    Tell Us About Your Cover

What was your reaction when you first saw this cover?

This is the second version of this cover. The first was created when the book was published through an e-publisher. Once I got the rights back to the book, I was able to contract with a cover artist to create a new cover. I adore this cover. I think it is the best cover of any of my stories.

How did you choose the artist?

The artist is personally known to me. He has been doing cover art for years, and it was a pleasure to be able to get him to do this cover.

What was it like to work with this artist?

Working with the artist was easy. He strives to make the author happy. The only thing I wanted to change from the original design was the font on the lettering of my name. He made the change in minutes and sent me a new mockup of the design.

What do you like best about your cover?

The fire. Fire is involved in a pivotal moment in the story. I love seeing it included on the cover.

In what ways do the models match your story’s characters?

The models are a perfect fit for my characters. The artist used my descriptions of the main characters when choosing who to put on the cover. They are an exact match, right down to the ice-blue eyes of the hero.

A good cover conveys the genre at a glance. What are the genre clues on this cover?

I believe the hazy moon, the hero’s icy stare, and the attractive male and female models all help to convey the paranormal romance genre.

What emotions do you hope your cover communicates?

I wanted this cover to be like my heroes…dark and intriguing with an air of mystery.

If they are open to new authors, feel free to share their website.

The cover artist is DW Adler. You can find Don on Instagram @DW Adler or contact him via DW.Adler9@gmail.com

After two failed London Seasons the fussy heiress doesn’t have a suitor. Her close friend, a newly minted duke cannot keep the mothers with single daughters away. They make a pact to pretend to court while they find each other the perfect mate. When will they realize, they don’t have to look very far.

Ruth, I’m happy to host you on Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Tell us about The Lady and the Barrister.

The Lady and the Barrister by Ruth A Casie

    Genre Historical Romance, Regency Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Lady Anna Ravencroft shines brightly as a much-admired organizer and hostess. In her mind it is the one thing at which she succeeds. Inwardly she is shy, retiring… a wallflower. With two failed seasons that ended in disaster she has accepted marriage might not be in her future.

Lord Fraser Castleton, a London barrister is shocked when he inherits a title and estate from his father’s great uncle and becomes the 8th Duke of Willbury. He returns to Sommer-by-the-Sea to take up permanent residence. He crosses paths with his longtime friend, Lady Anna. He confides that he is the target of every mother with an unmarried daughter. She commiserates with him. Every eligible gentleman sees the Ravencroft purse rather than her. Together they decide to find a mate for each other. Anna presents him with a list of several eligible women. Castleton is receptive, but not enthusiastic. He gives her the same reaction with the subsequent two lists. Will she realize he has already found his match?

Richard Younge who doesn’t always play by the rules wants to be the next Member of Parliament for his borough. His political backer will support him if Younge can finance the campaign himself. He suggests Younge find a wealthy wife to support his political plans. Marrying a Ravencroft would all but guarantee not only his backer’s continued support but provide the steady stream of money needed to claim his place amongst the gentry. He calls on Lady Anna for assistance with a campaign event and has an ulterior motive.

Two men vie for Lady Anna, but who will she choose? The smooth politician or the down-to-earth barrister turned duke?

    Tell Us About Your Cover

What was your reaction when you first saw this cover?

I fell in love with my cover when I first saw it. Wait until you see the other two in the series!

How did you choose the artist?

Darleen Dixon of Wicked Smart Designs is a cover artist for one of my publishers, Dragonblade Publishing. All her covers are wonderful. When I decided to indie publish this book, I just had to had one of her covers. I am not disappointed.

What was it like to work with this artist?

Dar is easy to work with. I told her my vision and she came back with the answer. She has done other covers for me and has helped me get the perfect cover.

What do you like best about your cover?

I can’t pick just one thing… I love the color and texture of the design.

In what ways do the models match your story’s characters?

The model on my cover carries through the design of the other books in the series.

A good cover conveys the genre at a glance. What are the genre clues on this cover?

The genre clues on my cover include: the setting (a Regency dining room), the model’s dress and bonnet (typical of the Regency period), and the font.

Why did you choose the colors of this cover?

My cover artist chose the color to coordinate with the other three books. She was spot on!

