Everyone fears what hunts in the shadows—especially
    the monsters…
When the supernatural lurks in the shadows of the
mundane, hunting monsters requires unique skills, like those of Raine McCord. A
series of deaths threatens to reveal the Kyn community and forces her to
partner with the sexy Gavin Durand.
As the trail leads to the foundation haunting
Raine’s childhood, she and Gavin must unravel lies and betrayals to discover not
only each other, but the emerging threat to them and the entire magical
    community.

The Bucket List of Raine McCord

    Name:
    Raine McCord
    Age:
Let’s stick with late twenties and call it good, shall we?
    Gender:
    Female
    Birthplace:
    Oregon
    Profession:
    Taliesin Security Officer/Wraith
    Welcome to Romance
Lives Forever. Your author introduced you. Now we’d like to get to know you
better. Please tell us about yourself.
    What
more can I tell you. No, seriously, there’s not much I can say. Somethings are best left alone, like me. Still, if you
dare rattle the cage, you might get more than you expected. Don’t turn on me,
and you’ll live a long and peaceful life. Cross me, and you might as well start
digging your own grave. It’ll save me time. (shifting in the chair) Of course
Gavin might have a few things to say about it, but it’s not like I have to
    listen, right?
    When
someone dies, we say they “kicked the bucket.” Therefore, a list of
things that a person wants to accomplish, places to go, situations to
experience, and so on have become known as a “Bucket List.” We’d like
to know yours, please. If you haven’t made one before, perhaps now would be a
good time. Who knows? It might inspire another book. While you’re at it, how
about telling us about some of your other favorite things? Here are the
    questions.
    What are two places
you would like to visit before you die, and why?
    Hmmm,
I haven’t really thought about it much, considering a Wraith’s life expectancy
can be cut short rather abruptly. (drumming fingers on table) I wouldn’t mind a
trip back to Europe, maybe check out Ireland, where my mother’s family came
from, see if anyone remembers her. Of course, that may stir up more trouble
    than it’s worth.
    Where is a place you
would never like to return, and why?
    (eyeing
Kayelle) Is this a trick question? Let’s just go with Aaron Talbot’s lab, and
the reason should be self-explanatory. Three months under that mad man was more
    than enough for me, thanks.
    Who is someone you
would like to meet, and why?
    (slow,
spreading smile of grim intentions) Gavin and I have discussed a possible trip
to Turkey, maybe drop in on a few Council members, convey our regards, make our
presence known, that kind of thing.
    Who is someone you
would like to avoid, and why?
    I’m
not much on avoidance, but I might actually step carefully around Rio Castle,
the demon lord of the Southwest. Yeah, that old bugger might worry me a bit.
    If you could time
travel to any date, what would it be, and what would you do there?
    (paling
a bit, lips tightening, looks away) It’s not just one. Having those I love pay
for my mistakes isn’t something that sits easy with me. (inhales and turns back
to face Kayelle) The most obvious answer is the night my mom and I were
kidnapped. I’d make sure Talbot and his cronies thought hard before coming
    after us.
    What is your birth
    order?
    I’m
an only child, which isn’t so bad for me, but my uncle may wish differently.
    Tell us about your
    favorite toy as a child.
    (face
softening) My mother’s dirk. I keep it close, even now.
    Describe your
favorite food and how it’s prepared.
    Hmmm,
Gavin’s pasta primavera, all those grilled veggies and cheese. Yeah, it’s my
favorite dish. (a serene, secretive smile) He’s great in the kitchen and rocks
an apron like no one’s business.
    Tell us about your
    best friend.
    (chuckling)
That would be Xander Cade. That girl. (shakes head) Men see this little curvy
blonde and think they’ve got it made. Boy are they in for a surprise. Never
underestimate the power of a woman, especially one with sharp claws and even
sharper teeth. Her bite is way worse than her bark. Just ask Warrick Vidis.

Lord Wastrel from Rogues Gallery by @BookEmDonna #RLFblog #Regency

Donna Cummings shares details about the creation of Lord
Wastrel in the box set Rogues Gallery.

