Now, tell us Yes or No for each answer below. Feel free to explain any (or none) of your answers.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
No. I have three novellas, one short novel, and one longer novel, the first book in this series, available for fans of Regency romance.
this book is part of a series?
Yes, this is Book Two in The Sons of the Spy Lord series.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
Yes! I often have to write down ideas that come to me just as I’m falling asleep.
you did research for this book?
Yes, lots and lots! The history of Ireland is fascinating. I also did research on horses and London sewers.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
Yes. There are two horses important to the story.
this book has more than one genre?
Yes, the story is primarily romance, but there is some suspense.
you speak more than one language?
Yes, sort of, LOL! English is my native language but I also speak Spanish (badly) some German (from my college days and also badly), and I used to be able to manage some French. Use it or lose it, as they say.
you grew up where you live now?
No. I’ve been in California for over 35 years, but I’m originally from the Midwest. I miss those Midwestern autumns and springs, not so much the cold winters and steamy summers!
    you love to read?
Yes. And I’m particularly drawn to historical fiction with romance and adventure.
    you are never late?
Yes, that’s pretty much true. That’s partly from a lifetime of working in a highly structured environment plus my husband’s influence. He’s fanatically on time.
    you love pizza?
LOVE pizza, yes. I like a thin crust with lots of cheese and vegies. I could probably eat pizza every day.
    you love sushi?
No. I’ve never been able to figure out the appeal of that dish. But, I’ve never acquired a taste for seafood, either. You order the sushi and I’ll get pizza!
    you have a pet?
Yes, I have 2 pets, a dog and a cat.

The Pleasure Device by Regina Kammer @Kammerotica #RLFblog #historicalromanceToday’s featured book is The Pleasure Device by Regina Kammer.

In Victorian London of 1879, a new device for the treatment of hysteria has just arrived from France. Dr. Julius Christopher plans to use the invention for his own salacious scheme. Can Dr. Nicholas Ramsay prevent his beloved, the virginal debutante Helena Phillips, from being the next patient?

    The Doctor and The Debutante

Nicholas Ramsay, renouncing his aristocratic heritage and dark past, has chosen a career as a doctor. He arrives in London ready to embark upon his practice and find a suitable wife.

Helena Phillips, born into scandal and disgrace, is making her London debut. To atone for the circumstances of her birth, she must find a titled husband—no less than an earl will do.

    A Dangerous Passion

Nicholas and Helena’s chance encounter during the Season leads to a dangerous attraction—and forbidden explorations. A taste of passion leaves Helena longing for more, and her lovesick wretchedness is confused for hysteria, a mysterious ailment afflicting many Victorian women.

    A Devious Scheme

Dr. Julius Christopher’s new electro-mechanical vibrating machine for the treatment of hysteria is the perfect device to test his radical theory of female sexuality. To fully explore his hypothesis, he requires a virgin and seeks to ensnare Helena for his experiment.

    Can He Save Her?

Nicholas is determined to rescue Helena from the clutches of Dr. Christopher. But to prove he is worthy of Helena’s hand, Nicholas must reconcile with his past, embrace his future, and show her pleasure is more profound when coupled with love.

    The Harwell Heirs

Victorian aristocracy has very strict rules concerning marital connections and familial obligations. But the Harwell heirs—Helena, Sophia, and Arthur—discover love doesn’t always follow the rules. Scandalous affairs force these scions of society to choose between duty and desire, deference and destiny.

For Love of the Earl by Jessie Clever @JessieClever #RLFblog #Regencyromance

For Love of the Earl by Jessie Clever @JessieClever #RLFblog #Regency #romanceToday’s featured book is For Love of the Earl, a Regency romance by Jessie Clever.

Fans of both historical romance and historical women’s fiction will love this smart, witty, and suspenseful series from bestselling author Jessie Clever. If you like Lauren Willig, Deanna Raybourn, or Amanda Quick, you’re going to fall in love with this author.

Sarah Black, the Countess of Stryden, and spy for the British War Office, kidnapped by the French and imprisoned on a ship in the English Channel, has but one complaint: having to share a prison cell with her husband. Forced into the marriage to help her carry out missions as a female spy, Sarah struggles with accepting her position as a member of high society, a position that seems ill-gained in relation to her lowly birth. The fact that she is secretly in love with her husband, the earl, does not help matters at all.

Alec Black, Earl of Stryden, and brilliant spy for the British War Office, cannot speak to his wife, which makes for a rather uncomfortable imprisonment. Unable to grasp the reason for his wife’s utter disdain for him, four years of marriage has brought no closer to knowing how to make Sarah love him.

But when the deadly game of espionage threatens their only chance at a future together, the only thing left to understand is love.

