    changing a woman’s mind.

    About the Character

    Name: Kelly Mancer
    Age: 28
    Gender: Female
    Birthplace: Dallas,
    Texas
    Profession: Bookstore clerk
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human):
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include
any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: slight build, olive complexion,
tiger-like eyes, long, black, thick, straight hair.
    Who is the significant
    other in your character’s life?
    Alex Gentry
    Does she scrape by, live
    comfortably, live extravagantly?
Kelly lives frugally. She scrapes by due to circumstances beyond
her control. She doesn’t ask for much, and she certainly doesn’t expect much.
    Does she have children?
Kelly has been blessed with a most precocious five year old daughter,
who is much too old for her age. The child tends to spout out the most inappropriate
words believing no one hears them, until Alex Gentry finally enlightens her. Her
response? “Are you gonna tell on me?”
    What past event causes
    your character the most fear?
The corporation Kelly originally worked for was the target of
a major takeover by Gentry Acquisitions. When Alex Gentry (lead takeover) had to
leave town for a meeting on a Friday afternoon just before the end of the merger,
it left Kelly in a vulnerable situation that not only caught her by surprise but
    changed her life dramatically.
    What is your character’s
biggest need at the beginning of the story?
To provide for her daughter, Taylor; keep her safe.
    What is your hero’s biggest
    hopes and dreams?
She doesn’t want much. Perhaps a small house with a big enough
bathroom to accommodate a bathtub with large clawed feet.
When (if) he lies or is
    upset, what gives him away?
What a most apropos question. This whole story is based on the
lies connected between all the players. Why does Alex insist Kelly and he marry?
In current times, marriage is not a criteria to have children. In their case, however,
the crux is much more crucial.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

    Was there anything your
writer discovered about you that was a surprise to one or both of you?
Not so much about me, specifically, as Taylor. Taylor
must have given her fits on more than one occasion. She set Alex on his heels too.
It was a most entertaining journey.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
I believe she truly loves to write. In some cases the words have
flowed from her fingers to the keyboard in a most impressive fashion. Just ask Lorianne
of Maybe It’s You, the previous Bloomington Series story. She wrote it in four months.
    What do you wish your
    writer would write next?
Well, I wish she complete book four, Little Kenny’s story. He
has a fascinating history. I know she has a really strong start.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your writer?
Thank you so much for bringing Alex and me back together. I couldn’t
have chosen a more perfect father for Taylor.
Now, if only his mother would respect our boundaries regarding a dog.

    About the Character

    Name: Carolyn Woods
    Age: 33
    Gender: Female
    Birthplace: New York
    Profession: Detective
Describe her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include
any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Carolyn is of average height,
has brown hair, doesn’t wear a lot of makeup but when she fixes herself up she looks
    good.
    Who is the significant
    other in your character’s life?
Carolyn has two significant others: Jack Heart and Evan Jones.
    How does your heroine
    dress?
Carolyn dresses down, usually in street dress most often due
to her detective work in the seedy side of the city and wanting to blend in. However,
she likes flirty dresses if going on a date.
    How educated is this character?
Is she book smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
Carolyn has a Bachelor’s Degree but is mostly street smart. She
    handles a gun well too!
    Does she scrape by, live
    comfortably, live extravagantly?
Carolyn scrapes by and lives on a third floor walk-up in the
city. She also drives a car that is falling apart.
What is your character’s viewpoint on wealth? Not necessary,
nice to have, important, obtain at all costs?
Carolyn is not impressed by wealth. Although she would like to
have a car that wouldn’t break down, in general she judges people on their personality
and their moral center rather than on their wealth. Her job brings many wealthy
as well as non-wealthy characters across her door.
    What special skills does
    your character rely on?
Carolyn relies on her gut instinct a lot. She has to in her profession.
What does she have a knack
    for doing?
Carolyn has a knack for finding trouble easily.
    Are any of her skills
a source of pride? Embarrassment? Which ones and why?
Carolyn is proud of her work and her skills and feels like she
and her career can stand up to anyone in a professional that is dominated by men.
She is occasionally embarrassed when she is attracted to men. Then she suddenly
becomes a bit of a klutz.
    How well does she know
    the neighbors? Coworkers?
Carolyn runs into Jack Heart often as they are both detectives
and sometimes accidentally end up on the same case. There is an air of competition
there, but they also help each other out.
    What inner doubt causes
    your character the most difficulty?
Carolyn’s self-confidence is low once you get past her defenses.
She’s always in some state of worry inside her head. She also self-reflects often
    negatively about herself.
    What past event causes
    your character the most fear?
Carolyn has had a lot of cases that have put her personally in
danger, so she is always trying to prevent that.
    What is your character’s
biggest need at the beginning of the story?
She’s just trying to solve the case on the surface but underneath
she has doubts about her relationship.
    How does your character
    handle challenges?
Carolyn tackles challenges head on! Sometimes she tackles them
too fast without thinking which lands her in trouble.
    What is your heroine’s
    breaking point?
Disillusionment with people too often can break her. She requires
at least one good person in her life to be her rock and her center that she can
    count on.
    How emotionally expressive
    is your character to others?
Carolyn says what’s on her mind. She doesn’t hold back. Sometimes
that alienates people. Others like her honesty.

