5 Easy Questions: Anne Kane author Love and Wishes @annekane #RLFblog #fantasy

    Love and Wishes
    by Anne Kane
Anne Kane author of Love and Wishes answers five easy questions
to help readers get to know her better.

    Author Bio

Anne Kane lives in the beautiful Okanagan Valley with a bouncy
Jack Russell terrier, a cantankerous Himalayan cat, a bossy little calico and too
many fish to count. She spent many years trying to fit in and act normal, but finally
gave up the effort. She started writing romance, and her fate was sealed when she
won a publishing contract with Red Sage Publishing and just a month later Changeling
Press accepted her first submission. Since then she had published more than thirty
stories in a variety of sub-genres, all with a happily ever after.
Her hobbies, when she’s not playing with the characters in her
head, include kayaking, hiking, motorcycles, swimming, skating, karate, playing
guitar, singing and of course, reading.
    What’s your favorite down-home
    family style meal?
You know I live on the west coast of Canada, and up here wild
Salmon is fairly common. You can catch a nice one by standing on the bridge in the
middle of town and dropping your line into the river. These aren’t little fish!
A side of one can feed at least six people. My favorite way to cook them is to slather
maple syrup on a side of salmon and barbeque wrapped up in tinfoil with some lemon
slices. A nice fresh garden salad, picked that day supplies the veggie component
and some baked potatoes with sour cream, bacon bits and green onions finish the
meal off. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!
    Describe the perfect vacation.
The perfect vacation is a jaunt somewhere exotic with my sister.
We live far apart and rarely get to see each other so one year we decided that each
spring we would meet somewhere in the world and have a vacation together. We’ve
been doing this for the past five years, and absolutely love it! It’s wonderful
to have a travel companion that you get along with, and we’ve been to lots on amazing
places. Come to think of it, it’s time to start planning our trip for this year.
    What are your hobbies?
I have way too many hobbies. I sing in two choirs, play guitar
and piano, hike the mountain trails with my dog, kayak in the river (yup, same one
the salmon came out of) putter in the garden, and read lots and lots of books. I
also swim, skate and practice karate.
    When you read for pleasure,
what kind of books do you choose?
I think I’ve read darn near anything at one point or another!
Romance, murder mysteries,.fantasy, science fiction, contemporary, and autobiographies
of famous people. It depends on what mood I’m in, or what caught my attention when
I was in the book store or browsing in the online bookstores.
If the hero of your latest
book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Definitely the James Bond Theme song!

but also lets her judge them. When she runs into Humancopy Progress Rep Tom
Karellys, she can’t believe her luck. Using a cover identity, Christa shares
dinner with him, and the two discuss andys. It soon becomes apparent Tom is not

    Zonaton

    About Zonaton

Genre sensuously erotic sci-fi romance novel
    Author Name Linda Mooney
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
The native inhabitants of AR617b, known as gerons
are sentient creatures that resemble a cross between dragons and griffins of old
Earth lore. When they initially tried to destroy the settlers, a deal was made to
ensure both species’ survival. It was decided that each year, every five-year-old
human child must take The Walk across a hundred meter field. If they don’t stop
or run, they will arrive safely on the other side, and be allowed to grow up and
have families of their own. But if they break the rule, the gerons will kill them
unless, by a strange quirk of fate, a geron decides to Pair with the child, taking
and raising the human as its own.
Emmala took The Walk, and found herself adopted by
one of the older gerons, an immense silvery-white creature named Zonaton. For the
next fifteen years, he cared for her, protected her, and loved her. But now Emmala’s
real family wants her back, and they will do everything they can to have her returned,
even if it means killing Zonaton, and starting an all-out war with the gerons.
What neither the settlers nor gerons realize is that
there is another alien species watching and waiting for the two combatants to go
into battle. Because when they do, that will be the aliens’ cue to destroy everyone,
and claim AR617b for their own.