What are the titles of previous books this artist created?

In my series… The Lady and the Her Quill, The Lady and the Spy, and The Lady and Her Duke.

For other authors… Kathryn LeVeque, Suzan Tisdale, Jaycee Clark, Elizabeth Ellen Carter, Anna Markland

Peek behind the cover of A Swan's Sweet Song by J Arlene Culiner@JArleneCuliner #RLFblog #ContemporaryRomanceInstant attraction and crossed wires. After too many years onstage as a glittering country music star, Sherry Valentine dreams of an acting career, but publicity-shy reclusive playwright, Carston Hewlett, hates being used for his contacts. And despite the deep attraction between the two, Sherry’s agent, first-class manipulator Charlie Bacon, is capable of ruining any romance.

J Arlene, I’m happy to host you on Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Tell us about A Swan’s Sweet Song.

A Swan’s Sweet Song by J Arlene Culiner

    Genre: Contemporary Romance
    Book heat level: Sensual

Smart-talking Sherry Valentine has fought her way up from poverty to stardom as a country music singer. Ever surrounded by clamoring fans and paparazzi, her spangled cowboy boots carry her from one brightly lit stage to the next. But Sherry’s been on the star circuit for too long, and she wants a change: is it too late for an acting career?

A renowned but reclusive playwright, Carston Hewlett cherishes his freedom, the silence of the deep woods surrounding his home, and his solitary country walks. So why is he fascinated by a flashy country music singer? Perhaps a short passionate, fling will resolve the problem.

When their names are linked in the scandal press, and Sherry’s plans to become an actress are revealed, Carston feels betrayed. Is their budding relationship doomed?

    Tell Us About Your Cover

How did you choose the artist?

Kim Mendoza is one of the cover artists that the Wild Rose Press works with. I like some of the work she did and thought she could produce something that caught the atmosphere of A Swan’s Sweet Song.

What do you like best about your cover?

The lovely green of a forest brings my hero, Carston, and my heroine, Sherry, together, although their backgrounds are dissimilar and their careers and lifestyles clash.

What can you tell us about the model/s on this cover?

You can’t really see the two people on the cover, they are definitely a couple. Interestingly, when this cover was created, I was told that readers prefer seeing people on covers. However, recently, covers without models are becoming popular and from what I’ve been told, they sell better.

A good cover conveys the genre at a glance. What are the genre clues on this cover?

With the couple standing together under the trees, this story is obviously going to have a romance in it. The way they are both dressed shows us that the romance takes place in the present.

Why did you choose the colors of this cover?

I had nothing to say about the color choices, but a forest is usually green, shouldn’t it? Well… it should be!

What emotions do you hope your cover communicates?

It’s pretty obvious that the countryside plays an important role in this story. The green is soothing, even the large solid trees are reassuring, and the path suggests a positive destination.

Does your publisher use a form to gather information regarding your preferences?

The Wild Rose Press always asks authors for detailed input when it comes to covers. If the cover doesn’t match the story, or there are glaring errors, it can be rejected.

Bringer of Chaos by Kayelle Allen

Genre  Science Fiction, Space Opera, Space Marine
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

What was your reaction when you first saw this cover?

I gasped. I absolutely loved it.

How did you choose the artist?

GermanCreative has done over 20 covers for me. I found her on Fiverr.

What was it like to work with this artist?

She's patient, doesn't mind updates or changes, and always gives me what I ask for. Even better, she's affordable.

What do you like best about your cover?

The rich colors and play of light on the hero.

What can you tell us about the model/s on this cover?

The model for Pietas is Nik Nitsvetov, a Russian cosplayer. Nik has performed as Pietas in 3 separate cosplays for me. I have hundreds of photos of him as the character.

In what ways do the models match your story's characters?

Nik is a dead ringer of Pietas. In the stories, Pietas is sometimes teased because he's not handsome—he's beautiful. And Nik fits that perfectly.

In what ways are the models a mismatch for your story's characters?

Pietas is 7' tall. Nik is 5'9", but honestly, on the page you can't tell.

What emotions do you hope your cover communicates?

Pride and power. This is a sci-fi military story, and I think it gives off the right vibes for that.

