The paranormal helps love along in Dee S. Knight's The Man of Her Dreams

Are psychics real? Dan says NO... Until Cassandra predicts his death. Now he's checking over his shoulder.

Dee, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I'm Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We're excited to find out more about your hero, but first, tell us about the book.

The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight

    Genre Contemporary erotic romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I was a long-distance trucker for eight years; before that I was a librarian for a large county system; I've lived in 13 different cities since being married (and that doesn't count the number of times we've moved within cities); I was a clerk at Blue Cross of Virginia; I gift wrapped for a whole Christmas season and waitressed at a rest stop on the Florida tollway for a whole summer (the longest of my life); been a phone receptionist, teacher, and headed a technical writing department. I had polio, which is not something you hear much about these days. As one little girl said when I told her, "You must be OLD!" Yup, she was a sweetie.

    What is your personality type?

I like to think I'm an introvert but I can be outgoing and talkative in small groups. Large groups will see me hiding in a corner behind a potted plant. One of my bosses said I can talk to most anyone about most anything. However, one of the things I gained from the pandemic is the ability to stay a hermit without having to feel guilty about it, so I come back to thinking I'm introverted.

What was your favorite childhood game?

Jacks. And I also loved hopscotch. The sidewalks in front of our houses always had a hopscotch grid chalked on it. Jacks was just a good game to play by myself, which as an only child was a good thing.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Strangely, I love to talk politics. I don't like to argue politics, however.

    What is your favorite book?

There are so many! But I always come back to Dr. Zhivago. See? Politics! But also history, romance, passion. Great book!

    What is your favorite meal?

Thick pork chops with applesauce and sweet potato. Oh yeah, and maybe green beans. Yum! I'm an Iowa girl—love my piggie!

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

Actually, I didn't want to be a writer. When I left my library position to become a long-distance trucker, my boss said to be sure an journal because now I knew what kinds of books readers wanted. But that advice went in one ear and out the other. I only sat down at the keyboard when I was waiting for my husband to finish a consulting job and had a couple of months on my hand. But once I saw my idea take shape on the page, I was hooked. I guess I wanted to write and never realized it until I did it.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

Extra suitcase for the books I hope to bring back. Lots of legal pads and pens. Patience and energy and excitement to learn new things.

What's your best advice for a new writer?

Write, write, write. Listen to sincere advice on how to write but follow your heart when it comes to what you write. Learn your craft. Read your work out loud as part of self-editing.

What are your writing goals for this year?

Jan Selbourne and I plan a few more joint ventures throughout the year (I loved working with her on Finding a Christmas Miracle) and I want to finish (finally!) book 3 of the Good Man series.

Cassandra Hudson has traveled across country to a small town in South Carolina to find a tall man with deep, blue eyes that she's only met in her dreams. She "sees" that he's in danger and wants to stop him from a possible death. But more than that, she's desperate to solve a mystery that involves her husband who has been dead for over two years. Too bad for her, her dream man wants to solve the mysteries of her body more than help her find a solution to her problem.

When Dan Morgan stops to help a beautiful woman on the side of the road outside his hometown, he doesn't realize that she will drag him into the world of the paranormal in an effort to find out what happened to her husband and the half million dollars he was accused of stealing. What he does realize is the strong attraction he feels for her, despite his distrust of anything mystical, and the undeniable power she holds over him using her sexy body as a lure.

Love—if they can capture it—will make it both easier and harder for them to find the answers they need.

Know the Hero from The Man of Her Dreams

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.

It's late, he's bored. What does he do?

Stock up his cooler and go out onto the lake to fish. There's nothing that man loves more than fishing. Well, let me amend that. There's at least one more thing he loves more than fishing…

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

If a juicy hamburger were not available, he'd probably pick up a moon pie.

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

He's a casual kind of guy all the way. Jeans, tee shirts or button downs with the sleeves rolled up. Tennis shoes or boots. Baseball cap. When he goes to church or to his Mama's for Sunday dinner (which is really the only time he goes to church), he dresses in slacks, button down shirt and jacket, and his shoes are polished.

Does he know how to fix things?

Oh yes! Give him the right tools and he can get most anything going. Since leaving the San Francisco police department and returning home to South Carolina, he's taken up furniture making, so he's good with his hands. Cassandra can vouch for that, too. 😉

He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

When still on the police force, he reluctantly believed a psychic while they searched for a missing boy. The child was found dead. Dan left the force shortly thereafter and that incident fueled his distrust of the metaphysical.

How does he act around children he doesn't know?

