    What are your main characters’
    names, ages, and occupations?
    Lady Serena Weir is age
26, and making her first come out. She is the daughter of the deceased Earl of Vere
and sister of the current earl.
    Robert, Viscount Beaumont,
is 30 years old. He is a major landowner and rake.

    Interview

Tell us about your story’s world. What is it like in this
    period or place?
    The story is a Regency.
It begins during the main Season in London, from
there we move to Paris, then Yorkshire, England.
1816 is known as the year without summer.
What inspired you to write this book?
This is the 3d book in
my series The Marriage Game, however it was the second one I wrote. Robert kept
badgering me until I had his story down. As anyone who has read the book can tell
you, he is a very difficult man.
Which character in your current book do you think readers
    will like the most? Why?
    Well I hope they like
Serena and Robert. They’ve both had difficult but different experiences they’ve
had to overcome. Robert is used to getting what he wants, but Serena won’t be bullied.
Getting to their HEA was, at times, a struggle. One of my favorite secondary characters
is the Dowager Lady Beaumont, Robert’s grandmother.
    Why do you write?
    Because I love it. It’s
the best job I’ve ever had.
Who has helped you the most in your career as an author?
    That’s a hard question.
My mother-in-law has been my biggest cheerleader, but for actual help, it is other
authors. My critique groups played a big part. I had a great mentor in Delilah Marvelle,
and my agent’s assistant, Claire Cavanaugh, who taught me how to edit and polish
    my books.
When you’re not writing, what would we find you doing?
    Social media, supporting
other authors on Facebook and Twitter. I blog three times a week. Almost every morning
I walk the beach and on the weekends I paddleboard.
Are you a plotter, or do you prefer to make it up on the spur
    of the moment?
    It’s more spur of the
moment, but I will plot a scene in my head.
    Any advice for new authors?
    Learn about the business,
and know that this is a huge business. Join a supportive critique group, and professional
organizations, such as RWA and its chapters. Develop your voice. Don’t give up.
What other jobs have you held besides writing?
    Boat cleaner, sales clerk,
musician, soldier, college professor and lawyer.
What are you currently reading for fun?
    I’m reading Jo Beverly’s
Malloren Series, but I’ve got new releases from Grace Burrowes, Shana Galen and
several others on my Kindle waiting for me.
If you could time travel what era would be your first stop?
    LOL, Regency England.
    Do you believe in luck?
    I do believe in luck.
I also believe in hard work.
What kind of music do you listen to while driving? Same question
    for Writing
    I don’t. I listen to
NPR. I have to have silence when I write.
Do you play any musical instruments?
    I play piano, but not
as well as I used to.

    Please complete the sentence

I love pizza with Gorgonzola cheese.
I’m always ready for snuggling with my husband.

dumped and her ex got engaged to his rebound. So, after a bad day and one too many
mojitos, Katie starts making a list of things a girl like her would never do, not
    in a million years …
As a tattoo artist with a monster motorcycle, Chase Trepasso
isn’t the kind of guy you bring home to mom and dad. And when he finds Katie’s list

Katie’s more than tempted by Chase’s offer, as long as they keep

    Interview

How did you get your start
    in the industry?

    a move on, girlie!”
How do you cope with stress

I watch my favorite shows, play with my kids, and put what I’m
feeling into my work. It also helps to have an awesome brainstorming bud to vent
frustrations too. I call mine Fluffy.
    What are some jobs you’ve

I worked at a grocery chain for five years, a Veterinary Assistant

    Brockway, and Candis Terry.
    What is your favorite
    holiday and why?
Oh man, favorite? No, no it’s a tie between Christmas (because
of the light hearted, happy feelings it brings out in me) and Halloween (because
who doesn’t love dressing up, watching scary movies and eating candy?)
What do you like to do
    when you’re bored?
Watch Supernatural, Glee, or New Girl, and Drool, Sing, and Snort

