An Oath Taken: Supporting the Military – by Diana Cosby @KensingtonBooks #RLFblog #MilitaryBook

An Oath Taken, by Diana Cosby
    An Oath Taken
    by Diana Cosby

Diana Cosby combines her passion for writing and charity work
to help our troops with the release of An Oath Taken, the first book in The Oath
    Series.

Many of you know that I love volunteering
my time and energy in helping to make a positive difference in others’ lives. As
a military brat, a retired Navy Chief, a former military wife, and a mom of three
children who have served in the military—two in the Marines and one in the Army,
all who have served in Afghanistan—I understand the demands on members of the military
and the impact on their families.
Upon return from combat duty, many
Veterans face challenges including depression, PTSD, survivor’s guilt, suicidal
thoughts, brain injury, as well as physical issues incurred during deployment. I
wanted to do something that would make a difference and help these Veterans. So,
I will be donating 100% of my proceeds from the first week of sales of An Oath Taken (8 December
2014 – 14 December 2014) to veterans’ charities and causes that support military
    service members and their families.

    A Matching Donation

I shared my idea with my editor, and
then asked if she could notify me of my royalties after the first week of sales
for An Oath Taken. My editor’s response brought tears to my eyes. Kensington Publishing
Corp. would gladly do as I asked — and make a matching donation.
I’m awed by my publisher’s generosity, more so that I know the money raised will
go toward making a positive difference in military members’ lives.
It’s hard to deploy and leave ones
family, friends, and miss the holidays, more so for those who are placed in harm’s
way. But, it’s also a tremendous challenge for the family members left at home wondering
every single day if their loved one is alive. And when the family is reunited with
their soldier after a dangerous tour of duty, regular family difficulties may seem
overwhelming. Many military families need support to stay strong as their soldier
receives proper treatment, which is one of the functions of the military charities
    I support.
    Education, proper diagnosis, and treatment
are the key to good physical and mental health. I sincerely hope that my 100% donation
from my first week of sales of An Oath Taken, combined with my publishers matching
contribution, can help returning Veterans as they continue their on-going fight
in overcoming personal battles on the home front.
Thank you all for your time, and may
God bless our troops and their families!
    Sincerely,
    Diana Cosby

Character Interview: Tim Stone by Jennifer Young @JYnovelist #RLFblog #contemporary

    No Time Like Now
    No Time Like Now
Welcome to a Character Interview with Tim Stone from No Time
    Like Now by Jennifer Young.