    About the Book

    Title Rogues Gallery
    Genre Regency Romance Boxed Set
    Author Donna Cummings
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
    3 rogues, falling in love. . .
    Lord Midnight
Lord Midnight, a dashing highwayman, lives for revenge
against the uncle who stole his title and tried to kill him as a child. His
plan for vengeance–seducing his uncle’s bride-to-be–collides with his passion
for this spirited young woman desperate to escape her wedding. Soon he must
choose: saving the woman who stole his heart, or destroying the man who stole
    his life.
    Lord Rakehell’s Love
(The Curse of True Love, Book 1)
Simon is late to his own wedding, and Georgiana is
heartbroken by the scandal. After such a blunder, how can this rogue known as
Lord Rakehell prove his devotion to the woman he loves?
    Lord Wastrel (The
Curse of True Love, Book 2)
    Lord Wastrel–the most
notorious rake in London–has a child? Clearly he knows how to sire one, but he
knows nothing about raising one. He needs a scandal-free woman to be a suitable
mother. So why is he falling for Flighty Felicia, who is notorious for her
    numerous elopements?

    Introducing Lord Wastrel

Name: Hugh Longford, Lord Weyson (aka “Lord
    Wastrel”)
    Age: 30-ish
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: England
    Profession: Rogue
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight.
Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Tall. Long-ish
dark hair. Able to make ladies swoon with a single devilish smile.
    Who is the
significant other in your character’s life?
That would be Lady Felicia Selby, also known as
“Flighty Felicia” since she was notorious for eloping every
fortnight. (In her defense, she was trying to fall instantly in love, thanks to
her family’s curse.) Hugh has known her since they were children, and she was
the last person he expected to fall in love with. He resisted mightily. Guess
    who won that battle?
    Tell us about this
    character, please.
Hugh has earned his nickname by indulging in every bawdy
activity available to a young man of wealth and privilege. One morning he comes
home from a raucous evening of pleasure to discover he has a daughter he knew
nothing about, and he is her only
parent. He immediately changes his misspent ways, intent on finding a suitable,
non-scandalous wife to help him raise his child.
    Are any of his skills
a source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
Hugh was a very successful wastrel, before he became a
father, and while he does not regret his past, since it also brought him his
daughter, he is not at all receptive to Felicia’s suggestion that he write his
    memoirs.
    Does he have children?
    Hugh has a high-spirited four-year-old daughter named
Lucinda, who is mad about horses, and does her best at every opportunity to
convince her Papa she needs a pony of her very own. One of Hugh’s biggest
challenges is keeping a straight face around his strong-willed child.
    Does your character
care about what others assume about him?
Hugh doesn’t really care what others think of him, but he is
desperate to make sure his past sins do not impact his daughter’s future or her
happiness. She is already disadvantaged socially by being illegitimate, so he
does everything he can to prevent her being harmed by that, in any way.
    What inner doubt
causes your character the most difficulty?
Hugh is worried he will be as dreadful of a parent as his
own were. They loved scandal more than him, and he was left orphaned as a
    result.
    What is your
character’s biggest need at the beginning of the story?
Finding a wife who could be a perfect mother, helping him
raise his child. His notion of “perfect mother” does not include a
high-spirited woman whose scandals rival his own. . .at least at the beginning
    of the story.

    About Your Writer

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
She has an insatiable love for the roguish type, especially
those of us who make her laugh and
fan her face. She’s hoping others will feel the same way, which is why she has
included three of us in this one volume. *whispers* I am quite convinced I am
her favorite, despite her protests otherwise.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
Hmm, I cannot think of anything in particular. Of course, I
have become rather adept at using the Delete key on her laptop, even though I
swear to her I know nothing of how this “word production device”
    operates. *winks*
    What other character
from your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
There has already been quite a bit of clamor for more of the
story involving Felicia’s Great-Aunt Aurore. Thanks to their family’s curse, “Great-Aunt
Uproar” has been in love with someone considered unsuitable for several
decades. I, personally, would enjoy seeing her cousin Tony’s story unfold. The
man is an inveterate gambler, and believes he can control his own luck where
love is concerned. I have seen a glimpse of the woman who shall change his
destiny and, well, I don’t want to give Tony too many hints beforehand.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
I think she finds all of us rather amusing. Well, except for
those moments when we seem uncooperative, or another set of characters inserts
themselves into the front of the queue when she has planned something else
entirely. *glares at best friend Lord Rakehell* He is a perfect example. He
wasn’t even supposed to have his own story and somehow his got published before
mine. Still, we know our writer adores us, no matter what she may publicly
proclaim during the actual creation of our stories.
    Is there anything
you’d like to say to your writer?
Yes, actually. *uses most formal voice* You know how I
detest surprises, but you utilized them, quite successfully, to change my mind
about many important matters. *bows* You have my sincere gratitude.