    information specialist for another superhero.
    Interview
How did you get your start in the industry?
I had been writing for myself or publishing on the internet
for free for years never thinking I could actually get published. Then I saw an
open call over on Less Than Three Press’ website and it looked fun and I was
between jobs so I had some spare time. I sat down and wrote what would
eventually be the short story ‘Regarding the Detective’s Companion.’ When I
submitted it I never thought it would be accepted and was shocked, but very
    happy, when it was.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
I love coming up with new characters, getting inside their
heads and figuring out who they are and how they think. I love world building,
getting the opportunity to design a culture from the ground up is incredibly
exciting and challenging. I am getting more and more found of writing plots and
coming up with increasingly complex twists. I also love writing about sex,
figuring out how the characters feel about their bodies, their sexualities,
themselves as sexual people (or not), their kinks and their desires … It’s
    just a lot of fun.
What is your work ethic when it comes to
    writing?
I consider my writing to be a job and thus try to treat it
with the same level of seriousness as I would any other job. I try to make time
everyday for writing related work. Responding to my publishers and editors as
promptly as possible is important to me, as is being thorough and trying to be
    as professional as possible.
How do you cope with stress as an author?
Truthfully being an author is the least stressful job I’ve
ever had. Being a full time graduate students is lots more stressful as is any
of the other day jobs I’ve held. Writing, editing contacting people about cover
art and such is what I do to unwind. I have learned to pace myself though, to
take some time off and spend it with my family or just make myself a nice
dinner and what something fun on tv.
Do things your family or friends do ever end
    up in a book?
I think aspect of most people I’ve met end up to some extent
in books. I am very paranoid about writing someone, living or dead, too
completely into a book though and usually try very hard not to do that. I want
my characters to stand on their own and not be tied to an actual person. Places
though — houses I’ve been in or streets I’ve walked down — will sometimes
appear in my stories whole sale.
What are some jobs you’ve done before (or
    while) you were a writer?
I’ve been a full time student for most of my life. Right now
I am in graduate school studying intellectual history. I’ve also worked as a
paralegal in legal aid, as an intern in a human rights investigation office, as
part of an youth ministry team, as a fast food employee and I am now working
for resident life at my university.
Which of your books would you recommend to
someone who doesn’t normally read your genre, and why?
I think Your Happy End would be a good one if you were
looking for something fun and sexy but didn’t know where to start. It’s a
short, light hearted story that doesn’t take itself too seriously and isn’t too
deep or angsty. I think it would be an enjoyable read to dip your toes in the
water, especially if you were a superhero fan or a fan of geeks falling for
    other geeks.
If you love fantasy or horror but weren’t too sure about the
whole gay romance thing then I’d definitely keep my eyes out for my upcoming
novel Like Fire Through Bone which is fantasy/horror adventure story with a
solid romantic subplot and some pretty hot sex scenes. There is definitely
enough fantasy and horror there though that I think genre fiction fans would
    enjoy it.
What kind of books do you read when taking a
    break from your own writing?
I read a lot of LGBTQ romance and erotica. I also love
reading fantasy, science fiction, and gothic horror. I read a lot of
non-fiction both for research for my writing and for my history degree. Every
so often I read mystery and historical fiction as well.
What do you think is the future of
    traditional publishing?
It’s hard to say. I think ebooks are the way of the future
although I doubt paper books are going anywhere anytime soon. We will continue
to see more small presses springing up and do quite well. Although I do think
there is a case for self publishing, there will definitely continue to be a
    place for traditional publishing.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
I adore Halloween. I love watching horror movies, reading
horror stories and making slightly scary food, getting dressed up. It is one of
my favorite times of the year.
What do you like to do when you’re bored?
I very rarely getting truly bored because I am almost always
doing something. When I have some spare time though tend to I cook, usually
something complicated and time consuming. I knit, I just finished knitting a
Doctor Who replica scarf. I wanted it to be as close to the one Tom Baker wore
in Ark In Space as possible. I read, I watch tv, mostly though I write.
If your life became a movie, who would you
    want to play you?
Mark Gatiss with glasses, his natural hair color and some
awesome suits. It would involve mummies, haunted houses, ornithology, mysteries
    in Manhattan’s Chinatown,
fashionable menswear, and a great deal of alcohol and geekery.
    Please underline which statement is
    more like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back and
    relaxed.”
    “I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation,
because I do things as fast as possible.”
    Please complete the
    sentences
I love pizza with mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini, tomato
slices, olives, veggie sausage, and goat cheese.
I’m always ready for unexpected wormhole through space and
time or possible rescue abandoned kittens.
When I’m alone, I talk to myself, but mostly write.
You’d never be able to tell, but I am just a little bit
    weird. And unusually short.
If I had a halo it would be made from the bones of my
    enemies.
If I could model vintage inspired menswear I’d do it in a
    heartbeat.
I can never be a professional pole dancer because I’m not
    coordinated enough.

