When an investigation into government corruption ends in a killing on Jonah’s watch, the FBI arrives. With them is Kellan Reynolds. Together once more, sparks fly and Jonah begins to believe in second chances.

What are your main characters’ names, ages, and occupations?
Jonah Carver is in his mid-30’s. He’s a Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps.
Kellan Reynolds is a former Captain in the Marines. He’s in his early-30’s and currently runs a political consulting firm in Washington D.C.

Interview with Gunnery Sergeant Jonah Carver

Tell us about yourself. What are you like?
This is ridiculous. Did Kellan really say I had to do this? He did? That’s because he had to do it last time. He’s better at this. He wrote that damn book and he gives interviews all the time. (sighs)
I’m a United States Marine. I act like a Marine. Next question.
What do you think is your strongest point?
    I’m a good fucking Marine.
Do you have a weakness? (If so, what do you think it is? What does your lover think it is? What does your enemy think it is?)
My weakness is that I keep getting surrounded by incompetent morons who can’t strategize, navigate, command, or shoot as well as I can. What? It’s true. I haven’t served under a decent officer since Kellan left the Corps. I have no weaknesses. I am made weaker by the incompetence that surrounds me.
    (long pause)
Kellan thinks my weakness is that I hold other people to an impossibly high standard. He says it’s not fair to expect other people to meet the same standards that I do. My enemies know I have no weaknesses because I killed them all in combat.
Seriously, though…Kellan is my weakness. (clears throat)
What drives you to do the things you do? What makes you want to be the “good guy?”
Are all the questions this ridiculous? I do the things I do because they’re right. I don’t want to be the ‘good guy’. I’m not a good guy, not at all. I just do what I have to do and I do what’s right. Now Kellan…he’s the good guy. He needs to feel like he’s making a difference.
Kellan and my father…the two best men I’ve ever known.
    What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
Racing my bike along a stretch of open road, clocking almost 200 mph. And the only reason it’s a guilty pleasure is because Kellan worries.
If you didn’t know how old you were how old would you be?
That is such a stupid question. What does that even mean? Ask another question. Did Kellan answer that question? He probably gave some sort of philosophical answer like, ‘I would be as old as I am because I am that old’.
A biography has been written about you. What do you think the title would be in six words or less?
“Warrior”. Kellan keeps joking about writing my biography. He’d probably come up with a good title, you should ask him that question.
If money were not an object, where would you most like to live?
On a beach someplace with good surfing. Maybe Hawaii or Australia. (long pause) But Kellan would get a little stir crazy. He’d want to be back in D.C. doing something important. So I guess I want to live wherever Kellan is.
What song would best describe your life?
    The Marine Corps Hymn
If you were a tool, what would people use you to do?
(long pause) Are you fucking serious? (heavy sigh) A Swiss Army Knife. I would be the perfect tool for whatever needed to be done at the time. What did Kellan say? He probably said something like ‘I would be a pen and people would use me to write words of wisdom’. (snort) He’s so smart it’s easy to forget he was a badass killer Marine, too.
Picture yourself as a store. Considering your personality and lifestyle, what type of products would be sold there?
    M16s. Motorcycles. Beer. Condoms.
As a child, what was your favorite thing about school?
Precision drills. What? My parents sent me to military school.
Tell us an embarrassing story that has to do with a pet. If you have no pets, a story about a significant other will do. ^_^
We don’t have a pet. We talked about getting a dog, if we ever ended up living in the same city, let alone the same house. Maybe we could talk about that again, since we’re both at the Pentagon, now. I’m not telling any embarrassing stories about Kellan. He trusts me to have his back.
If you came with a warning label, what would it say?
I think it should say ‘Danger’, but Kellan would probably say it should read ‘Doesn’t play well with others.’
    Waves Break My Fall

Please Fill in the Blanks (as Jonah)

    I love pizza with beer.
I’m always ready for sex with Kellan.
When I’m alone, I enjoy it.
You’d never be able to tell, but Kellan can sing. Really well, actually.
If I had a halo it would be someone else’s I was holding for them.
If I could fly I’d take Kellan anyplace he wanted to go.
I can never win an argument with Kellan because he’s too fucking smart.