  • Character Interviews

Philippa Marlowmellow from Mallow Mayhem by @Lisa_Haman #RLFblog #parody

    Interview with Philippa Marlowmellow

This interview is designed for your hero or heroine to tell
    readers about himself or herself.
    Tell us about
    yourself, please.
    Well…I’m Philippa Marlowmellow. I’m a private detective. I
live in Mallowtown. I work and live in the Pink.
    What is the Pink? Did
    you grow up there?
Oh no. I didn’t grow up in the Pink. The Pink is the seedier
side of Mallowtown. It’s a dangerous place to be. No one really chooses to live
in the Pink. You just kind of end up there.
How did you end up in
    the Pink?
I had a great time growing up. I lived in the burbs, went to
the right schools. Had the right friends. When I was in college, my roommate
and best friend disappeared. They found her body in the Pink. She was…she
was…well, anyway, I changed my major from education to criminal justice, but I
couldn’t leave her murder alone. I had to find out what happened. And I did. I
quit school and got my detective’s license. I live in the Pink because that’s
where most of the mallows need help.
    Authors call what you
want but cannot have “the conflict” — what is yours?
Hmmm…that’s a hard question. Sometimes I want to go back to
my other life and unsee the things I’ve seen. I have a love/hate relationship
with the Pink. Sometimes I want to go back to the suburbs, live in a nice
graham cracker house with a white sugar picket fence, marry a successful mallow
and have 2.5 chicks, but then there are the mallows that need my help. Those who
don’t have anyone to look out for them; it’s hard.
What can you not do (but
need to do) during this story?
I think I did everything I could do during this story. It’s
hard not to be a bunny when trying to get into stripper joints, since chicks
don’t make good strippers. I don’t think we’re limber enough.
    What inner doubt
    causes you the most difficulty?
That I will miss something in an investigation and some
    mallow gets hurt.
    In the story world
your author created, explain what it is you fear most and why.
That I will lose my sense of self. I don’t want to be that
jaded chick who thinks the world is an awful place. I’ve seen some pretty bad
things, but the world is still a beautiful place.
    Tell us about your
significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Right now I don’t have one…although there is this chick at
the MBI who is really cute.
    What would that
    person say about you?
Right now this mallow would say I’m crazy and likes to get
    into trouble.
    What is your family
    like?
I have a great family. My dad is a banker and my mom is a
stay-at-home mom. We were pretty boring. We were that typical suburban family.
I have a sister, which is good. My parents worry and they can dote on her, the
normal one. (she laughs.). She had a temper, and when she blew…oh my. My dad
used her craft scissors to cut up some licorice rope. You don’t mess with my
mom’s craft scissors. I thought the roof was going to come off the house. It
was short lived and they made up. My parents never stayed mad at each other. They
encouraged us to be our best. They may not like what I do, but they support me
    the best they can.
    What special skills
    do you rely on?
My mallow senses. They tingle and I know something’s not
right. They’ve kept me out of trouble and help when I need to investigate
    something further.
    If someone from your
past showed up, who would you NOT want it to be, and why?
I don’t want to be a cliché and say Big Bunny, because he’s
nothing to me. I don’t think I have anyone that I wouldn’t want to show up.
Like I said, I grew up in a pretty boring suburban setting.
    Why are you happy (or
not happy) with the way your story ended?
Why wouldn’t I be happy with the way my story ended? I love
the way it all came together. I was the heroine, along with Jenny. The bad
mallows went to jail, Easter Bunny was saved and all is well with the world…at
    the moment.

