Bucket list of Lionel Hawkes, from The Devil's Saturnalia by Alexa Piper @ProwlingPiper #RLFblog #MMRomanceIn wintry Scotland, everyone’s favorite necromancer and police consultant, Lionel, finds a case to solve, except the investigation doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Lucifer, the Devil, has plans to enjoy the holiday season with his necromantic boyfriend in Alexa Piper’s latest installment of the Hellbound series.

Let’s meet Lionel from The Devil’s Saturnalia. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Devil’s Saturnalia.

The Devil’s Saturnalia by Alexa Piper

Genre MM Romance, MM urban fantasy romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

While in Scotland for Lionel’s magic training with Hades, a murder case compels the Devil and his necromancer to stick around a little longer. Lionel, who still cannot control his demigod magic properly, doesn’t mind a murder investigation, because that is something a necromantic police consultant like himself knows how to handle.

Except, the investigation doesn’t go at all as Lionel thought it would. And when he decides he wants to open up to Lucifer, finally, that doesn’t go exactly as Lionel had feared either, but some surprises are good surprises, especially when Saturnalia is just around the corner.

Lucifer is delighted. He has his boyfriend, who finally opens up, and his boyfriend is all his, at least through the holidays. That much attention is exactly what Lucifer loves, and the holiday season would be entirely perfect — if it weren’t for an old enemy who is out for vengeance.

When someone dies, we say they “kicked the bucket.” Therefore, a list of things that a person wants to accomplish, places to go, situations to experience, and so on have become known as a “Bucket List.”

    Age: twenty-five.

    Gender: male

Birthplace: Millsbury Central, at least that what it says on my birth certificate.

    Profession: necromantic police consultant

Ethnicity: I have Greek heritage. Minoan, actually.

Species (for scifi/fantasy characters): I do have immortal in my parentage, so let’s say half-human.

Please provide a physical description of yourself.

Uhm, I’m pretty average. Light brown eyes, reddish-brown hair. I like wearing black, and not just because I’m a necromancer. The color suits me.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

As I said, I’m a necromancer, which means I’m a rare type of magic user. I work as a police consultant. I have a boyfriend, who happens to be the Devil. It was his idea that I talk to you today. Interviews aren’t really my thing, you know.

Who is the significant other in your life?

    Lucifer, the Devil.

If you haven’t made a bucket list before, perhaps now would be a good time. Who knows? It might inspire another book. While you’re at it, how about telling us about some of your other favorite things? Here are the questions.

    What is your birth order?

I… I’m not sure. I don’t think I have any siblings. I grew up in an orphanage, you know.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

I remember there was an old doll I liked for a long time. I gave it away when this new kid came in. She was crying and crying, and so I gave her the doll. I guess it helped, because she never let it out of her sight and took it with her when she was adopted.

Describe your favorite food and how it’s prepared.

I really like whatever Metatron gets up to in the kitchen, but her strawberry tarts are to-die-for. I have no idea how she makes them, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s magic involved.

Tell us about your best friend.

I guess… I get along well with Christine Rice. She’s my supervisor at the police station, but I do consider her a friend.

What are two places you would like to visit before you die, and why?

I never thought about that. In terms of magical history, there are lots of interesting places in Europe that I’d like to see, but I don’t exactly have a list. But maybe I’d start with Prague. The Chymical Street there is supposed to be one of the first, and I’d like to see it. From what I know, some of the stores there have been run continuously for several hundred years.

Where is a place you would never like to return, and why?

I could name a few crime scenes. One was a basement, and I was there for a while. Not really very long. I’d be fine going back, you know, I just don’t want to.

Who is someone you would like to meet, and why?

I don’t follow celebrities, but with the Devil being my boyfriend, there are a few gods I’d like to meet. I’ve been hearing a lot of funny stories about Loki and his misadventures, so maybe him.

Who is someone you would like to avoid, and why?

I don’t like talking to the department shrink, Dr. Lesker, but he keeps finding me somehow, and I think my boyfriend and Dr. Lesker are plotting to make me go to therapy.

If you could time travel to any date, what would it be, and what would you do there?