The books in the Spy Series:

    1/2. Inevitably a Duchess (A prequel novella)
    1. Son of a Duke
    2. For Love of the Earl

Is It True: Love and Mayhem by Luanna Stewart @luanna_stewart #RLFblog #historical romancePlay Is It True with today’s guest Luanna Stewart, author of Love and Mayhem, a Historical Romance. This is a game in which authors answer yes and no questions. They can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

First, tell us about your book.
Sybil is happily on the shelf, tending to her sheep. But she fears she’ll depart this life without experiencing physical love, which she suspects is rather enjoyable. When her long-lost fiancé returns from sea, she decides he’s the lucky man who’ll receive her virginity.
Max is eager to return to his sugar plantation and has no intention of remaining long in London. However, he didn’t bargain on a wilful, pretty, exasperating spinster determined to take him to her bed.
He insists on marriage but she wants only his body. Her heart is not part of the deal. Unfortunately, love doesn’t always follow the rules.
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
    Genre: historical romance
Now, tell us Yes or No for each answer below. Feel free to explain any (or none) of your answers.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
No, I’ve written many books, and have previously published two full-length novels (one a romantic suspense and one an historical romance) and three novellas (contemporary romance).
this book is part of a series?
Yes, this is the first in a series. I’ve just contracted the second in the series, Love and Turmoil, and hope it will be out before the end of the year.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
No, I can’t say that I lost sleep, but the characters and the plot were my constant companions until long after the book was finished. I’m considering writing a short story about Max and Sybil’s life a few years later because I want to visit with them again.
you did research for this book?
Oh, yes, lots and lots of research. That’s my favorite part of writing historical fiction. I especially enjoy searching for an obscure tidbit that I can include in the story.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
Hm…not in the book exactly, but sheep are extremely important to Sybil. And there’s a question about fleas. Oh, and a very interesting conversation about fruit bats.
this book has more than one genre?
    No, just historical romance.
you speak more than one language?
No, alas, I’ve lost most of my childhood French. As a Canadian, with French being the official second language, I was instructed in French from grade three thru grade 12. I remember enough to locate a bathroom or a library, LOL.
you grew up where you live now?
Yes, but only recently. We moved back to Nova Scotia a few months ago.
    you love to read?
Yes! I can’t imagine not reading. I’ve been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. I even belonged to a children’s book club and can remember my feeling of joy when I got home from school to find a new book in the mail.
    you are never late?
I HATE being late and usually leave early to avoid it.
    you love pizza?
Yes. Pretty much any topping except pineapple – I don’t understand that one at all.
    you love sushi?
No. But I have to confess that I’ve never tried it, nor will I ever. I have a psychological block to the concept of eating raw fish, or any other type of raw animal protein.
    you have a pet?
Yes, two cats: Mogget, a girl, and Bruno, a boy. She’s a princess and he’s a simple soul.

  • 5 Easy Questions,  Regency

Unmasking Lady Helen: Kinsey Family #1 Maggi Andersen @maggiandersen #RLFblog #RegencyRomance

Unmasking Lady Helen: Kinsey Family #1 Maggi Andersen @ymaggiandersen #RLFblog #RegencyRomanceMaggi Andersen author of Unmasking Lady Helen – The Kinsey Family Book One answers five easy questions.

    Please tell us about yourself.
Maggi Andersen fell in love with the Georgian and Regency worlds while reading the books of Georgette Heyer. After studying for a BA and an MA in Creative Writing, she decided to write her own. She has written over 25 novels and novellas and is working on her third Regency series. Maggi also writes historical mysteries, contemporary romantic suspense, and two young adult novels. Her books are constant bestsellers on Amazon and many have been nominated for awards. Maggi’s free time is spent feeding the local wildlife, reading, gym, movies, and BBC2. She lives in the beautiful Southern Highlands of Australia.
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
Roast lamb with mint sauce, broccoli, pumpkin, and baked potatoes. Apple pie and cream.
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
I’m presently reading Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child. Reacher is a ruthless killer, but with a sense of honor. He coolly works through any problems he faces, and at 6 ft 5 and two-fifty pounds with a 50″ chest, and ‘assassin’s blue eyes’, he’s definitely hot. If I was ever in danger, I’d want him around. I’m considering basing a Regency hero on him. I think he’d make a very good one.
    Describe the perfect vacation.
A villa in the south of France, enjoying the local wines and food. Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. Popping over to Cannes for the film festival.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?.
Romantic suspense, and mysteries, either historical or contemporary.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
My research tends to wander from the language of flowers to a recipe for casseroled grouse. Terrible time waster. I’m writing a contemporary romantic suspense so I’m researching hand guns. One that fits in a lady’s handbag. For my Regency series, anything about spies, the Prince of Wales, his court, customs, fashions, food and architecture, plus the Napoleonic era. I have some wonderful books with glossy pictures of English estates and gardens.
Please tell us about your latest book.

Sometimes the biggest risk we take is with our hearts.
    1821 London
At twenty-four, Lady Helen Kinsey has her future carefully mapped out. A life of gentle quietude in the country caring for her unmarried brothers and walking with her dog. It does not include marriage, a dream she banished after her first Season. But when a handsome earl enters Kinsey House in London on a mission to find out why their footman was poisoned, she finds herself drawn into solving the mystery. And despite resistance on her part worthy of an army maneuver, she is irresistibly drawn to the earl himself.

After Whitehall receives a letter warning of a plot against the Crown, Jason, Captain Lord Peyton, is sent to investigate. Surely the famous explorer, Lord Lawrence Kinsey could not be behind it. He is engrossed in roaming ancient libraries and tombs in the East and bringing back their treasures for the museum. But after Peyton finds a fragment of a burned letter it appears that something dangerous lurks in Kinsey House, and Peyton becomes determined to keep the defenseless family safe, and one member particularly. Lady Helen has built a wall around herself and holds him at arm’s length. But arm’s length is not where Peyton wants to be.

As the mystery unfolds it becomes imperative for Peyton and Lady Helen to work together, very closely indeed.
