Bishop Takes Knight by McKenna Dean

    Genre Paranormal Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings) PG 13

New York, 1955. Former socialite Henrietta (“Rhett”) Bishop, destitute after her father gambles away the family fortune, takes a job at Redclaw Security. But Redclaw is no ordinary operation. Part detective firm and part enforcement agency, Redclaw regulates matters involving the growing population of shifters who have emerged since the onset of the nuclear age.

Peter Knight is a nuclear scientist shattered by the death of his wife. Blacklisted by the government and scientific organizations, he drowns his sorrows while searching for the people behind his wife’s murder.

When Rhett is assigned to recruit Knight, their meeting is more than either bargained for–a rival organization will do anything to secure Knight for themselves. Following a lead to locate a missing cache of alien technology stolen from Redclaw, Rhett is thrown back into her previous glittering life with Knight as her pretend boyfriend. But when someone from the past turns up to start a bidding war on the artifacts, Bishop and Knight wind up in a fight for their very lives.

Meet Captain from Bishop Takes Knight

    Full name Captain

    Nickname The Little Dog

    Gender male (neutered)

    Species Dog

Physical description black and white Jack Russell Terrier

Relationship to main character She cautiously adopted him, is keeping his secret

Relationship to the villain/antagonist What a cute little—EEEEE!!!

Where this furbaby came from No one knows!

What inspired you to create this character?

I inherited this little dog from my mom when she went into assisted living. Jack Russell terriers have a reputation for being fierce, but Captain meshed into my household seamlessly, getting along great with my big dog, the cats, and various livestock.

I thought perhaps he wasn’t really a JRT until the first time he encountered a skunk. It was like a switch flipped and he went into killer mode! The dichotomy between cute, fuzzy terrier and vicious killer amused me, and I thought it would be fun to introduce him into my paranormal series, Redclaw Origins.

What does the main character think about this furbaby?

Rhett encounters Captain in Bishop Takes Knight when her life is in danger. She acts out of kindness to release Captain from his cage so he has a chance at surviving, but that act in turn saves her life when Captain comes to her defense. Instead of reporting the unusual nature of the dog to her boss, which would result in his being caged again, she decides to take him home with her.

What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?

He’s just a little mutt. What harm can he do?

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

    With caution!

    What does this furbaby eat?

    ANYTHING HE WANTS.

Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.

Captain is a rescue dog. He lived with my mother until she could no longer take care of him, and then came to live with me. According to his records, he should be at least 13 years old, but we can’t believe that. He leaps on the bed, runs like a racehorse, and puts the 90 pound German shepherd in his place.

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Only Rhett Bishop and Peter Knight know Captain’s secret–but a spoken word–much like Shazam!–triggers the secret power. So there is a lot of effort that goes into keeping Captain’s abilities under wraps and preventing someone from inadvertently releasing them.

    About Captain

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Captain from Bishop Takes Knight by McKenna Dean @McKennaDeanFic @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.

I have LOTS of pets. Two dogs, five cats, horses, goats…

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

I write about shifters, so observing animals helps add realism to my writing. I also love giving my animals cameo appearances in my stories, such as the shy, stray dog Ghost, in Ghost of a Chance.

Captain is definitely modeled after my own little guy, down to the way he dances on his hind legs in excitement, yodels instead of barks, and insists on sleeping by my head on my pillows instead of on the expensive dog bed I bought for him.

What do your pets do when you are writing?

Captain is usually curled by my side. The young, big dog is either asleep at my feet or harassing the cats.

What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?

I used to keep a wide assortment of rodents–many from other countries, such as chinchillas and degus. I’ve also had an iguana, and I used to raise rabbits.

Where did you find your pet?

Captain came from the shelter, where he’d been for almost a year. I couldn’t believe no one wanted him! He’s a wonderful little dog.

What do you feed your pet?

Royal Canin makes breed specific foods, so I feed the Jack Russell diet. I want Captain to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible, so that means not giving in to his demands for table food, making sure he’s at a good weight, and keeping his teeth clean.

Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.

Captain goes bonkers for sticks. I have several videos of him yodeling until I give him his stick, whereupon he runs off with it. Forget about cleaning up the yard when he’s with you! He’ll bring back every stick you throw away.