    About the Writer

Lisa Haman lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with her
wonderful husband, two beautiful children, and two cats, O.C. and Koko. Koko
loves to help her to write on occasion by sitting on the keyboard of her
laptop. Lisa plays electric bass, aka Kitty Blue, with the praise band at her
church. Although she doesn’t design her own patterns, Lisa creates beautiful
pictures with counted cross stitch, which more often than not go to family and
friends. Lisa’s interest in the paranormal fuels her imagination. She likes to
scare herself silly with reality ghost series on television. She likes to write
wherever her imagination takes her, but focuses on young adult fiction. She
also is working on her first paranormal series for young adults yet to be titled.
Her first novella, Fat Farm, is a
work of speculative fiction, takes us on a journey where beauty is important
and being overweight sends you off to a fat farm, where you may or may not
return. Lisa’s favorite quote is from Robert Frost. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and
that has made all the difference.” Lisa takes the road less travelled in her
    stories.
    What was your biggest
    challenge in writing this book?
I originally wrote this as a writing exercise that got away
from me. The story contained all the original candy names. I learned I couldn’t
use those names because of trademark issues, so coming up with other names for
    the candy was tough.
    Why did you choose
this character for the interview today?
I think Philippa is a neat character. I watch a lot of shows
like NCIS, Elementary, and I like how they solve crimes. I like to know what is
going on. I’m kind of nosy and unfortunately my sense of right and wrong won’t
let me get into people’s business, so I let Philippa do it for me.
    Are any sequels
    planned for this book?
Yes. She’s a fun character and I want to find out more about
    her.
    What would your
readers be surprised to learn about you?
During Christmas I will watch every version of the movie of
A Christmas Carol I can find. It could be the good ones with Alastair Sim and
Patrick Stewart, to the cheesy ones, and the really bad ones. The funny thing
is I’ve never read the book. It’s on my to-read list.
    Why should readers
who haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
It’s fun. It’s total escapism. It’s a fun detective story
that is off the wall and cool.
    Is there anything
you’d like to say to your readers?
I’m glad you are out there. I’m a reader and have loved
books all my life. My goal as a writer is to tell a good story and have people
enjoy them. I hope you enjoy mine.

  • Historical

    Marcus from Liberty by @KimHeadlee #RLFblog #historical

Kim Iverson Headlee shares details about the creation of Marcus
Calpurnius Aquila in the book Liberty.

    About the Book

    Title Liberty
    Genre historical romance
    Author Kim Iverson Headlee
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
They hailed her “Liberty,” but she was free only to
    obey–or die.
Betrayed by her father and sold as payment of a Roman tax debt
to fight in Londinium’s arena, gladiatrix-slave Rhyddes feels like a wild beast
in a gilded cage. Celtic warrior blood flows in her veins, but Roman masters own
her body. She clings to her vow that no man shall claim her soul, though Marcus
Calpurnius Aquila, son of the Roman governor, makes her yearn for a love she believes
    impossible.
Groomed to follow in his father’s footsteps and trapped in a
politically advantageous betrothal, Aquila prefers the purity of combat on the amphitheater
sands to the sinister intrigues of imperial politics, and the raw power and athletic
grace of the flame-haired Libertas to the adoring deference of Rome’s noblewomen.
When a plot to overthrow Caesar ensnares them as pawns in the
dark design, Aquila must choose between the Celtic slave who has won his heart and
the empire to which they both owe allegiance. Trusting no man and knowing the opposite
of obedience is death, the only liberty offered to any slave, Rhyddes must embrace
her arena name–and the love of a man willing to sacrifice everything to forge a
    future with her.
    Book Trailer: https://youtu.be/VVtiNrBAC-0

