  • Character Interviews,  Fantasy

Lyerra Ahdia from The Rose Hunter by @ciaragold #RLFblog #fantasy

    Interview with Lyerra Ahdia

This interview is designed for your hero or heroine to tell
    readers about himself or herself.
    Tell us about
    yourself, please.
I was born in the human realm in 1251 AD but shortly after
taken to Alfheim Haven. I never knew my mother but the other elfin witches
whispered of her betrayal. My aunt took care of me in the beginning but fled
when madness claimed her good senses and I was sent to live at the Castle
Hamingjur where I honed my magick. Some would call me privileged in that
respect as I had the ear of the Keeper himself until he met the human who would
become his one true love. I hold no grudges and never did especially after
    meeting my own human.
    Authors call what you
want but cannot have “the conflict” — what is yours?
Ah. The conflict. I desperately needed to feel whole again
but the change toyed with my emotions and stripped me of magick at the worst
possible times. My greatest gift is the ability to heal, to absorb another’s
pain and sickness but my affliction rendered me useless to those who needed me
most. That is, it did until the human came into my life.
What can you not do (but
need to do) during this story?
I need to feel in control of my destiny. I was sent into the
human realm to redeem my family’s name. My mother had stolen the Rose of Amondeir,
and I’d been charged with its safe return to Alfheim Haven, but the change made
the journey more difficult. Toad spores. I needed my powers to see the mission
to completion, but the infernal change made me vulnerable and beholding to a
    human.
    What inner doubt
    causes you the most difficulty?
I sincerely doubt my ability to find the Rose. The jewel has
been lost to us for well over 500 human years.
The only clue I have is a Templar Knight’s tunic and a medallion my
    mother bequeathed me.
    In the story world
your author created, explain what it is you fear most and why.
Everything I’ve ever known about myself unraveled the day I
met Lucian Willshire.  An elfin witch
should feel no desire for a human and yet…what I fear most is losing who I am,
of becoming someone or something different. Unfortunately, Lucian holds the key
to seeing me overcome my ailment.
    Tell us about your
significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
From the very beginning, Lucian has set my world on edge. When
the change fell upon me, he alone restored my magick with just a touch. I could
not make the journey without his help and while he did so grudgingly, I
discovered that behind his sometimes gruff manner, hides a man dedicated to his
convictions, a man driven to effect change for a society bent on turning a
blind eye to the poor and destitute. He became more than a means to an end and
each day I fall more in love. Did you know? I gave up my world to be with him
    and I have no regrets.
    What would that
    person say about you?
Oh goodness. He will say I’m stubborn to a fault and
determined. I took a risk to follow him into the human realm so he’ll say I’m
no coward and yet, he’ll also say he understands my motivation, my need to help
my world thrive by returning the Rose to its rightful place.
    What is your family
    like?
They’re all witches. Well, not entirely. My extended family
includes trolls, gnomes, faeries and meddlesome pixies. I am blessed with a
    rather enchanted family.
    What special skills
    do you rely on?
All elfin witches need faery dust to levitate so while it’s
useful, it’s not my most valued skill. My most valued skill is my ability to
heal, but I can also make you see something that’s not there. A most useful
gift when trying to hide something in plain sight, wouldn’t you agree?
    If someone from your
past showed up, who would you NOT want it to be, and why?
The only enemy that comes to mind is Edward Chauss, the late
Duke of Somerton. A very nasty man who let greed get in the way of true
happiness. Did you know, he actually kidnapped me in hopes of securing
possession of Beletania’s Diary? He meant me great harm and all because with
the diary he’d have access to an endless supply of gold. No, I would not want
to see him ever again. The mere thought causes my heart to race with
trepidation. Toad spores, but let’s do talk about something more pleasant.
    Why are you happy (or
not happy) with the way your story ended?
I could not be happier. I found my soul mate and love has a
way of making insurmountable problems seem small and petty.