    Interview with Tim Stone

    Tell us about yourself,
    please.
My name is Tim Stone and I’m a geologist. You think that sounds
geeky? Come and try it. We rockhounds are more macho than you think.
What is it that you want,
but cannot have? Authors call this the conflict of the story.
I want the girl I fell in love with some years back. Why can’t
I have her? Because she lied to me, about something I can never forgive her for.
    What’s your internal limitation?
Meaning, what is it about you that makes it so you cannot do what it is you need
    to do during this story?
I’m a scientist. That means I need facts. That’s all you can
judge things on — solid facts. The trouble is, emotional intelligence isn’t about
facts but about feeling. If I’m honest, I find myself a little bit insecure here.
Facts? Well, they’re just easier to deal with.
    What inner doubt causes
    you the most difficulty?
Apart from whether the known facts give me the complete story,
you mean? The big problem I have, the big doubt in my mind is: if I forgive her
will it all be okay? Or will she let me down again?
    What’s your external complication?
In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most.
I don’t fear anything. The thing I feared happened to me when
Megan McLeod betrayed me and I’m never going to let any woman treat me like that
    again. What’s left to fear?
    Tell us about your significant
other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Right at the moment, at the start of this story, it’s Holly.
    I’m a lecturer and she’s my PhD student. She’s funny, she’s clever, she’s sexy.
Of course we don’t have that spark — but you only get that once in your life. Still,
she’s the best I can hope for and that will have to do.
    What would that person
    say about you?
Umm… I think she hero-worships me, to be honest. She’d be quite
    complimentary. Probably.
    What is your family like?
Pretty conventional, really. My parents are both teachers, as
is my older sister, and we’re all into sciences. We lived in the Peak District of
Derbyshire so perhaps it’s no surprise I became a geologist — it gave me the chance
to study the rocks I love and to get out in the great outdoors. Explore a bit, see
what I can find. But on this occasion, of course, I found out a bit too much.
    What special skills do
    you rely on?
My scientific background and my analytical skills. I’m trained
to look at the facts, not the emotions. The facts give you all the information you
need. (Did I say that before?)
    If someone from your past
showed up, who would you NOT want it to be, and why?
Oh, now. That’s exactly what happened. It would be Megan McLeod,
the first woman — the only woman — I ever loved. The one who left me. But that would
be a spoiler. You need to read the book to find out what she did.
    Are you happy with the
way your story ended? Why or why not?
Happy? Oh, yes. Because we each learned something about the other
and I learned that facts aren’t the only thing you need to get the true picture.
    No Time Like Now
    No Time Like Now
    About the Author
Jennifer Young is an Edinburgh-based writer, editor and copywriter.
She is interested in a wide range of subjects and writing media, perhaps reflecting
the fact that she has both arts and science degrees. Jennifer has been writing fiction,
including romantic fiction, for a number of years with several short stories already
published. No Time Like Now is her second published novel; her first novel, Thank
You For The Music, is also set on the Balearic island of Majorca.
    Why did you choose this
    character for the interview today?
Tim is the hero and he fascinates me. He’s very, very clever
but lacks emotional intelligence; he can be kind to those he cares for but if they
hurt him he can turn very tough. For someone so intelligent he has a lot to learn.
    When writing the book,
what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
That he’s deeply conventional when it comes to love. At the beginning
he thinks that love is transient but he has to come to terms with the fact that
his first love, Megan, is his real love — and though he blames her for the breakup
he must acknowledge that he is also deeply at fault. He has to learn that facts
alone don’t tell you the whole story.
    Are any sequels planned
    for this book?
No; it’s definitely a happy ever after ending rather than a happy
for now. But I will be writing more romantic suspense in the future — I really enjoy
    the genre.
    What genre(s) would you
like to write that you haven’t tried yet?
I’ve tried most genres in my time and I like most of them, although
some of them are just too much for me — I don’t have the twisted mind you need to
write crime, for example. I would like to write literary fiction, just to be able
to explore certain themes a little more deeply. And I’d love to write historical
fiction but I’m afraid i’m just too lazy to do the research.
    What would your readers
be surprised to learn about you?
I’ve just completed a Masters degree in Earth science and I write
articles on geoscience for a serious science website. And I’m a travel writer too.
    Why should readers who
haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
Wonderful location, red-blooded hero, feisty heroine, old wounds
still to heal. And some dramatic weather.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your readers?
If you read a book and you like it, please review it. Not just
one of mine. If it’s a good book, get the word out there.

5 Easy Questions: Denise Rossetti author of Mine to Keep @deniserossetti #RLFblog #SFR

Mine to Keep by Denise Rossetti
    Mine to Keep
    by Denise Rossetti
Denise Rossetti author of Mine to Keep answers five easy questions
to help readers get to know them better.

