Linda O'Connor author of Behind the Bench (In the Game Hockey Romance Series) shares a #TechTip for improving security @LindaOConnor98 #RLFblogThe new coach of the professional hockey team is stirring things up, and the team doctor is not immune. When they get caught up in a drug scandal affecting the team, they have to work together. Sparks fly and ice melts in Linda O’Connor’s medical hockey romance, Behind the Bench.

Linda O’Connor, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We want to hear your tech tip, but first, please tell us about Behind the Bench.

Behind the Bench by Linda O’Connor

    Genre Sports Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Dr. Danni Angelo is the team physician for the Clarington Quakes hockey team. She’s worked hard to earn the players’ respect, but the new coach, Trey Mason, is stirring things up, and Danni’s worried her job may be in jeopardy.

Trey finds Danni…distracting. Beauty, brains, and sexy moves on the ice have him uncomfortably attracted. He’s the new guy on the block. He has a reputation to build and a standard to set. The last thing he needs is a complication.

When the team spirals out of control and Danni and Trey get caught up in a drug scandal, things heat up on and off the ice. It’s a whole new game plan…Behind the Bench.

    Tech Tip

Keeping your home and computer safe from hackers starts by keeping your WiFi router secure. If you’ve never changed the default settings on your router – both the username and password – now’s the time to consider doing so.

If a hacker can figure out the model of your router, chances are they can crack your password if you haven’t changed it from the factory setting. Routers often share common default settings and a determined hacker can take advantage of weak points in a particular model’s security or sneak in using the default passwords.

Change your router’s username so that it doesn’t identify your service provider or your address. This makes it more challenging for a hacker to determine the type of router you’re using. The default password should also be changed. Annoying as it is to have a long password incorporating uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, it gives you an extra layer of protection since it’s harder to guess. For added security, the password should be changed regularly – when you change the clocks for daylight savings time, change your router password, too!

Here’s an additional tip: place your router in the middle of your home. Not only will it provide equal access to the WiFi signal throughout your home, it keeps the signal from spilling too widely outside the perimeter of your property, where it could be more vulnerable to attack.

Read Felicity's Power by J Arlene Culiner @JArleneCuliner #RLFblog #ContemporaryRomance #WomensFictionDon’t we all have a memory tucked away of someone we once loved, someone we just might have stayed with had the circumstances been right?

And what would happen if we came face-to-face with that person today? Would the magic still be there? Would our hands tremble, our knees knock together just the way they did back then? Or would we just stare, appalled, wonder how we could once have been so silly.

J Arlene Culiner welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Felicity’s Power

Felicity’s Power by J Arlene Culiner

    Genre Contemporary Romance/Women’s Literature

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Forty years ago, Marek Sumner and Felicity Powers fell in love at first sight, but relationships do demand a certain amount of sacrifice, and compromise. Marek wants marriage, security and a family; Felicity wants adventure. So, their love story ends… in a way…

Because, even after forty years of separation, Felicity never forgets Marek. She has spent her life as a foreign aid worker, has been in danger countless times, and has done exactly what she set out to do. Now she’s back, looking for Marek, and wanting to take up where they left off.

What does Marek think? Sure, he’s never forgotten Felicity. But start over? After all these years? No way. He’s too smart for that.

That’s not the sort of response Felicity can accept, and if they go spend a few days on the coast together, anything can happen.

San Francisco, 1971: hippies in the streets, music and revolution in the air. The evening Marek Sumner opened his door to the wild-looking Felicity Powers, he knew nothing would ever be the same. But even love and passion couldn’t keep them together. Forty-three years later, having lived in the world’s most dangerous places as an aid worker, Felicity is back, still offering love, passion, and adventure. Now a well-known author, Marek loves his calm life in an isolated farmhouse, and he knows their relationship would never work : he and Felicity are just too different. Besides, why risk having his heart broken a second time?

