Is It True: The Lady and Her Quill by Ruth A Casie @RuthACasie #RLFblog #HistoricalRomance
Two authors take on a writing challenge based on a mystery taken out of the headlines. Ruth A Casie’s historical romance, The Lady and Her Quill. Her head kept telling her to stop loving him, but her heart couldn’t let him go.
Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Ruth A.Casie. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.
The Lady and Her Quill in the series The Ladies of Sommer-by-the-Sea
Genre Historical Romance, Regency Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
Her mind kept telling her to stop loving him, but her heart couldn’t let him go.
Renowned author Lady Alicia Hartley has lost her muse after a bad review. She blames it all on the author JC Melrose. A chance encounter with a handsome, witty Justin Caulfield has her heart racing, and her muse seemingly back. Is he her savior or her worst nightmare?
He didn’t see the turbulent ocean. He was too busy dealing with a different tempest.
The recently retired Captain Justin Caulfield is facing his own demons. As gifted author JC Melrose, his stories honor men who died at the hand of one man. His only focus is to avenge their deaths, that is, until he meets and falls in love with Lady Alicia.
The two authors take on a writing challenge based on a story of stolen gold taken from the newspaper headlines all to determine the better writer. While researching the story, Lady Alicia is captured by the thieves’ ringleader. Can Lady Alicia turn this mystery into an award-winning story? Can Justin save his real-life heroine? Can they both overcome their own challenges for a happily ever after?
Is it true:
this is your first book?
Each one I write seems like my first one.
this book is part of a series?
Lady Alicia has demanded that I write a story about each of the women who graduated from the Sommer-by-the-Sea Female Seminary. So far there is Lady Alicia, of course, and Lady Patrice, and Lady Kathryn. I hope the other aren’t shy.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
I did seem to be cursed with doubt and concern that cost me some sleep, but in the end it was just indigestion.
you did research for this book?
Hell, yes. (I bow my head in shame.)
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
I didn’t plan it that way, but the smuggler is way less then human!
this book has more than one genre?
The story is a historical romance that takes place in 1814, the regency era. With a kidnapping, grand theft, and treason at hand I would say this story is filled with mystery and suspense.
you speak more than one language?
Esyay!
you grew up where you live now?
No, I did not. I miss the long walks on the beach. The parachute jump and Steeplechase.
you love to read?
I cannot tell a lie. YES!!! I have so many books on my kindle that I spend a lot of time trying to pick what to read next.
you are never late?
Me, no. My husband, always.
you love pizza?
A thick crust, lots of cheese, and sometimes mushrooms. I won’t give it up. When I’m being more weight conscious, I use a portobello mushroom in place of the dough. It’s a close send.
you love sushi?
Hai… Please be impressed. That’s all the Japanese I know other than sushi and sashimi.
you have a pet?
Only a few pet peeves!

Hi – I’m Ruth A Casie and I write historical and contemporary romance. You might be wondering what I’m about. Sit back and let me tell you.
I’m happiest when I’m telling stories either chatting in a group or writing them down. I love to put my hero and heroine in tough situations and dare them to work it out—together, always together. They haven’t disappointed. Oh, they complain but in the end their love and relationships are stronger than ever.
Here are five things you probably don’t know about me.
1. I filled my passport up in one year.
2. I have three series. The Druid Knight stories are a historical time travel series. The Stelton Legacy is historical fantasy about the seven sons of a seventh son. Havenport Romances are stories set in a small coast Rhode Island town. I also write stories in the connected world the Pirates of Britannia.
3. I did a rap to “How Many Trucks Can a Tow Truck Tow If a Tow Truck Could Tow Trucks.”
4. When I cook I dance.
5. My Sudoku book is in the bathroom. I’m not saying anything else about that.
My stories feature strong women and the men who deserve them, endearing flaws and all. Their stories will keep you turning the pages until the end. I hope my stories become your favorite adventures.

