Down at the Shore by Karen Cino

    Genre Women's Fiction Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG 17

Brooke Dascoli is in a relationship that's going nowhere. She moves into the beach house her grandmother left her at the Jersey Shore and forms a friendship with her neighbors, Flo Meadows and Jane Cummings. Flo carries around a huge secret that has haunted her since her first marriage and Jane is having a hard time dealing with a cheating husband who died shortly after their divorce. Together each woman shares their past indiscretions and future dreams, while dealing with loss, renewal and starting over.

Let's chat about what to eat.

First, what is your name and how old are you?

I'm Brooke Dascoli and I'm 50 years old.

What is the time period in which you live?

    Present time.

    What is your favorite meal?

Oh gosh! I love Caesar Salad, especially with grilled chicken and an antipasto tray.

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

Absolutely. I will never eat lamb, octopus and salad with blue cheese dressing.

Tell us about a meal or food that says "home" to you.

You're asking me questions about my favorite subject, food. Lasagna, eggplant parmigiana and eggplant rollitini.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

    Simple. I don't eat it.

What is the worst meal you've ever eaten?

I had dinner at a client's house who added ketchup to her spaghetti sauce.

What is the best meal you've ever eaten?

I'm not a big steak eater, but I went to Peter Luger's Steak House in Brooklyn, New York and ate a steak that melted in my mouth. I've never had a steak like that ever again. I guess it's another trip to Peter Luger's.

Growing up, who was the best cook in your family?

My grandmother. She cooked old school Italian. There was always Italian bread with every meal. When she cooked, I always snuck a forkful from the pot. (The calories don't count when you're standing and picking from the pot.)

Have you ever eaten military style rations, and if so, what was your favorite?

Never ate like that. There was always a spread at my parent's and I always put out a spread.

If you cook, what kind of food do you like to prepare?

I try to keep it simple, especially in the summer. I get more creative in the winter making stews, meatloaf and chili. But in the summer it is always the quickest thing I can make on the barbecue.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

I very really eat breakfast. I do have breakfast for dinner many nights and I can do French toast for lunch. But eating breakfast is a big no.

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

I always have snacks. I keep pita chips, grapes, yogurt, almonds and yogurt covered pretzels on hand.

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

In the winter I have at least two cups of coffee in the morning. During the summer months, there are many times that I totally skip the coffee. If I do, it's usually a half of a cup.

    Favorite alcoholic beverage?

    Woo hoo! Prosecco.

    Favorite non-alcoholic beverage?

    Unsweetened ice tea with lemon.

What do you grab when there's no time for a regular meal?

A protein bar. Sometimes a piece of Italian bread with butter.

Who are your favorite people to share meals with?

My friends Flo and Jane who I met when I moved down here. We always find the time to eat together a few times a week to catch up.

Tell us what your author eats or drinks while writing about you.

My author is always with a glass of Prosecco when she writing about me. I've caught her many times had a half of sweet and low into her wine glass because it isn't sweet enough. She also likes eating cotton candy grapes.

If your author has a pet, what does she feed the animal?

She feeds her two cats Fancy Feast. But when she makes herself a turkey sandwich, she gives them a half of slice each sliced into pieces.

Same question for you. What do you feed your pet/s?

    I don't have any pets.

What Susan Baer eats for dinner, from Baer and the Three Goldilocks by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #Contemporary #Romance #AdultFairyTale

Dee S Knight’s Baer seeks her “just right” in this adult fairy tale with three golden-haired guys. One’s too rough, one’s too soft. Can the third Goldilocks be “just right?”

Dee, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your hero, but first, tell us about the book.

Baer and the Three Goldilocks by Dee S Knight

    Genre Contemporary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Another erotic fairy tale with Princess Katherine and Prince Cole.

Susan Baer is not only a successful businesswoman and founder of Baer Hugs, health centers for women, she’s also beautiful. But she hasn’t always been that way. She’d spent her teen years lost, lonely and anxious, wondering if she would ever find a place to fit. Now, with those years behind her, she longs to find her special person. Though she’s not the overweight, nearsighted girl with braces anymore, she’s still lonely and there are no prospects in sight to share a happy ever after.