But Felicity is as fascinating and joyful as ever, and the wonderful sexy magic is still there too. Can love be more delightful the second time around?

    A Tip for Editing

The most important tip: cut. Don’t fall in love with your own words! Cut, cut, cut. Show the essentials and don’t risk boring your readers.

    Tips for Organizing

Don’t copy me. I’m hopeless at organizing. I live in a muddle. I am muddled. I lose my keys ten times a day; I lose the dog leashes twenty times a day; I lose all my writing notes constantly.

    Tips for Household Chores

Don’t do them. Dust never woke up and ate anyone. Dirty floors can be interesting. Why make a bed if you’re just going to mess it up again? Why own an iron (I don’t)? Wrinkled clothes make you look like a charmingly distracted writer. Why fold anything?

    Tip for Cooking

Make it yourself from scratch. It’s healthier, better tasting, cheaper, better for the planet, and it gives you thinking time (writing in your head while kneading bread dough is fun!)

Read the new romance Private Lessons by Karigan Hale @kariganspencil #RLFblog #romanceRead a new hot novella from Karigan Hale: Private Lessons During Lockdown. An empty school. A yearning for human touch. Can two educators find lust and love during a pandemic? Part of the Love Under Lockdown series

Karigan Hale, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Private Lessons in Lockdown.

Private Lessons in Lockdown by Karigan Hale

    Genre Short Erotic Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

A year of flirting. An empty school. A need for human touch.

She’s a principal navigating this unprecedented time. He’s a teacher battling his attraction to his boss. Should he resist when she seduces him?

Brock Richards, a teacher at Deerfield High, is called to the principal’s office when the entire school is empty. After realizing his sexy principal is wearing a garter belt, all of his principles disappear.

He can’t seduce his boss, but will he be able to resist if she seduces him?

Amanda Kincaid, principal of Deerfield High, has had her eye on the sexy Social Studies teacher for a year. Usually a confident, powerful, no-nonsense leader, Amanda’s naughty bits take over her brain when she’s around him. Is the mandatory school closure the chance she needs to show Brock she’s not just his boss, but a woman as well?

    Two Tips for Writing

Tip 1: Just write! I know people say this all the time, but honestly it is the best advice. When I’m in a rut, I pull out some random writing prompts and just write based on those – a scene, a character sketch, a moment. They don’t even have to be related to my current work in progress. Often these short sketches become part of later published works. And just like any other skill, writing will get easier, faster, and better with practice.

Tip 2: Write what you like. Yes, the paranormal reverse harem shifter romances are all the rage right now. But they aren’t what I enjoy reading. Therefore, if I tried to jump on that bandwagon, I’m sure I would fail miserably and the stories would be cliché, stilted, and forced. By writing in a genre I like to read, I completely understand the expectations of that genre and what the reader expects.

    Two Tips for Family

Here are two tips for Photographing your Family. I’m a hobbyist photographer and family historian. My kids call me Momarazzi because I’m always following them with my camera. In an era where images demand our attention, there are some easy ways you can get great photographs of your family even with your cell phone. For examples of these tips, check out my photography Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kariganske photography

Tip 1: Get down on the kids’ (or pet’s) level. Instead of always shooting down on them from your height, bend down and get on their level. This gives your viewer the perspective of your subject and brings them into the moment. It also lets you shoot straight on and capture the true essence of your subject.

Tip 2: Play! Not every shot should be a nice posed portrait. Try to capture your subject as they are being themselves. Instead of asking your child to look at the camera, move yourself to them and ask them questions instead. (What type of bird is that? What do you have in your hand? Show me a funny face) This will get authentic emotions/reactions and capture these fleeting everyday moments.

  • Mystery,  Two Tips

Read the Cozy Mystery Men’s Club Chaos by Karen Cino @karencino #RLFblog #CozyMystery

Read the Cozy Mystery Men's Club Chaos by Karen Cino @karencino #RLFblog #CozyMysterySenior amateur sleuths are at it again in Men’s Club Chaos, book #5 in the Cookie Cutter Cozy Culinary Mystery Romance Series by Karen Cino. Karen shares two tips that help her stay organized.

