“It is dangerous to become attached to a du Lac. He will break your heart, and you will not recover.” So prophesies a wizened healer to Annis, daughter of King Cerdic of Wessex. If there is truth in the old crone’s words, they come far too late for Annis, who defies father, king, and country to save the man she loves.
Alden du Lac, once king of Cerniw, has nothing. Betrayed by Cerdic, Alden’s kingdom lies in rubble, his fort razed to the ground and his brother Merton missing, presumably dead. He has only one possession left worth saving: his heart. And to the horror of his few remaining allies, he gives that to the daughter of his enemy. They see Annis, at best, as a bargaining chip to avoid war with her powerful father. At worst, they see a Saxon witch with her claws in a broken, wounded king.
Alden has one hope: When you war with one du Lac, you war with them all. His brother Budic, King of Brittany, could offer the deposed young king sanctuary—but whether he will offer the same courtesy to Annis is far less certain.

Yes, though it didn’t start out that way. We planned Seducing Cat as a one-shot erotic romp, intending to create a structure to maximize tantalizing erotic scenes. But once characters are created, they take on a life of their own…There are now a total of six books in the Meghan’s Playhouse series, and Seducing Cat is Book One.

Um, yes, but it might be TMI. We’ll just say we’ve learned a great deal about the polyamory lifestyle Meg thrives on. We like to keep readers guessing!

Yes. The century-old four-square house Cat has just purchased plays a central role. It’s modeled on a house we loved and left (had to move) in the Midwest a few years back – 3300 square feet, a central oak staircase, beveled glass windowed double doors to the dining room, living room, and the solarium beyond… So we’ve made the house immortal in Seducing Cat. Without it, Meg wouldn’t have a place to live, she’d never have succeeded in seducing Cat, and Kurt’s path might never have crossed Cat’s.

Not really – Erotic Romance, pure and simple. Some sub genres, though – LGBT, polyamory, and Ménage. Both Meg and Cat are bisexual.
you speak more than one language?
Yes—and since there are two of us writing together as Adriana Kraft, I’m going to cop to all of them: Besides English, between us we have French, German, Spanish, and a mystery oriental language. I’ll let readers guess, but I might or might not answer truthfully.
you grew up where you live now?
No, neither one of us. We now live in the southwest. I grew up on the east coast, and my husband in the upper Midwest, where we set a lot of our stories, like Seducing Cat, which takes place in Wisconsin.
you love to read?
Do you really have to ask? Mr. Kraft’s parents used to get mad at him for finishing all his Christmas books by the end of Christmas day. I once didn’t hear the rest of the family call me to come downstairs for ice cream because I was buried in a book. And both of us as children sneaked flashlights to read under the covers after we were supposed to be in bed.

Mr. Kraft will laugh at this one! He is never late, and I am pretty chronically a little late. I always think there’s time to do one more thing before we head out the door…

True, my mother’s tongue is Croatian, but I’m from a costal part that has its own dialect which is very similar to Italian, but converted to our grammar. So I can converse in Italian, if you’re not in a hurry.

No, I grew up in the town of Zadar, in the province of Dalmatia, (yes, where the original Dalmatian dogs were bread, back then called Canis Dalmaticus and the early breeds looked different from what you see today).
you love to read?
Yes, of course. I only heard Danielle Steel say she doesn’t read when she’s working, which is always, for fear she writes something she read in another author’s book into her own.
you are never late?
Not true, or rather used to be true, before I had kids. They really have no concept of time.

Yes and no, depends on the pizza.

Vegetarian only, used to like fish, but not anymore.
you have a pet?
Unfortunately, no. Me and half of my and husband’s family are allergic to cats. Dogs are expensive to keep, and so are cats. I hear horror stories from my coworkers who are paying astronomical sums in veterinary bills. I don’t know how they can afford it.

Zrinka lives in Ontario, Canada. A member of the Romance Writers of America and its chapter Fantasy Futuristic and Paranormal, as well as Savvy Authors, she writes contemporary fiction–which leans toward the paranormal–and adds a pinch of history. Day For Night is a Los Angeles-based urban paranormal comedy. Rife with pop references and scathing commentary on L.A., we follow main protagonist Rae Miller, a 38-40 something wannabe actress who has recently been voted off her reality TV show, as she languishes at a crossroads. She barely has time for self-pity, though, when the unthinkable happens: she witnesses an alien abduction in broad daylight!
Worse, Rae soon discovers that aliens aren’t the only otherworldly beings inhabiting the world, and after escaping a terrifying almost-abduction herself, she succumbs to a sexy Nosferatu’s silky assurances, becoming undead in order to up her alien Ultimate Fighting skills.
While not a strict romance, Day for Night does contain romantic elements. While Rae juggles constant male attention, only one person truly has her heart, although he refuses to have sex with her. I would say the heat level stabilizes at “smoldering” for most of the novel with one brief hot scene which, I although I used the rating PG13, the language that passes between them is definitely R.
Rae is not your usual protagonist since she’s somewhat older and also mixed race, two topics that are significant for anyone living in L.A. and/or trying to survive in The Biz. Some of her life is behind her, and she’s not quite sure how that happened. She’s also resentful that her love-life has stalled, and the dating scene is not only unfulfilling but, she discovers, downright dangerous!
The title Day for Night was taken from Truffaut’s movie title in order to reference the Hollywood environment, although “day for night” comes to mean something very different for Rae after her “Hail Mary” transformation into something…other.
After all, we all have a little bit of Rae inside us: when faced with the incomprehensible, in all likelihood, what would the average person do? Come on, be honest. They’d thank God for Jack Daniels and denial!

Yes, I lost some sleep and pulled my hair out and went crazy sometimes.

Yes. Small facts throughout like the names of the moons of Jupiter, what the chemical make-up of chlorophyll is, the definition of antimatter. Stuff that’s good for Jeopardy!

Yes. Some characters are definitely not human, and some of them are even yearning to be human.

Yes. It’s an urban paranormal comedy peppered throughout with romantic, mystery, and action-adventure elements.

Yes. I can speak passable Spanish, having studied it from age 9 throughout college. It’s a crime, though, that I’m so rusty at it.

Yes. Born in San Francisco, grew up in the San Fernando Valley, lived in NYC for a while, then came back home. On a side note, scarily, I left NYC right before 9/11 happened.

Stacey was a tomboy growing up, fond of gymnastics, climbing trees with Mr. Smith (her cat) and reading. While on vacation with her family when she was 13, a broken toe resulted in an inability to wear high heels when she got older (or at least not for very long), further alienating her from accepted feminine standards. After receiving her English degree at UCLA, she worked at a dude ranch, for a resume writer in Beverly Hills, in the classified ads department of The Reader, and eventually ended up captioning for the hearing impaired. She has written about tortured artists, suicide, and anorexia nervosa, but has found that light, humorous writing is a lot more fun, thus the foray into aliens and vampires in a Los Angeles setting. When she moved to New York, she found her husband in Brooklyn, and they eventually moved back to L.A. where they both write between bingeing episodes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and True Detective years after everyone else has already seen them.
