The Mad Monk’s Treasure follows the hunt for a long-lost treasure in the New Mexico desert. In The Skeleton Canyon Treasure, sparks fly when reader favorites Camie and Tiger help a mysterious man track down his missing uncle. Whispers in the Dark features archaeology and intrigue among ancient Southwest ruins. What We Found is a mystery with strong romantic elements about a young woman who finds a murder victim in the woods. In Counterfeits, stolen Rembrandt paintings bring danger to a small New Mexico town.

    Interview with Kris Bock

Why did you write this book?
I live in New Mexico and I love outdoor activities such as hiking and rock climbing. I’m also fascinated by stories of buried or lost treasures, and there are many of those throughout the Southwest. My Southwest Treasure Hunters novels combine stories of treasure hunts with outdoor adventures.
The first book in the collection, The Mad Monk’s Treasure, was inspired by the legend of the Victorio Peak Treasure: a heretic Spanish priest’s gold mine, made richer by the spoils of bandits and an Apache raider. It introduced Camie as the main character’s best friend, and it also included Camie’s extraordinary cat Tiger. They make minor appearances in the second book, The Dead Man’s Treasure. My latest title features Camie and Tiger in a new adventure, inspired by another legend: the Skeleton Canyon Treasure. Each of the Southwest Treasure Hunters novels stands alone in this series mixing action and adventure with light romance.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I read pretty widely, from classic mysteries and cozy mysteries to romantic suspense, historical romance, and middle grade novels. In any genre, I tend to prefer plot-driven novels with plenty of action but not much violence.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
I pondered this for a while and could not come up with an answer. I like to become the character when I’m reading, so I like relatively ordinary people who are put in unusual circumstances.
What are you working on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
I write a lot of children’s books for educational publishing, so I have a number of fiction and nonfiction books for kids coming out in the next year or so. A fun one is The Genie’s Gift, a lighthearted action fantasy that draws on the mythology of The Arabian Nights. I write for children under the name Chris Eboch.
I’m also about to start a new cozy mystery series. The main character is a war correspondent forced into retirement at age 50 after being shot on the job. She returns to her hometown to live with her father and has to come to terms with her new life. Of course she gets dragged into mysteries, which she’ll be able to handle because of her background.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Camille Dagneau – beautiful, brilliant, and prickly – isn’t quick to trust, especially when a strange man has broken into her machine shop at night. Ryan MacAllister insists he’s merely looking for his missing uncle, who has disappeared while hunting for a lost treasure. He believes Camie is the key to finding the treasure, and his uncle. Camie can ignore the attraction she feels, but she won’t pass up the chance for an adventure.
Following the clues in the missing man’s journal will take Ryan, Camie, and her feisty cat Tiger on a trail through New Mexico and Arizona. They’ll investigate the Tombstone graveyard at night, uncover clues in museums, and ultimately explore Skeleton Canyon, where rumor says nineteenth-century cowboy bandits hid their treasure in a cave. They’ll face many dangers to rescue Ryan’s uncle, but trusting each other may be the biggest challenge.
If you love suspense and romance, don’t miss this gripping adventure!

    About the Author
Olivia Night, a fictional character herself, has always been an avid reader and writer. She found the romance genre in college and has never been able to get enough. One sleepless night, the main characters of Book One in her Men of FTI  series sprang from her head fully formed. They demanded she tell their story; so she did. As they revealed themselves, so did two other intriguing characters. Those characters convinced her to give them their own books because their stories were worth telling too. And so Olivia suddenly became a romance author. When Olivia is not writing, she has the best job in the world, which, too, will remain a secret. In her free time, she reads, write, drinks wine, or is, most likely, out emulating Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Olivia lives in one of the most diverse and vibrant cities in the U.S.—Baltimore. She lives with her cat, which she is convinced was a gladiator in his past life. Olivia plans to continue being awesome at this thing called life. Really, that’s her only goal.

