    New Beginnings by Karen Cino

    Genre Contemporary Cozy Mystery Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Book 1: After a traumatic event in her life, Connie Acosta heads down to the Jersey Shore to stay with her friend, Sara Mazza, who lives in a fifty-five and over community. For Connie, this is a temporary stop until she figures out what she wants to do.

Connie and Sara have a brief discussion and decide to start the baking business they had spoken about decades before. But things take a dramatic turn when Sara gets Connie involved in a mysterious adventure at the clubhouse.

Book 2: Connie Acosta is officially a resident in the fifty-five and older community her best friend Sara Mazza lives in. Her baker’s kitchen is almost complete and she has met Vic, another resident who is crazy about her. Meanwhile, Sara finds herself in the mist of a love triangle with Vic’s friend Jack and Warren, a police officer at the local station.

When Sara received a call from her friend at the clubhouse saying there is a dead body floating in the outdoor pool, the women rush there to check things out, getting themselves involved in another investigation, especially when Sara finds a few blue pills scattered in the grass that she didn’t turn into the police.

Book 3: All is quiet at the fifty-five and older community where Connie Acosta is running her illegal bakery out of best friend Sara Mazza’s garage. Both women swore off getting involved in any police business at the compound. Just as the two amateur sleuths are enjoying a night out in the clubhouse ballroom, a scream from the lounge draws them into the middle of a police investigation with Warren and Brett, their current partners. Who said seniors can’t get into trouble and fall in love again?

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…

Yes, I do. I write Women’s Fiction, Contemporary Romance and Cozy Mysteries with a twist or romance.

How do you come up with ideas?…

Sometimes I wake up and remember a fragment of a dream and go with it. (Like in my novel Roses.) Other times I can be walking down the street and something catches my eye that leads to a scene. I have so many ideas written down for books. I always take a notebook along with me so that I can write down idea. Pulling over on the side of a highway is always an option when an idea strikes.

What is the single most important part of writing for you?…

It is important that I write about a subject that readers can relate to. A HEA ending is always nice, but the relationships prior to meeting that special someone will help to make in your decision making.

When did you write your first book?…

I wrote my first book when I was in high school. I still have those handwritten notebooks that should have had history notes in it. My next book I wrote while I was in college. (I still have the original typewritten manuscript. But my first real book I wrote when my son was an infant and had his nights and days mixed up. I would handwrite in the middle of the night and type the next day when he napped.

    FUN

    Leather or lace? Leather

    Black or red? Red

Satin sheets or smooth cotton? Smooth cotton

Ocean or mountains? Definitely the Ocean. I love the beach!

City life or country life? City life.

Party life or evening at home? A quiet evening at home.

Dogs or cats? I am an animal lover so I have to say both.

Love Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me by Lyndi Alexander

    Genre paranormal romance/mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Running away isn’t necessarily the answer.
In her mad rush to escape a failed marriage, Sara Woods takes the first job available and lands in the middle of a mystery. Her first assignment as a news reporter for the Ralston Courier is the investigation of a string of deaths, all young women, all her age.
She becomes a patient at the Goldstone Clinic, a local mecca of healing, to deal with chronic pain from her past. But all is not as it seems at the Goldstone, its doctors and nurses are all the picture of perfect beauty and health. Patients at the clinic first seem to get better, then they deteriorate. Sara enlists the help of Dr. Rick Paulsen, who teaches her how to access her internal power, skills she never knew she had, revealing secrets from her past. The closer they work together, the more she falls in love with him. Police officer Brendon Zale also takes an interest in Sara, but he acts like a stalker, watching her every move, and he won’t leave her alone.
As she digs deeper into the story, and more young women die without explanation, she tries to choose allies wisely, but not till the last confrontation does she discover the identity of her true enemy.
    By then, it’s too late.

    Introducing Sara Woods

    Please tell me about yourself.

    Age: 24

    Gender: female

Birthplace: a small town in Pennsylvania

    Profession: newspaper journalist

    Ethnicity: Caucasian

    What do you look like?

