Interview with Emerald, author of If… Then @Emerald_theGLD #RLFblog #EroticRomance
If … Then About the Book
Title If…Then: a collection of erotic romance storiesGenre Erotic RomaneAuthor EmeraldBook heat level (based on movie ratings): RInterview with Emerald
Why did you write this
book?Well, since it is a short story collection, this book was written
in a number of different segments propelled by varying motivations. But the reason
I took it upon myself to collect it into a single work and pen the original stories
I wanted to include is because I recognized that certain of my stories held an energy
or tone or underlying evolution—clearly this is something I find a bit difficult
to articulate and definitely consider intangible!—and I wanted to see them all collected
in one volume that I felt represented the deepest asipiration I feel in writing
erotic fiction. As it turned out, the collection I submitted was divided into
two volumes (more on this in answer to a later question), so to me, If… Then represents
what I described above in the context of the romantically-oriented stories—those
that focus on a committed relationship of conscious intention between the characters
(as distinct from the erotica ones in which the sexual connection is the foremost
focus, regardless of the relational intent beyond that). What is your favorite
genre to read?As far as romance, I’ve often enjoyed historicals—such fascinating
detail, and it seems so fun to read about a distinctly different time period. Overall,
though, I tend to read a lot of nonfiction. In particular, in recent years I’ve
gravitated toward books on consciousness and spirituality by authors like A. H.
Almaas, Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, etc. What is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own characters)?Jeez. What a tough question. It strikes me as the kind I’ll remember
the perfect answer to after I’ve already given one off the top of my head, lol.
But I’m going to go with Albus Dumbledore, as he comes closest of any character
I’ve read to embodying and exhibiting the level of consciousness and awakeness to
which I myself aspire.Do you enjoy films and/or
TV shows? Which are your favorites?I almost never watch TV (unless the Yankees are playing), and
while watching movies hasn’t been something I’ve done a lot of either, I do have
a few favorites. First is Dangerous Beauty, which is a film adaptation of a biography
of sixteenth-century Venetian courtesan Veronica Franco titled The Honest Courtesan,
by Margaret Rosenthal. I also love The Dark Knight, Shakespeare in Love, and A League
of Their Own. And despite my qualification about television, my partner did introduce
me to the series Firefly long after it had been discontinued, and I did enjoy watching
that. :)What are you working on
at the moment, and what are we likely to see from you in the coming months? While I’m still largely working in the short form (short stories)
at this time, I do have a story in progress that seems to have made it known that
it is going to be longer—perhaps even a novel. Given that it’s been in progress
for literally years, though, I do not have a sense of when it might actually be
completed!I have a short story coming out in a couple months in Cleis Press’s
Best Erotic Romance 2015 anthology, and next summer I’ll have a novella-length (11,000
words) contribution in a Sweetmeats Press anthology on sex and sports titled The
Athletic Aesthetic. (My story, “Doubleheader,” is about baseball, of course.
;))Please tell us about your
latest book. If… Then is an erotic romance short story collection that was
originally submitted as part of a larger manuscript. I submitted a short story collection
to the publisher (1001 Nights Press), and they came back and suggested splitting
the manuscript into two books—one with the erotic romance stories and one with the
erotica stories. If… Then is the erotic romance one, and it contains ten stories
(eight previously published and two new). The stories cover a range of characters and themes and include
some LGBT and BDSM content. The first and last stories in the book, “If…”
and “…Then,” respectively, obviously make up the title and are related
to each other—essentially, “…Then” is a sequel to “If….” Both
were previously published in Cleis Press erotic romance anthologies edited by Rachel
Kramer Bussel.I feel particularly close to one of the original stories in the
book, “Shattered Angels,” as it was the most recent one I finished, and
I wrote some of it during my solo writing trip to Niagara Falls almost two years
ago. The story is partially set in Niagara Falls, and while it was the last story
in the book to be finished, I actually started it and drafted it in a different
form (before I was writing erotic fiction) almost a decade ago. So it’s been through
a number of iterations and feels particularly symbolic of the culmination of If…
Then as my first single-author short story collection. All of the stories mean something particular to me, though, which
is why I included them in the collection. In these tales of sizzling erotic romance, deep affection and
the warmth of familiarity underlie the erotic connection between longtime lovers.