Suddenly, three golden-haired men come into her life. All successful, all gorgeous. And all with their own unique problems. One is too rough and hard in his treatment; one is too soft and wants her to take charge. The last is…well, let’s just say he’s not available.

Will Susan ever find the one man who’s “just right?”

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

Susan Baer. I’m in my mid-thirties

What is the time period in which you live?

I live in contemporary Richmond, Virginia

    What is your favorite meal?

I love cheeseburgers, but I also enjoy a lean steak cooked to medium. And baked potatoes, and French fries. Lord, do I ever love McDonald’s French fries. And I adore a good pork loin roast, with sweet potatoes and apple sauce. Yum!

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

Liver or beets, take your pick. To me they are equally horrid.

Tell us about a meal or food that says “home” to you.

Pot roast. My mom used to make the best—chuck steak resting on potatoes, carrots, onions and cooked until the meat falls apart. She made gravy with the drippings and dinner rolls or biscuits. Just thinking of that meal makes me warm all over.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

To tell the truth, I try to avoid that situation if possible. I like enough types of food that I don’t experiment a lot. I’m kinda in a food rut and I like it.

Growing up, who was the best cook in your family?

My mom. We almost never ate out—she prepared every meal. It’s a testament to her cooking that I was overweight into adulthood. So even though I went overboard up in that question about favorite meal (foods), I don’t eat those foods as often or in the quantities that I used to. Today I moderate when it comes to meats and grains. I miss Mom’s meals but I like how I feel (and look) now too much to go back to it.

If you cook, what kind of food do you like to prepare?

I love cooking vegetables, and though I’m not a vegetarian, I only eat meat three or four times a week. I enjoy any vegetable I can roast, I often prepare Cremini mushroom “steaks” or omelets. When it comes to meat, I grill a small filet mignon, pan fry medallions of pork tenderloin with sliced onions, and sauté a chicken breast with roasted tomatoes and stuffed mushroom caps.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

No, I always eat breakfast. I own several fitness centers for women and I leave time in each day for my own workouts. To perform well, you have to feed the body, and that includes a good breakfast. I usually have a fruit smoothie (I like strawberry and banana) and a hard-boiled egg. If I’m on the road, I often order oatmeal and a fruit cup. And always coffee!

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

I try to eat three reasonably sized meals and snack in between with healthy things like fruit or a handful of nuts, portioned out in freezer bags that I keep in my purse or desk drawer. I like pumpkin seeds, too. And plain yogurt,

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

I love coffee but I don’t drink more than three cups a day, usually. I take it black. I only drink tea once in a while, unless I don’t feel well. Then it’s tea and no coffee. Knock wood, that doesn’t happen too often.

    Favorite alcoholic beverage?

A Chardonnay wine, but I don’t drink very much. Drinking “wine” is what got me into trouble!

Who are your favorite people to share meals with?

I have a fun bunch of women working with me, and one man—Duncan. I’ve come to rely on him more than I ever thought possible, and in more ways than keeping things straight in the office. He’s my favorite dining companion.

Tell us what your author eats or drinks while writing about you.

Dee likes to compartmentalize. She doesn’t eat or drink when she’s writing. She has food/drink time and writing time and never the twain shall meet.

If your author has a pet, what does she feed the animal?

She had a couple of cats years ago but she doesn’t have a pet now. When she had them, she fed them dry and wet cat food, and whatever ham she could grab from her after clawing her way up her back and over her shoulder. Fortunately, she wasn’t a very big (heavy) cat.

Same question for you. What do you feed your pet/s?

    No pets. ;(

  • Science Fiction Romance,  What's for Dinner

What Ari Jade eats for dinner, from Warrior Priest by Kate Hill @katehillromance #RLFblog #SciFi #Romance

Coming Soon: Warrior Priest by Kate Hill @compbeastsblog #RLFblog #ScienceFictionRomance #SciFiIn Kate Hill’s science fiction romance, Warrior Priest, will a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune find unconditional love with a warrior priest from a strict religion?
Kate, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Warrior Priest by Kate Hill

    Genre Science Fiction Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

What happens when a warrior priest from a strict religion meets a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune?