    The Gift by Daryl Devore

    Genre Sweet Contemporary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

Daryl Devore’s latest is a sweet whimsical romance with a touch of mystery

Darcy O’Calahann, a junior gardener from a small mid-western town, is trying to make her way in the big city. After a stranger asks a mysterious question, Darcy finds a red tulip inside her locked gardening shed.

Shamus McTavis is a wealthy bachelor with a mysterious family past. But more surprising is his resemblance to the stranger who offered her the red tulip.

Are Darcy’s eyes playing tricks on her? Is she losing her mind? Or is there really a red tulip trying to link Shamus and her together?

Note- This book was previously published under the title Red Tulip and under the author’s pen name – Victoria Adams.

    Meet Reginald from The Gift

    Full name: Reginald

    Nickname:

    Gender: Male

    Species: Canine

Physical description: large dog, grey and white

Relationship to main character: Hero’s pet

Where this furbaby came from: Reginald was a rescue. Shamus saw him in a shelter and instantly fell in love. Shamus had no idea the energy and future size of a sheep dog.

What inspired you to create this character?

I needed a cute-meet to get the main characters together.

What does the main character think about this furbaby?

He adores Reginald. He loves the boundless energy and joy for life the dog’s exhibits.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

Reginald charges up to aand knocks Darcy over. After the initial shock, she immeditaley falls in love with the over-sized puppy.

    What does this furbaby eat?

Pretty much whatever he wants. He’s been known to chew up a leather shoe. He gobbled down a steak that was destined for the BBQ. And he’s been given more than his fair share of treats from Shamus. But his main meal is a special diet of raw meat.

What is this furbaby’s natural habitat?

The acres of open space at Shamus’s estate and long walks in Central Park.

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Darcy is quietly tending to one of the gardens, placing out new spring flowers when she is knocked over by what she thought was a small elephant. Shamus hurries over and apologizes, but Darcy is already in love with the dog and is scratching his ears. She looks up with a smile and meets the gaze of the man she is going to marry.

    About Licorice and Ginny-furr

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Reginald from The Gift by Daryl Devore @darydevore @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

None of my pets, which over the years is about the equivalent of a zoo, none has ever made it to a book.

What do your pets do when you are writing?

The same thing they do when I am cleaning, cooking or anything else – they nap.

What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?

A blennie. It’s a kind of saltwater fish. I called it (we had no idea what gender it was) – Blenni and the Jets

Where did you find your pet?

Licorice is a black cat whose very young feral mom had her in our barn. The mom disappeared when Licorice was about 6 wks old and we rescued her. Ginny-furr was a drop off. We live in the country and city people think a domestic cat can survive when tossed out of the house. She was only a small kitten at the time and is very lucky that we accidently found her.

Note – life in the country is not idyllic for animals – especially in July heat which was when this poor little thing was tossed away.

What do you feed your pet?

According to them – I feed them all the wrong food. For two rescues, they certainly have gotten spoiled. There is always a bowl of water, a bowl of crunchies and some wet food.

Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.

We have probably 10 different versions of a toy mouse. Some squeak. Some look real. They are constantly being carried around the house, hidden then relocated and attacked.

Radical Regatta! Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery #4 by Anna Celeste Burke

    Genre Cozy Mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Rescuing a dog that’s swimming for its life draws newlyweds, Kim and Brien, into troubled waters. As a crime wave hits Corsario Cove, the area is packed with visitors for a Fourth of July Regatta. With the murder of a shadowy figure Kim and Brien had confronted more than once, the game that’s afoot turns deadly. It won’t be smooth sailing for anyone until these twenty-something sleuths solve the mystery behind the murder and mayhem.

Meet Archie from Radical Regatta! Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery #4

    Full name: Archie

    Nickname: Archie

    Gender: Male

    Species: Dog

Physical description: A young, dark brown and white Portuguese Water Dog with soft, downy fur.

Relationship to main character: This is the dog Kim and Brien rescue that’s at the center of a mystery.

Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Someone’s determined to get their hands on the dog.

Where this furbaby came from: Found alone, in the Pacific Ocean just outside Corsario Cove; his owners are missing

What inspired you to create this character?

A dog swimming alone in open water seemed like a mysterious situation infused with urgency. It appealed to me as a great way to kick off a new book set in the imaginary coastal community of Corsario Cove where my surf-loving sleuths live. Plus, the protagonists’ compassionate character and youthful impulsiveness is quickly revealed when they put themselves at risk to save the poor dog and then try to learn how he was he happened to be lost at sea.