    Introducing Marcus Calpurnius Aquila

    Name: Marcus Calpurnius Aquila
    Age: mid-20s
    Gender: male
    Birthplace: Rome, Italia
    Profession: politician in training
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human):
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include
any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Marcus has the body of
a football quarterback: muscular but not overly bulky. In present-day terms he tops
6′ in height, 220 pounds, and has a fading tan from having spent the past two years
living under the paler northern sun of Britannia Province. He has some minor scars
from his arena bouts, but nothing specifically mentioned in the book as being an
    issue for him.
Who is the significant other in your character’s life?
The woman who empowers his soul is Rhyddes, a gladiatrix-slave
whom he knows by her arena name “Libertas.”
Tell us about this character, please.
Libertas is the first woman Marcus has ever known who does not
swoon over his wealth, charms, or looks. She sees him for who he is: a man struggling
to free himself from the bonds of duty, and he comes to appreciate that very much.
He recognizes in her a kindred spirit in that regard, for she is oath-bound to obey
her masters too. Although her beauty attracts him to her, it is her unconquerable
spirit that ultimately leads him to want to sacrifice everything to win her love.
    How does your hero dress?
In a toga on the Senate floor, and in scanty armor on the arena
floor. He prefers the scanty armor, and so do his legions of female admirers.
    Is the character book-smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
Marcus has had all the educational privileges offered to Rome’s
aristocratic citizens, so in that regard he possesses a fair degree of “book
smarts,” but he is also widely experienced because of his arena exploits… and
    the epic after parties.
What is your character’s viewpoint on wealth?
Unlike most Roman aristocrats, Marcus believes that his wealth
and status should be used to help people rather than to control and exploit them.
On what special skills does your character rely?
Although his being an aristocrat exempts him from fights to the
death, he is a highly skilled swordsman in his own right–and he would never have
believed that this skill would save his life and the life of the woman he loves.
Are any of his skills a source of pride or embarrassment,
and if so, which ones and why?
His predilection for arena combat is an extreme source of embarrassment
for his family, particularly his father, Governor Agricola. In fact, it becomes
a major point of contention between them, and Marcus’s desire to consort with Libertas
    further widens the rift.
    Is he close to family?
Marcus enjoys a very close relationship with his mother, Lady
Loreia, who in the way of all mothers understands him better than he understands
    himself at times.
Can your hero keep a secret (why or why not)?
Marcus must keep his budding relationship with Libertas a secret,
for to do otherwise would cause him to be banned from polite Roman society. He doesn’t
care about that so much, but he knows it would stain his family too, and he has
no wish to inflict that pain upon them.
What is your character’s biggest need at the beginning of
    the story?
Marcus needs his father to accept him for who he is, not for
how he can enhance Agricola’s political career.
If your character could make any one thing happen, what would
    it be?
Once he decides that Libertas is the woman with whom he wants
to spend the rest of his life, he will stop at nothing–even sacrificing all of
his wealth and power–to make marriage with her possible.

    About Your Writer

To honor the person who chose to share your story, please answer the following
    questions.

Why do you think your writer chose to write about you?
She chose to write about Libertas–Rhyddes. I am merely a facet
    of Rhyddes’s story.
What do you wish your writer had not told others about you?
I wish that she had not gone into such detail about my strained
relationship with my father; that is a highly personal matter for me, and one I
do not readily share with anyone.
What other character from your book do you think your writer
should write a book about, and why?
I would like to know more about Rhyddes’s brother Owen. Of all
her brothers, Owen is the closest to her in age and spirit, and I imagine his story
    is a fine one too.
Why do you think your writer loves to write?
Who can say? But if I were to venture a guess, it would be that
she must love to entertain people with her words, much in the same way that I love
to entertain people with my swordplay.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your writer?
Thank you, Kim Iverson Headlee, for accepting the daunting challenge
of presenting the story of Rhyddes’s life in such a faithful and poignant manner.

    Author Bio

Kim Headlee lives on a farm in southwestern Virginia with her
family, cats, goats, Great Pyrenees goat guards, and assorted wildlife. People and
creatures come and go, but the cave and the 250-year-old house ruins–the latter
having been occupied as recently as the mid-twentieth century–seem to be sticking
    around for a while yet.
Kim is a Seattle native and a direct descendent of twentieth-century
Russian nobility. Her grandmother was a childhood friend of the doomed Grand Duchess
Anastasia, and the romantic yet tragic story of how Lydia escaped Communist Russia
with the aid of her American husband will most certainly one day fuel one of Kim’s
novels. Another novel in the queue will involve her husband’s ancestor, the seventh-century
proto-Viking king of the Swedish colony in Russia.
For the time being, however, Kim has plenty of work to do in
creating her projected 8-book Arthurian series, The Dragon’s Dove Chronicles, and
other novels under her imprint, Pendragon Cove Press.

