Can his magic save her reality?

Owner of the Keltic Ranch gift shop in Olde Town, Konnor MacDhuibh is skilled in forging fantasy blades and keeping his Faerie heritage and magical abilities a secret. But when Bonnie Zhang and her two doxies need a place to stay, the empty apartment above his store is the perfect solution. Being so close to the cautious woman with haunted eyes tosses his good intentions to the wind.

Bonnie brings secrets of her own to Spencer. Leaving her broken past behind, she’s ready for a new beginning. But if her secret is exposed too soon, she could lose any hope for acceptance–and a family.

Will their truths lead to love or destroy any hope they’ve forged?

Meet Schnoozel and Ruatha from Just My Imagination

Full name: Schnoozel and Ruatha Robinton

Nickname: Schnoozel is usually Schnoozel but Ruatha is often called Rude

Gender: Schnoozel is female, Ruie is male. Both are neutered.

Species: miniature dachshunds

Physical description: Schnoozel is a wirehaired. Ruatha is a smooth dapple and has one blue and one brown eye.

Relationship to main character: Both dogs are owned and trained by Bonnie. They enjoy being therapy dogs, especially in nursing homes.

Where this furbaby came from: Both are rescue doxies.

Do you have any working or service animals in your stories? Tell us about them.

Obviously, yes. Their owner, Bonnie, is hoping to find a position at Stick Pony, the new therapy riding camp in Spencer, to provide assistance to campers who may have or want to explore the possibility of therapy and companion animals. While doxies can be difficult to train, with their doxie stubbornness, these two are therapy dogs that to provide comfort, acceptance, and love. Their specialty is working with nursing home and memory care residents.

What inspired you to create this character?

I’ve been owned by three miniature doxies and adore the breed. Two of my doxies have crossed the rainbow bridge and this book is for them.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

What’s not to love about a miniature doxie? Oh, there are some who aren’t dog lovers. A couple residents in the local nursing home declined visits, but for the most part people like to get down to their level for loves and licks. These two have wild wiggle-butts when they’re happy. However, when wearing their working vests, most people know to let them do their jobs. But watch out when the vests come off!

What does this furbaby eat?

A good quality dog food—in fact they eat better than their owner. For a treat, they’d do anything for French fries.

What does this furbaby add to the story?

Whether simply enhancing two people meeting or barking for help in an emergency, these two are excellent at bringing people together. How my characters treat and interact with the dogs shows off their true personalities and helps the reader get to know them.

Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.

In order for a doxie to be considered a dapple it only needs to have one tiny spot of another color. Any of the three coat types can be dapples.

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Schnoozel and Ruatha from Just My Imagination by *lizzie starr @lizziestarr @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsAbout Lessa

This post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.

Lessa is my siblings’ mini-doxie—although since I share a house with them, she thinks I’m hers, too. She’s trained me well in fetching cookies for her. Lessa is an old girl, very gray about the muzzle and is slowing down. We’re not sure exactly how old she is—the rescue she came from didn’t know. She has beautiful eyes with darker fur around them so she looks like she’s wearing eyeliner.

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

I have a goal of honoring my animal friends in my books. Although the book’s Ruatha and Schnoozel are different in appearance (I gave them my wished for coats—although Ruie really did have one blue eye) much of their personality shines through on the pages. Another canine family member that has shown up in most of my Keltic books is by brother’s dog, Noid. Big old goofy lab/chow mix. Noid is a hero many times over.

What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?

Hmm. My husband loved unusual pets. We had hissing cockroaches for awhile. They really are quite interesting.

Where did you find your pet?

Animals in my household come from a rescue or shelter—except for Schnoozel. He came from a breeder.

*lizzie always made up games and stories to keep her company. So, a cunning witch lived in Grampa’s weather research station and was only held at bay by waving a certain weed. An ancient road grader morphed into a boat carrying wild adventurers to islands filled with fierce lions and dangerous cannibals, which really looked a lot like sheep.

Now filled with fantasy, love, and romance with a sparkling twist, the stories of her imagination swirl their way into the mundane world.

*lizzie recently retired from her more routine life of being *the Lunch Lady* at a private school. According to the kids, she was ‘the best cooker!’ Yes, she misses the students and teachers, but is delighted now to start her days by telling stories rather than opening cases of chicken nuggets and counting milk cartons.

Her tagline of Author and lunch lady~~what a combination! no longer holds true (which makes her sad because she really liked that one).

Now you’ll know *lizzie by her tales of~~Romance with a sparkling twist~~