He's rarely around children at all, much less ones he doesn't know. He would treat them politely but move away from them as soon as was possible.

What is he like first thing in the morning?

He gets up and gets going. He's usually been out fishing before breakfast and often fries up his catch for his morning meal.

    Can he use chopsticks?

He can, but doesn't see the point.

Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?

    Coffee, black, please.

What apps would he have on his phone?

Yahoo, the weather, any apps for woodworking forums

    Android or iPhone?

    iPhone

    Beard or clean-shaven?

Clean shaven—when he's going to his mother's. He might go a day (or three) without shaving if he's hanging around the house or shop or just going into town.

    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?

    No, nothing.

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

He loves his pickup and uses that all the time. He has a fifth-wheel trailer that he uses when getting away for a time.

    Recycle or toss?

    Recycle.

Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!

Know Cassandra Hudson from The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #PNR #mysteryDee S Knight, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about the book.

The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight

    Genre Erotic romance

Cassandra Hudson has traveled across country to a small town in South Carolina to find a tall man with deep, blue eyes that she’s only met in her dreams. She’s desperate to solve a mystery that involves her husband who has been dead for over two years. Trouble is, her dream man wants to solve the mysteries of her body more than help her find a solution to her problem.

Love will make it both easier and harder for them to find the answers they need.

Know the Heroine from The Man of Her Dreams

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?
Cassandra’s profession is creative and artistic—she is a renowned painter and fabric artist. She’s rarely bored because her mind is always teeming with ideas of what to do next. But she loves reading so when boredom does strike, she can pick up a good book. During the day, she would take a walk—she lives in beautiful San Francisco so walking refreshes the mind as well as inspired new ideas.
What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?
Pie. She loves a well-made pie and she indulges in peach pie on her first night in South Carolina.
Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.
Loose, comfortable. When she’s working she needs to be able to move freely, so nothing tight or restrictive.
Does she know how to fix things?
Not really. She can change a lightbulb. As a widow she doesn’t have a man around to “fix” things. But her best friend lives next door and her husband is willing and happy to help with things Cassandra can’t handle.
She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
She tried to persuade Dan Morgan to help her solve the mystery of her dreams. She’s been dreaming about Dan—a man she doesn’t know—for months. She knows he’s at the heart of why and how her husband died. But… Dan is a former policeman and a realist. He has no use for psychics or mumbo jumbo. She approached him in the worst way and ensured that he wouldn’t help.
How does she act around children she doesn’t know?
Cassandra loves children but she isn’t around them very much. She stands back and takes time to know them. She’s not one of those women who steps forward to hold the new baby first.
What is she like first thing in the morning?
Cassandra has a very even temperament. She wakes up easily and doesn’t get off kilter often.
How does she act around people who don’t know what she is?
Fame and the accompanying fortune is nice but it’s not what motivates her. Therefore, she is very down to earth and easy to be with and talk to. With Dan she might be a little too nice and accommodating, but that is something she has to figure out for herself.
Will she let a worker handle things or do it herself?
Sure. She’s not a control freak. But she does have pretty exacting standards, so that doesn’t mean that she won’t examine the task, whatever it is, when it’s finished.
    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
Pierced earrings. She uses accessories when she dresses to go out but not on a daily basis.
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
In San Francisco, public transport whenever possible. But she drove her car across country in her search for the man of her dreams!
    Recycle or toss?
Recycle, definitely! It’s for the good of the planet, and why waste things that can be reused?
Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

Meet Dan Morgan from The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #PNR #psychic

Meet Dan Morgan from The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #PNR #psychicWelcome Dan from The Man of Her Dreams, an erotic paranormal romance.