I wish the writer wouldn’t tell others my inner thoughts sometimes.

Character Sketch: Big Mike from Bad Vibes @JDFaver_Author #RLFblog #Suspense

    Bad Vibes
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
Darla came on deck clad in black body armor, her copper top hidden
under a black Sheriff’s Department cap with the bill turned backwards. She had her
M-14 slung over her shoulder and a pack of extra magazines.
    Damn! She looks so hot!
    Like Badass Barbie…
5 star Review~ “J.D. creates two characters in Mike and
Darla that you’ll be rooting for while simultaneously ratcheting up the suspense
to the breaking point. The Texas
    Coast will *never* be the
same by the time these two get done…”
When government agent Mike “The Iceman” Burke invades
her South Padre Island turf, Deputy Darla Calhoun
is assigned as liaison officer to his team. Her skills as a sniper come in handy
when a gang of human traffickers strikes close to home, kidnapping local women including
    her best friend.
Darla is recovering from her husband’s suicide and trying to
be a good parent to her twin sons. The ICE assignment takes her out of her misery
and plunges her into a dangerous mission and a steamy affair.
Mike and Darla tear up and down the Intracoastal
Waterway in search of the kidnappers and the captive women while Rafael
and Javier conduct their own investigation. Will they rescue the captive women or
will the kidnappers slaughter them as they have done in the past? Two teams race
to find the answers before it’s too late.

