Regan, Book 1, the Sisters O'Ryan by Dee S. Knight, writing as Jenna Stewart @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #historical #romance 1872 Oregon. In Dee S. Knight’s ménage a trois, two unusual men share widow Regan O’Ryan, promising her that in the West, dreams–and especially fantasies–can come true. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. Regan, Book 1, the Sisters O’Ryan by Dee S Knight, writing as Jenna Stewart

    Genre Historical ménage romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Joining in the westward migration, Davey and Regan O’Ryan Stone bought an Oregon farm sight unseen, hungering for adventure. Davey regretted the impulse far past the point of no return, and then he died. Now, unskilled and alone on her farm, Regan fears going home a failure–as a daughter, a wife and a farmer. With money quickly running out, she gladly accepts the offer of help from Seth Pratt, an acquaintance from the wagon train, and his friend Haywood Lawrence.

One-armed Seth seeks work at the remote farm at the end of an Oregon trail with low expectations. When he finds Regan, alone and widowed, he tamps down desire. She deserves better than a man handicapped in war, searching for his soul. She’s worthy of someone like his Shakespeare-spouting, best friend, Hay. Nothing could have prepared Seth for Regan’s simple solution–that both men stay. On the farm and in her bed.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?

Yes–in two sub-genre. Jenna Stewart is the name I use for ménage books (with the exception of two space opera ménage books, as Dee). As Jenna, I write historical and shifter ménage romance.

How do you come up with ideas?

I had the idea for the Sisters O’Ryan books (four of them), just kind of overnight. It felt like no real thought at all. Not sure where the idea came from, exactly. But another book I’d thought about for years was also historical. When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a nun in the worst way. My mom worked in a Catholic hospital and I was around nuns a great deal and I admired them. Back in the 1950s, nuns were very different from what we see today, so I wondered about a nun who joined the convent and was content–until she went home to Oregon to empty her mother’s house after her death. There she discovers secrets that have affected her whole life, and desire such as she’d never imagined. She was no longer content. After the passion she experienced, could she return to the convent? My publisher called it Seducing Their Nun–a title I’ve always hated. I wanted to call it Sins of the Mother, and if you give the book a try, you’ll understand why. I know people who have said they wouldn’t read the book because it was disrespectful to the church, but I promise, it isn’t! Anyway, from that book, I created a series of historical ménage romances that were connected by one character in the previous book–like six degrees of separation. The shifter books came about as a lark, just to see if I could do it.

I like ménage romance because it demonstrates that a woman can indeed love two men at the same time. However (sigh), I also think it takes very unusual people to maintain such a relationship. Not too many of them around.

What is the single most important part of writing for you?

Creating an idea that will appeal to readers. And it also has to appeal to me as a writer. I have lots of ideas I think would work for a book but I don’t believe in the concept I would have to write or I simply don’t understand it, so I can’t possibly write it. I want to create work that people like and I would like to read myself.

When did you write your first book?

Gosh! It makes me feel old. As Dee, I wrote Impatient Passion in 2002. I wrote Burning Bridges (as Anne Krist) in 2005. As Jenna, I wrote Regan in 2012. You see it took me a while to come around to focusing on ménage!

    FUN

    Leather or lace? Leather

    Black or red? Red, definitely

Satin sheets or smooth cotton? I know satin sheets have their problems, but what’s sexier than watching a satin sheet slip-slide off a naked body?

    Ocean or mountains? Ocean

City life or country life? City

Party life or evening at home? Evening at home, with my guys doing very naughty things

Dogs or cats? Both. I love watching their interactions

Shot Through the Heart by Andrea Downing @AndiDowning #RLFblog #historicalwesternromanceCan you have revenge on your mind when you’ve been Shot Through the Heart? In Andrea Downing’s new historical western romance, he wants to kill his sister’s murderers, she wants to help and heal the sick. Will it be trouble or love that finds them first?

Andrea, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Shot Through the Heart.

Shot Through the Heart by Andrea Downing

    Genre historical western romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Gunslinger Shiloh Coltrane has returned home to work the family’s Wyoming ranch, only to find there’s still violence ahead. His sister and nephew have been murdered, and the killers are at large.

Dr. Sydney Cantrell has come west to start her medical practice, aiming to treat the people of a small town. As she tries to help and heal, she finds disapproval and cruelty the payment in kind.

When the two meet, it’s an attraction of opposites. As Shiloh seeks revenge, Sydney seeks to do what’s right. Each wants a new life, but will trouble or love find them first?

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?

I write both historical and contemporary romance and women’s fiction, but so far all my books take place in the west. I’ve been using Wyoming fairly frequently as my setting as that’s where I live part-year (pandemics permitting!)

How do you come up with ideas?

Numerous different ways! My last book, Always on My Mind, devolved from an actual fight between cowboys and hippies at my local dancehall in the ’70s; Loveland came out of something I read about British aristocrats starting big cattle companies in the west. Shot Through the Heart started with the hero’s name, taken off my Cowboy calendar. Somewhere out there, there’s a real hero!

What is the single most important part of writing for you?

Character and conflict. Without really good characters, you have a very flat story, and without the conflict you have no story!

When did you write your first book?

Like most authors, that one is hidden away; mine is in boxes. It was written in the ’90s but I didn’t publish anything until 2012.

    FUN

    Leather or lace? Leather—cowhide!

Black or red? Black. A gypsy once told me I’d die if I drove a red car so I avoid red.

Satin sheets or smooth cotton? Cotton—I hate satin or silk sheets. Too slippery.

Ocean or mountains? Mountains, though I’m lucky enough to live near each part-year.

City life or country life? Country, of course.

Party life or evening at home? Can I have both?

Dogs or cats? Horses please? Okay, dogs if I must take one of those.

