle.

Know the Heroine from Dropping Anchor in Naval Maneuvers by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #miitary #romanceDee S Knight, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about the book.

Naval Maneuvers by Dee S Knight

    Genre erotic romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Men and women of the armed forces experience desire and love pretty much like everyone else. Except, well, there is that uniform. And the hard-to-resist attraction of “duty, honor, service” as a man might apply them to a woman’s pleasure. All things considered, romance among the military is a pretty sexy, compelling force for which you’d better be armed, whether weighing anchor and moving forward into desire, dropping anchor and staying put for passion, or setting a course for renewed love with anchor home.
Know the Heroine from Dropping Anchor in Naval Maneuvers
Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.
It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?
Plays MENSA games on her phone. The girl is gorgeous, but she’s no dummy.
What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?
Carie isn’t much of a junk food girl. She’d pick up an apple and skip the chocolate.
Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.
A uniform when working—she’s a JAG officer—and loose fitting casual clothes when she’s relaxing. Of course, nothing is best when she’s with her sweetie, Todd Baxter.
Does she know how to fix things?
She knows how to fix coffee, and she knows how to make reservations. Anything else, she hopes she marries well.
She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
She tried to surprise Todd by dropping in on him without notice. She was the one surprised, and not in a happy way.
How does she act around children she doesn’t know?
Carie is not a child person. She keeps her distance when around children she doesn’t know. But since falling in love with Todd, she can finally see children in her future.
What is she like first thing in the morning?
So ready for action if Todd wakes her up. Otherwise, she’s one of those people who annoyingly wakes up with a sunny attitude and keeps it all day. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t turn into a shark when she’s handling a trial. The only thing she likes better than being with Todd is winning her cases.
    Can she use chopsticks?
She can but wonders why she should. It was fun when she was going out with college pals, but now, what’s the point? Food takes just as good using a fork.
Does she drink coffee? If so, how does she take it? If not, what does she drink instead?
Coffee? You mean life’s blood? Yes!! She drinks it often and she drinks it Navy strong!
What apps would she have on her phone?
The aforementioned MENSA games, Kindle, the Weather app, Google and Google maps, and email so she can stay in touch with the office. Carie prefers to interact with people rather than her phone, so she really only uses it when she has to or there is absolutely nothing else to do.
    Android or iPhone?
    iPhone
    Earrings or unpierced ears?
Earrings, even though while in uniform they have to be posts and demure.
    Tattoos or unadorned skin?
She has an intriguing tattoo of a dragon on her lower back, the result of a game she played in college. Todd is especially interested in finding out about her dragon.
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
She doesn’t mind public transportation but usually her job requires her to be flexible in getting around so she drives herself.
    Recycle or toss?
Definitely recycle. She’s responsible and civic-minded.
Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about the book.

    Claimed by Heather Hambel Curley

    Genre Paranormal romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
The first time the world ended, she went into hiding.
The second time, she became a fugitive.
When war breaks out between the Western State and Regent’s Block, two North American political coalitions, Wren Richards is forced into hiding. Her father insists that, as witches, they have more at risk; more to hide. It is a time of division, of careful planning and preparation. They conceal themselves and their power, living on only what they can grow and create with their own hard work.
But then there is a break in the doldrums of normalcy: Wren is sent to fetch supplies in town. Her younger sister tags along—it’s a waste of time, a waste of energy.
And then the atomic bomb hits.
    Everything changes.
Now Wren isn’t just a witch: she’s a survivor. A slave. A water seeker. A murderer. She and her sister are kidnapped and dragged to another dimension, a mirror of Earth, dying from nuclear winter. Energy is worth more than gold and harder to find. As witches, they’ll fetch a higher dollar at auction. Because as witches, energy can be sourced from their souls.
The only person who can save Wren is herself.
And she’s just been sold to the highest bidder.

    Know the Heroine from Claimed

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.
It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?
I try to stay out of trouble, I really do (leave the piano alone, Wren). I love art history, so I might pull out a book on art. Or history. Or, I’ll just throw caution completely to the wind and sleep.
What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?
Chips. It’s always chips. Potato chips, pickle chips, chocolate chips. Yum.
Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