    About the Author

Kendall McKenna is a writer of M/M erotic romance. Kendall’s first work of fiction was written at the worldly age of nine, and was a transformative work that expanded on the story told in a popular song of the time. She tried her hand at vampire and cowboy fiction, winning high school poetry and short story contests along the way. It wasn’t until she discovered the world of m/m erotic fiction and found her stride with cops, Marines and muscle cars, that she felt inspired to share her stories with readers who enjoy the same things. Kendall was born and raised in Southern California, where she still lives and works. A non-conventional relationship has kept her happy for the last decade. Her four dogs enjoy it when she writes, as she sits still long enough for them to curl up around her.

    Interview

Tell us about your story’s world. What is it like in this period or place?
This book takes place in what I suppose would be considered an historical fantasy world. It’s similar
to Earth’s medieval period, particularly Scotland (you’ve got to love a man in
a kilt!) but has magic and wizards too.
What inspired you to write this book?
For over four years I was suffering from unexplained dizziness and had been to every Ear, Nose and Throat
department there was, but still they couldn’t figure out what was causing my vertigo.
Last year I finally got to see the right balance specialist (my husband and I discovered
his details on the Internet and took them to the doctor.) I was diagnosed with Migraine
Associated Vertigo. So now, I knew what it was, but it was still a long way from
being cured. As well as dizziness and headaches, it plays havoc with my concentration
and I knew I wouldn’t have the concentration to complete a novel, so I set my sights
    on shorter stories.
This was one of my first short stories which had elements of BDSM in it and in my head I played around with
what might have been expected. In my story it’s the prince who is used to ordering
people about who wants to submit to someone else.
    Why do you write?
Because I’d go mad if I didn’t! I have all these characters and scenarios around my head and they don’t
leave me be until I’ve written them down either on paper or on a computer screen.
Who has helped you the most in your career as an author?
That would be my husband, John. For such a long time I had lots of projects started but not finished. He used
to read my sample chapters, but then he refused to read any more until I’d finished
one of the books. It gave me the impetus I needed to finally get a book done!
When you write, what things do you want close at hand? (Coffee,
water, chocolate… pictures of gorgeous hunks for inspiration…?)
I have a class of water, notebooks, pens and a Harry Potter calendar. I’ve not had pictures of gorgeous hunks
for inspiration so far, but now you’ve given me ideas ;)
When you’re not writing, what would we find you doing?
Most likely reading or playing Dragon Quest 8 on the Playstation. We have so many books there
isn’t room for them on the bookshelves any more. I buy ebooks, but the paper ones
still seem to breed like rabbits.
Are you a plotter, or do you prefer to make it up on the spur
    of the moment?
I have a bit of an outline in my head and then start writing and see what happens. I love to be surprised and
it’s amazing what turns up on the page or computer screen. Sometimes I feel like
I’m just channeling the characters’ stories.
    What’s your writing schedule like?
Non-existent! I have to write when I can, if I have a vertigo attack I can’t do anything but sit still
for the few hours until it passes and I can’t be anywhere near a computer screen.
Most vertigo is caused by inner ear problems and for most people who suffer that,
including my Mum, they feel better when lying down. Migraine vertigo is the complete
opposite, it’s much worse when lying down.
    Any advice for new authors?
Read, read and then read some more. If you don’t like reading, I don’t think you’d like writing either. Develop
a thick skin for the rejections and the bad reviews. Not everyone is going to like
what you write, so you should write for yourself first and foremost. Be true to
    your own vision.
When an idea hits you, what do you do to capture it?
Write it down in a notebook or the back of an envelope, whichever spare bit of paper is to hand.
What other jobs have you held besides writing?
I’ve been an assistant manager of a shoe shop and worked in a bookshop.
What’s the best gift you ever received?
That would be when my husband John took me one Valentine’s Day to an art house cinema that was showing
all of the Lord of the Rings movies back to back. Yes, there were breaks in between
so we could eat and use the bathroom!
If you could time travel what era would be your first stop?
I’d love to go to the Middle Ages and meet Robin Hood and Maid Marion. But since they’re probably fictional,
early 20th century to meet Emily Pankhurst. That must have taken a lot of
guts to fight for women’s votes.
Do you play any musical instruments?
I used to play the recorder at school but my husband has just recently bought a guitar so we both might try
    and learn that too.
    What’s your favorite movie?
Lord of the Rings. I’m not sure I should admit how many times I’ve seen it. Yes, it’s one movie in my mind.
One very long movie ;) My obsession with the films led us to New Zealand and the basis for our book, New Zealand
with a Hobbit Botherer. As John was trying his best to see New Zealand, I was
dragging him around lots of the different filming locations.
Are you the eldest, middle, baby, or only child?
Eldest child, with two brothers and one sister.

