Trelleir is a true dragon whose magic allows him to take on human form. The last of his kind, he longs for companionship. However, his only friend is not only a human female, but a slayer. Sworn to kill all dragons, including him.

Summoned by the village council, Deneas is sent on a quest to kill any and all dragons, and cannot return without proof of her success. Finding the mythical creature and avoiding its deadly talons and fire are not her only problems. Another slayer follows with orders to kill her. As she retraces her slain mother’s footsteps, Deneas learns the world is not what it seems.

Know the Heroine from Fire and Amulet

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?

She takes her weapons into the garden behind the house. Slow twirls with the staff start her practice routine, which then changes to figure eights. Slowly, then building speed, she’ll go through an intricate series of moves. The physical and mental effort not only tones her muscles and builds strenght, it also return body and soul to a calmer state.

What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?

Impulse buying is not something Deneas would be familiar with. Most things in her world are made by the village residents and obtained by barter or gifting. Any coins she obtains are confiscated by the head slayer. That said, if she had the opportunity to purchase something other than supplies for the trail, she would add sweet baked treats to the pack or some of the green oblong fruit baked into treats or eaten in segments.

Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

A tunic that fell below her hips starts her wardrobe. Either short or long pants, depending on what activity she contemplated, is also part of the ensemble. Adding a headcloth completes the usual desert garb for when she goes outside the village wall. Ankle-high eather boots provides protection against the heat of the sand or sharp stones. She made leather sandals to wear around town.

Does she know how to fix things?

Not only did Trelleir impart some of his scholarly knowledge to Deneas, her association with the town blackmiths provided her with skills other than that provided by her survival training. Replacing a wagon wheel or repairing horse tack are among the things she can fix. While it is not in the true definition of fixing something, she is a master at creating fire.

How does she act around children she doesn’t know?

Deneas shows kindness and patience. When she and Trelleir rescued a small child from kidnappers, Deneas worked to reassure the child with a soft tone and kneeling to be at the child’s level. Rest breaks unneeded by the adults were taken to allow the child to rest. In a show of friendship, Deneas made a staff appropriate to the child’s size to use as a walking stick – and as a weapon.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

Used to beginning her day with the dawning, Deneas is mentally alert in the morning. A leonine stretch eases muscles abused by battle or a long night of physical work. Although she has broken her fast with nothing but a bowl of water, a cup of brewed atok leaves does help provide energy for the day.

How does she act around people who don’t know what she is?

Fading into the background and not making herself the center of attention is Deneas’ preferred manner when in a crowd. However, when needed, she will reveal herself as a slayer and take charge of the situation.

How does she handle things when in a “proper” social situation?

Deneas falls back onto habit and the formal responses drilled into her during her slayer training. Even as she stood before the Council of Elders when they sent her out on an impossible quest that was in essence a death sentence, she latched onto her training. Despite the wall of ice around her soul, she uttered the formal response of parting sufficiently well that the elders didn’t criticize her.

    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?

Traders in the caravans that used to pass through Darceth had piercings and tattoos, but not the village residents. Jewelry is a rarity in Deneas’ village. The closest thing she owns is a pair of jeweled hair sticks Trelleir made for her. Little did she know that the red jewels in them were actually dragon tears.

    Carriage or horseback?

Caldar, leader of the Council of Elders of Darceth, was so uncooperative that trader caravans refused to stop by the town. This resulted in there being only a few wagons in the village and no carriages. Only three horses constituted Darceth’s herd and Caldar wouldn’t let a mere slayer have one. Reality made the choice for Deneas. Her preferred transportation would have to be on foot.

Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

Know the Hero from Prophecies and Promises the new #HistoricalRomance by Alana Lorens @AlexanderLyndi #RLFblog #PiratesWhen the ‘good’ man is bad, and the ‘bad’ man is good, how’s a young woman to choose? In Prophecies And Promises, Alana Lorens whips up a tale of pirates, stormy seas, wartime heroics, and a love triangle set in Key West, Florida during the Spanish-American War.

Alana, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Prophecies and Promises.