What does the main character think about this furbaby?

It’s love, at first sight, for Kim and Brien. They try not to get too attached to Archie—the name they give him. His owners must be desperate to get their loveable pooch back—if they’re still alive.

What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?

Someone wants Archie back, but it’s not clear who it is or why.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

Archie’s a charmer and most everyone he meets—except the bad guys—fall for his affable nature. His courage and determination to swim to shore amaze those who meet him, too.

What does this furbaby add to the story?

He’s such a sweet, happy dog that I hope he charms readers and that they cheer Kim and Brien along as they try to keep him safe and find out how he ended up abandoned at sea. Like food and humor, an adorable pet like Archie is a great counterpoint to the murder and mayhem at the center of a cozy mystery.

Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.

Archie has a very special, rather naughty animal pal in this story.

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Archie and his pal get into all sorts of trouble as they become fast animal friends.

About Coco–my only furbaby at the moment

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Archie from Radical Regatta! by Anna Celeste Burke @aburke59 @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

Coco, my seal point Siamese cat, is a model for one of the two cats in my Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series. My little 8-pound Coco is a sweet, cuddly cat, but he has the biggest mouth on any cat I’ve ever owned or met! Like Georgie’s cat Miles—as in Miles Davis—when my Coco bellows, it’s like a trumpet blast!

What do your pets do when you are writing?

Coco sometimes sits on the back of the chair in which I write. He also naps and, of course, bellows every once in a while, demanding attention or a treat.

What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?

    A large iguana.

Where did you find your pet?

Coco came from a woman near where I used to live in Ohio. She breeds Siamese cats, but Coco was part of an unplanned litter of Siamese cats.

What do you feed your pet?

Coco just turned eight years old this month. Officially a “senior” cat, I’ve recently switched him to a diet that will be easier on his kidneys and aims to prevent urinary tract problems. He loves turkey, chicken, and Bonita flakes.

Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.

Coco is a real fan of strings—We watch to make sure we don’t leave anything with strings on it unattended. He especially likes it when I play with him using a string that dangle feathers. He jumps and tries so hard to catch the feather, sometimes after sneaking up on it by crawling on his belly. Coco also enjoys independent play tossing a play mouse into the air and chasing after it. Crinkly paper is a great pleasure to him, too!

Shout out to our three non-profit animal rescue shelters!

The Summer Snoops Unleashed box set is a labor of love by 14 authors hoping to raise money for three no-kill shelters with a special interest finding fur-ever homes for senior/disabled/special need pets.
    Streetdog Foundation, Memphis, Tn.
Streetdog Foundation began with a phone call. When founders Melanie and Kent were asked by a friend at another organization to check Memphis Animal Services for a lost American Bull Dog, their one-hour task turned into a lifelong mission (not to mention the rescue of three shelter dogs at the same time).

Since that transformational day, Streetdog Foundation has rescued more than 750 endangered dogs from the streets and shelters of Memphis, all without a dedicated structure to house them. Streetdog relies on volunteer foster families to not only provide homes for our dogs, but also give them the love, security, and confidence they need to succeed in their forever homes. Whether temporarily fostering or adopting one of our rescues, everyone who takes in a Streetdog becomes part of our family.

And because we’re focused on the well-being of all the canine and human members of our family, Streetdog’s primary goal is to find the right fit for both the dog and the household. We are not a first-come, first-served rescue; our volunteers work diligently to make sure every match has the highest chance of success. We appreciate your interest and hope the compassionate vision that brought Streetdog Foundation into being will inspire you to join us however you can.

Since 1953, we have been serving the neglected and abandoned animals of the Northshore region. We rely solely on the support of caring people like you to fund our programs and services which profoundly benefit the animals of our community. Thank you for all your support!

Lord Corsair by Sydney Jane Baily

    Genre Victorian
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
Miss Beryl Angsley, relishing a final few months of freedom before marriage, accompanies her father across the globe on a mission of diplomacy only to find herself kidnapped by Chinese pirates in the South China Sea.
British privateer, Philip Carruthers, on a secret undertaking for Queen Victoria, has at last found the treasure he’s sought for two years. Unfortunately, he also finds a captive Englishwoman.
Duty-bound to rescue her, he risks his ship, his crew, and his cat to return Lady Angsley to her father. In the midst of a dangerous world of pistols and plunder, Captain Carruthers goes from privateer to pirate in order to steal the heart of a lady.

