Does she become a traitor or a criminal? If she follows orders, she and her squad are war criminals. If she disobeys orders, they are traitors.

Eileen, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We want to hear your tech tip, but first, please tell us about Celtan Dilemma.

Celtan Dilemma is about a group of women who must choose to kill innocents including children or become traitors to their own species. Once they make their choice, they learn things are not as they’ve been told and the Celtan race offers options they’ve never had.

    Genre Scifi romance

    Traitor or criminal?

Lieutenant Lillian Buckner receives orders to take her squad of women pilots out to specific coordinates and destroy an unarmed transport. Lilly must decide whether to be a war criminal by firing on an unarmed vessel or to be a traitor and disobey her orders. Her life and those of her six pilots depends on her decision. No matter her decision, the punishment may kill her if she returns to the human forces.

    Trust or Punish?

Lord Hugh Korol fights against the humans. They invaded the Celtan’s territory and took sectors of space from them. The humans attacked their home world. When human women aid one of their unarmed transports, he must decide what to do to them. Can he trust the one he desires or will she break more than the fragile trust growing between them?

    Tech Tip

With working a day job and writing, my eyes get tired of staring at a screen. I tried writing on a tablet but the transcription was problematic and it took more time to correct the words so I’d lose the flow of my writing.

I love to write. Give me a spiral notebook and pen and I’ll write a complete novel that way. Except then of course, I have to type it up. I learned about Rocketbook and beacons at my day job but for my day job, I didn’t really need it. However, as an author, I saw a lot of potential. When I initially looked into it, it did not transcribe writing to words in a document it only took a picture. So I set it aside and did not use it. Fast forward a couple years, my middle daughter says mom do you want a Rocketbook. I asked if it could transcribe. She said no. I thought well I could try it and see if I could make it work. We got them and I set it aside to work on later. Then in my email, the company emailed to say here’s this new feature. You guessed it – Transcription. I had to try it immediately.

You can get the Rocketbooks in a variety of sizes. I have three – flip pad (think police officer’s notebook), journal size 6 x 9, and then spiral size. My favorite is the spiral size. It has lines and I can fit a lot on one page.

First time I did, I learned a lot. So I’ve written in a journal forever and in my journal, I write from top to bottom and side to side. So Rocketbook spiral, this is what I did. No. Leave plenty of space at the top and at the bottom there’s a QT code which the software uses to do it’s magic. Also don’t crowd your words or write edge to edge. It didn’t take me long to adjust my style for this.

So at the end of the day when my eyes are blurry from looking at a screen but I still want to write, I pull out this spiral size notebook and write. It’s soothing, relaxing, and allows me to continue to write when I struggle with screen work.

The software – app on your smart phone – takes a little to get used to but it is fairly simple. But you must have patience.

Two things I’ve figured out. My scans go to my One Note. You can also send them only to your email and there are all sorts of options. So in One Note you have to have a page available. But I’ve found it comes in to One Note faster if I have my email open as well.

At the top I write ## Title of Book ## This creates a tag in their software. So I add a number for pages – ## Celtan Dilemma 1 ## and ## Celtan Dilemma 2 ## and so on. This allows me to know if I’ve received each page I scanned.

Now the transcription. I am right handed and have relatively neat handwriting. Things that mess up – when letters go below the line it will interfere with the letters on the next line. If I write sloppy, it will put odd things in. But for the most part, it does a good job and as they technology moves forward, I believe it will improve.

This has all been about the books – what are the beacons and how can they be used? Oh I was excited to learn about the beacons. So these are little triangles you buy and can put on whiteboards – according to their ads and product information. The thing is when I read about them I thought of other uses for them.

How many of you have spirals of your writing that you’ll do something with some day? Transcribing handwritten stuff is a pain. It’s time consuming and tedious. But here’s where the beacons come in. Open your spiral of handwritten materials, take your four triangles and the software and start scanning. It takes a little to get used to how to do it, but I scanned three handwritten poems in a short period of time. Now I have them electronically. Even if it’s not in a spiral (if you’re like me) and it’s on the back of an envelope or post it or something else, put your triangles around the text and scan.

I have a handwritten cook book from my mom which I plan to use both the picture of the scan (so we can keep her handwriting) and the transcription of the text. When I’m done, I hope to have a family cookbook which includes family stories about food. Ultimately with this technology, I’ll be able to write wherever and however I want and transcribe it fairly easily. This will give my eyes a break and allow me more flexibility with my writing.