Prophecies and Promises by Alana Lorens

    Genre historical romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

Tamsyn McKiernan thinks her dreams have come true. She’s engaged to a dashing Key West bachelor and finally in her widowed father’s good graces. But in her heart, she knows something’s wrong. She loves the ocean and the quiet pleasures of nature—so what does the aristocratic life she’ll lead truly hold for her?

Mercenary captain Drake Ashton is neck deep in preparations for the Spanish-American War, running guns and other supplies to Cuban natives who want out from under their Spanish masters. He and his brother Freddie risk their lives daily, focused on saving his friends on the island. Nothing else matters but his mission.

A chance encounter with a spiny sea urchin brings the two together, and neither of their lives will ever be the same again.

Know the Hero from Prophecies and Promises

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.

It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?

Picks up a pencil and begins sketching. He likes to draw natural scenes, things he remembers from his travels around the Caribbean, but he chooses a different subject after he meets a mysterious woman on a beach.

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

Whatever’s available, especially local ethnic dishes

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

Practical, working shirts and pants, nothing frilly or involved. Good solid boots, with roughed-up soles so he doesn’t slip on the deck of the Raven.

Does he know how to fix things?

He’d better! When you have an old Spanish galleon at your command, you’d best believe something’s always breaking! Seriously, though, Drake Ashton has been sailing since he was a boy growing up in the Florida Keys, and he knows every nail and pulley on his boat.

He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

He pulls quite the stunt when he abducts Tamsyn from her engagement ball. It all works out perfectly, but when she insists on returning home to save him from the consequences of his rash act, he had no idea that her fiancé Thatcher Winslow would threaten to put her in a mental hospital as a result.

How does he act around children he doesn’t know?

He loves children—in the rebel camp at Matanzas, Cuba, he teaches them to play baseball and basically “Big Brothers” all of them.

What is he like first thing in the morning?

He’s an early riser, for the most part. Ship life begins at sunrise, so he’s learned to adapt.  He’s also ready to go as soon as he gets out of bed—no sleepy dragging about. But a cup of coffee or mug of rum certainly helps start the day.

How does he handle things when in a “proper” social situation?

He’s equally comfortable in a society ballroom, having been taught good manners by his late mother. Part of his pirating profession involves being able to move along the edge of society, so he can pick up useful information and blend in when he needs to. That’s how he can be at the New Year’s ball and rescue Tamsyn from being a wallflower when Thatcher leaves her on her own, vulnerable to the society gossips.

Valet or takes care of himself?

He has a cabin boy who tidies, etc., but he’s a man who looks after his own needs.

    Necktie/cravat or open shirt?

Open shirt, definitely. One needs a little freedom of movement to work on a ship or pull off capers. 😊

    Sleeves buttoned or rolled up?

Likely rolled up. Same reason as above.

    Powdered wig or natural hair?

Drake is a big fan of natural all around, so no wigs here. UNLESS it’s necessary as a disguise for a caper.

    Carriage or horseback?

There isn’t much opportunity for a sailor to ride horseback, and he wouldn’t usually take a carriage for himself alone. But he does have opportunities to squire a pretty lady around town, and for her, he’ll snag a carriage.

What Francie Karr eats for dinner, from I Sorta Do by Cheryl St John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #SweetRomance #RomanticComedyIn Cheryl St John’s new sweet romantic comedy, I Sorta Do, an impulsive freelance photographer blackmails a buttoned-up father of two into spending a week as her make-believe husband in order to impress her old high school classmates. Sparks fly—and ignite.

Cheryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

I Sorta Do by Cheryl St John

    Genre: sweet romantic comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Husband needed: One week commitment. Children optional.

I, Francie Karr, take you, Ryan MacNair, in bogus matrimony to convince my grandma and high school reunion class that I’m blissfully married—you provide the kids. A week should do it. You pledge to be so irresistible that you charm the Spanx right off those stuck-up gossips. Your touches should make their eyes pop, and your kisses be so intoxicating that we don’t have to fake that part. Oh, and we promise not to let this family—or this electricity between us—feel real.

Sizzling sweet romance by a USA Today bestselling author

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

I’m Francesca Karr, but the only one who calls me that is my grandmother. Please call me Francie. I’m 33 years old.

What is the time period in which you live?

