Is It True: Blood Instincts by Marie Lavender @marielavender1 #RLFblog #ParanormalRomance #PNRWelcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Marie Lavender, author of Blood Instincts, a paranormal romance/urban fantasy with a futuristic angle. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

    Blood Instincts by Marie Lavender

    Genre: Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Enter the Other World at your own risk…
What if you found out that you weren’t exactly…human?
Myah Sullivan is suddenly living that nightmare. There are Others in the world, dangerous, supernatural creatures that make her mind spin and cause her to question the reality she’s always known.
Oliver King is her savior, a vampire who tries to show her the way. Through her journey she learns far more than she ever thought she would about herself, and about the past. Soon, she discovers that there is so much more to meeting Oliver than mere happenstance.
Can Myah accept her new reality, or will she retreat into that normal, safe world she once thought was her own?

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
No, I have been published since 2010.
this book is part of a series?
Yes, this novel is book two of the Blood at First Sight Series. This will be a trilogy when it’s all finished.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
LOL. Some sleep, yes. Often my characters keep me awake and won’t shut up until I write a scene or chapter.
you did research for this book?
Yes, I always do research for the books I write.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
Of course. What would a paranormal romance be without different creatures? The Other World, as I call it, is comprised of various supernatural species. Those that this book touches on are vampires, shapeshifters, witches, pixies and fairies.
this book has more than one genre?
Yes, my books often cross genres. So there is definitely paranormal romance/urban fantasy with a hint of a futuristic realm.
you speak more than one language?
Sort of. Though I’m fluent in English, my Spanish is a bit rusty, and I only know a handful of French words.
you grew up where you live now?
Yes, I’m still in Indiana, in a small town.
    you love to read?
Of course! I’ve always loved reading books. From the time I was a kid, my nose was buried in one. I found the fictional world a great escape.
    you are never late?
Not because I want to be. I really hate being late, but sometimes it’s out of my hands. Or the muse has other ideas.
    you love pizza?
I love pizza! My doctor has me on a gluten-free diet right now, though, so that puts a bit of a damper on things.
    you love sushi?
Yes, I adore sushi. I think salmon or tuna might be my favorite, though I’m willing to try others. Just not the bizarre stuff.
    you have a pet?
I have two cats, actually. Emma and Katerina (Kit Kat).

    Genre Contemporary, erotic romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Abigail Montgomery, a small-town schoolteacher with zero self-confidence, longs for the loving family she never had.
Each month she attends a masked BDSM club, but her next visit will be her last. If she doesn’t marry within the next year, her military brother won’t inherit Montgomery Hall. Desperate, she advertises for a husband.
Jared Armstrong, a former Marine sharpshooter and occasional Dom, needs $125,000 to get his family out of a hole. His solution – to marry Abigail Montgomery for her money. His only regret is his wife won’t accept his spanking lifestyle.
Soon, Abigail dreams of making their marriage real, but she promised Jared a divorce two-years after their wedding. Can they share some Christmas magic as their relationship faces extortion threats, a kidnapping, and an attempted murder? Or will Jared walk away and break her heart?

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
No. My first book is a paranormal romance, To Wed a Werewolf. That led to a series full of hot werewolves, sexy vampires, and one cursed Fae who rides a dragon
this book is part of a series?
Yes. Marriage Mobsters and the Marine is the first novella in my Heroes of Westhorpe Ridge series. Each one features a former military man finding love in the small North Carolina town of Westhorpe Ridge. Although there are recurring characters, each book can be read as a standalone romance.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
Yes. My main publisher has shut its doors, but before they did, they put out requests for three linked stories.
I’m the sort of girl who’s always late to the party. I couldn’t think of anything that met their full criteria. Then, six weeks before the submission deadline, I had three stories in my head. I’ve never written so fast or burned so much midnight oil.
The fourth book in the series is a full-length novel, and I took my time over that.
you did research for this book?
Yes. I knew nothing about the American military and very little about North Carolina – except that it has a history of pirates. (That really mattered in the third book of the series – Desire, Deceit, and the Doctor.) Plus it has a beautiful coastline. Since Sean, the hero of Sex, Scandal and the Sheriff is a former navy Seal I needed that.
Fortunately, I have lots of Facebook friends in North Carolina who didn’t mind me hounding them with questions. I did worry I’d get American agents hammering on my door when I started researching military bases in North Carolina, though.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
There’s Duffy, Sean’s dog. He’s a collie and crops up in the first three books. He’s important in Desire Deceit and the Doctor since he helps save a child who had fallen over a cliff.
this book has more than one genre?
Yes. I like my stories to feature more than just scorching hot sex. Each book is an adventure and romance.
you speak more than one language?
Yes, badly. I learned French in school and can make myself understood in France if I have to. I prefer to point and smile, though.
you grew up where you live now?
No. I grew up in a housing estate in Leeds, West Yorkshire. There was plenty of green space and loads of trees to climb. I stayed in Leeds until I retired then moved to the Yorkshire Coast. A few of my paranormal romances start in Whitby or Scarborough, close to my new home.
    you love to read?
Yes. I’d get withdrawal symptoms if I didn’t have a fully loaded kindle.
    you are never late?
No, not if I can help it.
    you love pizza?
Yes, as long as it’s homemade. I love breadmaking, and pizza base is a doddle. Then we get creative with the toppings.
    you love sushi?
No. I don’t mind vegetable sushi, but the thought of raw fish – other than smoked salmon – turns my stomach.
    you have a pet?
No, but I’d like one. I a Welsh Terrier as child. He looked like a teddy bear on legs, but he was as fierce as he was small (14 inches). When the kids were little we had cats, and I’d have another now, but we shoot off to babysit grandkids on a monthly basis. It’s not fair on the animal to constantly put it in kennels.