Read The Rancher’s Baby Proposal. Barbara White Daille shares a western romance novel with a baby, a rancher, and a proposal. What’s not to love about that?

    The Rancher’s Baby Proposal

Ally Martinez has always been known as a fun and flirty kind of gal. But deep down she’s never forgotten the cowboy who left town. When her crush Reagan Chase comes home after a five-year absence, Ally knows this is her big chance. The guy I’ve always wanted. Only Reagan has something different in mind.

Still reeling from his last relationship, Reagan needs a babysitter for his month-old son. With Ally’s help, he can get his family’s ranch ready for sale and get out of Cowboy Creek. The problem? Ally is one seriously cute distraction. But Reagan will do whatever it takes to keep his heart safe. Even if it means losing the only place–and the only woman–he can call home.

Know the Hero from Tanner by Cheryl St John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #westernromance #kindleunlimited

Tanner, by Cheryl St John, introduces you to a determined Southern belle and a no-nonsense ex-Union army captain making peace to save a baby they both love.

Know the Hero from Tanner by Cheryl St.John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #westernromance #kindleunlimitedCheryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your hero, but first, tell us about the book.

    Tanner by Cheryl St John

    Genre historical western

    Book heat level PG:

    He’s focused on the future…

The past is all she knows…

Together they’re forced to face today…

His months in Salisbury prison taught Union Captain Tanner Bell to detest a southern drawl, and Widow Cranford’s exaggerated Dixie twang has him gritting his teeth. His plans for a ranch are threatened when his orphaned newborn niece is delivered to him, and he desperately needs the landlady’s help.

Raylene Cranford survived a Georgia winter living on acorns and scrawny rabbits before traveling sixteen-hundred miles to carve out a life in Colorado. She lost everything–except her dignity and hope. Her feminine Southern graces are her armor, but maintaining appearances could cost her love.

Can a Southern belle and a Union soldier change deeply-ingrained misconceptions about themselves for the sake of a child?

    Know the Hero from Tanner

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.

It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?

Tanner is seldom bored, but when his animals are cared for, the baby is sleeping and he has time to himself, he enjoys reading.

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

He’s a meat and potatoes guy, but if he needed to eat on the road, he would probably buy sandwiches.

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

Tanner is usually found working in his trousers or denims and a loose cotton shirt. He likes nice clothing, however, and wears a white shirt, vest and tie to church. He adds a coat when weather permits.

Does he know how to fix things?

He knows how to do everything from shoeing horses to putting up fences and repairing porch floors and stairs.

He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

His attempts to do nice things for his landlady are rebuffed, and he’s puzzled. She doesn’t want his help. He attempted to supply wood for the stove and fireplaces, but Raylene assured him she could take care of it herself. He fixed her front porch and she was offended that one of her tenants was working on her property.

How does he act around children he doesn’t know?

When his sister died and left him with a newborn, he didn’t know what to do, but he asked for help and figured it out. Feeling out of his element swiftly transitioned to adoring his infant niece and planning a future with her.

What is he like first thing in the morning?

He’s an early riser, waking to care for his infant niece, and then go feed and water horses at his livery. He enjoys coffee with his breakfast. He cooked simple meals for himself or ate at the hotel restaurant until moving into Raylene Cranford’s boarding house and enjoying her cooking.

How does he handle things when in a “proper” social situation?

Tanner was a captain in the Union Army, and early in the war, he attended dinners and parties at the commanding officer’s homes. He’s well-schooled in social graces.

Valet or takes care of himself?

In 1868 American west, he takes care of himself.

    Sleeves buttoned or rolled up?

Or no shirt when the sun is radiating and he’s working iron on the forge.

    Carriage or horseback?

This hero owns and operates a livery, so he’s around horses all day every day. He has a favorite strawberry roan he rides, but for taking others on outings, he outfits a buggy.

Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!

    Mail-Order Beatrice by Caroline Clemmons

    Genre historical western romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Beatrice “Attie” Kendall has to escape from home with her six-week-old son. With the help of her kind brother, she goes to Atlanta where she consults a matchmaker. After the hard life Attie’s been dealt for her twenty years, she’ll finally have a good home with nice people and a friend nearby. In fact, her husband and their home seem too good to be true. Does she dare trust that her life has really changed?

Tate Merritt isn’t ready to get married but he gives in to his grandfather’s coercing. Grandpa raised him and Tate tries to please the older man. Tate doesn’t know what to think about this mail-order bride. She isn’t at all the wife he imagined—plus, she showed up with a baby! The child’s a cute little thing but Tate isn’t sure how he feels about her surprising him. How can he trust a woman whose story keeps changing?

Life presents obstacles to further complicate Attie and Tate’s marriage. They’ll have to work together to solve their problems and protect their family. Can they trust one another enough to make this marriage work?

Why did you write this book?

I was fortunate to be invited to join other authors writing books in the Widows, Brides, and Secret Babies series. Each is a stand-alone novella but all have in common that the heroine is a mail-order bride who shows up with a baby she’s kept secret from the prospective groom.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Historical western romance is my favorite to read and to write.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

Taylor Stapleton from Prince Charming by Julie Garwood. However, there are so many wonderful heroines in romances that choosing only one is difficult.

What are you working on at the moment?

Currently I’m writing An Agent for Judith, a Pinkerton Matchmaker series romance set to release on July 19 as #79 in this popular series (but each book is very different). This is my third contribution to the series, preceded by An Agent for Magdala and An Agent for Lydia.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I’ll be very busy writing for the rest of 2020. On July 7 I’ll release Desperate in Delaware in the Yours Truly: The Lovelorn series. On July 21, I’ll release one of the Golden Legacy series. On August 4, I’ll release Louisiana Bride in the North and South series. There are more scheduled but that’s probably all you want to know about today.