Jade and Selena are as different as two people can be, but to facilitate an alliance between their worlds, they engage in a cultural exchange. With their galaxy in danger from a planet that wants to conquer or destroy all others, they realize the importance of their assignment, but it is difficult for a warrior priest and a nonviolent priestess to understand each other.

Selena is both attracted and appalled by his old school masculinity, and Jade is tempted to break his vow of celibacy until marriage due to his powerful desire for her. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love?

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

My name is Jade, or Ari Jade, if you want to be formal. I’m thirty-four years old.

What is the time period in which you live?

It’s the modern era on my planet—I’m from Covenant—but to someone from Earth during your time, it would be the distant future.

    What is your favorite meal?

Land and Sea Delight. It’s sea greens wrapped in noodles with garden snake strips on the side. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

I don’t think there’s a food invented that I’d refuse to eat. Selena always teases me about my appetite. That’s just another way we’re complete opposites. She doesn’t eat much, and she’s vegan.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

Eat it. When you nearly starve to death while trapped for weeks in an ice cave, you learn to appreciate food in a way you never imagined before.

Have you ever eaten military style rations, and if so, what was your favorite?

Yeah, I’m a warrior priest. Meat stew.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

The only time I skip a meal is if I’m forced to or during our annual fast.

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

Fruit nut mix. Jerky. Cereal bars.

Who are your favorite people to share meals with?

Selena, even though she’s vegan. Just kidding. I’ve had some really good vegan meals since meeting her. At her commune, they have a recipe for sweet potatoes that’s so good I can almost taste it now.

Tell us what your author eats or drinks while writing about you.

Kate is basically a water drinker. I’m with her there. Nothing tastes as good as water when you’re really thirsty. As for food, she has a weakness for dark chocolate and peanut butter.

If your author has a pet, what does she feed the animal?

She has dogs, a cat, and hermit crabs. The dogs eat wet and dry food, sometimes mixed with a little pumpkin. One of her dogs loves apples and celery for snacks. The other won’t touch either one. Her cat prefers cat food with turkey and won’t touch the ones with fish. The crabs? She feeds them fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, and a variety of dried crab food, calcium powder, and worm castings. Sometimes they enjoy a little popcorn, too.

Same question for you. What do you feed your pet/s?

At this time I don’t have any pets, not because I don’t like animals, but because I’m not home very often, even though that’s about to change. Since meeting Selena, a lot has changed, and I mean that in a good way.

What Francie Karr eats for dinner, from I Sorta Do by Cheryl St John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #SweetRomance #RomanticComedy

What Francie Karr eats for dinner, from I Sorta Do by Cheryl St John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #SweetRomance #RomanticComedyIn Cheryl St John’s new sweet romantic comedy, I Sorta Do, an impulsive freelance photographer blackmails a buttoned-up father of two into spending a week as her make-believe husband in order to impress her old high school classmates. Sparks fly—and ignite.

Cheryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

I Sorta Do by Cheryl St John

    Genre: sweet romantic comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Husband needed: One week commitment. Children optional.

I, Francie Karr, take you, Ryan MacNair, in bogus matrimony to convince my grandma and high school reunion class that I’m blissfully married—you provide the kids. A week should do it. You pledge to be so irresistible that you charm the Spanx right off those stuck-up gossips. Your touches should make their eyes pop, and your kisses be so intoxicating that we don’t have to fake that part. Oh, and we promise not to let this family—or this electricity between us—feel real.

Sizzling sweet romance by a USA Today bestselling author

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

I’m Francesca Karr, but the only one who calls me that is my grandmother. Please call me Francie. I’m 33 years old.

What is the time period in which you live?

I’m a modern-day girl, in love with technology. I especially appreciate digital photography and Door Dash deliveries.

    What is your favorite meal?

Anything someone else cooks—and something that’s ready quickly. I tend to eat on the run or in front of the tv in the evening. If I can’t grab it on the way home or order in, I make a protein shake.

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

Don’t try to pass off raw fish as a meal. That’s just wrong.

Tell us about a meal or food that says “home” to you.

My YaYa was a great cook, and she spoiled me with homemade dinners and desserts. I still enjoy an occasional fried chicken dinner with a heaping plate of mashed potatoes. Those two things with an ear of corn on the cob scream summer at YaYa’s to me.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

I try everything. There are very few foods I don’t like. I’m not a picky eater.