Petite, short dark brown hair, wide brown eyes. Not model-pretty, but I catch people’s attention

Who is the significant other in your life?

It used to be my husband Jesse. But that’s over. So now I’ve met Rick Paulsen, a tall young blond doctor with Brad-Pitt blue sapphire eyes—my downfall.

    How do you dress?

Definitely casual and comfortable. The life of a reporter is pretty hectic. You never know where you’re going to end up in the course of a day, especially with an editor like mine. One minute you could be in City Hall and the next, in a cow barn!

On what special skills do you rely?

Mostly I work by my intuition—what I feel in my gut. When you’re working for a newspaper, sometimes you’re doing a story people want you to do, and sometimes you’re uncovering something awful. You have to know when people are telling you the truth. If you don’t think they are, then you have to cross-check and do your research to be able to bring your readers the truth.

What kinds of things do you always carry (in pockets or purse)?

I always have a pen and a notebook. You never know when you’re going to get a quote from someone—it’s important to have the reputation of getting things right.

    Are you close to family?

No, my parents have passed on, and there really isn’t anyone else. That’s why I packed up and left Pittsburgh after the divorce. I had nowhere to “go home” to, so I just grabbed the first newspaper job I could find.

How well do you know your neighbors?

My landlady, Thelma McCracken, lives downstairs, and I have the apartment in the upstairs of her house. She used to be a reporter for the Courier back in the day, and she has a finger in just about every pot in town. She’s a great source for material, and she also worries about me like an old maiden aunt.

What would you like people who hear your story to know?

That you never know everything about someone, even if you love them with all your heart. Protect yourself and stay safe.

    The Boardwalk by Karen Cino

    Genre Contemporary romantic mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG17

After an accident at work, Brooklyn DeMelli walks every day down at the boardwalk as a way to keep active and have a semi normal social life. She meets up with the regular morning walkers, while enjoying the beauty of the beach and the scent of the ocean. To keep busy she started her own company, making beaded jewelry for parties and flea markets. Mario Morales is the hippy that plays acoustic guitar every morning at different ends of the boardwalk. The music captivates Brooklyn. Following the muse, she meets Mario who turns out to be a narcotics detective working undercover on a huge investigation. When Mario finds out Brooklyn is inadvertently involved in a drug trafficking ring, it leads to a series of events, which puts Brooklyn’s life in jeopardy, while forming a romantic bond between them.

What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?

My favorite meal is anything with eggplant, turkey meatloaf and chicken cutlets.

    Describe the perfect vacation.

My perfect vacation is going to Sicily and sitting on the beach with my feet in the water of the Mediterranean. Throwing a backpack on and walking the narrow cobblestone streets, visiting street fairs and markets.

    What are your hobbies?

I’m pretty boring. I enjoy walking, reading and watching the Hallmark channel and HGTV. In the summer, I do gardening and especially enjoy my herb garden.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I read Women’s Fiction and Cozy Mysteries. In between I’ll read Stephen King for a change of pace.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

I do a lot of research on the internet. I also go out and scope the area I’m writing about. I like to write about places where people can relate to. Since I moved down to the New Jersey Shore, I have moved my characters from the Staten Island Boardwalk down to the white sands of the shore.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I’m fourteen years old. I wrote my first short story when I was a freshman in high school. Since then, writing has been my whole life.

What was your first published book?

My first book published was Roses. Roses is a Women’s Fiction Contemporary Romance with Romantic Elements.

Tell us about your writing space or home office.

I recently finished my office adding lights. I bought two new book cases to make that eight bookcases in total. My parents bought me my desk and I put my apple desk top on it. I use it to edit because the screen is big but I write on my laptop.

    Anything special about your space?

I can see out the side window and it’s the first office space that I’m completely happy with.

What do you love most about that area?

I love the fact that it has a french door, which I can close and block out the television coming from the other room.

What would like to change about your home office?

I’d like to have all my bookcases in the room with me. I also would love to have one chalk wall so I can make my notes all in one place.

If money was no object, what would your home office look like?