    Please complete the sentence

I love pizza with no cheese, but lots of pepperoni.
    I’m always ready for anything.
When I’m alone, I sometimes dance.
You’d never be able to tell, but I once met Daniel Radcliffe
on a trip to New York. He signed
my program after Equus and he was very polite, speaking to nearly everyone in the
    line.
If I had a halo it would be slipping.
I can never get comfortable in bed because of my vertigo.
Four pillows and an adjustable bed and I still can’t sleep properly

    Interview

If you could change something about your first book, what
    would it be?
I would make it a bit longer and more fleshed out.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
Creating new characters and worlds. I love opening a new word
document and letting my muse take over.
How do you cope with stress as an author?
With lots of coffee and my sounding board, my partner of seven
    years.
Which of your books would you recommend to someone who doesn’t
normally read your genre, and why?
If you enjoy paranormal with romance, then please try my Devon Falls
series. Each book is a new set of main characters but past characters pop up and
help move the story along. I have dream walkers, shifters and soon the fae as well
as elemental mages will be popping in.
What kind of books do you read when taking a break from your
    own writing?
All depends on my mood. Lately I am into fantasy such as Jim
Butcher, Gail Z. Martin and a few others plus my m/m faves such as Sue Brown, Andrew
    grey and more.
What do you think is the future of traditional publishing?
I think traditional publishing is now just seeing how well e-books
are really doing and though late to the party, they are trying to play catch up
even after many years of scoffing at e-books and their popularity. I would love
to see the big six redo their publishing model and make it more relevant to today’s
changing world as well as fighting against e-book pirates.
Imagine you get to go on a dream vacation, but you have only
one hour to pack and leave, and it starts as soon as you finish this interview.
What will you take with you and where will you go?
    Some place warm…maybe Hawaii
since I have never been there. Shorts, bathing suit and maybe my trusty yoga pants
as well as a few pairs of jeans. If money is no object then I am planning to buy
    clothes there. J
What good book have you read recently?
I am loving Gail Z. Martin’s Chronicles of the Necromancer/Fallen
Kings series…wonderful fantasy and in e-books, I loved Andrew Grey’s debut young
adult story, By The Creek under pen name Geoff Laughton. Exquisitely written and
    very heartfelt.
If you were a color, what color would you be?
I am an all shades of blue or purple kind of girl
Please underline which statement is more like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back and relaxed.”
    “I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation, because
I do things as fast as possible.”

    Please complete the sentences

I love pizza with black olives, pepperoni, and mushrooms.
I’m always ready for unexpected company with plenty of coffee
    and cookies around my house.
When I’m alone, I like curling up in my honey’s big easy chair
    and reading on my nook
    .
You’d never be able to tell, but I had over a dozen surgeries
in my teens for cervical spine cancer
    .
If I had a halo it would be hung up on my devil horns.
If I could be anyone I’d be Johnny Depp’s assistant.
I can never have too many books because it’s unnatural
    not to have books IMO
    .