What is the worst meal you’ve ever eaten?

Probably something I made myself. If I’m forced to make a meal, I ask Alexa how to do it and then substitute ingredients because I don’t buy many groceries. I don’t recommend this method. Door Dash is so easy and far more palatable.

What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten?

The first meal I ate with Ryan MacNair was the most enjoyable I can remember. We went to an Italian restaurant and shared lasagna and a bottle of wine.

Growing up, who was the best cook in your family?

It was only me and my Yaya, and she was an incredible cook. She made me breakfast and packed my lunches. I never needed anyone other than her. She was my family.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

Breakfast is important to keep up my energy level. My Ninja is the most used appliance I own. Every morning I have a protein, fruit and veggie shake to start my day.

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

I’m a snacker. My grocery delivery is filled with yogurt, rice cakes, fig bars, popcorn and cut vegetables. My secret stash contains little snack pudding cups and gummy bears.

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

I enjoy strong black coffee. Sometimes I do a sweet mocha latte.

    Favorite alcoholic beverage?

A top shelf margarita on ice, not frozen.

    Favorite non-alcoholic beverage?

Black coffee or iced tea with lemon.

What do you grab when there’s no time for a regular meal?

I make myself a shake or eat fruit and vegetables. I’m quite accomplished at making peanut butter sandwiches as well.

Tell us what your author eats or drinks while writing about you.

My author drinks a lot of decaffeinated coffee. I’ve asked what the point is, and she claims she likes the taste, but doesn’t do caffeine. She’s a snacker too, and I have to limit her Peanut Butter M&Ms.

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

My name is AJ Shepherd. I’m 32

What is the time period in which you live?

    I live in current times

    What is your favorite meal?

Usually, I prefer steak, rare. Grilled pineapple is my new favorite side dish. And of course, potatoes have to go with the steak.

If any, what food do you refuse to eat?

I can’t stand oysters. I’m not a fan of the slimy texture. I also hate cabbage.

Tell us about a meal or food that says “home” to you.

My brother’s lasagna. He perfected our grandfather’s recipe.

When you find yourself with some type of unknown food on your plate, what do you do?

Try it. If I don’t like it, then I just leave it.

What is the worst meal you’ve ever eaten?

I had some bad sushi on an airplane ride once. I haven’t eaten sushi again since.

What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten?

Everything Ellie cooks is amazing. Her shrimp and steak kabobs are my favorite so far.

My grandfather was an amazing cook. My mother made the best desserts.

Have you ever eaten military style rations, and if so, what was your favorite?

I was in the Shifter Enforcement Army for ten years. Some of the MREs were awful but most were pretty decent. I liked the chili the best.

If you cook, what kind of food do you like to prepare?

I love cooking on the grill. I make a good brisket which I usually serve with carrots and potatoes.

Do you skip breakfast or is eating that a must-do for you?

It depends. I don’t like grocery shopping so I tend to run out of things. Since I’m a bear shifter, I can shift form and run in the woods as a bear and catch some fish but I like human food, too. My favorite breakfast is homemade pancakes and fresh blackberries.

Do you keep snacks on hand, and if so, what are they?

I can never get enough berries. I like to have pie and chocolate ice cream a few times a week too.

How much coffee or tea do you drink?

I always have a cup of coffee with a little sugar every morning. Chamomile tea or peppermint tea is nice in the evening.

    Favorite alcoholic beverage?

I like to have a few beers every now and then. Yuengling Black and Tan is my favorite. Makers Mark whiskey is reserved for when I need to clear my head. A couple shots helps me think.

    Favorite non-alcoholic beverage?

I like to make smoothies in the blender, usually with peanut butter, strawberries, bananas, and some peach yogurt.

What do you grab when there’s no time for a regular meal?

Fruit and frozen waffles are easy to grab on my way out the door.

Who are your favorite people to share meals with?

My brother, my buddy Rob, and Ellie. We all take turns cooking. The food is always good but the company and good conversations we share are the best part of getting together for dinner.

Tell us what your author eats or drinks while writing about you.

Christina usually drinks grape Gatorade and eats dark chocolate bars and barbecue chips.

If your author has a pet, what does she feed the animal?

