    Cowboy’s Sweetheart @stephanieberget #RLFblog #western #romance

Welcome Stephanie Berget author of Cowboy’s Sweetheart, a
    new Western Romance.
    Why did you write
    this book?
This is the third in my Sugar Coated Cowboys series. Byron
appeared briefly in the first two. I became intrigued by this big, strong man
who was a loner, frightened of getting too close to people, but who longed to
    have someone to love.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
Small town romance with a touch of humor.
    Who is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own)?
That would have to be Davie Dempsey from Jennifer Crusie’s
Faking It. I also loved the heroine in that book, Matilda Goodnight.
    What are you working
    on at the moment?
I’m working on a western romance set in Greenleaf, Idaho
about a Barrel Racer and a Saddle Bronc Rider. It’s a second chance romance
with the working title, Mavis and Butthead. LOL
    What books will we see
    from you in coming months?
Well, Mavis’ book by the first of June and later this fall,
    the sequel to Radio Rose.
    Please tell us about
    your latest book.

Byron Garrett has found peace as the foreman on the Circle W
ranch. He’s far from his controlling father and the man’s demands that Byron
make him proud as a pro football player. Born a city boy, he’s found his
passion with the land, his horses and the cowboy way of life. He’s found all he
needs and it doesn’t include a woman or the complications that come with love.
At least, not until a bubbly artist shows up and does her best to tear down the
corral he’s built around his heart.
Vivi Beckett is searching for a place that feels like home.
After traveling the country, she’s finally found it in the beautiful wilds of
Oregon. With the inheritance left her when she was orphaned, she’ll buy a place
to live and create her art. But after meeting Byron, Vivi suspects her dream
alone won’t be enough to bring her happiness … not unless he’s at her side.
All of Vivi’s dreams are at risk when she discovers her
inheritance is in jeopardy. She needs help, but Byron’s past has left him
unwilling to give anyone power over his life. The ghosts in hers have left her
    desperate to be needed.
Will Byron be willing to join her on a different and perhaps
    even better path?

Romance beneath a rodeo moon. That’s what Stephanie Berget
had in mind when she began writing, to add a realistic view of rodeo and
    ranching to her Western Romance.
She was born loving horses, developing a lifelong love of rodeo
when she married her Bronc Rider. They traveled to rodeos throughout the
Northwest while she ran barrels and her cowboy rode bucking horses.
Stephanie and her husband have three adult children and
several grandchildren. They live on a farm located along the Oregon/Idaho
border, where they raise hay, horses and cattle, with the help of Cisco, the
wonder horse, Dizzy Dottie, the Border Collie, and two Munchkin cats, Magic and
    Martin.

    Downton Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, Darcy’s Hope @GingerMonette #RLFblog #historical #romance