When a stalker threatens her, trusting a stranger means surrendering control. Risking it all for her makes him a better man in Bernadette Jones new Romantic Suspense, A Better Man.

Bernadette welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about A Better Man.

A Better Man by Bernadette Jones

    Genre Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Stripped of everything, her life threatened, she’s forced to trust a stranger.

Kicked out of her home as a teenager, Breezy Richards made a life for herself. Never asking permission or explaining her choices. Always in control of her destiny. Now she’s hiding from a stalker, trying to stay alive back in the one place she never thought she’d call home again: Spencer, Colorado.

The military had been the only escape for JackDaniels Vaughn. He quickly embraced the loner lifestyle, committed only to the next mission and his comrades. He’d sworn never to settle down moving from job to job, city to city, always searching for the elusive sense of purpose. Until he’s asked to protect Breezy Richards.

Loving her made him a better man. Can he keep her alive long enough to tell her?

    Stressing JackDaniels Vaughn

Every hero has a story. He has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a hero and get to know him better, by focusing on how he handles being relaxed, as well as how he handles stress.

Please tell me about your hero.

    Age: 39

    Gender: male

    Birthplace: Small town in Kentucky

Profession: Military Sniper, Cyber Spy, Bounty Hunter, A Fixer

Ethnicity: No clue, never met his dad,

What does your hero look like?

Tall, 6′ 3-4″ Dark curly hair, brown skin, hazel eyes, muscular. Keeps in shape by running and working out.

Who is the significant other in his life?

    Breezy Richards

    The Hero’s Relaxed Side

This hero is at a party. Considering his story, describe the party.

He doesn’t go to parties unless its close friends. But even at bar scene with friends he sticks to the shadows.

How does the hero feel about being this particular party, and what body language is he displaying that gives it away?

His gaze is always searching watching the guests to see who’s drank too much, who is uneasy, who might be upset. Who is overly happy. He pays attention to body language. If strangers will be there he’s already done research on them.

Is he more likely to mingle or remain aloof?

He stays in the shadow. Will talk a little more with the handful of people in his chosen family, but with strangers he will be assessing them.

If he drinks, what is his drink of choice at this party?

His mom was a drunk. He was named after one of her favorite whiskeys: Jack Daniels

How much drink is his usual?

If he has whiskey, he allows himself only two fingers. Or only two beers. He never mixes the two. It doesn’t bother him to sit with a glass of water. His man-card isn’t tied to how much liquor he can drink.

The hero figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?

If he has a friend that is hiding, he goes to see why and who they’re hiding from. Then he takes care of the problem.

Is he likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is he the friend that others latch onto?

Always a loner. He’s just now learning to have friends. He still stays in the wings.

If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the hero going to handle it?

Because he’s constantly watching, he probably saw the fight coming and stepped in before it escalated.

Is the hero the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?

He does the tossing, and not always gently.

    The Hero’s Stressed Out Side

How does the hero handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls him aside when he was blameless in a situation?

He learned at an early age that he looks like the scapegoat, those experiences taught him to go still and remain placid. To bide his time.

How does the hero react to hearing a scream?

His training and need to prepare for split second decisions takes over and his response is to investigate. He goes in silent and cautiously to get a feel for the situation. Once assessed, he makes a mental plan with at least one backup contingency before taking action.

If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses his mind?

    Why? Who’s in the wrong?

If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing he does?

Stop it. Then figure out who is in the wrong.

This hero attempts to rescue someone and realizes that he is in over his head. The odds are against him and there is no way out. He is going to get his butt handed to him. What does he do?

Keeps fighting while mentally assessing alternatives.

The hero runs into the one person from his past he wanted to avoid. He can’t get out of the situation and must interact in some way. What does he do?

    He walks away.

Someone younger than the hero is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the hero deal with it?

He let’s them make their mistakes unless a life is on the line.

The hero is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does he tell himself in order to get through the situation?

    Focus on the mission.

What one thing would you like readers to know about your hero?

He carries the blame and guilt for something that happened to a loved one. This guilt has caused him to devalue his own worth. He thinks of himself as expendable.

Destiny hides in the tempest’s heart

A fated encounter. A familiar stranger. A storm of passion. Can Ondine release her fear, surrender to Marut’s power, and claim her own?

Marine biologist Ondine Ambrose has always felt at home in the sea. Orphaned at birth and raised by her grandmother on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, she has never really questioned her extraordinary affinity for the watery world.