    Interview

Who has helped you the most in your career as an author?
My critique partners and other writing colleagues as well as
    writing courses I’ve taken.
When you write, what things do you want close at hand? (Coffee,
water, chocolate… pictures of gorgeous hunks for inspiration…?)
Chocolate is always good. I may be the only person on the planet
who does not drink coffee. I do love hot chocolate.
When you’re not writing, what would we find you doing?
Reading for sure. I love to sit in the sun and read.
Are you a plotter, or do you prefer to make it up on the spur
    of the moment?
I’m a definite pantser. I just write and then go back and edit.
Looking back at your first book, what do you wish you had
    done differently?
I wish I hadn’t tried to include so many time periods in one
    book.
    What’s your writing schedule like?
When I’m in the edit stage, I’m intense and respect the deadline.
When I’m writing a new book I write when I can, fitting it in between my “day
    job.”
    Any advice for new authors?
Finish the book. You can always fix copy on a page. You cannot
    fix a blank page.
What aspect of your life do you write into your books?
I write a lot about older women nearer to my age. I include my
personal preferences—foods I love, colors I love, places I’ve been.
When an idea hits you, what do you do to capture it?
I take notes on any available slip of paper in my purse or on
in the Notes section on my iPhone. I try to carry around a small notebook for this
purpose, but it’s not always available.
If you knew it would be a bestseller, what book would you
write that you might not write otherwise?
So far, I’ve written every book I’ve wanted to.
What’s keeping you from writing that book?
    Actually, I’ve been very
prolific this year. By the end of the year I will have five books published, one
self-published and four under contract with a traditional publisher. Not all may
    be released in 2013.
What other jobs have you held besides writing? Or jobs you’ve
done while you were a writer.
    I head my own public
relations firm. I’ve been editor of a regional corporate newsletter, marketing manager,
and special events manager for AT&T; I was an Information Specialist for the
Florida Department of Corrections (the prison system) where I learned to work with
printers (the inmates in the institution that housed the printing press) and I heard
a lot of “fish” stories (I’m innocent). On my first day on the job four
women escaped the women’s correctional institution and we had a tent city situation
when the system got overcrowded. I spent one summer at the Downingtown Inn
    in Pennsylvania
as a reservationist, living on the property in a situation similar to Dirty Dancing.
    My most exciting projects
were involvement in the Olympics in Atlanta, Sydney, Salt Lake
City and the LA Olympics. Annual reports for one client
that involved travel throughout Europe, were also
    very interesting.
Which of your books was the hardest to write and why?
    Sixth Sense

Under the Moon Gate took 10 years to perfect. I wasn’t writing
all that time. Most of that time it was dormant. But the book has been through many
iterations. It started out encompassing three generations and I finally opted for
two generations in one book and one, in the 17th century, in the prequel, Destiny:
    A Bermuda Love Story.