    About the Book

    Title The Scottish Diamond
    Genre Romantic Suspense Novella
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
What do you do when it seems you can’t trust anyone…even the man you love?
When Lizzie Smith starts rehearsing Macbeth with her theatre group in Edinburgh, she’s convinced the witches’ spells are the cause of a run of terrible luck. Lizzie’s bodyguard boyfriend, Léon, is mysteriously turned down for every job he applies for, until he’s finally offered the job of guarding “The Scottish Diamond,” a fabulous jewel from the country of Montverrier.
But the diamond’s previous guard in Edinburgh Castle has disappeared in mysterious circumstances. The Scottish Diamond has a history of intrigue and bloody murder, and Lizzie is plagued by nightmares in which Macbeth’s witches are warning her of danger. “Fair is foul and foul is fair…”
Then Lizzie discovers she’s being followed through the streets of Edinburgh, and it seems her worst fears are about to be realised…
The Scottish Diamond is a standalone story. Lizzie and Léon first met in the romantic suspense novella Palace of Deception, which is set in the Mediterranean country of Montverrier.

    Stressing The Hero

Every hero has a story. He has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a hero and get to know him better, by focusing on how he handles being relaxed, as well as how he handles stress.

    The Hero’s Relaxed Side

This hero is at a party. Considering his story, describe the party.
Léon Bressac is a bodyguard. He’s been invited to a glittering party at the Palace of Montverrier and is supposed to be off-duty, but he’s concerned about the safety of the heroine, Lizzie, who is acting the part of the princess.
How does the hero feel about being at this particular party, and what body language is he displaying that gives it away?
He wishes he could relax and mingle with the others but he’s on the alert for danger. He stays at the edge of the grand ballroom where he has the best view of what’s going on.
Is he more likely to mingle or remain aloof?
He remains aloof. His poor background in Italy also means he doesn’t feel totally comfortable socializing with the wealthy. He finds their conversation shallow.
If he drinks, what is his drink of choice at this party?
Léon is half-Italian and he loves red wine but has stuck to soft drinks at the party in order to keep a clear head.
How much drink is his usual?
He doesn’t usually drink a lot but when he’s off work and spending time in his house on the Italian coast, he feels more relaxed and likes a few glasses of Italian red wine.
The hero figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?
It’s because he needs to know who is a friend and who is a foe, and where people are at all times.
Is he likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is he the friend that others latch onto?
He’s the sort of man others latch onto.
If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the hero going to handle it?
He’s a trained bodyguard and so he’d be aware trouble was brewing before it started and would intervene before it got out of hand.
Is the hero the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?
The one that does the tossing!
Will he know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of himself?
He leaves when Lizzie leaves and he knows she’s safe.

    The Hero’s Stressed Out Side

How does the hero handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls him aside when he was blameless in a situation?
The hero has a troubled background and has been in trouble with the law. If he’s pulled over by the police he keeps quiet and says as little as possible.
How does the hero react to hearing a scream?
He runs toward the danger and hopes it isn’t the heroine screaming.
If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses his mind?
That he should step in and break it up.
If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing he does?
Grabs hold of the guy doing the beating.
This hero attempts to rescue someone and realizes that he is in over his head. The odds are against him and there is no way out. He is going to get his butt handed to him. What does he do?
The only time Léon ever panics is when he thinks Lizzie may leave him. If he thinks he’s over his head in a rescue situation he stays calm, takes a step back, and thinks things through with cold logic. He’s a patient man and he’ll wait for the right opportunity. If it doesn’t come he just defends himself as best he can.
The hero runs into the one person from his past he wanted to avoid. He can’t get out of the situation and must interact with him/her in some way. What does he do?
Léon runs into a few guys from his troubled past in The Scottish Diamond. He finds it hard to escape his background but he tries to speak to them in a way that shows he’s strong enough not to be dragged back down.
Someone younger than the hero is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the hero deal with it?
Great question. Léon has sympathy for young hot-heads – he was one himself. He talks to the guy in a calm way that avoids confrontation and lets the younger guy take the credit for his advice.
The hero is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does he tell himself in order to get through the situation?
In order to get through, he imagines himself with the heroine in the future, on the other side of his troubles, and the image keeps him strong.
What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?
“Ask not for smaller problems but for broader shoulders.” (Old proverb)
What lesson from his past gets him through a stressful situation?
I can’t say too much without revealing a twist in the end of The Scottish Diamond but Léon has learned the hard way that you should always choose the right path over the easy path.