    Meet Leo from Lord Corsair

    Full name: Leo, the Cat
    Nickname: Leo
    Gender: Male
    Species: Domestic Short Hair
    Physical description: Stout, orange tabby
Relationship to main character: Loyal friend, shipmate, and helper to Lord Corsair
Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Attacks villain to save heroine
Where this furbaby came from: Belonged to Lord Corsair’s twin brother who died in a carriage accident
Do you have any working or service animals in your stories? Tell us about them.
Leo is a working crewmember, keeping the mouse population down onboard ship, as well as happily jumping onto both enemy vessels and enemies in general.
What inspired you to create this character?
My own dear cat, Leo, part Maine Coon, whom I found under a lilac bush one harsh winter. A gentle soul, to be sure but fierce when necessary.
What does the main character think about this furbaby?
Lord Corsair inherited his brother’s cat upon his twin’s death. He has mixed emotions but wouldn’t part with him for anything. Grudgingly admires the cat, but is occasionally at the receiving end of the cat’s temper.
What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?
My villains do not like cats! Leo vanquishes one particular bad guy in an alley.
How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?
Leo takes to Beryl, our heroine, as soon as she boards ship, much to Lord Corsair’s amazement.
What does this furbaby add to the story?
Warmth and humor, and Leo shows us the hero’s softer side. Also, without Leo, the heroine might have met a terrible end.

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Leo from Lord Corsair by Sydney Jane Baily @SydneyJaneBaily @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.
I currently have one rescue dog, Perry, from Tennessee, and one tuxedo cat, Sabby, whom we adopted from a shelter. We used to have four cats, but sadly, the others have passed away. These two get along well by ignoring each other mostly.
Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?
Leo from Lord Corsair was definitely modeled after my real-life cat, Leo, though my Leo wouldn’t have been happy leaving home or going on adventures, except in the back yard.
What do your pets do when you are writing?
Perry is under my desk right now. Sabby is a cat, meaning she does whatever she wants whenever she wants.
Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.
    Perry, any tennis ball
Sabby, leave me alone, I’m a cat.

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Bas from Water Dreams by Katherine Eddinger Smits @katherinesmits @RobsRescues #RLFblog #MermanKatherine Eddinger Smits, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about your book.

Water Dreams by Katherine Eddinger Smits

    Genre Paranormal Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Nik–an outwardly normal young woman terrified by water, living in the Greek-American town of Tarpon Springs, Florida.
Bas–a shapeshifter merman tasked with obtaining Nik’s help to gain what his species most desires.
The Nerei–a race of beings who want humans to continue to believe they are mythological.
What happens when Nik refuses to help Bas and the Nerei?
How will Nik and Bas save each other when they fall in love, against his species laws?