    Interview with Linda Mooney

    Why did you write this
    book?
By accident, I ran across a piece of artwork on the internet
that hit me like a two-by-four. I have no idea who the artist is, but it’s a picture
of a human-like dragon/griffin protecting a naked young female. The picture is in
sepia tones, mostly silver in color, and I just couldn’t shake the image. It was
too powerful and beautiful, and I knew I had to write a story around the piece.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
Believe it or not, I love to read mostly horror. As for romance,
I’m very eclectic. Whatever gets my attention, I’ll read.
    What is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own characters)?
I love the Comte de Saint Germaine, by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro.
    Do you enjoy films and/or
TV shows? Which are your favorites?
I watch mostly horror. Right now I’m a huge Walking Dead fan.
I also watch Ghost Adventures, From Dusk ‘Til Dawn, and Sherlock.
    What are you working on
at the moment, and what are we likely to see from you in the coming months?
I’m jumping back and forth between several books. Once I retire
from teaching in June (after 35 years), I hope to “settle down” and get
a few more books completed, including AEquana’s Quest, HeartStorm, Runner’s Moon:
Yarrolam, Every Battle Lord’s Nightmare, and an independent story called UnderSilver.
    Please tell us about your
    latest book.
Zonaton is a geron, one of the sentient creatures inhabiting
an Earth-like planet. A hundred years ago, the survivors of Earth landed on his
world and began to colonize. But, as humans do, they began to ravage the planet,
forcing the gerons to try and curb the destruction. As the gerons, who resemble
dragon/griffin-like humans, are much more powerful, they nearly killed all the survivors,
until one man managed to broker a truce between the species. As part of the treaty,
every year, all 5-year-old children have to take The Walk across a barren plot of
land. Those children who run or refuse to go are taken away and killed. Those who
follow through survive to grow up.
What the humans don’t realize is that gerons are extremely sensitive
to human tendencies. Gerons can tell which child will grow up to become vicious
and possibly a severe danger to their own kind. What the gerons actually do is cull
the human population of any future danger.
Emmala is old enough to take The Walk, but her situation is drastic.
She is a severely abused child, both physically and emotionally. During the trial,
Zonaton realizes she will not live to grow up if her situation doesn’t change, so
he “adopts” her, and takes her away to live with him.
The only problem with this is that he is well into his elderly
years, and doesn’t have many left to live. All he can do is hope he remains around
long enough to give Emmala – whom he has come to cherish – enough knowledge and
support so that she can survive on her own after he is gone.
What neither of them realize is that Emmala’s abusive parents
decide they want her back with them, and they will do everything in their power
to have her returned to them.
At the same time, some rogue aliens, who have caused trouble
before in the past, have landed back on the gerons’ planet, and it won’t be long
before they’re expected to pose a major threat to both the humans and gerons.

    Author Bio

Linda loves to write sensuously erotic romance with a fantasy,
paranormal, or science fiction flair. Her technique is often described as being
as visual as a motion picture or graphic novel.
A wife, mother, and retired Kindergarten and music teacher, she
lives in a small south Texas
town near the Gulf coast where she delves into other worlds filled with daring exploits,
    adventure, and intense love.
She has numerous best sellers, including 10 consecutive #1s.
In 2009, she was named Whiskey Creek Press Torrid’s Author of the Year, and her
book My Strength, My Power, My Love was named the 2009 WCPT Book of the Year. In
2011, her book Lord of Thunder was named the EPIC eBook (formerly Eppie) Award Winner
    for Best Erotic Sci-Fi Romance.

    Uh, did you say it’s a *gay* scifi con? @Outlantacon @somamix1 @explodnSpceship #LGBT #SciFi #RLFblog

    Photograph by Philip Bonneau
    @somamix1 on Twitter
I’m just back from Outlantacon/Gaylaxicon 2014 in Atlanta GA,
and I had an absolute blast. I’m late getting this post up on RLF because when I got home, I
fell over and slept after three days of panels, talking, workshops, gaming, and
presentations. Not to mention some of the best game shows anywhere. Gay-themed
Match Game, anyone? Not to be missed! And you don’t go to Outlantacon without
seeing Miss Moxie Magnus. Ever. Links to all are below, along with pictures. There were dozens of guests, and tons of panels, and it was so hard to choose what to see during my free time. Jevocas “Java” Green, Sock Puppet Theatre, the Whedon Universe, and more. Plus my time on the Gaylaxicon board as secretary is ending, and I attended my final meeting with them. The Gaylactic Spectrum Awards was held during the con. There was so much to see and do! I need to find a clone app…
Saturday night, walking down the hall, a woman attending a
business meeting in the hotel noticed I was wearing a guest badge. She gestured
around at the costumes, and asked, “What’s going on here?” I told
her it was a gay scifi convention. “Oh,” she said, and we continued
walking. She turned back and asked, “I’m sorry. What did you say?” I
repeated myself, and again she nodded and said, “Oh.” A moment later
she asked, “I’m sorry, but did you say it was a ‘gay’ scifi convention?”
I laughed, assured her I had, and handed her one of my autographed postcards
with a tour of my Tarthian Empire shown on the front. She took it, thanked me,
and said, “Well, I hope you have a really great time. It looks fun!”
Maybe I won a convert, or a reader. Either way, I was glad to have answered her
    question.
    Moxie Magnus at Work
When Keirnan Kelly first mentioned Outlantacon to me back in
2007 when it was just forming, I jumped at the chance to attend. She and I have
been featured guests each year since. This year, the con honored both of us
with lifetime memberships. I felt like doing a “Sally Field” and
yelling, “You like me! You really like me!” What an honor to be part
of such a wonderful convention. This is my home con; the one I never miss. I
    hope you’ll come next year.
My assistant this year was Holly Stringer, a member of my
local writer’s group. She made the convention so much fun. We are going to work
together this summer, and you’ll be hearing more about her before long.
Angela and Gerald Blackwell shared panels with me at the con, and spent a long
time talking about Peril, my immortals’ role-playing game. I’ll be working with
them to develop and beta test the system. If you like RPGs and want to get a
peek at the system when it’s tested, email
    me.