    About the Character

Name: Michael Thomas Burke (Mike/Big Mike)
    Age: 32
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: Maine
Profession: Federal agent on loan to ICE (Immigration & Customs
    Enforcement)
Ethnicity/Species (if not human): White male human
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include
    any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: 6’5″ muscular frame;
Tanned from the sun; Mikes most startling feature are his silvery-blue eyes and
his ability to appear emotionless, earning him the title> The Iceman
    Who is the significant
    other in your character’s life?
Mike has been a complete loner, until his ICE assignment on the
    lower Texas coast
throws him into close proximity with a petite, red-headed local deputy assigned
to his team as liaison officer. Darla raises his blood pressure and his libido from
the moment they meet. She rousts him in his undercover disguise as a waterfront
bum, disarms him and takes him into custody, which first alerts local law enforcement
that there is a federal investigation into human trafficking using the Intra-coastal
    Waterway.
    How does your hero dress?
Mike is known for his love of Hawaiian shirts, the louder the
better. A pair of cargo shorts and flip-flops complete his outfit.
    If you could only hear
this character’s voice (but not see him) what characteristic would identify him?
Mike has a deep, raspy voice. He doesn’t waste words, sometimes
barking out clipped orders. He’s a man’s man and not a ladies man, so he isn’t skilled
at “girlfriend-speak”. Fortunately, his lady love is the only girl among
seven brothers, so she can decipher his sometimes brusque verbage, and is also able
to give him a smack upside his head when he needs it.
    What special skills does
    your character rely on?
Mike is a former SEAL and is skilled in diving and underwater
demolition. He is very intelligent and able to think on his feet.
What does he have a knack
    for doing?
Mike is a great guy, but he has a knack of pissing people off.
Before long, he has Darla’s brother and one of her fellow deputies ready to throw
    down with him.
    What is your character’s
    family like?
Mike’s mother abandoned him at an early age to be brought up
by his grandfather, who was a carpenter. He likes to work with his hands when not
blowing up drug lords in Central America. He has
no living family and immerses himself into his current assignment, whatever that
might be. The ICE assignment, where he has to work with the local deputy, Darla
Calhoun, shakes up his usual mode of operation. He tries to protect her, which just
irks the daylights out of her, since she sees herself as a completely competent
    member of the team.
    Does this character see
morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
Mike has a very definite sense of right and wrong. He sees himself
as the defender of the weak and the one to apprehend the bad guys. There is no try.
    There is do or die.
    How do others perceive
your character based upon looks? How true is this assumption?
Darla’s brother, Calvin, a large, powerful man himself, describes
Mike as “Big Mutha’.” Darla is very attracted to him, but also doesn’t
want to get hurt when he moves on to his next assignment.
    What past event causes
    your character the most fear?
Mike most definitely has abandonment issues, which he has dealt
with in the past by not becoming too attached and by being the one to move on. However,
for the first time, he sees himself settling down in this Texas coastal town and taking on a family, Darla
    and her twin sons.
    What is your hero’s biggest
    hopes and dreams?
At the outset, his goal is to rescue the kidnapped women and
destroy the human trafficking gang. As he works with Darla, he begins to dream about
nesting with her and providing for her and her sons.
    What is your hero’s biggest
    personal flaw?
Mike has absolutely horrible communication skills when it comes
    to romance.
    How does your character
    handle challenges?
Head on! Fix it! Kill it! Move forward! Accomplish the objective!
    How emotionally expressive
    is your character to others?
Have I mentioned how totally inept he is
    at expressing his emotions?

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
Hell if I know? I’m a man of action. I don’t have time to sit
    around writing pretty little stories.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
She had no right to go prying into my life, especially when I
found the love of my life while on assignment. I’m a very private guy.
    What do you wish your
    writer would write next?
I know her books about the Texas coastal area are evolving, and there are
plenty of characters to write about. But, seriously. . . just write them as they
happen. Chloe and Rafael have hired me to update an old Victorian house that comes
with its own set of mysteries, like the skeletons I dredge up in the murky fish
    pond. Write about that.
    What other character from
your book do you think your writer should write a book about? Care to tell us why?
She’s written about my buds, Rafael, Javier and Zach, but our
stories are unfolding, so I guess she should just keep telling our tales as they
    occur.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your writer?
Thanks for pairing me up with such a feisty and adorable love
    interest.

    About the Author

    J.D. Faver lives near Houston,
    Texas. She writes steamy contemporary
romance and romantic thrillers/mystery/suspense. She loves to kill people…on virtual
paper, that is. Although she writes daily, she still finds time to enjoy family
and friends. She is a foodie and an adventurous cook. Determined to preserve generations
of family recipes, she is publishing a series of cookbooks entitled A Texan in the

Gardening is another passion (and linked to the food thing) since
she has an orchard of fruit trees and berry bushes/vines in her back yard. Tomatoes
and other veggies round out her kitchen garden.
All other interests (painting, drawing, sewing, quilting, crocheting,
weaving, stained glass and pottery) have taken a back seat since they require hands-on
participation which is difficult if your fingers are always on the keyboard.
An active member of several Houston

She is owned by two cats and a small, yappy rescue dog. As a

    and elderly/disabled individuals.
She would rather be sailing or on a beach somewhere, but if not,
you can probably find her with her fingers on a keyboard, pouring word images onto
the virtual films playing in her head.