When you're a soldier genetically enhanced to the point of near immortality and you fight a mortal soldier resurrected with the pilfered blood of your people, friendship never enters the equation.
But what if the enemy you despise holds the key to your salvation?

    Here's what readers say:

    • I shouldn't like Pietas. He's arrogant and pretends he's uncaring, but he's one of the most fascinating characters I've read recently.
    • I loved this story! A scifi bromance like nothing else I’ve ever read.
    • Pietas – the Ultra of awesome powers, both mental and physical – is left helpless and doomed by humans and a betrayer from his own kind. Six – a once-human ghost who should be the sworn enemy of any Ultra – saves Pietas from a destiny worse than physical death. The two are then marooned together on a distant, most likely deserted planet.
    • The Ultra has vowed never to accept help from anyone even close to human. That vow is challenged by his need to survive. The ghost has pledged to destroy all Ultras on sight. Watching Pietas and Six grapple through this deep dilemma was nothing short of beautiful for me. If these adversaries can navigate the chasm of hatred, distrust and male ego between them, maybe there’s hope for our own fractured world.
    • I was...immersed into a setting where every character is dealing with decisions, and where the wrong one is like having a jar of nitroglycerine and dropping it at his or her own feet. Characters to root for, and a story that satisfies all of the criteria of what makes up an excellent novel.

Peek behind the cover of A Room in Blake's Folly by J Arlene Culiner @JArleneCuliner/ #RLFblog #Western Historical to Contemporary RomanceBack in 1889, when Blake’s Folly boasted three silver mines, many saloons and brothels, the adventurer, Westley Cranston, fell in love with Sookie Lacey a former prostitute. Their powerful romance was doomed but never forgotten, and the repercussions could be felt 130 years later. The six stories in A Room in Blake’s Folly tell the tale.

J Arlene Culiner, I’m happy to host you on Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Tell us about your book.

A Room in Blake’s Folly by J Arlene Culiner

Genre Historical to Contemporary Western Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): sensual

In one hundred and fifty years, Blake’s Folly, a silver boomtown notorious for its brothels, scarlet ladies, silver barons, speakeasies, and divorce ranches, has become a semi-ghost town. Although the old Mizpah Saloon is still in business, its upper floor is sheathed in dust. But in a room at a long corridor’s end, an adventurer, a beautiful dance girl, and a rejected wife were once caught in a love triangle, and their secret has touched three generations.

    Tell Us About Your Cover

What was your reaction when you first saw this cover?

    I loved it!

How did you choose the artist?

Jennifer Greeff was the cover artist for one of my previous books, The Turkish Affair, and I think her design is wonderful. There’s the suggestion of hot sun and a bleached-out landscape—and those were perfect for a mystery set on an archaeological site in Turkey. For A Room in Blake’s Folly, a Western that begins in 1889, and ends in 2022, I wanted to see if she could evoke the past, desolation, and deep secrets.

What was it like to work with this artist?

A pleasure! So much so, that she has also done the covers for the two other books in this Blake’s Folly Romance trilogy that will be released this spring: All About Charming Alice and Desert Rose.

What do you like best about your cover?

The colors, the sense of loss, of a forgotten past mixed with the hint of green hope just outside the window. A Room in Blake’s Folly begins with a love story that goes wrong, but it still has the power to influence people one hundred and thirty years later.

A good cover conveys the genre at a glance. What are the genre clues on this cover?

There is an abandoned room, a window with torn curtains, and these both suggest a forgotten history and deep secrets. Such things belong to the past, to a historical novel, but we are seeing it now, after all the years have passed, thus it sets the story very much in the present.

What emotions do you hope your cover communicates?

Loss, secrets, and the desire to know more.

If your publisher chose your cover, how much say did you have in choosing your cover?

My publisher, The Wild Rose Press, presented me with another cover. It was a very nice cover, however, it really was too contemporary for this story (there was modern architecture in one corner and the suggestion of industry.) When I pointed out that most of the story takes place long before such things existed, my publisher immediately changed the cover, and I ended up with this one, which I love.

Does your publisher use a form to gather information regarding your preferences?

Yes, absolutely! How else could they get it so right?
