Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?
I write in more than one subgenre of romance (paranormal, fantasy, scifi, steampunk, contemporary), but I only write romances.
How do you come up with ideas?
I usually see a scene in my head and then have to figure out who my characters are, what they are doing in that scene, and how they got to that point.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?
Outlining the story. If I can get that down then all the details fall into place easier.
When did you write your first book?
I started writing seriously after my second son was born, so about 14 years ago. Getting serious meant studying the publishing industry, taking writing workshops, and joining a writers group.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…
I write both fantasy and paranormal romances.
How do you come up with ideas?…
The ideas for my stories usually come while I’m in the car. I create a playlist for each book and listen to it as I drive. The music inspires the scenes which I then write when I get home.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?…
Plotting. I don’t write the story until it is outlined from beginning to end. Plotting allows me to make the story arc more intricate and weave in some foreshadowing which keeps the book interesting.
When did you write your first book?…
I wrote my first novel when I was 37 years old. A story popped into my head while I was driving to work and refused to leave until I finally wrote it down. That story led to another and my writing career was born.

    FUN

    Leather or lace? Leather
Black or red? Black. I always have some black on, even if it is just my wedding band which has white and black diamonds.
Satin sheets or smooth cotton? Cotton. Satin feels great on bare skin, but I get too warm sleeping on it.
Ocean or mountains? Mountains. I was born in the Blue Ridge Mountains and now live on the ocean. I long to live in the mountains again.
City life or country life? Country life
Party life or evening at home? Evening at home. I love spending time with my family.
Dogs or cats? Both. I love animals. In addition to dogs and cats, I’ve owned turtles, rats, and even a pet groundhog.

His Earth Maiden, new science fiction romance by NYT Bestseller Michelle M Pillow @MichellePillow #RLFblog #scifi #pnrMichelle M Pillow, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book. Sail along with space pirates in the new sci fi romance installment of the Space Lords series: His Earth Maiden by NYT and USAT Bestseller Michelle M Pillow.

His Earth Maiden by Michelle M Pillow

    Genre Science Fiction Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Former elite Federation soldier, now turned space pirate, Jackson Burke has done his best to turn his life around—for the better. He isn’t prepared when fate leaves a woman’s safety totally in his hands. Since heroes don’t leave a damsel in distress—and despite being outlaw pirates, the crew considers themselves the good guys—Jackson assumes responsibility for the beauty. It’s enough that his ship is held together by rust and sheer will, now he’s got to keep this good guy thing straight and not give into the urges the sassy female brings out in him. Raisa is everything a man could want and for some reason she seems to like him, rough edges and all, but he’s on the Federation’s wanted list and they aren’t known to back down.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…
Yes. Over the course of my career I’ve published in almost every romance genre: Science Fiction, Futuristic, Paranormal, Shifter, Vampire, Ghost, Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, Parallel Universe/Alternate Reality, Historical, and ChickLit. I also just released my third Cozy Paranormal Mystery.
How do you come up with ideas?…
Getting out and living life is one of the best ways to be inspired with ideas. They’re always floating around me waiting to be plucked. Some of the best ideas happen when you’re not looking for them. And, the experience of doing can inform the writing and make it stronger.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?…
With the actual craft? World building. It’s fun to take my research, experiences, and imagination and create something new out of it. If I know the world, then I can know who might live in that world, and what might happen to them. It’s the foundation for everything.
When did you write your first book?…
My first book was published in 2004, so over 15 years now. When I started I honestly thought I would only write historical romances. My first book published was a Regency ghost story romance (The Mists of Midnight, now re-titled Forget Me Not).
It was after that book released that the editors contacted me because they wanted authors to fill out their Sci Fi Romance list. I agreed but was convinced I was not a sci fi writer. I was a historical writer. I laugh at younger me now. I still love historicals and I use history to infuse my worlds, but I am most definitely a sci fi writer (among other genres). That first sci fi series, Dragon Lords, is part of one of my most popular series collections, the Qurilixen World. Space Lords: His Earth Maiden, my newest futuristic space pirate book, is part of that world.

Earth in 2093 by Edna Curry @Edna_Curry #RLFblog #RomanticSuspense #ScifiEdna Curry, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Earth in 2093 by Edna Curry

Genre a futuristic romantic suspense novel

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

The year is 2093 and everyone’s DNA is recorded in the World Database run by a now powerful United Nations. Crime is way down, since criminals are easily identified. Food is plentiful because water from the oceans is desalinated for irrigation of former deserts. Power is also plentiful and cheap, harnessed from the sun and wind.
But there are always a few people who resent governments of any kind and think they can do as they please. One is now raping and killing young women and Dave and Nell work to identify and stop him. But they find that easier said than done.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…
Yes. I’ve written contemporary romance, romantic suspense, historical romance and futuristic romance novels. I’ve also written a variety of short stories and non-fiction articles for national magazines.
How do you come up with ideas?…
I don’t know. They seem to just pop up and evolve in my mind. For example, this story was inspired by getting my own DNA test done and made me wonder how life would be different if everyone’s DNA was recorded in a World Database. And since most of my stories seem to include mystery, it seemed logical to include that in a story.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?…
Making up characters and then a story for them. The fun part is imagining what if? And thinking about the various ways the story could go. What would happen if this happened? Or how would it change if that happened instead? And so on and on.
When did you write your first book?…
Somewhere in the early 80s. Though I’d published short stories before that.

    Half-Broke Heart by Tarina Deaton

    Genre: Military/Contemporary Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Denise Reynolds is used to putting up a good front to show the world a strong, capable woman, but keeps a lot of things buried deep.
Chris Nolton is everything she learned the hard way to avoid — a sexy alpha-male who could charm her out of her pants and work his way into her heart. If history has taught her anything, it’s a deadly combination, but he manages to dig up emotions and longing she’s tried to bury for years.
He says all the right things and pushes her boundaries in all the right ways. Letting her guard down is difficult, especially since believing all the right things in the past led to unimaginable consequences.
Being content with her life may no longer be an option, but risking her heart may bring her to her knees.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…
Not right now. I love to read historical and paranormal romance, but I know I would nit-pick over all the tiny details if I tried to write in another genre. Plus, I’m still getting my feet under me as an author and I want to be strong in the genre I’m familiar with before I try to branch out into my own unchartered-territory.
How do you come up with ideas?…
It varies by the story. Sometimes I’ll hear a song or read an article that makes me wonder what led to that point. Then I start imagining the people and the scenes and I build from there. Sometimes, a full scene will come to me and it’s in the middle of the book and I have to work forward and back from that point. I don’t always immediately know where the story began or where it will end, but that’s one of the things I love about writing.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?…
Emotion. I love the stories that make me laugh and cry and pull at my heart-strings. That level of emotion and connection is always my goal when I’m writing.
When did you write your first book?…
In Mrs. Pamay’s fifth grade class we made cloth frogs, stuffed them with beans and we all had to write a story to go along with our frog. My frog’s name was Frogetta. She was a police officer and she stopped a bank robbery. That’s probably not what you were expecting. LOL. I published my first novel late 2016. Since then I’ve published three full-length novels and a novella in the same series as well as a novella in an anthology. There’s also a bonus novella only available to my newsletter subscribers.