“The Plant on the Mantel” explores the unexpected implications of a generations-past
affair on a young married couple. “Honey Changes Everything” finds Kim
wondering how to lead her husband out of his state of despair upon losing his job;
inspiration comes when breakfast in bed serves up more than just pancakes. And “If…”
and “…Then” examine what happens when Valerie finds herself intensely
attracted to someone other than her boyfriend—and what he does when he finds out. With two original stories (“Soft and Gray” and “Shattered
Angels”) joining the eight previously published tales in this collection, If…Then
is a testament to the scorching eroticism that can so seamlessly subsist with long-term
romance.Buy This Book

5 Easy Questions MJ Schiller author of Leap into the Knight @mjschiller #RLFblog #ScifiRom
Leap into the Knight 5 Easy Questions is an interview is designed to be quick, easy,
and fun. Today’s guest is MJ Schiller. What is your go-to meal to order when you dine out? Your favorite
“I know it will hit the spot” item.Ha! Love this! My kids
always make fun of me because I will always order chicken quesadillas if they are
on the menu. What were you like when you were in school?Yikes! I was the nerdy
bookworm up until high school. Then I became a “popular” girl because
hung out with some people high in social status. Someone once told me they expected
me to be a snob and were surprised I was nice. They based this assumption on a particular
jacket I wore with what they believed to be a designer name on the lining. I then
informed them that I bought that jacket saving money I earned mowing lawns and vacuuming
houses and it wasn’t a major designer name, just a Target brand name. It
was one sweet jacket though. Corduroy, with patches on the elbows…Would you rather stay inside and watch snow falling, or get
out in it and build a snowman?Ooh! Stay inside! Stay
inside and make everyone else hot chocolate. I do occasionally like playing in the
snow, but it’s like an every five year kind of thing. ;)What is your favorite quote?Winston Churchill~ “Never,
never, never give up.” Or “You are unrepeatable. There is a magic about
you that is all your own…” –D.M. DellingerOr “All right, they’re
on our left, they’re on our right, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us…they
can’t get away this time.” –Louis B. “Chesty” Puller, Lt. Gen., USMCJust one more, I swear:
“The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone
said to themselves, ‘You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but
I’m just not close enough to get the job done.'” I’m a bit twisted. If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what
would be a perfect ringtone for him?“Oh, What A Night”

Character Interview Duncan from Highlander of Mine by Red L Jameson @LB_Red_Author #RLFblog #PNR
Highlander of Mine This character interview is with Duncan MacKay from the book
Highlander of Mine, a time travel romance by Red L Jameson.About the Book
Title Highlander of MineGenre Time-Travel RomanceAuthor Red L JamesonBook heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13 almost RBook Two of the Glimpse Time Travel SeriesTrickster muse sisters, Clio and Erato, kidnap genealogist Fleur
Anpao and dump her in the seventeenth century. Even though Fleur has never been
to Scotland, let alone the Highlands, and feels like a modern-day fish out of an
ancient loch, the muses have a plan. What it is remains to be ambiguous—they are
mischievous muses, after all, and can’t just tell her. Though the logical genealogist
wants nothing more than to return home, there’s something about this time and rough
land that feels somehow familiar. And there’s something about Duncan MacKay—so strong,
so brutally handsome, and so distracting. As a mercenary for long years, Duncan has seen many things. But
never in his life has he seen the likes of Fleur: more beautiful than any woman
he could have imagined. It doesn’t matter she insists she’s from another time, or
that she’s too far out of reach for a common man like him. He’s drawn to her intelligence
and wicked sense of humor. However, Cromwell’s reign threatens anarchy, clan rivalries
reach a peak, and a laird’s younger brother vies for her attention. He can hardly
protect her from his county’s bedlam, let alone convince her he’s the better man.