    Kryssie Fortune Social Media

Kryssie Fortune writes the sort of hot sexy books she loves to read. If she can sneak a dragon into her paranormal books she will. Her paranormal heroes are muscular werewolves, arrogant Fae, or BDSM loving dragons.
Kryssie likes her contemporary heroes ex-military and dominant. Her heroines are kick ass females who can hold their own against whatever life – or Kryssie – throws at them.
Kryssie’s pet hates are unhappy endings, and a series that end on a cliff hanger.
Her books are all standalone even when part of series. Plot always comes before sex, but when her heroines and heroes get together, the sex is explosive and explicit. One review called it downright sensual.

Is It True: Shift of Destiny (Ice Age Shifters #2) by Carol Van Natta #RLFblog #ParanormalWelcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Carol Van Natta, author of Shift of Destiny (Ice Age Shifters Book 2), a paranormal. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

Shift of Destiny (Ice Age Shifters #2) by Carol Van Natta

    Genre Paranormal
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
There is no such thing as magic, or sexy shifters. Or… is there?
Moira Graham’s car breaks down in the tourist town of Kotoyeesinay, Wyoming. She’s on the run. Again. A crazy billionaire wants to possess her ability to predict the future, but it’s not a “gift.” It’s simple guesswork. Magic doesn’t exist. And this quirky town—which uses elves, fortune tellers, and fairy-tale gimmicks to draw tourists in—isn’t helping.
Roving carpenter Chance McKennie is a prehistoric shifter on the lookout for a mate. Unfortunately, people fear his lion, and don’t stick around long enough to get to know the man. He thought his luck would change in Kotoyeesinay, but his skills aren’t needed in this magical sanctuary town with creatures of myth and legend on every block.
When Moira bumps into him, she’s almost willing to believe in the magic of this place. But it’s going to take more than a red-hot handyman and some glowy lights to save her from ruthless hunters.
Chance is determined to protect his mate and help her find the magic in her blood. But even a top predator can’t guess the lengths to which a desperate billionaire will go to get what he wants.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
No, it’s my, uh… <quickly visits Amazon to count> eleventh book. I’m very bad at tracking numbers (don’t ask how old I am, because I’ll have to calculate it each time, and I might do the math wrong). Shift of Destiny is my third paranormal romance, and more are on the way. I also have a space opera series that starts with Overload Flux.
this book is part of a series?
Yes, it’s true! The Ice Age Shifters series features action, magic, and of course, romance. And sexy prehistoric shifters who find their mates. The first book is Shifter Mate Magic, set in 1993. Shift of Destiny, book 2, is set in present day, and involves more of the magical sanctuary town that was introduced in book 1.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
No, I don’t tend to lose sleep about writing books. My cats are the main culprit for sleep loss, what with starting epic battles, or licking noses or fingertips, or trying to get under the covers, or pushing the resident mad scientist off the bed entirely so they get the warm spot.
you did research for this book?
Yes, I do research for all my books because I love learning new things. I made the sleep-deprived resident mad scientist drive me to the southern Wyoming mountains so I could take pictures for where the sanctuary town is, and I have lots of reference photos and articles for extinct Ice Age animals. Also, too, I researched the Tunguska event, Tarot cards, and 1920’s residential house architecture.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
Yes, quite a few of the characters in Shift of Destiny are not human. In addition to a sexy male who turns into a prehistoric lion, there’s a polar fairy (not to be confused with their mortal enemies, the arctic elves), an ogre, a golem, a dark elf, a wraith, plus shifters galore. The sanctuary town is a safe place for all sorts of magical creatures.
this book has more than one genre?
Yes, if you count “paranormal” and “romance” as separate. I automatically assume all paranormal stories are romance unless someone tells me otherwise. Someday, I plan to write a paranormal space fantasy romance, to cover all the bases at once. ?
you speak more than one language?
Yes, sort of. I can get by in Spanish, but I don’t have anyone to practice with, so my vocabulary has melted away. I have a good ear for accents, so I can *sound* like I’m fluent in most languages, but this gets me in trouble when people assume I’m not just repeating a string of sounds.
you grew up where you live now?
No, but close. I grew up in Denver, went to Austin, TX and Los Angeles, CA for college, then moved back to Colorado, but 70 miles north of Denver in Fort Collins. It’s a pretty good place to live, all in all.
    you love to read?
Hell, yes. As with many of my author friends, I don’t have as much time for reading as I’d like, because I’m usually writing, but I dearly love to read. I’m planning a few vacation days in September where my main activity will be tackling the virtual Mount Everest that is my TBR pile.
    you are never late?
Yes, it’s true, I’m rarely late, and am usually early. This does not count acts of nature (e.g., the recent downpour that temporarily flooded our streets), acts of humans (some the idiot who to beat the light and caused an accident), or acts of cat (“look at me—I’m free, and you can’t catch me!”).
    you love pizza?
I’d say I merely like pizza—it’s not something I’d eat every week, even if it was a white pizza with ham and pineapple. I would go for Chinese or Indian food every week if I could.
    you love sushi?
Yes, I do, but I’m picky about what’s in it—no cucumbers, no avocado, no nothing spicy-hot, so it’s hard to find in the comparatively small town where I live.
    you have a pet?
Yes, I have six cats. I know, I know, it makes us the crazy cat people down the street, but it’s what the cat gods gave us. Five of our cats (two gray, two striped, one Tonkinese who is the Empress of the Universe) are rescues, and all six are as eccentric as can be. Sort of like us, actually, so we can’t really blame them.