Yuki the Great Pyrenees, Lu the evil cow kitty, and Gerald the cinnamon roll cat all eat pet food but sometimes they get treats. Yuki especially likes watermelon and pizza crust. Lu and Gerald like chicken from the grill.

Same question for you. What do you feed your pet/s?

I feed Opal fish from Scott’s Fresh Market because she doesn’t like cat food that much.

A few years ago, I read my first romance novel and I was hooked, so much so that I decided to give the idea of writing a story a chance. Love, courage, hope, and second chances are a few of my favorite themes. My stories include a fair amount of sarcasm, suspense, steam, and violence. When I’m not writing, I enjoy spending time outside and finding ways to avoid cooking. I live in beautiful Virginia with my husband, two daughters, and a sweet, hairy monster of a dog.

  • Christmas or Holiday,  What's for Dinner

What Eve Richards eats for dinner, from Gingerbread and Jingle Bells by Caro Carson @theCaroCarson #RLFblog #HolidayRomance

She hasn’t seen her childhood buddy since the summer they turned 13, when she was determined to give him her first—somewhat disastrous—attempt at a kiss. Now they’re all grown up. She’s home for the holidays, and he’s the town’s new swoon-worthy veterinarian in Caro Carson’s award-winning holiday romance, Gingerbread & Jingle Bells.

Caro, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Gingerbread & Jingle Bells by Caro Carson

    Genre: Contemporary Holiday Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

She’s a big-city executive with a cool head for business.

He’s a small-town veterinarian with a passion for saving injured wildlife.

As children, they’d been the best of friends, until the day Eve had so determinedly—and somewhat disastrously—kissed Daniel on the lips the day before his family moved to England, leaving Masterson, Texas, for good.

This Christmas, they’ve both come back to town, and Eve’s grandmother is on an embarrassingly obvious matchmaking mission. Eve knows nothing good could come from falling for the tall, dark, and British version of her old school friend. He’s come back to put down roots; Eve is leaving after the holiday rush at her family’s bakery.

But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to resist the temptation of taking a second chance at that first kiss. One little kiss before Christmas couldn’t really change their lives…could it?

Let’s chat about what to eat

First, what is your name and how old are you?

Hi, I’m Eve Richards, originally from Masterson, Texas, and I’m in my mid-twenties.

What is the time period in which you live?

It’s 1985! What a great time to be alive. Everything’s colorful and bold and big—even the bow on the fancy dress I’m wearing to the holiday dance is big!

    What is your favorite meal?

When I was a little girl, I thought TV dinners were the coolest. I loved the silver tray that was divided into little compartments, and there was always a dessert! But my mother, even though she was a divorcee who worked all day, insisted on cooking healthy dinners and sitting down with me to eat every night. The TV dinners were a rare treat. Of course, that made them even more desirable.

If you cook, what kind of food do you like to prepare?

I have to cook, because I live by myself. I’ve got my own place in Pittsburgh now. It’s a high-rise apartment, just as I’d always imagined I’d live in some day. I’m doing it! We 1980s women can have all kinds of careers that weren’t available to women like my grandma when she was my age. That’s why she bought her own bakery, so she could be her own boss. I work for a major corporation, so I’m not my own boss, but I am getting promoted. The company expects me to work long days, so I make myself TV dinners now. Maybe too many. I have to confess, they aren’t as delicious as I thought they were as a child.

Tell us about a meal or food that says “home” to you.

As I mentioned, my grandmother owns a bakery. Her sourdough bread, topped with butter—and nothing else—that’s my favorite. I’m home for the first time in ages to help her with the holiday rush, because my mom just got married and is away on her honeymoon. The holidays mean gingerbread in our bakery. Gingerbread houses, gingerbread cookies, even a giant gingerbread man.

What do you feed your pet/s?

Oh, I can’t keep a pet in my apartment. But now that I’m back home in Texas for a few weeks, I hear there’s a new dog in town (along with a new veterinarian) who has snuck into the bakery and stolen gingerbread more than once. If Grandma doesn’t put a stop to that, I’ll have to handle it…but I get the feeling Grandma *wants* me to confront the new vet. That means he must be around my age. She’s always playing matchmaker. It’s totally embarrassing.