Karen, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Men’s Club Chaos (Cookie Cutter Cozy Mystery Series Book 5).

Men’s Club Chaos by Karen Cino

    Genre Cozy Mystery Culinary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG17

Connie and Sara are preparing to bring cookie samples for the men’s club Thanksgiving dinner. An explosion at the water towers send the women running to the scene.

After visit Kent and taking his order, Connie and Sara go down to the water tower to see if they can find out what caused the explosion.

A few hours later while Connie and Brett are at dinner they receive a call that Ken is dead after eating Connie’s cookies. It is up to Sara to track down the killer to clear Connie of the murder.

Who said that two women sleuths can’t get into massive trouble.

    Two Tips for Writing

The most important tip is to write everyday. This helps build our momentum and gives you a rush of wanting to write everyday.

Writing with you know is often harder than you think. Make certain to research even on a subject or occupation you know. What you did twenty years ago is totally different today.

    Two Tips for Editing

I find reading my manuscript outlaid helps you find a variety of errors, especially in grammar and repeat words and phrases. After I finish a book, I put it on the side for a week or two before going back.

It’s important to have a character sketch and timeline along side you to find mistakes. For instance the character starts off with dark brown eyes and halfway through the book it changes to hazel. I keep a character sketch for physical description and general information on each character.

    Two Tips for Organizing

When writing a series, keep all your characters together. I have a notebook for my series. I like flipping through pages to see who previous characters are if I’m going to use them again in another book. (Besides the main characters.)

I also keep a tote back with the current book I’m working on along with my notebooks and timelines.

    Two Tips for Timesavers

Have all your notes on your work in progress in one place. Like a previously said, I keep my notes in a binder and notebook. Try to keep your work schedule at the same time everyday. I generally write from eleven in the morning until three or four. I set a word goal and go for it.

    Two Tips for Family

Talk to your family members about boundaries. I find that a lot of times family members take our writing as a joke because we’re not getting paid a “big” or shall I say “small” weekly salary. Let them understand this is your passion.

If you’re going to get up early or stay up late to write, let your family know that during this time you do not want to be bothered. No you are not making them coffee or entertaining them. Ask them to respect your time, especially if you are writing during your quiet time of the morning or night. (I know. Easier said than done.)

    Two Tips for Household Chores

The house will be standing long after we’re all gone. But seriously, I clean my house every Saturday and Sunday morning. The bathroom I do everyday. This way it is always clean and I never go to bed with dishes in the sink. If you have kids, again you have to set boundaries. You don’t expect them to scrub your bathroom floors, but they should be responsible for cleaning up after themselves. And if they are using your car, then you have a great bargaining tool. lol I used that for years. But now that it’s just my husband and I, we share the chores, keep the house neat except for all my papers all over the living room.

    Two Tips for Cooking

I find cooking for two days works out great for me. A lot of people don’t like leftovers, but if it’s cooking a meal and cleaning pots and pans every night, I learned to eat leftovers and so has my husband. Again, clean up as you go along and you won’t waste any undo additional time. Or when all else fails: Order out!!!

Brenda Sparks author of Alpha Revealed, shares a #TechTip for passwords @brenda_sparks #RLFblogBrenda, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We want to hear your tech tip, but first, please tell us about Alpha Revealed.

    Alpha Revealed by Brenda Sparks

    Genre Paranormal Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Natasha Peterhoff is the luckiest vampire in the world. Having pined over the sexy, but aloof Vladimir Starikovich for centuries, her feelings are reciprocated when the pair are drawn to each other the night of her brother’s wedding. Unfortunately, the stark light of day dawns, and the couple parts ways.
Back in Siberia, Vlad is overcome by doubts. Not only will Natasha’s brother kill him, but his own past is reason enough to keep her away. He vows to do everything in his power to keep her safe, even it if means never seeing her again.
With so many reasons to stay apart, will the ties that bind be strong enough to pull them together?

