A Sour Note by Jill Piscitello

Genre Cozy Mystery
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

On the heels of a public, broken engagement, Maeve Cleary returns to her childhood home in Hampton Beach, NH. When a dead body turns up behind her mother’s music school, three old friends land on the suspect list.

Licking her wounds soon takes a back seat to outrunning the paparazzi who spin into a frenzy, casting her in a cloud of suspicion. Maeve juggles her high school sweetheart, a cousin with a touch of clairvoyance, a no-nonsense detective, and an apologetic, two-timing ex-fiancé. Will the negative publicity impact business at the Music Box— the very place she’d hoped to make a fresh start?

this is your first book?

No

this book is part of a series?

Yes. This is the first book in the Music Box Mystery series.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Yes. Storylines and character arcs often keep me awake when writing and editing.

you did research for this book?

Yes. Maeve is our sleuth. But her cousin is a bit of a clairvoyant with in-depth knowledge of plants and herbs. I researched the various medicinal properties of each. I also read quite a bit about police procedures.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

Maeve is allergic to cats. When she moved out, her mother adopted four of the furry creatures. Now that Maeve is home, she’s dodging their undying affection. Cats enjoy showcasing their sense of humor by planting themselves in the lap of the one person in a room who wants nothing to do with them.

A million percent true.