Was Downton Abbey inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and
Prejudice? One Sunday night while watching season 2 of Downton Abbey, it dawned
on me: Downton Abbey is a copycat of Pride and Prejudice! Now, whether Julian
Fellowes really did look to Jane Austen’s classic for inspiration, I cannot
say, but let’s look at some of the similarities.
    A houseful of
    daughters with no heir.
Both storylines are built on the premise of impending doom
due to the family’s misgivings about the unfamiliar heir. In Pride and
Prejudice, Austen placed a cast of five daughters at risk of being “thrown
to the hedgerows” should their father die before they are wed. Julian
Fellowes chose three sisters for Downton Abbey’s cast, but the situation
differs in that they seem more concerned for the future of their physical home
and the general uncertainty brought about by the new heir rather than their
    personal futures.
    Similar characters.
Both Austen and Fellowes chose a heroine who is an “obstinate,
headstrong girl.” Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary Crawley was never one to hold
her tongue. And certainly Austen’s Elizabeth Bennet never hesitated to voice
her opinion on everyone and everything!
Perhaps the most similar character in the two stories is a
domineering matriarch. The outspoken dowager Lady Grantham is one of Downton
Abbey’s most colorful characters. But I believe Fitzwilliam Darcy’s imperious
aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, could have given even Violet Crawley a run for
    her money!
    An attempted
    elopement
Both dramas include an attempted elopement that spawns
uproar in the respective families. Readers are aghast when Austen’s rogue,
George Wickham, runs off with Elizabeth’s younger sister, nearly ruining the
    Bennet family’s reputation.
Conversely, Downton Abbey fans cheered when daughter-of-the-manor
Lady Sybil and chauffeur- servant Branson finally kissed. But their pairing and
attempted elopement was scandalous nonetheless, sending Sybil’s sisters
hurrying after her and her father into a thunderous outage.
In both stories, the scandalous union became a clever plot
device to not only create drama, but to keep audiences on the edge of their
seats. Would the scandalous pair remain together? How would the scandal drive
future storylines and affect the other characters?
    A grand estate
In both Pride and Prejudice and Downton Abbey, a grand house
is a silent, yet central character. For nearly 200 years women have been
swooning over Pemberley, the estate of Austen’s heartthrob Fitzwilliam Darcy.
And Highclere Castle’s gold rectangular structure topped with corner towers and
spires is instantly recognizable as the Crawley’s beloved family home on Downton
    Abbey.
These lavish homes set our hearts to dreaming and become a
beloved character in and of themselves. But the Austen/Fellowes parallels don’t
stop there. It is worth noting that the name Downton Abbey is suspiciously
similar to Donwell Abbey, the name Austen chose for George Knightley’s estate
    in her classic work, Emma.
    An entailed estate
    with an “unsuitable” heir.
In Pride and Prejudice, the unsuitable heir is the obnoxious
rector William Collins, whose marriage proposal to Elizabeth Bennet is flatly
refused. In Downton Abbey, Matthew Crawley is a dashing, but lowly solicitor.
And although both “unsuitable heirs” go on to propose to other women,
in the case of Downton Abbey, viewers are thrilled when the lovestruck hero and
    heroine eventually marry.
    High society
characters falling in love with, well, those not so high society.
Fitzwilliam Darcy is downright disgusted with himself for
falling in love with Elizabeth Bennet, a woman so decidedly beneath him. And in
Downton Abbey, Lady Mary Crawley is incensed that a man in trade will inherit
her family home. But in the end, love wins out for both couples.
We may never know if Julian Fellowes was inspired by Jane
Austen, but certainly in both cases, the premise has enchanted millions and
proven to be a blockbuster success in both literature and film.

Darcy’s Hope Saga: Downton Abbey Meets Pride and Prejudice

Escape to the era of Downton Abbey and experience all the
drama of World War 1 alongside Jane Austen’s iconic Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam
Darcy. You’ll watch their tender love unfold as they learn to work together and
reconcile their differences at a field hospital only miles from the Front.

    Never A Bridesmaid, Always A Bride @AuthorMET #RLFblog #contemporary

Welcome Mary E Thompson author of Never A Bridesmaid, Always
A Bride, a new contemporary romance.
Why did you write this book?
    There are constantly
stories running through my head. I have enough ideas to keep me busy for the
next few years. But this story… titles come to me first. I thought of the title
and it kept going from there. A woman who had multiple failed marriages, but no
one she was close to who asked her to be a bridesmaid. A woman who got married
again and again, and again, for different reasons, but always felt alone. I
wanted to help her find happiness.
    When I added in the
Finger Lakes area of New York, a spot that’s the picture of small town America,
it all fell together. Throw in a big family, a quirky matriarch, and lots of
wine, and you’ve got a story!
What is your favorite genre to read?
    Contemporary romance.
I enjoy reading about people I feel I can relate to.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not
    including your own)?
    I confess, I’m a
sucker for a superhero. If we’re talking general fiction, I’d have to say
Captain America is my favorite. He’s the quintessential good guy. Protector.
Lover, but sometimes a fighter. And sexy.
    If we’re sticking to
books, I’d have to say Bailey Moore from My Kind of Wonderful by Jill Shalvis.
My Kind of Wonderful came out two months after I finished chemo treatments for
Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and, without giving too much away, I connected with Bailey.
She was strong and determined and ready to take on the world. She was done
letting anything hold her back, and I admired the hell out of her for that,
    even though she’s fictional!
What are you working on at the moment?
    My next release,
Curvaceous and Captivating, is my current focus. It’s almost finished and
    will be available next month.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
    There is more coming
in this series, Raise A Glass, as more cousins find their happily ever after.
The next book will be out May 30. I’m also continuing my Big and Beautiful
series. The eleventh book releases April 18.