    About the Author

    Ciara wrote her
first “under the bed” book at twenty. Another fifteen years passed before she
bravely attempted another, but she’s been happily writing ever since. A true
Renaissance woman, when she’s not penning lively stories, she’s reading,
sewing, painting, camping, sailing or dancing. A recent empty nester, she and
her soul mate currently live on a modest plot of land surrounded by trees, a
pond, an array of wildlife and seven barn kitties. .
    What was your biggest
    challenge in writing this book?
Time. I began this story shortly after writing The Keeper of
Moon Haven. The project took well over five years to complete. Part of the
reason had to do with research and finding the answer to my own questions on
where the Rose could be hidden and why.
    Why did you choose
this character for the interview today?
Lyerra has always had a special place in my heart. Her path
wasn’t easy, but I felt she had the more interesting storyline of the two main
characters. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Lucian’s character as well, but Lyerra
is more playful, more willing to divulge secrets about herself that Lucian
    would have been.
    When writing the
book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
Her resilience and her ability to change and grow. She started
out as a rather shallow creature in The Keeper of Moon Haven but when she got
her own story, I discovered how much more there was to her character.
    Are any sequels
    planned for this book?
Yes. I’ve already started two in fact but again, I write
slow so who knows when I’ll have either done. The first is her parent’s story
and this will take a lot of research. I am excited about the project but don’t
expect it will go very fast. The other is set in 1878 and I’ve yet to figure
out which characters from The Rose Hunter will make an appearance. The main
character for this one is a leprechaun.
    What genre(s) would
you like to write that you haven’t tried yet?
Maybe steampunk. I’ve written fantasy paranormal, sci fi
futuristic, historical western, time travel and suspense though to be quite
honest my favorite to write are the ones with paranormal elements.
    What would your
readers be surprised to learn about you?
That I spent three years as a dental assistant before going
back for a teaching degree in art. This is my thirtieth year teaching high
    school art.
    Why should readers
who haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
The Rose Hunter is more than a romance. The Rose Hunter is a
magical journey, a fairytale for adults. Readers will be charmed by a
meddlesome pixie, intrigued by the mystery of the Rose and delighted by the
    love story that unfolds.
    Is there anything
you’d like to say to your readers?
Thank you for taking the journey with me, for allowing me to
entertain you with my wild imagination.
    Please tell us about
    your latest book.

Penthesilia from The Wrath of Aphrodite by @CGWilliamsauth #RLFblog #Mythicfiction

C.G. Williams shares details about the creation of Penthesilia in the
    book The Wrath of Aphrodite.

    About the Book

Title: The Wrath of Aphrodite Book 1
    Genre: Mythic Fiction
    Author: C.G. Williams
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
    In
the last year of the Trojan war, Penthesilia, an Amazon war captain, leads a
contingent of fierce Amazon warriors to Troy, to ally with the great city
against the Achaean forces. She wins victory in her battles with Achaeans and
    inspires the Trojan army anew.
    Her
battles with Achilles are the greatest of all. Who will be the victor? The
ruthless Achilles or the merciless Penthesilia? Both born under auspicious
signs, both rumored to be the offspring of an immortal, and both matchless
warriors, unrelenting in their bloodlust. Victory is within their reach, all
they have to do is win the fight. Mortals and Immortals watch breathless for
    the outcome.
During a brief conversation they insult the Goddess Aphrodite,
mocking her greatest gift – Love. Furious with these two great warriors,
Aphrodite retaliates and sends her son Eros with two arrows imbued with a love
so potent and consuming, it will have only one outcome, destruction.
    This
story unfolds in a three Novella series.