And if he does, will the bonny time traveler stay with him?Making matters worse, a god wreaks havoc, or has fun as he calls
it, with Clio and Erato’s mortals. The two firecracker time stewards might have
to set down their margaritas for this glimpse!Buy This Book

Tell us about yourself, please.Ach, I never ken what to say for these kinds of questions. Not
much ’bout me, really. Was born and raised in Durness, Scotland. That’s the Highlands
for all those who don’ ken. At the age of seven and ten joined the army and was
a soldier for the rest of my life, save when Fleur Anpao and I met. What is it that you want, but cannot have? Authors call this
the conflict of the story. My brothers. The fact is, as strange as this might sound, I’m
more than three hundred years old now. My brothers were prisoners of war when Cromwell
ravaged Scotland. I’ve been trying to find them since. But in walked this wee bonny
lass, my Fleur, and so much has changed since I met her. I was tellin’ ye ’bout
her in the question ye asked earlier. What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty? We need to have a few pints before I answer that.Tell us about your significant other, that person who makes
living worthwhile.Oh, my Fleur. I wax poetic ’bout her. Me, can ye believe that?
A poet. All because o’ her. She’s the most bonny, er, beautiful women I’ve ever
seen. Her hair in the shade is the blackest black, like a raven. But in full sun
or when a firelight glimmers onto her hair, it shines back almost red. Not any kind
o’ red, ye ken. A cinnamon red. Ach, and the way she smells . . . Lord, I haven’
even told ye the best part about my Fleur. ‘Tis her heart, it is. She’s the strongest,
bravest lass—nay, person. And her mind! Did I tell ye she happens to be brilliant?
Oh, my Fleur, I’m not too sure what good or descent thing I ever did in this life
to have met a woman like her. But I’m damned grateful I did encounter her. What would that person say about you?(Duncan laughs) Don’ rightly ken. She tells me she loves my words,
and (he quietly chuckles again) my arms. She tells me she loves my mind too. But
she tells me she loves my heart most of all. Aren’t I the luckiest son o’ a bitch
ye ever kenned? Oh, excuse my language. What is your family like?We laughed a lot. I had four younger brothers. Douglas passed
while fighting against Cromwell’s New Order Army. But my brothers, they made life
worth living while growing up. My step-da, their father, wasn’ much of a da, if
ye ken my meanin’. So we had each other. And our ma. My ma was a real strong woman
too. A healer, she was. She’d have been a physician had she been born in this time.
Aye, my family loved much, laughed as often as we could too.Are you happy with the way your story ended? Why or why not?Happy, aye. Very happy. But . . . I need to find my brothers
still. I’ll continue lookin’ for ’em. I will.About the Writer
You have the length of a tweet (140 characters) to describe
yourself as a writer. Let’s see what you can do.Two names. One author. Hard to keep
both straight. Romance and myth. Paranormal and history. I mix them all up until
I create a HEA.Why did you choose to write about this character?Although Duncan’s a quiet man, he was yelling at me to write
his story. Was there anything you discovered about this character that was
a surprise to you?He made me cry with his sweetness that he covers up, but it’s
there. When you wrote about this character, what made you the most
happy? What made you the most sad? When Duncan started to fall in love with Fleur, I was most happy.
When Duncan went through turmoil, I was most sad.Why do you write?I have to. I’m scared I’d never brush my hair and talk to myself
all the time if I didn’t.What do you want to write next?I am working on the edits of the third Glimpse Time-Travel Series.
Then will start a Regency series. What other character from this book do you want to write about?
Care to tell us why?Oh, I do write about many of the characters from this book. The
Glimpse Time-Travel Series is such fun to see all my characters come back from time
to time. Are any sequels planned for this book?Yeppers. Cowboy of Mine is next.Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?I love hearing from my readers! Please visit me and email!Author Bio

Tell us about yourself, please.Well, I’m thirty-one,
an only child, have no clue who my dad is, and I’m a slave. That’s what the law
says anyway. Thing is, though, I refuse to be one. I’m a person, same as you. Doesn’t
matter I’m a different species. I still have a brain, intelligence, and dreams.