It would like like something out of HGTV. I’d probably hire the Property Brothers to make me a big space with my own wet bar and coffee station!

What office equipment do you use most, other than your computer?

I use my printer. I print out whatever a wrote for the day. When I do my edits I have to have a hard copy. I have two prints.

What do you think is a must have for an efficient office?

Most important feature of an efficient office is privacy. Once I get going, there can be a high school band playing behind me and it wouldn’t interrupt me. But I need quiet to start so I can focus.

    Are you a writing mom/dad?

My kids are now on their own. But I was a writing mom when I wrote my first seven books.

How do you juggle writing and family?

I always made it a point to find an hour a day to write. I always put myself on a 1000 word a day schedule, which I still keep today. Some days I’ll write 1000 words and other days I can right up to 3000 words. But it essential to have a schedule.

What book or books about writing do you recommend for new authors?

I’d recommend any of the books the Writers Digest Books. Every one has been a fountain of information to me. I still refer to many of them when I’m stuck. Joining writers groups is another way to learn. I belong to Romance Writers of America, Women Fiction Writers Association and Liberty States Fiction Writers. There are so many groups. If your a mystery writer there’s Sisters in Crime. You can find multiple online genres through Romance Writers of America.

What do you like to read for relaxation?

I read women’s fiction, lots of cozy mysteries and you can never go wrong with a Stephen Kind novel.

Do you have an author newsletter?

Yes. If you would like to receive my quarterly newsletter you can sign up here: http://http://bit.ly/2V4OEQL

Radical Regatta! Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery #4 by Anna Celeste Burke

    Genre Cozy Mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Rescuing a dog that’s swimming for its life draws newlyweds, Kim and Brien, into troubled waters. As a crime wave hits Corsario Cove, the area is packed with visitors for a Fourth of July Regatta. With the murder of a shadowy figure Kim and Brien had confronted more than once, the game that’s afoot turns deadly. It won’t be smooth sailing for anyone until these twenty-something sleuths solve the mystery behind the murder and mayhem.

Meet Archie from Radical Regatta! Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery #4

    Full name: Archie

    Nickname: Archie

    Gender: Male

    Species: Dog

Physical description: A young, dark brown and white Portuguese Water Dog with soft, downy fur.

Relationship to main character: This is the dog Kim and Brien rescue that’s at the center of a mystery.

Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Someone’s determined to get their hands on the dog.

Where this furbaby came from: Found alone, in the Pacific Ocean just outside Corsario Cove; his owners are missing

What inspired you to create this character?

A dog swimming alone in open water seemed like a mysterious situation infused with urgency. It appealed to me as a great way to kick off a new book set in the imaginary coastal community of Corsario Cove where my surf-loving sleuths live. Plus, the protagonists’ compassionate character and youthful impulsiveness is quickly revealed when they put themselves at risk to save the poor dog and then try to learn how he was he happened to be lost at sea.

What does the main character think about this furbaby?

It’s love, at first sight, for Kim and Brien. They try not to get too attached to Archie—the name they give him. His owners must be desperate to get their loveable pooch back—if they’re still alive.

What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?

Someone wants Archie back, but it’s not clear who it is or why.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

Archie’s a charmer and most everyone he meets—except the bad guys—fall for his affable nature. His courage and determination to swim to shore amaze those who meet him, too.

What does this furbaby add to the story?

He’s such a sweet, happy dog that I hope he charms readers and that they cheer Kim and Brien along as they try to keep him safe and find out how he ended up abandoned at sea. Like food and humor, an adorable pet like Archie is a great counterpoint to the murder and mayhem at the center of a cozy mystery.

Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.

Archie has a very special, rather naughty animal pal in this story.

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Archie and his pal get into all sorts of trouble as they become fast animal friends.

About Coco–my only furbaby at the moment

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Archie from Radical Regatta! by Anna Celeste Burke @aburke59 @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

Coco, my seal point Siamese cat, is a model for one of the two cats in my Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery series. My little 8-pound Coco is a sweet, cuddly cat, but he has the biggest mouth on any cat I’ve ever owned or met! Like Georgie’s cat Miles—as in Miles Davis—when my Coco bellows, it’s like a trumpet blast!