Ben Carrington from More Than Words, Madison Falls 2 by @suebeehny #RLFblog #Contemporary

    Interview with Ben Carrington

This interview is designed for your hero or heroine to tell
    readers about himself or herself.
    Tell us about yourself, please.
(Shrugs) (Looks up with gorgeous sky blue eyes)—(Reed, his
best friend, nudges him to get him to talk.) Okay! My name is Ben Carrington. I
co-manage Sutton Construction with the idiot next to me-OW! Damn it!-(Shoves
Reed back.) I’ve lived in Madison Falls a little over a year now. (Reed rolls
his hand in front of Ben in the “keep going” gesture.)
    I’m not that fond
of talking. What else? Oh, Reed called me after we got out of the Navy and
asked me to move here to help him after his dad retired. So, that’s it.
    Authors call what you
want but cannot have “the conflict” — what is yours?
I’ve been in love with Tracy King, the owner of King’s Cake
in a Cup, almost since I moved here. I want to ask her out but can’t seem to
manage the words. I go to her shop all the time to try her cupcakes and listen
to her talk. I’m hoping she’ll take the hint and ask me out first.
What can you not do (but
need to do) during this story?
I need to be able to tell Tracy how I feel about her and the
real reason I’m so quiet all the time. I’m not a jerk, but like I said, I don’t
    like to talk.
    What inner doubt
    causes you the most difficulty?
I’m afraid that Tracy will move on before I have a chance to
make my move. I also don’t want her to think less of me when I tell her my
    secret.
In the story world your author created, explain what it is
    you fear most and why.
Tracy’s dad is out of prison and wants money from her. I’m
afraid he’ll try to hurt her to get what he wants. He’s ruthless and I want to
keep her safe at my house.
    Tell us about your
significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
(A slow smile spreads over Ben’s face and his eyes light
up.) Tracy is…(He gives Reed a warning glare to keep quiet.) Tracy is
everything I’ve ever wanted in a woman. She’s beautiful, outgoing, smart, and,
well, she’s everything. I love her so much, I run extra miles to stay in shape
because I eat so many of her cupcakes. Try them. They’re the best.

    About the Writer

    Susan Behon,
author of the Madison Falls Series, enjoys creating a world that brings readers romance, laughter, and a healthy dose
of sexiness. Susan graduated summa cum laude with a B. A. in English from
Norfolk State University. She currently lives in Ohio with her very own romance
hero of a husband and their two wonderful daughters.
    What was your biggest
    challenge in writing this book?
I think my biggest challenge was in making Ben an awesome
book boyfriend since he doesn’t talk much. I had to help him convey his
    feelings in other ways.
    Why did you choose
this character for the interview today?
Ben needs to learn to open up and talk to more people. I’m
trying to get him to be more of a people person.
    When writing the
book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
Still waters run deep with Ben Carrington. He may look tall,
dark, and quiet, but his inner thoughts will throw you for a loop.
    Are any sequels
    planned for this book?
Absolutely. I planned it as a series. I am currently writing
    Book #3, Keith’s story.
    What genre(s) would
you like to write that you haven’t tried yet?
I would love to try romantic suspense or maybe a paranormal
    romance.
    What would your
readers be surprised to learn about you?
    I’m a left-handed, green-eyed, triplet who happens to have a
    mad addiction to Reese’s cups.
    Why should readers
who haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
It has everything: romance, steamy love scenes, humor,
action, suspense, and an intriguing story line.
    Is there anything
you’d like to say to your readers?
Please, please, please buy my book(s)! You’ll fall in love
with the characters and walk away with a smile on your face.

Tracy King, the cupcake queen, has
given up on getting her prince charming to notice her.
After over a year of coming to her
bakery, Ben Carrington, tall, dark, and … quiet, has yet to ask her out. Ben
likes sampling her cupcakes, but little does she know that his real craving is
    for a taste of Tracy.
A leaky roof on a rainy night
leaves Tracy swamped, literally. Ben brings her home with him, knowing that
actions speak louder than words. Tempting Tracy into romance is easier said
than done when secrets from her past come back to Madison Falls with a
    vengeance.
Ben has a secret of his own but
can’t let it keep him from protecting his lady love. Will he finally tell her
his true feelings or will he be silenced for good?

Colton Blake from Scorpio Sons 1 by @nhysglover #RLFblog #Romance

The character interview allows a hero or heroine to tell
readers about himself or herself. Today’s interview is with Colton Blake from Scorpio
    Sons 1: Colton.