Just like humans. I damn well never gave my permission to humanity to make me a
slave. What is it that you want, but cannot have? Authors
call this the conflict of the story. To be free and make
my own choices. I can’t have it because I’m a slave, and the only way for my species
to not be a slave is to be dead. It’d break my mom’s heart if I died, though when
my story opens I’m tired of life and don’t want any part of it.Then there’s the whole
bit with Fae pushing at me and me not being ready to let go of my dead lover. She’s
so different from him, and doesn’t always see me as a person. When she started uncovering
things that prove this planet once belonged to my people, someone in the expedition
started threatening her. Me being the idiot I am I did the only thing I knew how
to do: sacrifice my choices to save her. What’s your internal limitation? Meaning, what
is it about you that makes it so you cannot do what it is you need to do during
this story?I’m invisible to most
people. Then there are a handful who I wish didn’t see me. See, I’m viewed as less-than.
Something for others to play with, with no regard for my feelings and needs. So
I’m a bit of a recluse, to keep people from seeing me and wanting things from me
I have no intention of giving them. I know I need to stand up for myself, but that
doesn’t mean it’s easy.I’m also not used to
standing on my own. For the last twenty years I hid behind the man who owned me.
He was also my lover. He wouldn’t let anyone mistreat or abuse me, and he loved
me with all his heart and soul. I was a person to him, the person who held his heart.
Then he died protecting me. I don’t like being alone, but I also don’t want people
around me. I think you humans call that being stuck between a rock and a hard place.I don’t trust easily,
because humans see me as a thing to possess. The men of my species are both feared
and lusted after. By everyone. I chose of my own free will to sleep with a human
male, but most of us don’t have any choice at all about whether we warm a human’s
bed. What’s your external complication? In the story
world your author created, explain what it is you fear most.Ooh, lady. You go deep
here. What I fear most? Being alone. See, I know what it is to be loved to the point
of sacrifice. And I won’t settle for anything less. But to do that I have to let
people get close to me. Which I’m not good at, as evidenced by the many ways I push
Fae away from me and try to lock her out of my heart. The one time I let someone
all the way into my heart, I lost him. With him I was never alone, even when it
was just the two of us.I also fear being used.
It steals your heart and soul one piece at a time. The expedition members see me
as dangerous. They don’t care I have skills they need. They try to put me into their
box of what my species is supposed to be: free labor. Except I have a skill and
a trade they need. You can probably guess
at this point what I do in the story. I isolate myself and let myself be used. To
keep my loved ones safe. Because they’re worth it. Love means nothing without sacrifice.Tell us about your significant other, that person
who makes living worthwhile.Ah, Fae. She’s everything
light and beautiful in my world. She’s an archaeologist and one of the few who think
I should be a free man. It’s a beautiful thing. When she looks at me I feel real,
more than property. Like I matter. I’m not invisible to her, nor is she afraid of
me.What would that person say about you? That I’m stubborn, don’t
know when to keep my mouth shut, and that I complete her.Are you happy with the way your story ended?
Why or why not?I totally am! I got
the girl, found the planet my people once called home, met my dad, learned to stand
up for myself. And the story’s not over. Finding our home is the first chapter.
Getting it back is the real struggle.About the Writer
You have the length of a tweet (140 characters)
to describe yourself as a writer. Let’s see what you can do.I write romance for
the hero lover. Why did you choose to write about this character?I didn’t! He chose me
then wouldn’t leave me alone. I dreamed him one night and the very next day dove
into his story. I haven’t left it since. Was there anything you discovered about this
character that was a surprise to you?Yes. He’s bi. I suspected
it when I was working on the opening chapters, but it still surprised me when he
confirmed it and showed me how much he loved Wayan Mesu. Why do you write?I can’t not write. Stringing
words together is as important to me as oxygen. I went through a dry spell a few
years ago, because of circumstances in my life, and it was awful. The not being
able to write made everything so much worse. What do you want to write next?I’m finishing up the
first draft of A’yen’s Legacy #4, Heart of Winter. After that I have edits on book
three. After that’s done I’m diving into A’yen’s Legacy #6, Essence of Loyalty. Are any sequels planned for this book? Not just planned. Written.
Book two, The King’s Mistress, releases January 20, 2015. Book three, To Save A
Life, will be out in the spring. Four and five are written, and I’m brewing on six,
seven, and eight.Author Bio