I prefer dark colors. I work outdoors a lot now, so I usually wear leather trousers and sturdy, heavy boots for protection. A sheer tunic (to stay cool) underneath a black corset. The corset may seem like a hinderance, but trust me: I wouldn’t leave the homestead without it. I can hide a knife in the side lacing. I can conceal a pouch of gold down the front. It might not be armor, but it protects me. And improves my posture!
Does she know how to fix things?
I DO! Before the world ended, I wanted to go to school for art history. My father didn’t feel that held much of a future, so I dropped out and got a certificate in auto repair. I can fix engines and repair a lot of mechanical things. Oh, and my ex-boyfriend taught me to hot wire a car. It comes in surprisingly handy in this post apocalyptic world.
She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
I cannot cook to save my life. Luckily, it’s never actually come to that. The last time I tried to make a fancy dessert, I almost burned the house down. I was going to surprise my family with creme brulee and everything was going just fine…that is, until it said to burn the top. Crispy, crunchy goodness. We didn’t have a fancy “foodie” torch, so I used my blow torch….and proceeded to catch the drapes on fire. The creme brûlée, however, managed to stay runny and unscathed.
How does she act around children she doesn’t know?
Ehhh….I’m not good with kids. Strange kids, unfamiliar kids, family kids, sticky kids, loud kids. Kids just KNOW things. And they tend to flail around and break things. Yes, I realize this is not at all unlike how I am….but, no. I’d rather cross a desert than be stuck in a room with a random child.
What is she like first thing in the morning?
    Grumpy. I like my sleep!
How does she act around people who don’t know what she is?
My father always said that being a witch made us different. We had bigger responsibilities and there was more at stake if we screwed up. When I’m around people who don’t know I’m a witch, I just do what I always do: I hide it. I blend in, I act normal…or at least, what other people perceive as normal.
Will she let a worker handle things or do it herself?
I feel awkward having someone do work for me. I try, I really do, and stand off to one side to make sure they’re doing it right. And trust me, I bite my tongue to keep my thoughts to myself…it’s just,…look, I do things in certain ways. Ways that work. And I’m going to let you know that, especially because I can see you struggling to do it and—okay, look, just give it me and I”ll do it. No really, it’s fine. I’d prefer to do it.
    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
Just a hidden tattoo on my thigh of a sparrow, a spur of the moment decision when I turned 18. You know, the old rhyme about sparrows? “One is for sorrow, two is for joy….” I have two holes pierced in each ear, which seems pretty tame in retrospect.
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
Before the world ended, it was a sporty little British import or the cute farmhand’s rusted green pickup truck. Now, it’s by foot or with a stubborn old horse who would rather be napping in the barn….so, yeah, it’s pretty much by foot.
    Recycle or toss?
We didn’t take all that good care of the Earth to begin with so, now that we’ve destroyed it completely, I recycle what I can. Milk jugs into bird feeders, empty whipped cream containers into food storage. I’m thrifty and nifty, what can I say?
Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

Know the Heroine from The Unexpected Wife by Caroline Warfield @carowarfield #RLFblog #historicalromanceCaroline Warfield, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about the book.

The Unexpected Wife by Caroline Warfield

    Genre Historical Romance Victorian
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG 13
Charles Wheatly, Duke of Murnane, accepts an unofficial fact finding mission to the East India Company’s enclave in Canton, China on behalf of the queen. He anticipates intrigue, international tensions, and an outlet for his grief over the death of his young son. He isn’t entirely surprised when he also encounters the troublesome offspring of his mentor, the Duke of Sudbury, but the profound love he discovers for the determined young woman is unforeseen and untimely. Charles certainly doesn’t expect to also face his troubled marriage in such an exotic locale. The appearance of his estranged wife in the company of their enemy throws the entire enterprise into conflict, and tensions boil over when the woman he loves is put at risk by his wife’s scheming–and the beginnings of the First Opium War.
Zambak Hayden seethes with frustration. A woman her age has occupied the throne for over a year, yet the Duke of Sudbury’s line of succession still passes over her–his eldest–to land on a son with neither spine nor character. When she follows her brother to Macau the greed and corruption she finds horrifies her, especially when her brother succumbs to the lure of opium. She isn’t about to bend to the dictates of a family friend nor give up her quest. Her traitorous heart, however, can’t stop yearning for a man she can’t have.
Can their love survive as an epic historical drama unfolds around them?

Know the Heroine from The Unexpected Wife

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?
She has a bad habit of breaking into her host’s office late at night. He’s the superintendent of trade for Canton and she can’t resist spying.
What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?
    Steamed dumplings
Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.
She tried boys clothing and found it very freeing, but what she enjoys the most are her Manchu lady’s dresses. The are colorful and feminine but comfortable and don’t require a corset.
Does she know how to fix things?
Zambak can pick locks, a spring the hidden panel in a trunk but that’s about it.
She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
She disguised herself as a seaman to smuggle herself into Wampao where no western women go. Unfortunately Charles, the Duke of Murnane, already intended to go there and chose that ship to sail on. More unfortunately, she knows nothing about seamanship and was forced to climb the mast. Most unfortunate of all, Charles had no problem recognizing the derriere climbing the mast. He wondered if the other men were blind.
How does she act around children she doesn’t know?
Zambak has very little experience with children and is quite awkward. When her friend Temperance hands my heroine her tiny daughter, however, what can she do? Snuggling comes naturally.
What is she like first thing in the morning?
    Chocolate always.
How does she handle things when in a “proper” social situation?
Her mother, the Duchess of Sudbury, trained her well. She knows which spoon to use, how to follow precedence, and how to subdue an encroaching worm with a single scathing glance. She can keep conversation flowing, override uncomfortable moments, and bring out the shyest companion. She can also give the cut direct with ruthless effect.
Maid or takes care of herself?
She accepts the services of a maid as an annoying necessity. She is adept at bribing servants of all kinds, however.
    Proper dress or casual clothes?
    Whichever suits the occasion.
    Sleeves buttoned or rolled up?
    Rolled up
    Powdered wig or natural hair?
Oh please. Natural … but in 1838 this no longer comes up.
    Carriage or horseback?
Carriage, although she likes to walk, and can go great distances on foot.