Hmm. I know that one! I’m not sure how long ago that would have been, but I would just want to see that burning river in the underworld from which my Lucifer was born. I think that would be so cool. Oh, or better yet, I’d time travel to wherever I could sit down with Bram Stoker, and I’d ask him to sign a copy of Dracula for Lucy.

    Meet Alexa Piper

Why did you choose this character for the interview today?

In case you hadn’t noticed, around here, it’s the Devil who decides things. Lucy told Lionel it was his time to get interviewed.

When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?

I didn’t know a lot about Lionel at first. Basically, his entire backstory, his parentage, all of that was a surprise.

Why should readers who haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?

It turns into a really sweet love story, even if it doesn’t look like that from the start. Oh, and it’s pretty steamy.

Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?

    Lucy and Nelly will return!

    Ethnicity: chthonic.

Species (for scifi/fantasy characters): god, although humans prefer immortal.

Bucket list for the mysterious dark hero from The Devil's Saturnalia @ProwlingPiper #RLFblog #MMRomance

Please provide a physical description of yourself.

Well, I’m the Devil, which means I’m handsome. Among all my many attributes, I’ve come to like my hair best. See how floofy it is? Among all the gods, I have the best hair.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

    Uhm. I’m… the Devil?

Who is the significant other in your life?

That would be Nelly, my necromancer, although he is actually my boyfriend. He is stubborn, but I like that about him. He’s also smart–you know how a lot of humans aren’t smart? Nelly is nothing like that. He’s also powerful, and I’ve had him in a few positions that I probably shouldn’t describe in too much detail. He looked good in all of them.

If you haven’t made a bucket list before, perhaps now would be a good time. Who knows? It might inspire another book. While you’re at it, how about telling us about some of your other favorite things? Here are the questions.

    What is your birth order?

Well, I’m… the Devil, you know. There’s just me. And for all the forensic technicians reading this, no, I really do not have any hot siblings.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

I am the Devil, and I was never a child. Pfft. I did like setting things on fire when I was younger though, but that was a hobby at most.

Describe your favorite food and how it’s prepared.

I suppose you could call it… necromancer’s tears. What you do is, you get your necromancer and tie him to your bed. You touch him all over, and when he feels all slick under your hands, you just lick, lick, lick. You’ll have to get your own necromancer though, because I’m not sharing mine.

Tell us about your best friend.

That would be my housekeeper, Metatron, the angel who cares. She likes everything pastel and hot pink, gory anime, and sushi. And clean floors, of course.

What are two places you would like to visit before you die, and why?

What do you mean, die? Did you miss the part where I said I was the Devil? There is a reason why humans call gods immortal, you know.

Where is a place you would never like to return, and why?

The necromancer office in the Brunswick PD murder unit. It’s where my boyfriend’s trainee “necromancer” is, and that man wants to touch what is mine. Also, there are no windows in that office.

Who is someone you would like to meet, and why?

Bram Stoker. I never got the chance, way back when. I’d ask him to get a few books signed for me.

Who is someone you would like to avoid, and why?

Not really anyone. I like people. I’d especially like to meet Marc Deacon for a snorkeling trip in shark infested waters.

If you could time travel to any date, what would it be, and what would you do there?

The Spring Equinox twenty-five years ago. I’d make sure a certain orphan ended up in a Scottish castle rather than an orphanage.

    Meet Alexa Piper

Why did you choose this character for the interview today?

Has he mentioned he’s the Devil? He made me do it.

When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?

He is a softie for his boyfriend. And he can be very vulnerable too.

Are any sequels planned for this book?

As a matter of fact, the series consists of six books with one additional holiday novella, A Devilish Saturnalia, which will be available on December 23.

What genre(s) would you like to write that you haven’t tried yet?

    Sci-fi romance!