    Introducing Penthesilia

This interview is designed to tell readers about your hero or heroine.
    Name: Penthesilia
    Age: 23
    Gender: Female
Birthplace: Themiscrya, the capital of the Amazon people.
    Profession: War Captain
Ethnicity/Species (if not human): Amazon from Themiscrya, she is
    multiracial like most Amazons.
    Describe his/her body
build, skin tone, height and weight. Include any unique features such as
    dimples, freckles, or scars
    : Tall, muscular, olive
skin, dark, curly hair, usually pulled back. She has scars from battles and a
distinct three line scar from her buttocks to her thigh from hunting a wild
    cat.
    Who is the significant
    other in your character’s life?
    Achilles
    Tell us about this
    character, please.
Achilles is the Myrmidon war Captain with the Achaean army. He is a
the greatest of the Achaean warriors fighting against Troy and he knows it.
Brash and arrogant, he’s been educated by the great teacher Chyron and knows
that his destiny of glory is to be made on the Trojan shore. What he does not
know is the destiny of his heart is destruction followed by madness, or that his
greatest love is also his greatest enemy.
    How does your heroine
    dress?
Penthesilia is an Amazon warrior as such she wears armor into battle.
Her hair is usually tightly plaited and secured back as to not make her
vulnerable to an opponent. Her helmet is embossed with horse faces that cover
her cheekbones, the nose of the horses meet over her nose merging with the
protective plate that runs up between her eyes meeting with the skull
protector. Below hinged plates with the horses legs nearly touch beneath her
lips. When temperatures are cooler she wears a leopard skin beneath her armor
to keep warm. She wears greaves, chest armor, thigh protection and carries a
crescent shaped shield. She is armed with sword, spear, Labrys and arrows.
When not on the battlefield Penthesilia dresses in simple well made
tunics. Not someone who requires much adornment except for a few pieces of
prized jewelry here and there like an armlet she took from an enemy.
When she disguises herself to cross into the enemy Achaean camps to do
recognizance, her hair is loose and she wears a scullery maids dress.
    If you could only hear
this character’s voice (but not see her) what characteristic would identify
    her?
She has a pleasant mellifluous speaking voice and she has a loud,
cutting, strident voice she uses in battle, which is quite distinctive.
    How educated is this
    character?
Penthesilia is very well educated. She is the daughter of a Queen and
she speaks several languages. She has spent thirty six moon cycles training to
be an elite Amazon Warrior. She knows the history of her people and their
allies and enemies. She is a priestess of the goddess Artemis.
    Is the character
    book-smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
Penthesilia is well read and she is constantly learning and
experiencing new things. She has fought with a variety of enemies and always
    emerged victorious.
    Does she scrape by, live
    comfortably, live extravagantly?
Penthesilia has lived by the highest standards of the Amazon court.
She has also struggled to survive in muddy battlefields with only her wits and
    prowess to keep her alive.
    What is your character’s
    viewpoint on wealth?
As an Amazon trade is important to the economics of their people. She
has never wanted for material items, but wealth is something shared amongst
there people and they wish to continue to thrive.
    On what special skills
    does your character rely?
She is a matchless warrior with nothing to lose. The accuracy of her
aim is blessed by the Immortals and she never misses.
Are any of her skills a
source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
Because her aim is divine her older sister was killed during a hunt
when she stepped into the path of Penthesilia’s spear. She would give up
everything to have her beloved sister back again.
    What kinds of things does
your character always carry (in pockets or purse)?
There are some Amazon fetishes for protection of the Goddess, but she
doesn’t always carry them. She usually has a knife.
    What is your character’s
    family like?
Penthesilia’s mother is from a line of Amazon royalty. Her grandfather
is Theseus, one of the great Kings of Athens. Penthesilia’s own father was a
gifted warrior who was banished from his kingdom and during his wanderings he
fought against Penthesilia’s mother Queen Otrere. During the truce ritual they
laid together conceiving Penthesilia. She never knew her father but she was