What do your pets do when you are writing?

Coco sometimes sits on the back of the chair in which I write. He also naps and, of course, bellows every once in a while, demanding attention or a treat.

What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?

    A large iguana.

Where did you find your pet?

Coco came from a woman near where I used to live in Ohio. She breeds Siamese cats, but Coco was part of an unplanned litter of Siamese cats.

What do you feed your pet?

Coco just turned eight years old this month. Officially a “senior” cat, I’ve recently switched him to a diet that will be easier on his kidneys and aims to prevent urinary tract problems. He loves turkey, chicken, and Bonita flakes.

Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.

Coco is a real fan of strings—We watch to make sure we don’t leave anything with strings on it unattended. He especially likes it when I play with him using a string that dangle feathers. He jumps and tries so hard to catch the feather, sometimes after sneaking up on it by crawling on his belly. Coco also enjoys independent play tossing a play mouse into the air and chasing after it. Crinkly paper is a great pleasure to him, too!

Shout out to Rob’s Rescues – founded by a 9-year-old animal activist

Rob’s Rescues is a non-profit organization in Georgia helping people in need care for and feed their pets. It was founded in 2014 by a then nine-year-old boy. Rob’s Rescues is dedicated to collecting pet food for people in need to reduce shelter surrenders, and to advocating for the adoption of shelter pets. Rob writes monthly articles advocating for shelter animals in the Around About Local Media magazine publications. His column was first published in 2014. He also has pet food collection sites for people in need in the community and interviews amazing people. His interviews appear online once they are published in his column.
Rob volunteers for Pet Buddies Food Pantry, the Cherokee County Animal Shelter and Cobb County Animal Control and collects pet food for these organizations and the communities they serve. He also wants to bring attention to smaller, rural shelters. Mostly he wants to get kids to be Rob’s Rangers to teach kids that they can help shelter animals. Rob has also talked to kids in a classroom setting.
Rob’s Rescues is a Non-Profit Corporation and all donations are tax deductible.

Shout out to our three non-profit animal rescue shelters!

The Summer Snoops Unleashed box set is a labor of love by 14 authors hoping to raise money for three no-kill shelters with a special interest finding fur-ever homes for senior/disabled/special need pets.
    Streetdog Foundation, Memphis, Tn.
Streetdog Foundation began with a phone call. When founders Melanie and Kent were asked by a friend at another organization to check Memphis Animal Services for a lost American Bull Dog, their one-hour task turned into a lifelong mission (not to mention the rescue of three shelter dogs at the same time).

Since that transformational day, Streetdog Foundation has rescued more than 750 endangered dogs from the streets and shelters of Memphis, all without a dedicated structure to house them. Streetdog relies on volunteer foster families to not only provide homes for our dogs, but also give them the love, security, and confidence they need to succeed in their forever homes. Whether temporarily fostering or adopting one of our rescues, everyone who takes in a Streetdog becomes part of our family.

And because we’re focused on the well-being of all the canine and human members of our family, Streetdog’s primary goal is to find the right fit for both the dog and the household. We are not a first-come, first-served rescue; our volunteers work diligently to make sure every match has the highest chance of success. We appreciate your interest and hope the compassionate vision that brought Streetdog Foundation into being will inspire you to join us however you can.
Northshore Humane Society, North of New Orleans, LA
Northshore Humane Society is one of Louisiana’s largest 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organizations. Since 1953, we have been serving the neglected and abandoned animals of the Northshore region. We are an independent, non-governmental rescue that offers veterinary care, fostering, adoption, and more. We rely solely on the support of caring people like you to fund our programs and services which profoundly benefit the animals of our community. Thank you for all your support!
Home Fur Good, Maricopa County near Phoenix, AZ.
Our mission is to end euthanasia of cats and dogs in Maricopa County through pet adoptions, medical care, promotion of spay and neuter procedures and pet owner education. What we do matters.