    About the Character

    Name: Warren Murphy
    Age: 38 years old
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: Texas
    Profession: Ranch Boss
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human): American
Describe his body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include
any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Brown eyes, brown hair,
6′ and about 200 lbs. of solid muscle (the kind from working on a ranch day in and
    day out).
Who is the significant other in your character’s life (hero)?
    Amber Jenkins
    How does your hero dress?
Warren is a jeans and button
up shirt or t-shirt kind of guy. He doesn’t have many ‘fancy duds’ in his wardrobe
and you’ll never find him out of his cowboy boots. Well, except for when he’s in
    bed.
    How educated is this character?
Is he book smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
    Warren was not college educated.
He finished high school and spent most of his younger years learning the ropes on
the ranches. His wisdom comes from years of hard work and he offers the type of
intelligence that his leading lady cannot find in the college boys she meets while
    away at school.
    What is your character’s
viewpoint on wealth? Not necessary, nice to have, important, obtain at all costs?
    Warren lives comfortably and
sets a little bit of his income aside every month, but he doesn’t live his life
by money or what he can gain. His greatest loves in life cannot be bought with a
    dollar.
    What is your character’s
family like? Is he close to family?
He doesn’t have a family. He is pretty much a loner, and close
to his boss as though the man was a father.
    What inner doubt causes
    your character the most difficulty?
His love for Amber has been unrelenting for as long as he can
remember. He does his best to push her away, but she always seems to sneak back
into his subconscious. It is a constant struggle for him, as he works for her grandfather
and is so close to him.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
Probably because I’m a man who wears many hats, but rarely shows
    his true self.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
She – against my wishes – showed everyone my one weakness… Amber.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
She’s a goofy gal that one. I think she writes to make sense
out of the voices in her head.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your writer?
She’s pretty bashful so she probably wouldn’t admit this herself,
    but she’s pretty awesome!

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

    Why
do you think your writer chose to write about you?
Mary had no choice. I pestered her until she
    gave in and started writing
    What
do you wish your writer had not told others about you?
She did blab about my premonitions, but i guess
    she had to.
    Why
do you think your writer loves to write?
Mary has stories to tell and voices inside her
head. She’s been telling stories for so long I knew she had to tell mine. She listened
to me instead of making up a story.
    What
do you wish your writer would write next?
Mary needs to write a book about my baby sister
Esther. She’s a pistol and a strong southern woman.
    What
other character from your book do you think your writer should write a book about?
    Care to tell us why?
Mary has a book about my brother she needs to
send out again or publish it herself. My brother is a great guy who saves lives.
He’s an undercover cop. It’s a good story, too!
    Is
there anything you’d like to say to your writer?
    Thanks, Mary, for
finding us a publisher. I was leery when you sent my story to a publisher specializing
in erotica. I never thought about my story and Brit’s as erotic fiction, though
we have a VERY erotic relationship!

    Author Bio

Mary has been a storyteller for as long as she can remember.
She made up stories for the other children and created the details for their “play
like” or “let’s pretend” games. Sometimes the details were so real
    they scared Mary.
    Mary was born in Augusta,
    Georgia to two eighteen-year
olds. Her daddy, a young Mississippi man, was stationed
at Camp Gordon and fell in love with a young girl
    selling flowers.
    Mary graduated from Mercer University
where her mama worked in the library. Her mama started working there when Mary’s
daddy went to college to become a preacher and a teacher. Mary taught language arts
for 15 years, perfect for her BA in English. Her M.Ed in Counseling served her well
during her years as a school counselor and as a teacher later.
Now she tutors, teaches writers, and edits. Her inner English
teacher loves the editing part. Mary helped her husband photograph hundreds of weddings.
Her daughter is her cover artist now. Danielle was raised in the photography business.
She doesn’t read Mary’s books. Something about TMI.