    Interview with Colton Blake

    Tell us about yourself, please.
What do you want to know? Talking about myself isn’t my thing.
Staying in the shadows is my thing. Okay, I guess I have to do this, don’t I? Well,
my name is Colton Blake and I’m one of a hundred genetically-engineered clone warriors
who got stuck with a heavy dose of panther DNA. I guess you could say I was a test
tube baby and when it came time for us to be hatched – I can never work out what
to call it. We weren’t born; we were just taken out of our gestation tubes. Anyway,
whatever you call it, once it happened, me and my brothers were secretly removed
from the labs and given to the Résistance, a covert organization fighting the Guild,
the monsters who created us as their own personal army.
The people who raised me were decent and loving people. Sometimes
I think I see that time in my life through rose colored glasses, because it can’t
have been as good as I remember it, can it? But compared to what came later I guess
it was pretty perfect. Anyway, my folks were killed in a car accident when I was
seven, and I was put into foster care.
I wasn’t there long before my cat got activated and I killed
my foster father. I did say I got a heavy dose of panther DNA, didn’t I? That latent
DNA gets activated in extreme situations, usually around puberty. Mine came earlier
because I’d just lost my folks, I was living with strangers, and I was watching
the bastard who called himself my foster-dad molesting one of the girls in his care.
I just cracked, and when I came back to myself there was a dead man on the floor.
I freaked and ran. After that I lived on the streets, playing vigilante like ‘Dexter’,
until Chase found me and brought me into the Scorpio Sons. For about five years
now I’ve worked covertly with my brothers to bring justice to those who consider
    themselves above the law.
Authors call what you want but cannot have “the conflict”
    — what is yours?
I want to protect my mate from danger. You’d think that’d be
easy, considering I could kill a man with my bare hands at seven, wouldn’t you?
But it’s not. I’m forced to stand at her side while she takes on our enemies. My
cat (that’s what we call the panther aspect of ourselves) fights me every step of
the way. See, my human side knows Lyss has her part to play in saving the world,
but my cat’s primal urge is to lock her up somewhere safe so I can get on with my
job. So far my human side has mostly won the fight.
What can you not do (but need to do) during this story?
Trust. Lyss is my world, and yet I can’t seem to trust the bond
we created. I’m a work in progress in lots of ways. Luckily, she’s okay with that.
What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty?
That Alyssa can’t possibly love someone like me; that I can’t
be good enough for her. I’m just a killer who grew up on the streets. Maybe she
just thinks she loves me because I saved her life four years ago. I don’t know.
Sometimes I feel like gelignite. I only need the smallest bump to explode. My intensity
scares me. Especially the intensity of my feelings for Lyss.
In the story world your author created, explain what it is
    you fear most and why.
I fear losing Lyss. The bonds we Sons form with our genetically-engineered
mates is as close as any bond between two individuals can be. It’s instantaneous,
powerful, and all-consuming. The idea of losing Lyss guts me. So, yeah, I live everyday
afraid that she’ll wake up to herself and leave me – or she’ll be taken by the Guild
and I won’t be able to save her.
Tell us about your significant other, that person who makes
    living worthwhile.
That’s Alyssa. I’ve probably raved on about her too much already.
But maybe not about her specifically; just about how I feel about her. So… yeah,
I met her, for want of a better word, when I saved her from rapists at her college.
Back then I was still doing my Dexter thing. So I let my dark passenger out on those
    bastards.
As I was the first of the Sons to find my mate, I didn’t have
a clue what was going on when I came face-to-face with her. Suddenly, a sex drive
I never knew I had, came to life. So I got out of there fast, real fast, before
she ended up having to fight me off too. I didn’t see her again for four years.
But I never forgot her. That would’ve been impossible.
Okay, doing it again. You wanted me to tell you about Alyssa
herself. So, yeah, Alyssa Aimes became America’s Sweetheart after almost winning
a talent contest on TV. You’d expect that image to be artificial or something, but
there’s nothing staged about Lyss. She really is as sweet, and beautiful, and talented
as she seems on TV. America got that right, at least. (I’m Canadian, can’t you tell?)
She’s sort of fragile too, which makes me feel like I might break her if I’m not
careful. But even though she doesn’t see herself as strong and brave, she keeps
proving she is, even when I wish she didn’t have to. And did I mention she’s beautiful?
Not in a glamorous way. She’s more like the pretty girl-next-door type. Can I quit
    now?
What would that person say about you?
More? You’d make a great shrink. Maybe I should’ve been lying
on a couch for all this. Okay…Lyss would say I’m intense, moody, and have a hair-trigger
temper. The first time I met her I’d just injured or killed her would-be rapists.
So she knew right from the start what I was; what I’m capable of. But she loves
me anyway. Maybe it’s my cat that attracts her cat. Maybe that’s what makes her
so accepting of me and my many faults. But yeah, if you asked her about me, she’d
end up saying something mushy like I’m everything she ever dreamed of and more.
    What is your family like?
I don’t have any except for Lyss. And yeah, I guess my cloned
brothers count as family too. It’s weird, you know, having the Sons in my life–
like finding your identical twin you were separated from at birth. But not just
finding him once, but over and over again. We’ve only tracked down 40 or so of us
yet, but we’ll find the rest. That’s what we do – save the world, find our brothers
and the Mates who were made for us.
What special skills do you rely on?
Huh, where do I start? My cat DNA means I have enhanced speed,
strength, and sensual acuity, (I can see in the dark and hear things a normal human
    couldn’t, that sorta stuff). I’m a super-soldier. Oh and I’m a pretty good tactician.