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
A sudden summer storm drives Miss Sophia Selkirk into a confectioner’s shop filled with the delicious scents of ice cream and candies. Just as she settled in with her glass dish of delectable ice cream, a shadow falls over the table: the fiancé she jilted without explanation two weeks before has appeared. Can she trust him enough to reveal the secret that sent her fleeing from the only man she has ever loved?
Simon Warren’s entire life was jolted the night before the wedding when Sophia sent a brief note informing him she could not marry him. Now, he has tracked her down to this small confectioner’s shop, where over two dishes of ice cream, they will grapple with a secret scandal from the past and discover whether their love can overcome all obstacles.
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
I make a delicious enchiladas casserole that my daughter and niece love- super easy and yummy!
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
A tie between Mr. Darcy of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice or Mr. Rochester of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre! I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention Karen Marie Moning’s highlanders (I’ve been a sucker for highlanders ever since I watched Highlander: the Series).
What’s your favorite hashtag to watch on Twitter?
I keep an eye on the #historicalromance hashtag, so I can easily find new books that are coming out!
Describe the perfect vacation.
The perfect vacation would be visiting LEGOland Florida with my nine year old daughter Emma! We would eat ice cream, play with LEGOs, and go on all the rides!
What are your hobbies?
When I’m not writing, I enjoy swimming, reading (historical romance of course but also other genres like sci fi), walking outdoors in Southwest Florida, and visiting sites like the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and our beautiful beaches.

Anna, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about My Lord, My Rogue.
My Lord, My Rogue by Anna St Claire
Genre Historical romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
Entangled in a web of danger, espionage, and deception, can he find love with the woman he thought long dead? Or will the danger deprive them of a chance for love and happiness?
Lady Honora Radcliff was betrothed to the most sought-after man of the Season— just not the man she loved. Too much champagne and too many dances with a handsome stranger leaves her life in tatters and she finds herself married to an abusive man whose only interest is the dowry her father refuses to release. Desperate to save her life and that of her unborn child, she fakes her death and disappears.
Lord Benjamin Crewe, the Marquess of Willington, planned to enjoy the Christmastide season relaxing. Instead, he accepts a dangerous assignment from the Crown and while working it, comes face to face with the woman he always wished he had married. Only she has been thought dead for three years.
Needing answers, he pursues her at the same time a treacherous enemy of England surfaces, and the two of them become tangled in a web of danger, espionage, and deception.
Can Honora and Benjamin survive the danger in which they find themselves and gain a chance for love and happiness?
Why did you write this book?
I wrote this book as a follow up to “The Duke’s Golden Rings.” It was one of those nagging stories that wanted to make itself known. So, I wrote it down before I forgot any of the details I had imagined.
What is your favorite genre to read?
My favorite genre is Regency historical romance. I think it must be because of the social contrasts and the changes in play at the time.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
My favorite fictional character is Santa Claus, although while I recognize him as fiction, in my heart he lives. I am one of those that believe.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on my second book in the Dragonblade Lyon’s Den world. It’s called, “The Heart of a Lyon.”
What books will we see from you in coming months?
On March 18, my third book on The Rakes of Mayhem series will release— just three days after “My Lord, My Rogue.”
I will also release “The Heart of a Lyon” later in the year. In a week, I will begin work on my contribution to “The Wedding Wager,” an anthology with a unique premise that will be releasing this fall.

Anna St Claire is a big believer that nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself. She sprinkles her stories with laughter, romance, mystery and lots of possibilities, adhering to the belief that goodness and love will win the day.
Anna is both an avid reader author of American and British historical romance. She and her husband live in Charlotte, North Carolina with their two dogs and often, their two beautiful granddaughters, who live nearby. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Mimi—all life roles that Anna St Claire relishes and feels blessed to still enjoy. And she loves her pets – dogs and cats alike, and often inserts them into her books as secondary characters.
Anna relocated from New York to the Carolinas as a child. Her mother, a retired English and History teacher, always encouraged Anna’s interest in writing, after discovering short stories she would write in her spare time.
As a child, she loved mysteries and checked out every Encyclopedia Brown story that came into the school library. Before too long, her fascination with history and reading led her to her first historical romance—Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With The Wind, now a treasured, but weathered book from being read multiple times. The day she discovered Kathleen Woodiwiss,’ books, Shanna and Ashes In The Wind, Anna became hooked. She read every historical romance that came her way and dreams of writing her own historical romances took seed.
Today, her focus is primarily the Regency and Civil War eras, although Anna enjoys almost any period in American and British history.