Meet Bas Cantonous from Water Dreams

    Full name: Basileus Cantonous
    Nickname: Bas
    Gender: Male
    Species: Nerei (Merman)
Physical description: Muscular, handsome, with pale skin, black eyes, black hair with jade colored highlights
Relationship to main character: Love interest
    Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Son
Where this furbaby came from: He belongs to a race of descendants of two of the Greek Titians, Oceanus and Tethys. He and his people are similar to humans but evolved to live in the water. His clan originated in the sea near Greece, but most have relocated to the Gulf of Mexico and spend time on land in Tarpon Springs, Florida. They call themselves Nerei, which comes from the Greek word for Nereids, or water nymphs.
What inspired you to create this character?
When I decided to write my debut novel, I knew I wanted it to be in my favorite genre, paranormal romance. However, I wanted something different from werewolves and vampires. I like them, but I wanted to write about a new kind of shifter. I already knew the story would be set in my home town of Tarpon Springs, Florida, so I considered what kind of shape-shifter might live near there. It’s a small town on the west coast of Florida, known for its large Greek settlement and fishing. So, of course mermaids and mermen came to mind.
What does the main character think about this furbaby?
Nik, the main character, is a young woman of Greek heritage who is terrified of water. When Bas tells her he is a merman, she thinks he is crazy. She doesn’t want anything to do with him.
What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?
The antagonist in this story is Mara, the clan matriarch and Bas’ mother. She has tasked him with enlisting Nik’s help. The Nerei’s greatest desire is to obtain independence from the water, so they can remain on land as long as they want. Mara loves Bas deeply, but is critical of him and not sure he takes his job seriously.
    What does this furbaby eat?
When in the water, Nerei eat raw fish, which they catch by elongating their fingernails into claws and their teeth into razor sharp points. On land, they eat human food, though they have a preference for sushi and very rare meat.
What is this furbaby’s natural habitat?
Bas’ natural habitat is the water and the land. Because he can shapeshift to pass for human, he can keep his true nature a secret while enjoying all the land has to offer.
Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.
Bas was raised in a Nerei community and had little interaction with humans until he was appointed to contact Nik. His English is formal and he doesn’t use contractions. Also, he has no knowledge of popular culture so idioms and slang sometimes confuse him in amusing ways.
What triggers the shift from human to animal?
Nerei are in complete control of their shift. They can remain human in water or they can partially shift. They can also remain in Nerei form on land, but rarely do because they wouldn’t be able to walk and also because they don’t want humans to see them in their natural form.
How does the shifting process happen?
The Nerei make a mental decision to shift and the change is almost instantaneous.
How does the human character think and feel about the animal side?
The Nerei don’t consider themselves animals. They believe they are superior to humans and retain their enhanced strength, hearing and eyesight when in human form.
How does the animal character think and feel about the human side?
The Nerei still consider themselves Nerei even when in human form. There is not the dichotomy that is often found in shifters, since their brains and sense of self is the same in either form.
In what ways are the human and animal characters different in belief and needs?
The Nerei cannot remain on land more than a few hours without rejuvenating in the water. They become severely dehydrated and this process can be fatal. They can remain indefinitely in the water, but they do need to surface to breathe air occasionally. This is because they have dual respiratory systems that can be overwhelmed by prolonged immersion.
Is the shifting process part of a deeper, mystical process (i.e., moon phases, rituals, life events)?
No, but the Nerei have a complex society headed by the matriarch and clan elders, who are all female. Males are warriors, but have little political power. The clans don’t all get along and sometimes war with one another, but also make alliances that complicate everything. They are also polytheistic, worshipping the gods and goddesses of the Greek mythology.

    About Corrin Castle

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?
My current pet is a 21 year old Irish Sport Horse, who has been with me since she was six. I don’t have any animals in Water Dreams, or my other published fiction, but my work in progress includes horses, a cat, and a dog. Those animals are modeled after ones we were privileged to share time with during their lives.
What do your pets do when you are writing?
Corrin Castle lives on a farm in Ocala, Florida. She thinks it belongs to her and must approve any additions to the herd. (Usually, the answer is no.)
What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?
When my kids were five and three, a cockatiel flew into our yard and perched on my daughter. “Mommy, can we keep him?” You know the rest. Crystal lived with us the rest of his life. He said a lot of words and loved to sit on your shoulder and rub his beak on your cheek.
Where did you find your pet?
My horse was imported from Ireland. I found her in Virginia.
What do you feed your pet?
    Grain, hay and grass.
Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.

After over two decades of helping veterans, families and community agencies as a clinical social worker, she retired to pursue writing. She has published two paranormal romances, a third is scheduled for release March 2019, and several more are in the works.
She grew up in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Although not from a Greek background, she fell in love with the Greek culture of the town and its close-knit families. She moved away years ago, but she still visits Tarpon Springs frequently to see old friends and classmates, walk the beaches, or shop and eat at the Sponge Docks.
She started writing stories in grade school and always intended to write novels someday. However, she put off writing fiction while she raised her family and worked as a clinical social worker at four different Veterans Affairs Medical Centers around the country. A Hero to Hold by Sheri Humphreys

Hi, Kayelle. Thank you for having me on your blog. I’m happy to be here. Here’s a little about my book.
    Genre Historical Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Viscountess Charlotte Haliday has lost her illusions. Scandal took her position in Society and the husband she thought she loved, and his mysterious murder followed shortly thereafter. But now is the time to return to London, time to find whatever small portion of happiness remains to her.
The first step will be proving she is her own person, unafraid of the lies and deceit that came before. Then she will defy her father and all others who try to take away her control. Never again will Charlotte have a husband or seek the perfect marriage of her best friend Jane, but perhaps she will dare the wrath of the gossip-mongers and indulge her tiniest desire. To do so will bring her face to face with a stranger in an alcove. It will lead to learning Mr. David Scott is not only a war hero soon to be awarded the Victoria Cross, but also the most formidable man she has ever met. Broken in every way except the ones that count, he alone can make her believe in love. And only she can show him that he is not alone.