raised as the daughter of a Queen with a tight network of friends and family
    about her.
    Is she close to family?
She is very close to her family and to her sisters.
    Does he have children?
Penthesilia has no children, she had neither the time nor inclination.
Is your character involved in his community?
As a warrior to the realm of Amazon her life is dedicated to the
protection of her community and people.
How well does she know the
    neighbors?
She knows the neighboring Kingdoms well, but this is her first visit
to Troy. Once there she immerses herself and learns a great deal about the
Trojan people and the royal family.
    Does this character see
morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
She is a very black and white person at the beginning of the story.
But once compromised by the will of Aphrodite, lines become blurred. The only
thing she has to hold true to is her sacrifice to the Goddess Artemis.
    How do others perceive
your character based upon looks, and is is this assumption accurate?
The Amazon warriors are intimidating and it is an accurate assumption.
    Does your character care
about what others assume about him?
She cares what her fellow Amazons think of her and she cares about
what Hector thinks of her, because she has a deep and abiding respect of him.
    If someone from your
character’s past showed up, who would she most want it to be, and why?
She misses her dead sister and would give everything she could to have
    her alive and with her.
    If someone from your
character’s past showed up, who would she most NOT want it to be, and why?
A king that she vanquished in a terrible war. He was destructive to
the sacred Amazon forest and he killed her lover and fellow Amazon warrior Thalestris.
    Can your heroine keep a
    secret (why or why not)?
She discovers she is quite good at keeping a secret.
    What secrets does your
character know about people around her that she does NOT share?
It is her own secret that she doesn’t want to share.
    What inner doubt causes
    your character the most difficulty?
She is drawn back to Achilles repeatedly and she knows her tactical
information is complete. It is against her better judgment, she knows it’s
madness yet she returns to him.
    What past event causes
    your character the most fear?
The death of her sister hangs over her like a pall.
    What is your character’s
biggest need at the beginning of the story?
Redemption, cleansing and finally a sacrifice to the Goddess Artemis.
    What is your heroine’s
    biggest hopes and dreams?
Penthesilia’s greatest hope is to honor her sacrifice to the Goddess
Artemis. As for her dreams she has not allowed herself any thought of the
future other than to kill the enemies of Troy.
    What would help your
character face hardship and meet any challenge?
Her dedication to her people as a defender of Amazon is where she
finds her strength. Doing her service in the greater good of her people.
    If your character could
make any one thing happen, what would it be?
    Bring her sister back.
    What is your heroine’s
    biggest personal flaw?
She lacks empathy at the beginning from being battle hardened. By the
end of the story she’s found feelings again.
    When there is a setback,
    what doubt or flaw surfaces?
I think setbacks make her more determined to complete her tasks.
Nothing will deter her from making sacrifice to the Goddess Artemis.
    How does your character
    handle challenges?
She’s extremely adaptable, her minimal warrior lifestyle does not
leave room for attachment. And then one day she forms a very deep attachment to
someone she should not even be on speaking terms with.
    What is your heroine’s
    breaking point?
Penthesilia broke when she accidentally killed her sister during a
hunt. From then on she has only a few things in life she really wants.
    How does your character
    express disappointment?
    Penthesilia retreats into solitude.
    How emotionally expressive
    is your character to others?
Depending on the situation, she can be cold and aloof or if among
friends and loved ones passionate and open.
When (if) she lies or is
    upset, what gives him away?
Penthesilia is one cool cookie. She doesn’t have any tells because
that can get you killed on the battlefield. When confronted with her subterfuge
and deception she willingly takes responsibility.
Who in her life has the
power to hurt this character the most and why?
Her fellow Amazons because they are her closest people. Hector,
because she deeply respects him, he is better than this war without honor and
Achilles, if he finds out the truth about her it would be catastrophic.