What are you currently reading for fun? Anything for research?
I just finished Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger, which
I really enjoyed. I got to meet the author twice at book signings. I’m in two book
clubs, so between books I read for pleasure and books for the book clubs, I’m never
without a book. I recently went on a Behind the Scenes tour on a Mediterranean cruise
to do research for an upcoming book, a murder mystery that takes place on a ship.
What’s the best gift you ever received?
The best recent gift was from my children. Two tickets to an
    Andrea Bocelli concert in Atlanta
    in December. I love him.
If you could time travel what era would be your first stop?
    World War II.
    Do you believe in luck?
Absolutely. I’ve been very fortunate in my life.
What kind of music do you listen to while driving? Same question
    when writing?
Andrea Bocelli and Broadway music. I love music from the ’40s.
Do you play any musical instruments?
    No. I took piano lessons
but they didn’t take. All I remember is Heart and Soul.
    What is your secret talent?
    I don’t have a sense
of smell so I have a well-developed sixth sense.
    What’s your favorite movie?
    Casablanca
Are you the eldest, middle, baby, or only child?
    Eldest.
    Do you think it’s important
to write in just one genre?
No. I write humorous women’s fiction, historical romance, romantic
    suspense and paranormal.
How did you get your start in the industry?
    I joined Georgia Romance Writers.
What is the most important thing you do for your career now,
as compared to when you first started writing?
Social media. Create my Web site.
What websites do you visit daily?
I comment on my group blog, Petit Fours and Hot Tamales.
If you could change something about your first book, what
    would it be?
I’d offer it in print format, not just as an EBook.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
The freedom and flexibility, the creativity.
If you could give the younger version of yourself advice what
    would it be?
    Keep writing. Don’t give up.
What is your work ethic when it comes to writing?
I have a strong work ethic, but I’m primarily motivated by deadlines.
If something is due I’ll get right on it. If not, I tend to procrastinate.
Do things your family or friends do ever end up in a book?
OMG. All the time. My sister always prefaces everything she says
with, “Now, this better not end up in your book.” My other sister and
sometimes writing partner gave me a sweatshirt that said, “Be Careful or You’ll
End Up In My Novel.” I write down snippets of conversations wherever I hear
them, at the hair salon, in the grocery store, at dinner. Sorry, if you say something
interesting, you’re likely to end up in my books.
Which of your books would you recommend to someone who doesn’t
normally read your genre, and why?
My favorite book so far is Under the Moon Gate, my newest release.
It’s a historical, romantic thriller and it has intrigue, spies, romance, and humor.
I think people actually prefer the WW II-era romance to the contemporary.
What kind of books do you read when taking a break from your
    own writing?
I love anything Nora Roberts writes. I love women’s fiction.
    I love spy novels.
What do you think is the future of traditional publishing?
I think it’s great but I also like self-publishing. My sister
and I cowrote two books, Murder at the Outlet Mall, a comedic mystery, and The Edger,
a humorous women’s fiction and we enjoyed that experience. We also wrote a musical
and are thinking of self-publishing it while waiting to get it produced.
What was the proudest moment of your life so far?
When I won the Maggie Award at the Georgia Romance Writers Conference
    in 2012.
Imagine you get to go on a dream vacation, but you have only
one hour to pack and leave, and it starts as soon as you finish this interview.
What will you take with you and where will you go?
My summer dresses, bathing suit and cover up, hat, sandals, something
dressy. I would take my husband or daughters and probably go to Italy.
We just got back from a Mediterranean Cruise and I’m ready to go back to The Amalfi
    Coast.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
Labor Day because we go to our condo in Florida.
What good book have you read recently?
Dorothea Benton Franks’ The Last Original Wife.
What do you like to do when you’re bored?
Watch TV, actually fall asleep in front of the TV.
If you were a color, what color would you be?
    Definitely green. That’s
my favorite color and I haven’t wavered in that since I was born. I have gravitated
toward lighter greens, like sea greens and blue greens.
Please underline which statement is more like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back and relaxed.”
    “I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation, because
I do things as fast as possible.” But I wish I were laid back and relaxed and
    could enjoy a vacation spa.

What are your main characters’ names, ages, and occupations?
    Wren Moseley is a twenty-one
year old widow who is struggling to maintain her family’s estate and beloved village.
Niall, the Duke of Aronia, is the thirty-year-old son of the Aronian king, who is
    on his deathbed.