    Meet Dan Morgan

    Age: mid-30s
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: Greenwood, South Carolina
Profession: Maker of fine, handcrafted furniture
    Ethnicity: American, Southern male
Please provide a physical description of Dan.
Am I allowed to say Dan’s handsome as all hell and leave it at that? No? *sigh* Okay. Dan has blue eyes and brown hair that could stand a trim. He’s about 6 feet 2 inches and pretty muscular. He used to be on the San Francisco police force and he’s kept that lean, mean attitude that still shows in stern expressions and confident swagger.
Please tell us a little about your character.
Dan was on the SFPD for years, working homicide until he moved home when he’d had enough death and political bull. He loves his mama and her twin sisters, his house on the lake, fried chicken and hush puppies. And he loves his peace and quiet, which is why he resented Cassandra Hudson poking her nose into his town and his life. He’s a badass and rude when he has a mind to be, but there’s no one better to have on your side when badassery is needed.
Who is the significant other in your character’s life?
Cassandra Hudson, a beautiful, self-proclaimed psychic from California. She shows up, meets Dan by accident and says that she’s there to find him and warn him of a danger to his life. He’s not impressed.
    How does your hero dress?
Casual clothing, jeans and tee shirts while he’s working or fishing, slacks and button-down shirt when he’s out.
What are the qualities of his voice? (pitch, quality, volume)
Rich baritone that drops to a low growl when he’s aroused. He has a decided drawl with soft vowels and a slow cadence that mesmerizes Cassandra.
How educated is this character? Is he book smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
He attended the University of South Carolina, but got his real education on the police force in San Francisco. That’s where he learned to read people and how to handle himself.
Does he scrape by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
Dan makes custom furniture and earns a very good living from it. But what he really cares about is fishing, being with family, and his friends. He loves his town and being able to live life as he wants.
What special skills does your character rely on?
He hasn’t forgotten the skills he learned on the force. So he keeps a sharp eye on his environment, continues training with his revolver and hones his rifle skills with hunting during the season. He also knows where to find the best fishing on the lake and how to fry up his catch. Fine furniture making takes patience and steadiness, as well as a good eye, and Dan has all of those, which explains how he can make such a good living at it.
What is your character’s family like?
Dan’s father is dead, but his mother is still alive and living with her twin sisters in Abbeville, a few miles from Greenwood. His mother is justifiably proud of him, as are his aunts, Birdie and Delia. Birdie and Delia are a hoot! I based them on my mom and her twin sister, who we call the Twin Tornadoes. The nickname fits, as it would for Delia and Birdie. All three ladies are Southern, through and through, which is a characteristic I love.
    Is he close to family?
    Absolutely! Very close.
Does this character see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
Like many police officers, Dan sees black and white. He’s not a very flexible man in that regard.
What is your hero’s biggest personal flaw?
His inability to bend or see anything beyond his experience.
Why is Dan so unwilling to believe Cassandra?
In addition to the police’s general distrust of psychics, he had a case where the psychic misled the parents of a missing child and the child turned up dead. He has no use for things he can’t logically explain.
If Dan doesn’t appreciate Cassandra’s “gift,” what does he like about her?
Of course, she’s beautiful. And he comes to see how honest she is and sincere. His mother and aunts like her, which is important. And she has real talent—she’s a renowned artist, in both paint and textiles. Since he makes handcrafted furniture, he admires creativity in all its forms.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

To honor the person who chose to share your story, please answer at least four of these questions. Questions with more than one point should be considered one question. You may answer as many more as you like.
Why do you think your writer chose to write about you?
Dee has a vision of the perfect man and I’m it. Haha! No, really, she had Cassandra in mind first and needed a good foil. So she created a hardnosed, irrationally rational, badass—me. And I’m perfect for Cassandra in every way, both as a nemesis and a lover.
What do you wish your writer had not told others about you?
How mean I was to Cassandra at the beginning. It’s not something I’m proud of and my mama would be real disappointed in me if she knew. Which of course she will if she reads this book. Damn.
Was there anything your writer discovered about you that was a surprise to one or both of you?
Turns out, I have something of a kinky side. I sure as hell never knew it about myself, but I guess Cassandra brings out every aspect of me when it comes to making love. I was surprised but fortunately, neither Cassandra nor I are unhappy about the discovery.
What do you wish your writer would write next?
I think Dee like paranormal, so I believe she should write more of them. She added Passionate Destiny to her paranormal collection, but she should do more.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your writer?
Thanks for opening my eyes to Cassandra’s gifts as well as he beauty. You’ve made me a happy man!

The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #paranormalromance #psychic #PNRDee S Knight, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight

    Genre Paranormal erotic romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
I’m an Iowa girl at heart, so pork chops, mashed potatoes and corn. Add corn bread and butter and some kind of dessert, and I’ll swear I’ve died and gone to heaven!
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
A burger. If I’m feeling particularly fancy, it might be a mushroom Swiss burger. Yum!
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
It might be cliché, but I love Fitzwilliam Darcy. Still. After reading Pride and Prejudice many, many years ago. Lots of people think Colin Firth is the best Darcy, but I prefer David Rintoul from the 1980 BBC production. And “reading” him is even better. I know he’s not a typical hunk, but he makes me heart go pitter-patter.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
Romance (of course!) of all sub-genre, legal thrillers, regular thrillers, like with spies, terrorists, serial killers, etc.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher.” Daniel Goodman is a teacher and he is something else!