Life with Cancer is a journey onward – Lloyd A Meeker author of The Companion @LloydAMeeker #RLFblog #GayRomance #CancerAwareness

Life with Cancer is a journey onward - Lloyd A Meeker author of The Companion @LloydAMeeker #RLFblog #GayRomance #CancerAwarenessOver the last year I’ve re-learned that my experience with cancer is a journey, and I’m not necessarily finished when I think I am. To honor this stage of my life, I now often sign correspondence with the closing, “Onward”. Onward is one directive I know to be relevant about my life journey. Plans, not so much. This is an update on my journey, both figurative and literal.
During Cancer Awareness Week in 2019, I shared how prostate cancer saved my life — that during pre-op screening I learned I first needed a quadruple bypass. Unexpected Detour! I’d had no symptoms, never been seriously overweight and had always kept a basic level of fitness, but my heart’s arteries were 98% blocked. So we took care of that, and then I had the prostate surgery. The cancer in the prostate was a little outside the margins, but there was nothing in the lymph glands they removed. Good news. So, onward.
Last summer, my PSA number began to climb, and living without a prostate I understood it was a red flag I couldn’t ignore, much as I wanted to. Not what I’d planned on. Suddenly, both my husband Bob and I were dealing with unexpected health challenges.
In one of those intimate, tender, deep, calm, no-holds-barred conversations partners can have, we decided this was a sign. It was time to change our lives and live a different way. We decided to sell our house in south Florida, and rent for a year as we prepared to move to Europe. I know we’re not supposed to talk politics here, but I’d be lying to you if I omitted that one of the factors in our decision was the cultural and legal deterioration for men like me and Bob in the US, and especially in Florida. One of the factors, not the only.
So Bob got his pacemaker, and I scheduled hormone therapy and 34 radiation sessions. I resolved to start taking mandolin lessons again, as I realized making music was an important but neglected part of how I want to live. I hope to one day play and sing with others in a jam. Onward!
Our house sold quickly in the hot market, and ensconced in our Fort Lauderdale rental apartment we set about preparing for an open-ended European adventure. The preparation took more time than I expected – so many moving parts. After research, we set our sights on a French long-stay visa good for a year and renewable for a second. Our plan was to rent for relatively short (3 months or so) periods in Spain and various spots in France, getting a feel for places in those countries so when our visa was getting close to ending, we could decide whether we wanted to renew, apply for permanent residence, or return to the US. We even created a FB page: Two Old Men Move to Europe.
On October 8th, just a couple of weeks ago, it happened. We flew to Paris and began our grand, silver-haired adventure/experiment. We’re now in Málaga, Spain, where we’ll stay until the end of January. Then it’s back to France for the rest of the year.
In the middle of all this, in March I found an agent who was ready to go to bat for me and my work. Even as I write, the amazing Amy Collins of Talcott Notch Agency is flogging my latest project, The Garden Witch. Onward, to who knows where?
Living post-cancer is as much part of the journey as diagnosis and treatment. Same journey, different country, so to speak. While it also wasn’t the deciding factor, my cancer warning signs certainly contributed to our decision to translate our health/age/bucket list journeys into a geographical one. There’s no time to waste — adventure awaits!
    Onward…

What Rory eats for dinner. Character interview from Magic and Home by Alexa Piper @ProwlingPiper #RLFblog #MMRomanceAfter having met his monster mate and discovering he can use magic, Rory finds himself on Aër, the monster world, in this second installment of Alexa Piper’s Monster Apocalypse series. Rory discovers that he likes that strange world, but danger follows, and the shadow of unusual magic he wields looms large.

Alexa, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Magic & Home by Alexa Piper

    Genre mm post-apocalyptic monster romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Over the past two years, Rory has learned that other people aren’t the best of company, that the guilt of causing the Apocalypse is a heavy burden, and that monsters only see him as a meal. Until Rory met Inkiri, who sees Rory as his mate.

Now, Rory has to navigate what it means to be with someone who not only isn’t human but who also is from another world altogether… and since Rory finds himself in that otherworld all of a sudden, he has to adapt fast. Inkiri definitely has no intention of slowing down in his quest to make his human mate happy.

While Rory is beginning to wrap his head around liking the new place and the new customs, he can’t relax into a peaceful happily ever after because whatever connection Rory has to the magic that unleashed the Apocalypse, people want that, meaning they want him. Where Rory and his newfound family ran to may not have been far enough to escape their pursuers’ clutches.