    Interview

Tell us about your story’s world. What is it like in this
    period or place?
In my Princes series, much of the stories take place in Noventia,
a fictional kingdom. For this book, I headed to Aronia, a neighboring kingdom that
    is like the “Paris”
of the semi-historical world I’ve created.
What inspired you to write this book?
    This is the fourth book
in the series, so of course the preceding books were inspiration. But I mostly drew
on the Robin Hood tale as I created Wren and Niall’s story. It was fun to create
a role reversal, which is typical in my books. Men aren’t the only ones who get
    to have all the fun!
Which character in your current book do you think readers
    will like the most? Why?
    Definitely Wren. Although
her brother, Wilhem, is quickly becoming a favorite. Wren is a strong heroine, one
who is determined to protect what she loves. It’s easy to fall a little in love
    with her.
    Why do you write?
    I write because I enjoy
it. No matter whether it gets published or not, I love weaving a story and making
it turn out exactly how I want it to. Even though sometimes my endings even surprise
    me!
When you’re not writing, what would we find you doing?
    Sleeping, I hope! If
I’m not at the day job, I’m pretty much stationed at the computer. There is so little
time as it is, that I have to squeeze in writing as much as I can.
When an idea hits you, what do you do to capture it?
    Typically titles come
to me first, so I usually jot them down in my “Story Idea” folder if I’m
at my computer. If I’m away from home, I make a note in my cell phone for future
reference. Inspiration comes to me when I’m driving usually, which is always a coin
toss on whether I’ll actually remember it by the time I get where I’m going.
What’s the best gift you ever received?
    Do you believe in luck?
    Since I’m fond of blackjack,
I would have to say yes. Also happy to say I’m a fairly lucky person…or maybe I
just always look at the silver lining.
Do you play any musical instruments?
I can play the piano a tiny bit. I also play the clarinet. Band
    geek here!
    What is your secret talent?
    I can blow a chewing
    gum bubble with my nose.
    What’s your favorite movie?
    Sommersby, a Civil War-era
movie featuring one of my faves, Richard Gere.
Are you the eldest, middle, baby, or only child?
    I’m two of these actually.
I’m the middle child, but I’m the only girl. So that means I’m special. ; )

    Please complete the sentence

    I love pizza with mushrooms.
    I’m always ready for bed.
When I’m alone, I must be daydreaming cause I’m never alone.
You’d never be able to tell, but I’m very shy.
If I had a halo it would be the
    one Beyonce sings about
    .
If I could win the lottery I’d retire.
I can never eat seafood because it stinks.

“I was fourteen when it happened. The day the Mackey’s moved
into the house next door. The day that changed my life, as much as it was, forever.
A tiny, blonde girl standing on my doorstep would be the beginning of the craziness
which became my life. This girl became my best friend, my confidant and side kick.
She also introduced me to the love of my life.”
Chloe, a computer and gaming nerd, hides behind the scenes in

find herself and introduces her to Leo, Mina’s gorgeous older brother. Chloe instantly
developed a crush, but knows he only sees her as Mina’s best friend. Or does he?
Leo, graduating high school and trying to figure out what to

long distance and separate paths of life, can true love prevail once you’re all

    Owner of Music Label
Leo Mackey –College boy to Music Producer
Both characters are late twenties by middle to end. They start
    the story in high school.