    About the Writer

After a lifetime of teaching others to appreciate the written
word, Aussie author Nhys Glover finally decided to make the most of the Indie Book
Revolution to get her own written word out to the world. Now, with over 100,000
of her ebooks downloaded internationally and a winner of 2013 SFR Galaxy Award for
‘The Titan Drowns’, Nhys finds her words, too, are being appreciated.
Living in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales of England, Nhys these
days spends most of her time “living the dream” by looking out over the
moors from her window as she writes the kind of novels she loves to read. The ones
that are a little bit steamy, a little bit different, and wholly romantic.
What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?
Coming up with distinctly different characters for all the Sons,
who are basically all the same person. I did a lot of reading about identical twins,
because that’s what clones are. Then I drew up an astrological natal chart for the
Sons’ ‘birth’ and started assigning qualities to each from that chart. Yes, I used
to be a professional astrologer. It taught me a lot about people.
Why did you choose this character for the interview today?
Colt is wonderfully intense and complex. A real Heathcliff. I
love deep and moody. And as he’s the first of the Sons to find his mate, his was
    the steepest learning curve.
When writing the book, what did you discover about this character
    that surprised you?
My characters are always surprising me. I’m more reporter than
novelist. I just follow along behind my people, recording what goes on, and not
knowing what will happen in the end until I get there. So, Colt was no exception.
He handled putting Lyss in danger a lot better than I expected. He’s like Alyssa
in that way; doesn’t see how amazing he really is. But he proved it to me.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
There already are six in the series. The seventh is on pre-release
and will be available on the 20 May.

    About the Book

    Title Scorpio Sons 1: Colton
    Genre SF/Shifter Romance
    Author Nhys Glover
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Staring into glowing cat-eyes, while her attackers lay like broken
dolls in the snow around her, shouldn’t have been a turn-on. But it was. She shouldn’t
consider the man who killed to save her from her rapists a hero. But she does. She
shouldn’t feel as if she belongs to that hero, mind body and soul, but there’s no
way she can deny it. And the hardest part for Alyssa Aimes to get her head around,
besides his extraordinary eyes: the knowledge that she’ll never see him again.
But four years later, Colton Blake does come back into her life,
just as dramatically as he left it. And this time she’s determined to keep him there,
even if she has to risk her recording contract and her life to do it.
For Colt, much has changed in four years. No longer a homeless
drifter with a dangerous secret, he has found his place among the Scorpio Sons,
an elite band of genetically engineered cloned warriors charged with bringing to
justice a secret cabal that has been exploiting the world for millennia. But one
thing that hasn’t changed during that time: his obsession with Alyssa, the stranger
he met just once and can’t seem to forget. But now his mission has brought Alyssa
    back into his life. And with her comes a secret she doesn’t even realize she harbors;
a secret that could bring not only Colt to his knees, but the whole band of the
    Scorpio Sons along with him.