    About Your Writer

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
I think C.G. Williams chose to write about me because she was
fascinated by brief descriptions left by Homer. She wanted to write my story
with complexity and richness of culture that she’d not found in other fictional
writings about Amazons. She loves kick ass women that navigate their way
    through difficult terrain.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
I wish that she’d left private the details of my affair with Achilles.
    What other character from
your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
Any one of the Amazon warriors that came with me, for example Ainia
the fastest Amazon to set feet upon this earth. Harmothoe the Amazon who has
the gift of communion with animals and Bremusa who is a granddaughter of
Hercules and a priestess of the Dark Artemis Hecate.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
My writer loves to write because it takes her to a place outside this
physical realm. She can travel deep into imagination and once that stream flows
    it is epically delightful.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your writer?
    Thanks for telling my side.

The Rose Hunter a new #fantasy romance by @ciaragold #RLFblog

This quick interview includes info about the author, and
    introduces the story.

    Interview with Ciara Gold

    Why did you write
    this book?
The Rose Hunter is actually a sequel to The Keeper of Moon
Haven. I’ve always had an active imagination. As an art teacher, I felt stifled
with no studio in which to create my own art so I decided to try writing. I
love it. I love creating fantastical worlds with interesting characters and
thus The Keeper of Moon Haven was born and in grand order, The Rose Hunter.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
I love historical western romances. They are my “comfort”
read. I figure it’s because I can relate to a lot of scenes. I camped a lot
when I was young and always thought I’d marry a rancher but alas, I married my
    own true love instead.
    Who is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own)?
I have many favorites, but Benjamin Colter from Joan
Johnston’s Colter’s Wife has always held a special place in my heart. I can’t
pinpoint why except maybe he reminds me a lot of my own husband; he’s honest,
caring, rough around the edges and knows his mind.
    What are you working
on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
     I tend to work on
more than one project at a time. Currently, I’ve started another sequel to The
Rose Hunter, but I’m also working on two historical western romances. I will
probably have one of the westerns done before the sequel to The Rose Hunter.
    Please tell us about
    your latest book.
    Lucian Willshire is
plagued by thoughts of a fey world and the disappearance of his aunt some
nineteen years past, but when his friend drags him back to Hamingjur Castle, he
stumbles into Alfheim Haven once more where mystical beings become more than a
    distant memory.
    Lyerra Ahdia is baffled
by the sudden emotional changes she’s experiencing until she discovers she’s
the only witch to suffer “the change” since her mother stole the Rose, a
special talisman with the power to perpetuate life among those in her coven.
Tasked with finding and bringing the Rose home, she begs Lucian’s help in
navigating the human realm. Against his better judgement, he agrees.
                Though
neither set out to find anything except the Rose, fate has other plans. Will
love be more elusive than hunting the Rose?

#RLFblog #Elf Prince Kort Elias, heir apparent to the throne of Chalvaren & #Dragon Commander @pmillhouse

Paula Millhouse shares details about the creation of Elf
Prince Kort Elias in the book Chalvaren Rising.

    About the Book

    Title Chalvaren Rising
    Genre Fantasy Romance
    Author Paula Millhouse
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
With the love of Kort, Chalvaren’s warrior-prince
heir, Mia Ansgar will seize her birthright and become the great dragon-riding
wizardess prophesied to free that elven kingdom from her embittered sorceress
    kin.

    To Ascend Triumphant

Twenty-five years ago, Theo Ansgar abandoned the
Kingdom of Chalvaren for a hiding place on another world. Some called him
traitor. Some, thief. Now his fully grown daughter Mia must return to the land
    of her birth…and their war.
It was the elf prince Kort Elias who brought her back.
Theirs was an instant connection, an inescapable union of body, soul and
sorcery, reminding Mia of what she truly is, and what she must become. There is
also Magnus, destined to be more potent than any wyrm Chalvaren has ever seen,
a three-day-old dragonlet Mia must nurture and then ride. And then there is the
Dragonstone, an artifact of power nonpareil. Joined, they can tip the scales of
battle against the wraith-possessed forces of darkness, of Mia’s own embittered
    kin.
Redemption will be offered, the protected will become
the protector, and an ancient prophecy will come to fruition, but only righteous
    love can conquer all.