During the duel with Lord Sarc of Alphxorn she came to recognize and know the woman inside. She continues to hold her values sacred and but she develops a different view of duty to her people. She knows, she will always be a warrior though Lord Sarc preferred her to play a less active role in the worlds’ defense, which put them at odds, but Zera will not compromise her identity.
Who is the significant other in your character’s life?
Sarc, Lord of both worlds, Alphxorn and now, Seti-Cronus, Zera’s husband. Sarc’s presence fills the room commanding immediate attention. He is a natural leader who rarely needs to raise his voice, his stare is sufficient. When necessary, he is a superb warrior and the only one who has ever bested Zera in a sword duel. His is faithful to his word, principles and peoples.
    How does your heroine dress?
Zera, as a warrior prefers to dress as a commander of Seti-Cronus. Until her wedding she owned only three dresses and rarely wore them. Her wedding gown became the first feminine gown she owned or wore. Since becoming co-monarch, she appears in uniform when on duty as Commander Zera in defense of the planet. She varies her wardrobe between long, flowing dresses, comfortable pants and blouses and gowns when appropriate.
What is your character’s family like?
Her younger sister, Terianna, is all the immediate family she has. Her twin brother, Enos, who was a few minutes older, ruled before he was murdered. He was a fair and benevolent monarch and a loving brother. Lornus, their nanny, raised all three royal children and served various other roles to all the children, but to Zera, she is lady’s maid, friend and surrogate mother.
Her mother, who long ago passed when Terianna was born. Her father passed when she and her brother were sixteen.
    Is she close to family?
Zera treasures her sister and Lornus. When Enos was killed, she was devastated and became more protective of her little sister. But she came to realize Terianna was less naïve about men than she. Though her mother is dead, she isn’t completely cut off from her. On Seti-Cronus there are occasions when her mother’s spirit transcends and can communicate through the mystical ancestral, heirloom sword passed to both daughters.
I don’t believe the relationship with Sarc can be explained so briefly. Possibly by reading Zera and Sarc’s story, a deeper understanding can be found.
What inner doubt causes your character the most difficulty?
Growing up in a ruling family, as the next in line, but not wishing to rule and remain a warrior placed Zera in an unenviable position. Given power and position as a royal, she earned rank and respect in the military. She is confident in her leadership of warriors into battle, but finds it difficult to resolve the responsibility of wisely governing the planet.
What past event causes your character the most fear?
The death of Zera’s brother terrified her. She felt his passing and the emptiness that followed challenged her strength.
What is your character’s biggest need at the beginning of the story?
Zera’s duty to her people and their security over her personal welfare.
What is your heroine’s biggest personal flaw?
Zera keeps her emotions close and doesn’t share them. She projects a confident and assured façade and never shows fear regardless of the toll on her emotions.
How does your character handle challenges?
Zera has been instructed how a royal and a warrior leads since childhood and that includes meeting challenges head-on. She fails—once.
Who in her life has the power to hurt this character the most? Why?
Lord Sarc, conquer of her world and her heart. Zera is forced to face her own vulnerability as a woman and as a ruler and into an intimate relationship with a man she considered an enemy for most of her life.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

She could have left out the one time I failed to face a challenge.

Why do you think your writer loves to write?

It’s been awhile, about four years, since I last published. I hope those who have, in the past, read my works haven’t forgotten me. Since then I’ve moved a couple of times, have had a few adventures and have finally found home. My husband, daughter, two dogs and several cats, have settled into a cute little bump in the road town in Eastern Tennessee. Our valley is so tucked away in between mountain ridges our cell phones don’t receive necessitating a landline and satellite everything else. I know for sure the rock wall in our backyard, that serves as property divider, is Civil War era. It’s a great place for my wayward imagination. Seriously, I think we have fae frequenting the backyard and at night I expect to see a UFO land in the hayfield I can see out the front bay-windows.
Though I have kept my website up and running, until about a year ago I’ve had a major writer’s block that I managed to move past. I also made the decision to Indie publish. While I do have one book, Tail of the Dragon, which remains with Decadent Publishing, I have withdrawn my other works. Over the next months, I plan to republish them beginning with Blood of the Ruby Throne. The others will follow after I’ve revisited them. With the assistance of a wonderful editor, I have had the pleasure to work with, you will see them re-released. I also have several new works coming, as well as a series I’ve been working on for a long time.
I’ve missed being an active author and I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