    One Night in Santiago
    Author: Audra North
    Genre: Contemporary Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings G, PG, PG13, R): R
Lily Stanton’s vacation goes from bad to worse when a storm strands
her in a foreign country, arguing with an arrogant–and very sexy–stranger over
    the last available hotel room.
Successful CEO Bruno Komarov wasn’t expecting the gorgeous woman
checking in at the reception desk to challenge him over a room. Even more surprising,
    he actually enjoys their exchange.
But when Lily proposes a compromise–she’ll take the bed and
he can sleep on the couch–Bruno pushes his attraction aside and assures himself
that this can remain strictly business. After all, they’re both adults capable of
keeping their hands to themselves. They’ll share the room, get a good night’s sleep,
and be off to their respective destinations in the morning.
What could possibly happen in just one night?

    About the Character

    Name: Bruno Komarov
    Age: 37
    Gender: male
    Birthplace: Santa Rosa, California
Profession: head of Komarov Enterprises, an import and distribution
    business
Ethnicity/Species (if not human): Russian, Spanish, and Incan
    descent
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include
any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: 6’1″, lean and muscular,
about 170 pounds, dark brown hair
    Who is the significant
other in your character’s life (hero/heroine)?
    Lily Stanton
    How does your hero/heroine
    dress?
For business meetings, he always wears a suit and tie. When he’s
at the family vineyard, he likes to wear sturdy clothes that are good for kneeling
in the soil or helping to rig up machinery. And when he’s by himself at home, he
loves to wear sweats and worn T-shirts…but don’t tell anyone.
    What is your character’s
    family like?
Bruno’s family is close-knit but not interfering. Usually, they
respect his privacy. His mother, father, and three younger sisters all live in California,
as well. Last year, his father suffered a heart attack and decided to retire as
head of the family company. Bruno took over the position.
    Does he/she have children?
He doesn’t have any children, but he would love to have them.
His sisters are married and each has at least one child. In fact, they’re all pregnant
    at the moment!
    What is your character’s
biggest need at the beginning of the story?
    Bruno’s flight out of Santiago
was cancelled due to the weather. He needs to get home soon because he has work
obligations that he has to fulfill.
    How does your character
    handle challenges?
Bruno tends to tackle things head-on and believes there is a
solution to any problem. He says what he thinks and he takes action when necessary,
but he does it with grace.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
Honestly? I’m not really sure. I’m not a rock star or a political
powerhouse or a billionaire. Komarov Enterprises does well, but it’s not like I’m
going to go out and buy an NFL team or anything. I’m a pretty good ballroom dancer,
but something tells me that’s not why Audra thought I’d be a compelling hero. I’m
not exciting. I’m husband material. [Bruno shrugs and laughs] Maybe that’s exactly
    why she chose me.
    Was there anything your
writer discovered about you that was a surprise to one or both of you?
I didn’t realize just how much I needed someone to love. I mean,
I knew I didn’t want to be single forever, but until Audra put Lily in my path,
I had no idea that…well, let’s just say I was surprised by more than just my physical
    attraction to Lily.
    What do you wish your
    writer would write next?
Actually, it’s not a wish as much as a pretty solid plan. I happen
to be close enough with my writer to know that Greg Stanton and Julie Stanton are
getting their own books in the next few months. Greg is Lily’s older brother and
    Julie is her younger sister.
    What other character from
your book do you think your writer should write a book about? Care to tell us why?
I think Lily’s mother should get her happily ever after. Lily’s
father passed away many years ago and Mrs. Stanton hasn’t dated anyone since then.
I haven’t met Lily’s mom yet, but anyone who can raise an incredible person like
Lily deserves to find love again.