    Introducing Kort Elias

Elf Prince Kort Elias, heir apparent to the throne of
Chalvaren, Dragon Commander of the fighting dragons of Castle Elias
    Name: Kort Elias
    Age: 27ish (in human years)
    Gender: Alpha Male
Birthplace: Castle Elias in the Kingdom of Chalvaren
Profession: Dragon Commander, rightful heir to the Elias
    Throne
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human): Elf
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight.
Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Kort Elias
stands six-foot something, covered with hard muscle. His light skin tone contrasts
with colorful tattoos on his shoulders of elven runes heralding his culture’s
beliefs in courage, love and strength. His brilliant crystal blue eyes lead up
to pointed ears that jut out from his head of long, blonde hair.
    Who is the
significant other in your character’s life?
Mia Ansgar, the love of his life, an elf he brought home to
Chalvaren from her hiding place on Earth.
    Tell us about this
    character, please.
    How does your hero
    dress?
Kort wears leather armors, boots, and carries a longbow for
dragon training. You’ll find him wearing soft casual trousers and often no
shirt for relaxing. And god-forbid, formal royal regalia for his mother’s
official castle functions. Yeah, he hates those occasions, but damn he looks
    good in a suit.
    On what special skills
    does your character rely?
Blessed with magic by his chief deity Varik, Kort uses his
royal blue aura to communicate with his dragons. Later he finds using his aura particularly
satisfying when he and Mia blend their auras to enhance their love life.
    Is he close to
    family?
Kort’s parents are King Lachlan and Queen Elissabet Elias.
He’s the eldest brother of Ian, Quinn, and Brite Elias.
Kort takes his family’s protection and preservation
seriously. He not only loves them, he plays with them. Cards with his father in
the King’s Library, dragon-wrangling with his younger brothers, and he’s been
known to take in secret tea parties with five year old Princess Brite Elias and
    her imaginary friends.
    Does he have
    children?
Not yet, but he wants to parent with Mia more than anything.
Their first charge is the dragonlet Magnus whom they nurture together in
Chalvaren Rising – kind of like a new couple takes in a puppy to raise.
    Is your character
    involved in his community?
Kort is tied to his community at Castle Elias in an intimate
way. His skills as Dragon Commander, his affinity for teaching dragons and
elves to work together to protect their home builds important relationships
with everyone in the castle. But, incorporating Mia into castle life proves one
of Kort’s biggest challenges. She’s related to Chalvaren’s public enemy number
one – Isa Ansgar – a dragon killer.
    What inner doubt
causes your character the most difficulty?
The inner doubt Kort won’t be able to stop Isa Ansgar from
killing Chalvaren’s dragons and taking over Castle Elias, or that Mia might
join Isa’s forces of dark magic.
Not only does Mia control the Dragonstone, an elven artifact
of power nonpareil, the only Sprit dragon know to the realm has imprinted on
Mia, and if Isa gets her hands on Magnus and Mia, Chalvaren could be doomed.
    What is your hero’s biggest
    hopes and dreams?
Kort’s biggest hope, his dearest dream is that Mia will
marry him and together they’ll build a future dynasty in Chalvaren. He wants to
nurture Magnus (the dragonlet) into his role as dragon ambassador so he can reunite
all the dragon of Chalvaren. After all, the castle with the most dragons wins,
    right?
    If your character
could make any one thing happen, what would it be?
    Kill Isa Ansgar himself.
    What is your hero’s
    breaking point?
When he sees Mia sitting at Isa Ansgar’s side – it’s the
darkest moment for him in Chalvaren Rising.
    How emotionally
expressive is your character to others?
He yells. A lot. Training elves to ride dragons demands it,
but he’s finding out his headstrong ways don’t work in every relationship.
Mia’s set him straight on that point more than once.
    BONUS:
    Paula: Kort – is
it true the dragon Garnet the Red has the power of speech but never talked to
you before Mia showed up in Chalvaren? And if so, why?
    Kort: Umm, yeah.
It’s true. It would have been great to talk to him all those years, Paula and
Kayelle, but I think he held silent until Mia showed up because she reminds him
of her father, Theo Ansgar. Garnet was Theo’s dragon, see. Honestly, I think
the beast was so sad Theo abandoned him he couldn’t find his voice until I
    brought Mia back to Chalvaren.
    Paula: Why are you
so hell-bent on stopping Isa Ansgar?
    Kort: She kills
dragons. She kidnaps and possesses Chalvaren’s elves with black magic and turns
them into hideous creatures known as Shadow Elves. Any threat to my family like
that, to my people and my dragons, will not be tolerated. If Isa wants her war
I’ll be first in line on the battlefield.

    About Your Writer

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
Thanks for asking, Kayelle. Paula chose to write about me
because I’m the only character who could tell this story, well, me and Mia,
that is. I showed up for work one day and bothered her until she had no other
choice but to tell Readers about Chalvaren Rising.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
I’m not fond of the fact she divulged my fears – of losing
Mia, of how embarrassed I was when Magnus couldn’t land, or roar. Of how badly
I wanted to be the one to silence Isa Ansgar – but couldn’t do that alone. I’m
the king’s son, right – people aren’t supposed to know all that internal conflict
    garbage about heroes, right?
    What other character
from your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
Any of the other wizards in Chalvaren, but Lucan Brix
fascinates me. My uncle’s command over magic helped me get Magnus back to
Chalvaren – and to find Mia. What Lucan went through in Chalvaren Rising was
    hard as hell.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
I think she’s this amazing human who’s got the Universal
Story inside her soul. She understands the value of entertainment to society.
She likes to see the good guys win, and she’s all about the Happily Ever After
even if she makes it hard as hell to get there.
    Is there anything
you’d like to say to your writer?
I’m damn glad you took the time to tell our story, Paula.
The fact that you understand how I believe Love Is Worth Fighting For means
everything to me. Mia, and Magnus, and hell, the whole Kingdom of Chalvaren are
all better off because you wrote our story down, and found our perfect editor. Thank
you. The Kingdom’s portal is always open for you and your friends to come and
visit. That includes you too, Kayelle, and all your readers.