    Tech Tip

Happy Father’s Day! Here is a tech tip that I hope everyone, not just fathers, will find useful. I know Vladimir, the hero in Alpha Revealed, would have appreciated hearing this tip, especially after his baby was born.

Many of us have video cameras attached to our Wi-Fi. Perhaps you have a video doorbell or security camera. Maybe you there is a baby monitor in your home with video capabilities. If you have any of these, you must be careful. Hackers are using these cameras to spy on homeowners. You’d be amazed what hackers can find out about you just by watching and listening in.

A strong password is the key to keep the hackers out of your life, whether it’s a website you frequent, your social media, or even the video camera in your home. Most everything we do now requires a password, and while it can be tricky to memorize a bunch of complicated passwords, it’s necessary to keep you and your family safe.

Here are some tips for creating a password:

Make it long — This is the most important factor. Make it at least 15 characters or more if possible.

Use a mix of characters — Use a combination of uppercase and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Avoid common substitutions — Password crackers are hip to the usual substitutions. Whether you use DOORBELL or D00R8377, a brute force attacker can hack your account/device easily.

Don’t use sequential letters and/or numbers —For example, avoid ABCDEF or 456789, and do not use sequential keyboard paths either (like qwerty).

Long, complicated passwords can be difficult to memorize. Try stringing what seem like random words and numbers together then make a sentence to help you remember them. For example, if your password was Battery10horsescar, you might remember it by memorizing the sentence, A battery of 10 horses pulled the car.

Of course, you can also use an app to store your passwords, eliminating the need to memorize anything. Password manager apps can be downloaded onto your phone. Many will give you the ability to store passwords, as well as, user login info and credentials. Many will also sync the information across your desktop, mobile devices, and browsers. Some password manager apps can even allow you to share a login information with another person. These apps can be a time saver by storing all your information in one place. You don’t need to go hunting for a password, because it’s there at your fingertips with a press of a button.

Don’t make it easy for the hackers. Do whatever you must to keep you and your family safe. I know Vladimir would.

Authors, check out Strong Verbs Strong Voice by Ann Everett @TalkinTwang #RLFblog #nonfiction #ameditingAnn Everett, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Strong Verbs Strong Voice.

Strong Verbs Strong Voice by Ann Everett

    Genre non-fiction

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

Without verbs, where would a story go? Nowhere. Characters, animals, and nature can’t be or do anything without a verb. Characters can’t laugh, animals can’t attack, and trees can’t sway in the breeze. Verbs provide excitement, drive the narrative, and paint vivid pictures.

Why say she looked, if she can gawk, spy, or examine? The familiar choice offers vague action, where the stronger selections show action and expression. The right verb can illustrate the character’s state of mind, mood, as well as physical characteristics.

Inside this book, you’ll find stronger choices listed in alphabetical order for commonplace verbs such as enter, walk, ran, took, etc. This quick reference will help you use more descriptive verbs to convey better images in the reader’s mind.

    Two Tips for Editing

#1 I use the word lists in Strong Verbs Strong Voice to do a ‘search and find’ to replace all the common action verbs I tend to overuse in first drafts. It’s how the book came about. I found myself using the same verbs way too much and thought other writers might find it helpful to have a list.

#2 My last pass in editing is to use the ReadAloud program I downloaded from Windows. Hearing the work helps me find mistakes I can’t see.

    Two Tips for Cooking

#1 If you freeze whole lemons and limes, zesting them will be easier. Then you can defrost the fruit in the microwave to use the juice.

#2 If you’re like me, you hate to waste food. So, if you have some overripe bananas and no time to make banana bread, freeze them. Then when you’re ready to bake, microwave them on high for one minute. The peels should slip off and the fruit is ready for baking. You can also cut them up and store in plastic bags to use in smoothies as needed.