I’m a modern-day girl, in love with technology. I especially appreciate digital photography and Door Dash deliveries.

    What is your favorite meal?

Anything someone else cooks—and something that’s ready quickly. I tend to eat on the run or in front of the tv in the evening. If I can’t grab it on the way home or order in, I make a protein shake.

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

Don’t try to pass off raw fish as a meal. That’s just wrong.

Tell us about a meal or food that says “home” to you.

My YaYa was a great cook, and she spoiled me with homemade dinners and desserts. I still enjoy an occasional fried chicken dinner with a heaping plate of mashed potatoes. Those two things with an ear of corn on the cob scream summer at YaYa’s to me.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

I try everything. There are very few foods I don’t like. I’m not a picky eater.

What is the worst meal you’ve ever eaten?

Probably something I made myself. If I’m forced to make a meal, I ask Alexa how to do it and then substitute ingredients because I don’t buy many groceries. I don’t recommend this method. Door Dash is so easy and far more palatable.

What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten?

The first meal I ate with Ryan MacNair was the most enjoyable I can remember. We went to an Italian restaurant and shared lasagna and a bottle of wine.

Growing up, who was the best cook in your family?

It was only me and my Yaya, and she was an incredible cook. She made me breakfast and packed my lunches. I never needed anyone other than her. She was my family.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

Breakfast is important to keep up my energy level. My Ninja is the most used appliance I own. Every morning I have a protein, fruit and veggie shake to start my day.

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

I’m a snacker. My grocery delivery is filled with yogurt, rice cakes, fig bars, popcorn and cut vegetables. My secret stash contains little snack pudding cups and gummy bears.

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

I enjoy strong black coffee. Sometimes I do a sweet mocha latte.

    Favorite alcoholic beverage?

A top shelf margarita on ice, not frozen.

    Favorite non-alcoholic beverage?

Black coffee or iced tea with lemon.

What do you grab when there’s no time for a regular meal?

I make myself a shake or eat fruit and vegetables. I’m quite accomplished at making peanut butter sandwiches as well.

Tell us what your author eats or drinks while writing about you.

My author drinks a lot of decaffeinated coffee. I’ve asked what the point is, and she claims she likes the taste, but doesn’t do caffeine. She’s a snacker too, and I have to limit her Peanut Butter M&Ms.

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero – Stanley Powers.

It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?

Well, I certainly don’t watch Christmas movies or anything so frivolous. I’ll spend my time scouting out companies looking who need additional funding. Or check my portfolio. Until I’m thrust into the role of guardian and am suddenly responsible for my orphaned eight-year-old nephew. Then it’s kid’s movies with him, and scouring parenting websites once he’s gone to bed. Oh, and maybe making out with the kid’s sexy counselor.

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

Pizza. Oh my God, pizza. Especially from that little store around the corner.

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

My preference? T-shirt and jeans. I do love me some casual. For business? Suits all the way – have to demonstrate how successful I am, even if I don’t always feel that way.

Does he know how to fix things?

I used to live in a cabin in the woods with my ex-boyfriend while we built our dream house. Fixing things is easy for me. So’s cooking. Baking? Not so much. Fixing broken and damaged kids? Not in my wheelhouse. But sometimes we don’t have a say in how our lives will change in an instant.

He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

I tried a permanent relationship with a man I loved. I thought I was up to the task, and that we were going to be together forever. But when he wanted to adopt, or find a surrogate, or become a foster parent, I panicked. I didn’t see myself giving up my carefree lifestyle to care for a little thing that would demand so much attention. And I thought I got away scot-free. Until karma caught up with me. So can I do a relationship now? Or am I still the selfish SOB everyone thinks I am?

How does he act around children he doesn’t know?

Children? I don’t do children. Not a thing. Unless my half-brother dies and leaves me guardian to his beloved son. Suddenly I have to step up. Am I up for the task?

What is he like first thing in the morning?

I’m a jump-out-of-bed fully awake and ready to start my day. Good thing now I’m facing being responsible for another human being. A little one who depends on me.

    Can he use chopsticks?

I’m urbane and love multicultural food, so I’m proficient at chopsticks.

Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?

I drink black coffee. Unless I’m super nervous and trying to buy time – then I request low-fat milk and artificial sweetener.