    Author Bio

Paula Millhouse is the writer of books where fantasy, romance,
and suspense collide, including Chalvaren Rising, its prequel, Dragonstone, and
Three Wishes. Dragonstone also appears in the anthology, A Gift of Fantasy. These
stories are published by Boroughs Publishing Group.
“I wanted to find out what would happen if I designed a world
where fantasy lovers get their adventure quest, but also gave their girlfriends
a healthy dose of grown-up romance along the way. How can we blend High Fantasy
and Romance into a story that leaves the Reader breathless, where magic and suspense
collide in a spellbinding imaginary world?”
When not following her muse on quests for happily ever afters,
Paula works in the field of medicine as a Family Nurse Practitioner by day, and
micro-gardens in her potager with her husband and their pack and pride of furry
babies. Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, where Spanish moss whispers tales
in breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, as a child Paula soaked in the sunshine and
heritage of cobblestones, pirate lore, and stories steeped in savory mysteries of
    the south.
She’s a PRO member of Romance Writers of America, and the Fantasy,
Futuristic, & Paranormal Writers specialty chapter. She lives in the mountains now, but she honors her southern heritage
as a storyteller by sharing her adventures in fiction with readers.

    The Challenge a new #historical fantasy by @KimHeadlee #RLFblog

This quick interview includes info about the author, and
    introduces the story.

    About the Author

Kim Headlee lives on a farm in
southwestern Virginia with her family, cats, goats, Great Pyrenees goat guards,
and assorted wildlife. People and creatures come and go, but the cave and the
250-year-old house ruins—the latter having been occupied as recently as the
mid-twentieth century—seem to be sticking around for a while yet.
Kim is a Seattle native and a
direct descendent of twentieth-century Russian nobility. Her grandmother was a
childhood friend of the doomed Grand Duchess Anastasia, and the romantic yet
tragic story of how Babushka escaped Communist Russia with the aid of her
American husband will most certainly one day fuel one of Kim’s novels. Another
novel in the queue will involve her husband’s ancestor, the seventh-century
proto-Viking king of the Swedish colony in Russia.
For the time being, however, Kim
has plenty of work to do in creating her projected 8-book Arthurian series, The
Dragon’s Dove Chronicles, and other novels clamoring for attention. She has
been a published novelist since 1999, beginning with the original editions of
Dawnflight (Sonnet Books, Simon and Schuster) and Liberty (writing as
    Kimberly Iverson, HQN Books, Harlequin).

    Interview with Kim Headlee

    Why did you write
    this book?
I wrote The Challenge as a bridge between books in my series
The Dragon’s Dove Chronicles, which is historical at its core with elements of
action-adventure, military combat, political intrigue, fantasy, spirituality,
and of course romance. I have always been fascinated with the concept of demon
possession, and The Challenge is my experiment with this aspect of the fantasy
    genre.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
These days I’m gravitating toward Urban Fantasy with
spiritual undertones, such as the Bobby Dollar series by Tad Williams.
    Who is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own)?
Lessa from the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey, the first
kick-butt heroine I ever came across (decades ago, now) who retained her
femininity while being a strong, intelligent leader and warrior.
    What are you working
on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
I am working on Book 3 of The Dragon’s Dove Chronicles,
Raging Sea, and hope to have it available for sale by the end of the year.
    Please tell us about
    your latest book.
The gauntlet is thrown. One must
die. Refusal is not an option.
Arthur the High King of Breatein
has fallen captive of a longtime enemy, the Saxon warrior-princess Camilla, who
lusts to avenge the death of her betrothed at Gyan’s hands and will stop at
nothing, even the black arts, to achieve her goal. Because Gyan and Arthur have
grown estranged, she fears that Arthur may side with Camilla and make her his
    new queen.
    To meet Camilla’s challenge, Gyan
must face all her demons—public as well as private.