When she encounters an attractive but arrogant engineer on her private beach, surveying the site for a prospective off-shore wind farm, anger is her first reaction. A casual touch, however, transforms that emotion to incomprehensible, irresistible, terrifying lust.

Ebony-skinned Marut has his own talents—aside from his uncanny ability to swamp Ondine with desire. He can control the winds and summon storms. When he insists that they are both more than human, and that she is his destined mate, Ondine responds with skepticism. She tries to resist the charismatic Haitian, but ultimately she cannot deny the evidence of her senses—and her heart.

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…

My publication history includes contemporary, paranormal, science fiction, steam punk, historical, interracial/multicultural, mystery and suspense, BDSM, LGBTQ (both FF and MM), menage and polyamory, and romantic erotica. About the only genres that I don’t write are Christian, Western and sports romances. And who knows – I might tackle those at some point! I love to stretch myself and try new things.

The disadvantage of this genre multiplicity is that I don’t have a clear brand. That makes marketing a major pain. The advantage – my readers can always expect something new and exciting!

How do you come up with ideas?…

That varies tremendously depending on the book. Sometimes a title will pop into my head, demanding that I wrap a story around it. Sometimes a book will begin with a character’s voice haranguing me. Not infrequently I’ll start a book as a reaction to some other book, event or trend. For instance, my contemporary romance The Gazillionaire and the Virgin was inspired by my frustration with the flood of billionaire BDSM romances that followed the success of Fifty Shades. I had the perverse desire to twist all those tropes beyond recognition.

Rough Weather was inspired by my writing of another book about elementals entitled Hot Spell. I hadn’t really expected this, but the characters of Ondine and Marut showed up at the end of that romance and demanded a chance to tell their own story.

What is the single most important part of writing for you?…

I guess I’d have to say the intense joy that accompanies being “in the zone” – when the words and ideas flow and writing seems effortless. That’s an incredibly intoxicating and fulfilling experience. (Too bad writing isn’t always like that!)

A close second has to be connecting with readers. When a reader emails me, telling me she enjoyed my story, or someone leaves a review that shows she really “got” what I was trying to express, that can make my entire week.

When did you write your first book?…

My first novel, Raw Silk, was written and published in 1999. It is now in its fourth edition. I’ve been writing continuously since then.

Of course, like most authors, I did a lot of writing before I ever considered publication, simply for fun or to amuse my private readers.

Leather or lace? Lace for me, leather for my characters

Black or red? Red, if I have to choose.

Satin sheets or smooth cotton? Cotton, unquestionably. I live in the tropics.

Ocean or mountains? Ocean – with mountains in the distance!

City life or country life? When I was younger, I lived in a rural village, but now I appreciate the convenience of city life.

Party life or evening at home? Evenings at home make me appreciate the occasional party.

Dogs or cats? Cats, no question. I’m happily owned by two at the moment.

Tena Stetler is a best-selling author of award winning paranormal romance novels. She has an over-active imagination, which led to writing her first vampire romance as a tween to the chagrin of her mother and delight of her friends.
With the Rocky Mountains outside her window, she sits at her computer surrounded by a wide array of paranormal creatures, with a Navy SEAL or two mixed in telling their tales. Her books tell stories of magical kick-ass women and strong mystical males that dare to love them. Travel, adventure and a bit of mystery flourish in her books along with a few companion animals to round out the tales.
Colorado is her home; shared with her husband of many moons, a brilliant Chow Chow, a spoiled parrot and a forty-five-year-old box turtle. Any winter evening, you can find her curled up in front of a crackling fire with a good book, a mug of hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn.

A long-buried secret. A stolen portrait. The artist’s murder. Can Sherlock discover the connection between the three before he’s stopped permanently?

Sherlock can’t shake his apprehension about a family trip to Paris. His mother’s unflappable confidence vanished months ago, and her anxiety has set the whole family on edge. His greatest fears are realized when they witness the death of one of Mrs. Holmes’ former suitors.

As Sherlock seeks to unravel the reason behind the artist’s murder, he unearths a long-buried secret about his mother and survives several attempts to keep him from getting to the truth.

What did you like best about writing this series?

Now that I know the characters, I find writing about them like chatting with old friends. I also enjoy creating a history for Holmes because little is known about the original character.

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

I have a series of non-fiction books, The Life and Times of Sherlock Holmes, that explores different aspects of Victorian England mentioned in the original tales. I also have a thriller, Saving Hope, about early post-Soviet Russia.