    Re/Leased (Doms of the FBI 5) #RomanticSuspense @MZurloAuthor #RLFblog

This quick interview includes info about the author, and introduces the story.

    About the Author

I’m Michele Zurlo, author of over 20 romance novels. I write contemporary and paranormal, BDSM and mainstream—whatever it takes to give my characters the happy endings they deserve.
I’m not half as interesting as my characters. My childhood dreams tended to stretch no further than the next book in my to-be-read pile, and I aspired to be a librarian so I could read all day. I ended up teaching middle school, so that fulfilled part of my dream. Some words of wisdom from an inspiring lady had me tapping out stories on my first laptop, so in the evenings, romantic tales flow from my fingertips.
I’m pretty impulsive when it comes to big decisions, especially when it’s something I’ve never done before. Writing is just one in a long line of impulsive decisions that turned out to showcase my great instincts.

    Interview with Michele Zurlo

Why did you write this book?
When I first conceived of the Doms of the FBI series, I had envisioned four books—one for each Dom mentioned in the first book. Since then, the series has grown and readers have demanded more. In book 4, I introduced characters from a security company that is called in to help uncover corruption within the Bureau. With Re/Leased, I wanted to write about a heroine who had a history as a thief, and I wanted her to meet a Dom I hadn’t previously introduced. There’s all kinds of tension because his job is to find out who is stealing from his estranged father’s company, and she has a lot of secrets and a shady past. They’re perfect together, but trust and obstinacy are definitely issues they have to deal with. It’s sweet, feisty, heartbreaking, and heartwarming.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I love to read YA and nonfiction. My day job is as a middle school English teacher, so most of my reading has to do with books I think my students will like. The last book I read is Here in Harlem by Walter Dean Myers, which is a poetic imagining of a neighborhood during the Harlem Renaissance (my favorite period in literature.) Within the YA title, I’ll read pretty much anything.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
The Tenth Doctor. I hope TV shows count. I loved the way David Tennant portrayed Doctor Who. He took the role from the darkness of Chris Eccelston’s #9 (seizing on the hope #9 set in motion) and elevated it. He was funny, smart, and strong—everything a classic hero should be. I especially loved him with Donna/Catherine Tate. [Disclaimer: This is in no way intended to disparage any other Doctor portrayal.
What are you working on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
I am working on finishing the draft for Re/Viewed (DFBI 6), which I hope is finished by the time this is published. I have a tentative publication date of Dec 2016. I also hope that by the time this is live, I have finished a short story for a cowboy anthology with RB4U. Lastly, I should (if I’m still on schedule) be brainstorming the first book in the SAFE Security series, a spinoff of the Doms of the FBI series, featuring David and Autumn, the same couple you’ll get to know in Re/Leased. Their story is just getting started, and I’m hoping to have it ready to go in early 2017.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Honoring a promise he made to his late mother, David Eastridge, part owner of SAFE Security, returns home one final time—to help his father find the culprit responsible for embezzling three million dollars from his company. It should be an easy job—his father already has a suspect in mind.
After a series of tragic events that robbed her of a father and put her sister in a coma, Autumn Sullivan was forced to take on several jobs just to get by. She’s an accounting assistant by day, an occasional service Domme on the weekend, and a thief-for-hire by night.
David’s strategy of hiring Autumn—as a submissive—backfires when he finds himself enchanted by her sense of humor and playful attitude. Determined to prove her innocence, he enlists the help of Malcolm Legato and Agent Keith Rossetti to dig deeper. This enigmatic submissive is openly hiding things from him. Her secretive nature and the bread crumbs she drops about her past don’t add up—not even when he assigns Jesse Foraker, his SAFE Security buddy—to tail her and search her apartment. None of them are prepared for what the FBI uncovers.
Falling in love wasn’t in the plan, but David makes her believe that she isn’t doomed to live a solitary life. Plunged into a world of lies and espionage—with a serial killer after her—Autumn is forced to come to terms with her past if she is to have any hope of a future with David.