    5 Easy Questions: Touchstone of Love @beth_barany #RLFblog #timetravel

    A Touchtone of Love
5 Easy Questions is an interview is designed to be quick,
easy, and fun. Today’s guest is Beth Barany.
    What is your go-to
meal to order when you dine out? Your favorite “I know it will hit the
    spot” item.
I love breakfast at any time of day, so depending on where I
am, I’ll usually get two eggs over easy with hash browns, bacon, and a side of
    steamed spinach.
    What were you like
    when you were in school?
Starting at age 12 in middle school, I was super studious
and worked hard to get A’s. But before then, I wasn’t paying much attention to
the teacher and would only do the assignments I liked: math and spelling.
Everything else wasn’t a nearly as interesting as the book I was reading at the
    time.
    Would you rather stay
inside and watch snow falling, or get out in it and build a snowman?
Well, that depends! Am I reading a great book? Then I want
to stay inside. But if I don’t have anything in my hands at the moment, I want
to get outside and preferably cross-country ski.
    What was your
    favorite book as a child?
I really loved The Lost Prince by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
    What was the last
movie you watched (home or theater)?
Turbo! What a sweet and fun film about holding fast to your
dreams and going after them with all you’ve got!

enjoyed. I highly recommend!” — Karysa Faire

any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: He has short, dark hair,
tanned skin (natural from his genetics), and is muscular.
    Who is the significant
    other in your character’s life?
Before and after Ava, there was no one. In Another Night, Another
    Planet, he reunites with her.
    Does he scrape by, live
    comfortably, live extravagantly?
Nate has money to spend. Unfortunately, he is banned from most
planets due to his ancestry. Therefore, he appears to scrape by, saving money for
when he is ready to end his business.
    What special skills does
    your character rely on?
He relies on his speed and ability to coerce others.
What does he have a knack
    for doing?
He has a knack for getting himself into trouble. Sometimes he
uses words to sweet talk others, and other times he aggravates them.
    If someone from your character’s
past showed up, who would he most want it to be, and why? OR who would he most NOT
want it to be, and why?
He would really love to meet his parents, but they died long
ago. Therefore, he’d want to find the woman he left behind so many years ago.
    What past event causes

He fears getting close to someone after being stolen away from
those he loved, and banned from ever returning to their planet.

biggest need at the beginning of the story?
He needs to find his ship to escape the Otarians he offended.

To be reunited with his long, lost love.
Who in his life has the
power to hurt this character the most? Why?
At the beginning of the story, his shipmate, Wyn, has the power
to hurt him the most. Nate fears Wyn finding love or even a better opportunity and
    leaving him all alone.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
Because she couldn’t get me out of her head. I just wouldn’t
leave her alone until she told my story. And let me tell you, I had to fight off
a bunch of other characters as well.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
Um, that would be what happens after intercourse. I don’t mean
for it to happen, but I can’t help it. It’s part of my genetics.
    Was there anything your
writer discovered about you that was a surprise to one or both of you?
I didn’t realize how much I’d missed Ava until I saw her again.
    When your writer is writing
about you, what do you think makes your writer the most happy? What makes your writer
    the most sad?
For some reason, she really enjoyed writing the scene where I’m
being chased by the Otarians. And what made her the most sad affected me the same
way, when I woke up and found Ava gone.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
It’s her way to escape to her own little world rather than pulling
her hair out. She doesn’t smoke, drink, or even have a coffee addiction, so she
    needs to de-stress somehow.
    What other character from
your book do you think your writer should write a book about? Care to tell us why?
Well, Wyn and Michelle got their happily-ever-after, even though
their story wasn’t told. But, I’m curious about Kalara and Jacobus’ relationship.
I mean, what couple gives erotic massages to others? But, then again, we were on
    Elatia, the pleasure planet.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your writer?
Thank you for giving me Ava back.