What apps would he have on his phone?

Apps? Anything to do with business. And health. After turning forty-five, I took a good look in the mirror and decided to take my health seriously. Even former friends who are mad at me have noticed I’m fitter than I’ve been for a long time.

    Android or iPhone?

iPhone because I’m on call with my business all the time. And it’s great when I need to lend the phone to a certain sexy counselor who needs to make a video call with his parents at Christmas.

    Beard or clean-shaven?

Clean-shaven. I’m a high-powered executive, and it’s expected of a successful entrepreneur such as myself.

    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?

    A tattoo? Never. Absolutely.

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

I love my little sports car – it’s great for getting around downtown Vancouver. Except when I face becoming a family man and suddenly, I’m considering getting a hybrid SUV.

    Recycle or toss?

Despite appearing as someone disinterested in environmental issues, I’m very focused on keeping the earth as pristine as possible. I’m a recycle all the way kind of guy.

Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!

Read the #RomanticThriller Saving Euphoria (Book 2 in the Euphoria trilogy) by C Becker @cbeckerauthor #RLFblog #RomanticSuspenseThe aftermath of a deadly fire leaves many questions in C. Becker’s new romantic thriller, Saving Euphoria. The surviving spouse must decide who to trust so she can discover the truth behind her husband’s death.

C Becker, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Saving Euphoria.

    Saving Euphoria by C Becker

    Genre Romantic Thriller
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Hailey Langley and her children struggle to cope with the shocking and mysterious death of her husband Mark. Her teenaged son is rebelling, and Hailey is dealing with physical and mental challenges as well.

Tom Parker, Hailey’s former partner from the Special Crimes Agency, comes back into her life. He warns her to trust no one even as he tries to rekindle the flame that connects them.

Everyone has secrets, even Parker, and some of those from the past threaten to destroy the present. Hailey fights to move forward after losing Mark, but she needs to figure out if she can trust Parker and risk taking another chance on love.

What’s in your character’s pockets, backpack, or purse?

What does your character always carry?

Hailey always carries a bottle of anti-anxiety pills in her purse. Since her husband passed away in a fire, she is trying to keep herself together as best as she can for her children. With different men showing up at her door, she never knows when she’s going to need one.

Is there an item your character carries for good luck and if so, what is it?

Hailey carries a rose petal in her purse next to a mysterious picture she found in her husband’s car. The petal brings her security and hope. Her husband Mark used to bring her roses after an argument. Their last argument was a doozy. He never returned, but she kept one of the rose petals from the bouquet that arrived the day of the fire.

Does your character carry money and if so, in what form (cash, credit, etc.)?

Money’s tight for Hailey. As an adjunct professor, her income is limited. The little amount of cash she carries is spent on counseling fees for her kids’ sessions and daughter’s dance classes. Hailey uses a credit card for groceries and gas and pays the bills with a bottle of wine at the end of the month.

What does your character carry related to a job or calling?

Hailey carries an attaché case to transfer her lecture notes and students’ paperwork to and from the university. With all of her distractions and memory issues having the attaché case is helpful to keep something in order. The bag is large enough to stuff her lunch bag inside, too—as long as she doesn’t forget to pack her lunch!

What is one thing your character wouldn’t be caught dead carrying?

Hailey won’t be caught dead carrying a street drug. Her first son died from drugs and now her other son is hanging around with the wrong crowd. She has reason to freak out when she finds a mysterious pill in the hallway.

Does your character ever carry things for other people? (like a mom with toys, etc.) Hailey has the biggest beach bag for her kids’ swimwear, sunscreen, beach towels and flipflops when they go on outings.

Questions for the Character to Answer About the Author

What does your author always carry?

    1. Becker won’t leave home without her purse and cell phone!

What does your author dislike carrying but has to?

Extra plastic bags to pick up after her dog when she drives to the park.

How organized is your author’s backpack / purse?

Her purse is a total study in clutter. I don’t know how she crams so much into such a small bag.

What does your author prefer to use when it comes to items like backpacks / purses?

Purses. Bigger is better, up to a limit. She doesn’t want to look like she’s carrying a suitcase onto an airplane.