    Alyssa
Morgan thought she’d never set foot on her family’s vineyard again. Fifteen
years was a long time to be away, but not nearly long enough when she has
nothing to show for her time. Unless you’d count three failed marriages, two
parents she barely spoke to, one disastrous attempt at a college degree, and
    zero friends to count on.
    Jake
Monroe thought about leaving Amavita Estates many times after Alyssa left him.
Over the years, her family became his family. They accepted him. Loved him.
Healed him. Her family was the family he never had, and without her around to
remind him otherwise, he could pretend he was one of them.
    Until she
walked back into his world looking nothing like the girl he used to know.
    Alyssa
knows she needs to stay away from Jake. Jake wants nothing to do with her. But
the chemistry that drew them together fifteen years ago is stronger than they
    are.
    Especially
when Jake glimpses the vulnerability she’s trying to hide. His old protective
instincts kick in. He wants to soothe her old hurts, and maybe her new ones,
too. But Jake doesn’t know if he can move beyond their past to be friends, let
alone what he thought they would become. And Alyssa doesn’t know if she can
lean on him again when there’s still another woman in his life.

Mary E. Thompson grew up loving to read, like a good little
girl. Many nights she would fall asleep with the flashlight still turned on as
she hid under the covers trying to finish the last few pages of a book. As an
adult, the light from her ereader means she doesn’t need a flashlight, but she
still stays up way too late to finish a book.
When Mary’s not reading, she’s playing with her two kids or
living out her own real life romance novel with her hubby. She has a weakness
for chocolate, especially when it’s paired with peanut butter, and has been
known to have a bad day just because there’s no chocolate in the house. Unless
there’s wine. Then everything is okay.
Mary grew up in Buffalo, New York and swears she’s the only
local to never ski or snowboard. Soccer was always her sport, with a couple
adventures white water rafting and skydiving to keep things interesting. Mary

  • Paranormal

    Prison Made of Mirrors @JenniferTLoring #RLFblog #darkfantasy #PNR

Welcome Jennifer Loring author of Prison Made of Mirrors, a
    new dark fantasy/paranormal romance.
    Why did you write
    this book?
I started it many years ago, after being inspired by Tanith
Lee’s wonderful White as Snow. Fairy tale retellings have always been one of my
favorite things to write; this novella is an homage to one of my biggest
influences, who unfortunately passed away in 2015.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
It will probably always be horror, though I do read some
romance (mostly PNR and historical). I also love non-fiction.
    Who is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own)?
Two are characters I’ve loved since I was a
teenager—Irrylath from The Darkangel Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce and Zach
from Poppy Z. Brite’s Drawing Blood. I also adore Constantine from Robin
McKinley’s Sunshine. Two out of three are vampires, so I guess that says a lot
    about me. J
    What are you working
    on at the moment?
A Gothic/paranormal romance novella for After Glows
Publishing, concepts for a narrative game, and a lot of short fiction. I
    probably won’t work on a novel-length project again until 2018, though I’ll
likely write another novella this year.
    What books will we see
    from you in coming months?
April will bring the final book of The Firebird Trilogy (The
Pieces of Us) from Limitless Publishing; the fairy tale anthology Forest
Seclusion, featuring my transgender romantic fantasy story “If Only You Were
Someone Else,” from Supposed Crimes; and the first Erotikós anthology—containing
two of my erotic horror short stories—from DarkFuse. In May, I’ll be in a
contemporary romance anthology called Craving: Bad, and later in the year, I’ll
appear in Crystal Lake Publishing’s Tales from the Lake vol. 4. I still have
quite a few short stories, novellas, and novelettes submitted to various
publishers, so hopefully this list will be updating soon!
    Please tell us about
    your latest book.

Aithne is a warrior kidnapped from her homeland during a
Viking invasion and forced to marry her captor. Shortly before the raid that

not only her child’s life but also the lives of everyone around her.
Exiled by her mother, Brenna is taken in by a clan of dwarves who treat her
like their own. They soon learn that no one is immune to Aithne’s lunacy—not
even the prince to whom Brenna was once betrothed. Brenna must face and conquer
death itself if she is to save the land that rightfully belongs to her, and to
break her mother’s terrible spell on the man she loves.