    Interview

What do you enjoy most about writing?
Delving into a new life, world, and character is exhilarating.
It’s very similar to when I read and get to be a part of something or step into
someone else’s shoes. I can be a dragon slayer, exotic dancer, FBI agent, serial
killer, etc. Who doesn’t like to venture outside the boundaries of the real world
    once in a while?
Writing allows this same feeling, but with a little more kick.
I get to be master of my creations. Not only do I get to step into a character’s
shoes, but I get to decide the character’s fate and feelings.
    No I don’t have a God complex.
Not at all. Why do you ask?
    J
If you could choose anyone to be your mentor who would it
    be?
Kristen Ashley and Evangeline Anderson. I know you asked for
one, but these two are right up there at the top for me. I love both their writing
styles, the alpha males they bring to life, and their ability to create such amazing
    stories, heroines, and overall series.
These two women are amazingly talented, social, interactive,
and can write a scene so steamy hot you may just be hospitalized for dehydration.
If you could give the younger version of yourself advice what
    would it be?
    *Takes the hand of the
RLF Ghost of writer’s past’s hand (RLFGWP)*
“Write down all those ideas you keep thinking about, Stupid!
Oh, Geesh-ush, look at me. NO, don’t just forget about them!”
    I turn to RLFGWP.
“It’s too painful to watch myself, please take me back.
I promise to keep paper and pen on hand at all times so I never do this again. I’ve
    learned my lesson.”
    *Returns to present. RLFGWP
lets me off with a warning.”
All the amazing ideas that coursed through my head when I was
younger, but of course now I can’t quite resurrect from the depths of my memory,
would be helpful now. I wrote when I was younger, but a lot of things I threw away
thinking I’d never need that again. If only I’d known that writing – a LOT of writing – was in my future, I’d have held on to them.
Then there was a time when I didn’t really read. I’m talking
years where I put it aside, along with any ideas that tried to emerge. All the poor
characters I suppressed are now battling inside my head on a daily basis to be released.
Resulting in my current self-diagnosed Multiple Character Disorder (MCD).
    (note from Kayelle:
next year, the Ghost of the RLF Writer’s Past might become a regular feature on
    this blog. Just sayin’.)
Do things your family or friends do ever end up in a book?
Absolutely! While I may change things up a bit and alter a couple
things, family and friends are a huge source of inspiration and material. :)
For example: Christopher from Falling Stars was strongly influenced
by a couple of my cousins. Viola from Modern Arrangements Trilogy was inspired by
my aunts and a family friend. Most of my teenage and young woman inspiration comes
from my sister, her friends, my daughter, and from my own experiences and friends
    all those many years ago.
What are some jobs you’ve done before (or while) you were
    a writer?
I actually still am working full time outside of my home. At
this time, I’ve worked with this company for over six years and have gone through
a couple of organization structure changes. However, I like to just call myself
    a glorified spreadsheet maker.
Which of your books would you recommend to someone who doesn’t
normally read your genre, and why?
Most of my adult works are contemporary. If it’s someone who
doesn’t typically read contemporary romance, then I would probably suggest Live-In
Position, which is a bit tamer than my current releases. Or perhaps Falling Stars,
since there is a bit of mystery surrounding our leading man.
What kind of books do you read when taking a break from your
    own writing?
I’m so eclectic I can’t begin to narrow down my ‘kind’ of book.
I just came off of a tattooed/bad boy/rocker kick and am leaning more toward Sci-Fi
style romance/erotica and shifters. I was on a werewolf kick a couple months ago.
What do you think is the future of traditional publishing?
Honestly, I don’t know, but I’m curious to see where publishing
goes next. I mean, I don’t believe that the traditional publishing companies are
going anywhere anytime soon. But I do think they have gotten a wake-up call about
staying with the times and realizing that they can’t monopolize the market as they
    have in the past.
What good book have you read recently?
As I’m answering these, I’m reading Hard Mated by Jennifer Ashley
    and it is owning me.
What do you like to do when you’re bored?
Baking, reading, and watching horror movies.
If your life became a movie, who would you want to play you?
    Rebel Wilson.
    :)
How do you take your coffee?
Hazelnut Creamer and 3 packs of Splenda
Please underline which statement is more like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back and relaxed.”
    “I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation, because
I do things as fast as possible.”

    Please complete the sentences

I love pizza with diced pepperoni, mushrooms, extra cheese.
I’m always ready for a nap or a horror movie.
When I’m alone, I write or watch bad C rated Sci-Fy or horror
    on Chiller or Netflix.
You’d never be able to tell, but I’m actually a HUGE Excel
nerd and X-Men fanatic (I’m talking comic books and back stories. Yeah, I pretty
much know most of the backstory to the main characters.)
If I had a halo it would be held
    up by my horns
    .
If I could have superpowers I’d be Professor X from
    XMen or The Phoenix
    .
I can never be completely serious all the time because
life’s too short and I’m just not that kind of person.