Meet Piccolo Persa from A Hero to Hold

    Full name: Piccolo Persa
    Nickname: Persa
    Gender: Female
    Species: Skye Terrier
Physical description: Small, 35-40 pounds, long-haired, black terrier. Native to Great Britain.
Relationship to main character: A stray adopted by the heroine.
Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Antagonist tries to harm the pet as a way of injuring the heroine.
Where this furbaby came from: The streets of 1857 London.
What inspired you to create this character?
I like to add a pet to my stories. Animals add so much to our lives and I like my characters to have the benefit of pet love. The Unseducible Earl and its sequel By the Light of a Christmas Moon share a Springer Spaniel, Jasper. Never a Viscount, my work-in-progress releasing Spring 2019, has a cat, Phoebe.
What does the main character think about this furbaby?
The heroine, Charlotte, adopts and names Persa and quickly grows to love her. The hero, David, is surprised that Charlotte, a titled lady, would choose a stray rather than a purebred.
What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?
The antagonist, Vivian, harms Persa in an attempt to hurt Charlotte.
How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?
Even though A Hero to Hold released two years ago, I chose to profile Persa because she has a fairly large role in the story. She’s a brave little dog who comes to the heroine’s rescue when Charlotte is attacked.
What does this furbaby add to the story?
Initially, Persa is a source of conflict between Charlotte and David, then becomes a source of contention between Charlotte and her father. The pooch creates a bridge between Charlotte and an orphaned girl Charlotte is helping.
Always loving and loyal, Persa is in numerous scenes. She provides the companionship and love Charlotte lacks and doesn’t hesitate to protect her mistress, which places the terrier in danger.
What about this furbaby will readers like, and why?
Her name means Little Stray in Italian.
Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.
I chose to make Persa a Skye Terrier because it was the breed of one of Queen Victoria’s favorite dogs.
Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.
There’s more drama than humor associated with Persa. Everyone loves her. She’s a barometer for tension between David and Charlotte, and plays the role of friend who encourages them to repair their damaged relationship.

    About Mama Catt and Lucy

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Persa from A Hero to Hold by Sheri Humphreys @Sheri_Humphreys @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsWhere did you find your pets?
Over the years I’ve had a number of Miniature Schnauzers. Lucy was a neighborhood stray who dug under my next-door-neighbors’ fence into their back yard. She was so thin; every rib showed. My neighbors had two dogs and didn’t want another. When they couldn’t find her owner and decided to take her to the city pound, I decided to adopt her. Their little boy had been calling her Lucky, but I decided to change that to Lucy.
My vet suggested Lucy looked like a Jack Russell/Dachshund mix. I think that’s probably spot on. Lucy is devoted to me. After my Schnauzer, Pepper, died, Lucy began suffering from severe separation anxiety whenever I left the house. I tried different strategies to help her, but nothing worked. Among other items, she tore up bedding (mine), and even ate a window sill. She hated being left outside, hated being inside in a carrier, but I couldn’t leave her free in the house anymore. My vet suggested I try Prozac, and Lucy now tolerates my absences without going into destructive mode. I’m able to leave her loose in the house.
One of the strategies I tried prior to medication was getting a companion for Lucy—a cat. Mama Catt was abandoned in the country near a friend’s winery. She lived in the wild, avoiding coyotes, at last approaching my friend with her kittens. Steve found homes for her kittens but she disappeared. When she turned up with a second litter, he found homes for all but two males, who he adopted. He adopted Mama Catt as well. Except all was not wonderful. Mama Catt and one of the grown kittens didn’t get along and frequently fought. Steve thought it would be better for all if he could find a good home for Mama Catt. Enter me.
Mama Catt has been part of my household around eight months now. She and Lucy have established lines which both respect. Mama Catt lives in the guest room with the door wide open. Lucy goes in, but MC doesn’t come out except when I carry her. They are relaxed in each other’s presence, but not yet buddies. I’m hopeful they’ll eventually get there.