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

    Hi, I’m Rory, and I’m twenty-three.

    What is your favorite meal?

Mmh. I’m not sure what it’s called. Inkiri–that’s my not-quite-human mate, took me to his world the other day, and they have this stuff, which is like a gel. A little like aloe I guess, but it tastes flowery and a little spicy. I really liked it, but I never asked what it was called. There is lots of interesting food on Aër, the monster world. Also some stuff that I don’t care for.

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

Massacre buns. They are actually called massa buns, and they are vile. They’re super oily and taste like cilantro and raisins, just ugh. Cannot recommend.

Tell us about a meal or food that says “home” to you.

It’s not any specific food, but sometimes when I get to watch people cook and they enjoy it, I totally get nostalgic vibes that take me back to my childhood and the really good au pairs. Oh, I have to mention Nokim’s banana bread of course. Nokim is part of our monster and human found family unit, and sometimes what he cooks up is strange, but it’s usually tasty.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

Yeah… after the massacre bun incident, I’m really careful now. I suppose if I didn’t know it at all, Inkiri would taste it first to check if it’s something I’d like. He’s all caring like that, you know.

What is the worst meal you’ve ever eaten?

    Massacre. Bun.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

Breakfast is okay. I skip it sometimes, but not usually, because it gets Inkiri upset and all worried about me.

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

I don’t, but you know what? Inkiri always carries some nuts on him. It’s for the birds though! He’s a real bird whisperer.

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

I like coffee, and living in the Apocalypse really makes you appreciate stuff like that. I savor it more than I did before.

Who are your favorite people to share meals with?

My guys. They are the best. I know we aren’t related and we couldn’t be more different what with them having horns, but they’re family.

What Amory eats for dinner, from Moonlight Cherries by Alexa Piper @ProwlingPiper #RLFblog #MMRomance

What Soyer eats for dinner, from Moonlight Cherries by Alexa Piper @ProwlingPiper #RLFblog #MMRomanceAfter witnessing a murder on the subway, Amory is drawn into a world of magic and myth in Alexa Piper’s new dark urban fantasy MM romance novel, Moonlight Cherries.

Alexa, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Moonlight Cherries by Alexa Piper

    Genre dark MM urban fantasy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

“I couldn’t change that I was…attracted to a guy I’d watched getting murdered on the subway.”

Amory lives a quiet life as a waiter. The Moonlight Diner is the home he found after he was kicked out and disowned by his family for no other crime than who he loves.

Amory’s life is shaken to its very foundations after a chance meeting that has Amory witness a murder–except the man who dies in Amory’s arms doesn’t stay dead.

Far from being a ghost, Soyer is very real. He pulls Amory into a world in which magic exists and wreaks havoc on the life of unsuspecting people. But within what remains of the spell that touches both their lives, Amory and Soyer may just find love.

Warning: This m/m romance contains sexual content only suitable for mature audiences. It also contains graphic depictions of violence, past experiences of homophobia experienced in adolescence, and allusions to conversion therapy.

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

Hi, and thanks for having me. I’m Amory, and I’m 27.

    What is your favorite meal?

Well, in the diner where I work, Dwayne, the owner, makes this baba ganoush that’s to die for. I know that’s not a meal, technically, but it should be.

Tell us about a meal or food that says “home” to you.

I guess… you know what, until not too long ago, that would have been gnocchi, but it’s lasagna now. With tiramisu for dessert.

Growing up, who was the best cook in your family?

My mom did all the cooking. I helped sometimes, and so did my sister… that’s all been such a long time ago, you know.

If you cook, what kind of food do you like to prepare?

I’m not much of a cook, not because I don’t want to, but because I’ll end up taking food home from the diner or making something quick after my shift.

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

A normal amount of coffee, I guess? Some people I serve, they have far more than I do. There is this writer for instance. He comes into the diner late at night and still has several cups of coffee while he writes.

Who are your favorite people to share meals with?

I… I’m not sure how much I can say about him, but there is someone very special to me, and I like having dinner with him. Well, dinner for me. Technically, it’s breakfast for everyone else.