    Author Bio

    When Denise
Rossetti was very small, she had an aunt who would tell her the most wonderful fairy
tales all original. She grew up, as little girls do, but the magic of story still
dazzles and enthralls her. In person, she’s small and noisy and tends to wave her
hands around a lot, which can be unfortunate if the tale she’s telling happens to
    have explosions in it!
    Reviewers describe
Denise’s books as “darkly intense, warmly romantic, and blazingly erotic”.
She’s a proud recipient of the Australian Romance Readers Association award for
Best Erotic Romance and a two time winner of the Passionate Plume award from Romance
    Writers of America.
    What’s your favorite down-home
    family style meal?
    Anything my
husband cooks. He does all the cooking (and shopping) – and no, you can’t have him.
Heh, heh. The poor man learned how to cook in self-defense not long after we were
married and I’ve been grateful ever since. He does a fabulous lamb roast, the darling.
    What is your go-to meal
    when you dine out?
    Anything I
can’t cook myself – which leaves the field wide open! I have such a shocking sweet
tooth that I generally turn the menu over and start with the desserts. Seems only
    sensible to me!
    Describe the perfect vacation.
    I love learning
cool new things. My idea of heaven is to be somewhere that’s not only beautiful,
but interesting, with tour guides telling me fascinating stuff, making everything
come alive. Wonderful experiences every single day.
    What are your hobbies?
    Well, reading’s
    a no-brainer. I’m also a knitter, have been since I was a kid. I’m currently obsessed
with knitting socks and also with learning maths. I’m much better at one than the
    other – guess which!
If the hero of your latest
book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
    Would I Lie
To You? (Eurythmics) Oh yeah, Peter totally would!

He’s all puppy charm, but he smiles like a wolf. Trust him? She’d
have to be out of her mind.
    All Sandy wanted
was some R&R in Sydney before joining the Earth Ship Siren as head of Military
Police. What she gets is a night of mystery and pleasure with a man so wickedly
fascinating he can’t possibly be law-abiding.
    For professional
con man Peter Stanton, Master Sergeant Alanna Sanderson, with her kick-ass body
and cool blue eyes, is the most fun he’s ever had. Eight months later, on the Siren,
he gets to meet her again, but now he’s Prisoner 141, and they’re out among the
stars, half way to the penal colony on Solitaire.
    When a micrometeroid
shower strikes the convoy, Sandy and Prisoner 141 are stranded on a stricken ship.
Will he pull off the ultimate confidence trick and sacrifice Sandy for his freedom?
    If only she
could command her heart as easily as she wields her stun gun, because when he betrays
her, as he surely must, she’s going to have to kill him.

5 Easy Questions: Kayelle Allen author of A Romance for Christmas #RLFblog #HolidayRomance

A Romance for Christmas by Kayelle Allen
    A Romance for Christmas
    by Kayelle Allen
Kayelle Allen, author of A Romance for Christmas answers five
easy questions to help readers get to know her better. Kayelle is a best-selling, multi-published, award-winning
author. Her unstoppable heroes and heroines include contemporary every day folk,
role-playing immortal gamers, futuristic covert agents, and warriors who purr.
    Who is your “book
boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
I have a real yen for Roarke, from JD Robb’s In Death series.
But don’t let Lt. Eve Dallas know. *wink*
    What’s your favorite hashtag
    to watch on Twitter?
I have more than one. I (try to) keep up with #Loki and #Thranduil,
    and also #MFRWauthor #amreading and #ASMSG. I built a Paper.li newsletter that combines
the first two. Loki’s Army Recruiters http://paper.li/kayelleallen/1383533309
    What are your hobbies?
I’ve been collecting the In Death series by JD Robb (39 as of
this date), and the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. Hmm… I must have
a thing for authors with J names and four-letter last names. Anyway, I challenged
myself to find these books secoond hand rather than new. So I visit used book stores,
Goodwill stores, and places like Second and Charles. I keep a list and cross them
off as I go. Once I have all the books, it’s only a matter of keeping up. And I’m
scouting for new and prolific authors to watch. Suggestions welcome.
    What kinds of things do
you read when you’re researching a new book?
    I just bought two Astonomy
magazines which I will read cover to cover. I also pick up Popular Science, Popular
Mechanics, and similar magazines. They help me keep up with current technology.
When you write science fiction you have to know what’s new. Scifi is often an extrapolation
built on the now. If we have this, what will it be used to do? The book I’m talking
about this time is contemporary — not scifi, but my primary writing is science
    fiction romance.
If the hero of your latest
book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
The theme from Cops! “Bad boys, bad boys, what you gonna
do? What you gonna do when they come for you?” Scott Gregori is one of his
    hometown’s finest boys in blue.

    About the Book
