    Interview with Jami Gray

Why did you write this book?
This is the third installment in my Urban Fantasy series, The
Kyn Kronicles. While the first two books follow Raine McCord and Gavin Durand and
introduce the reader into the shadowy world around us, for this book, I’ve loved
Xander since she popped up in the first book, and her relationship with Warrick
held too many layers to ignore. Plus, my critique partners threw down a challenge—”Write
a romance, we dare you.” I hemmed and hawed, only to get “We triple dog
dare you.” Sigh, who’s going to turn that down?
What is your favorite genre to read?
I’m a huge reader, so my taste are wide, but my favorites are
Urban Fantasy and Military influenced romantic suspense.
What is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own characters)?
Oh, that’s a hard one. I first fell in love with Anita Blake
in Circus of the Damned by Laurell Hamilton, but have since gone on to develop serious
feelings for Mercy Thompson of Patricia Briggs’ series, Kate Daniels from Ilona
Andrew’s series, and Joanne Walker from C.E. Murphy’s Walker Papers series. Of course,
not to leave out the male half of the fiction world, I love to spend quality time
with Harry Dresden from Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files. ((wiggles eyebrows))
Do you enjoy films and/or TV shows? Which are your favorites?
I live in a household swimming in testosterone, so films are
a great way to spend time with my boys—wild explosions, furious car chases, we’re
an action flick family all the way. However, I’m a huge devotee to both the ID channel
and the History Channel. Favorite series right now: The Blacklist. Favorite Movie:
right now the boys and I are waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy, but me and the
other half are looking forward to Sin
City: A Dame To Kill For.
What are you working on at the moment, and what are we likely to see from you in the coming months?
I’m just about to begin the second book in my upcoming new Paranormal
Romantic Suspense series, which spins together a mixed team of ex-military psychics,
some serious chases, shootouts, and various other mayhem, all while take out the
baddies of the world. The first book in the PSY-IV Teams (think Cypher), Hunted
By The Past, will be coming out August 26th.
Right behind that book, will be the fourth book in the Kyn Kronicles,
Shadow’s Curse, which should hit shelves Oct/Nov 2014.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Without spoilers, Shadow’s Moon follows Xander Cade, the female
Tracker for the Northwest Motoki wolf pack and
her unexpected bond with her alpha, Warrick Vidis. The two have to find their way
as their relationship shifts under them, even as someone is threatening their pack.
If they can’t find their way to work together, more than them will end up paying
    a deadly price.
Even a wild heart can be broken…
A blonde, a brunette and a monster walk into a bar and all hell
    breaks loose.
It should have been the start of a bad joke, but days from a
full moon Xander Cade, Tracker for the Northwest Motoki Pack, finds nothing funny
about confronting an enraged Shifter in a crowded Portland nightclub filled with unsuspecting humans.
The resulting carnage frays an already thin veil of secrecy shielding the supernatural
Kyn community from public scrutiny, and ensures she can’t escape the one man she’s
been determined to avoid, her Alpha and mate, Warrick Vidis. Dominating, protective
and compelling, Warrick threatens her individuality like no other.
As the Northwest Alpha wolf, compromise isn’t in Warrick Vidis’s
vocabulary, but when his reluctant mate, Xander Cade, refuses to leave off the hunt
for a killer, he has no qualms using whoever or whatever necessary to protect her
or his pack. A series of unusual deaths involving lone wolves, along with anonymous
threats against him and his Pack, begin to jeopardize his normal steely control.
Add in Xander’s continual reluctance to fully accept their Soul bond, and the line
between intellect and instinct begins to blur, leaving him wondering if one woman’s
love and acceptance will be enough to save both man and wolf.
As the danger escalates, threatening not just their Pack but
those closest to them, Warrick and Xander must find a way to trust each other and
accept their rare bond or risk losing everything-their pack, their friends and each
    other.

Abigail St. Michael, a former cop, has joined the recently growing
ranks of metaphysicals, individuals with abilities outside that of normal human
nature. When a murderer stalks her town killing children, Abbey uses her ability
of touch clairvoyance to hunt him down. Her only roadblock is that her murderer
seems to have his own unique talent, the ability to ‘wipe’ his victims and their
surroundings of any metaphysical energy. With little physical evidence and no supernatural
evidence, Abbey is forced to rely on instinct and luck to solve the case. However
both Abbey’s luck and instinct seem to have taken a permanent vacation as the victims
keep piling up with the killer’s escalating blood lust.

    Cedar River,
Michigan is a wonderful place to fall
in love. Some people see change as a good thing, but there are a few others who
can’t let go of the “old ways.” “Breeds should stay within their breeds,” they say.
Adam Thomas is the deputy sheriff in Cedar
River. His black puma shifter side got him released from the military
and sent back home. His demons followed, but they are nothing compared to the ones
    within his pride.
Luna McIntyre is the only daughter and shaman to the McIntyre
pack. She is tired of being smothered and told what to do in regards to her life.
She’s opened a sweet shop and moved forward with her life. However, the love of
her teen years is back in town and her family is trying to rein her in again.
Someone in this small town is so set in their beliefs that they
can’t see how love is sometimes simply love. Cats and canines may be natural born
enemies, but love may be enough to get past the differences.

    Interview

Tell us about your story’s world. What is it like in this
    period or place?
    Natural Born Enemies
is the second book in the Cedar River Series. Cedar River
is a small town of shifters in every shape and size. From the largest nest of dragons
to phoenix, wolves, pumas, and otters, if you are looking for a shifter, you will
probably be able to find it in this series. The town is set along the shores of
Lake Superior, one of the most beautiful places
on Earth. Cedar trees scent the air along with the crisp smell of the lake. Residents
are of different species, but they manage to pull together and help out as a community
    should.
What inspired you to write this book?
    When I finished writing
Keeper of the Golden Dragon’s Heart, I thought I was done. However, Adam stepped
forward and wanted his story told. The more I heard his story (in my mind) the more
I knew I had to tell it. He carries inside of him so much sorrow and pain and because
of that, he is so familiar to me.
    Why do you write?
    Honestly, I write because
if I didn’t, I would lose my mind. I have always had voices in my mind and I thought
I was crazy. Then, I began to sort them into groups or couples and I wrote. Once
I began to write, the voices in my head would slow down and my head was able to
clear. If I didn’t write, I don’t know what else I would do.
When you write, what things do you want close at hand? (Coffee,
water, chocolate… pictures of gorgeous hunks for inspiration…?)
    In the morning, I have
French vanilla cappuccino, the afternoon, water. In my house, there is always a
dog or two underfoot. My earbuds are always close by as well. With the view I have
out my front window (where I write), that is all the inspiration I could possibly
    need.
When you’re not writing, what would we find you doing?
At the age of 40, I decided
returning to school seemed like a brilliant idea. Therefore, if I’m not writing,
I’m studying. When I have time, I am a bookaholic. I love to read. I was a reader
long before I was a writer and I can while away an entire day between the pages
    of a book.
What aspect of your life do you write into your books?
    My real-life emotions
really come out in my writing. I’ve been married for almost 20 years so love is
a must have in my books. I don’t believe in the fairy tale, happily ever after love.
I want my characters to have “real” love. You know, the love where not everything
is perfect. Their relationships are organic and need to be tended. I love to laugh
so humor is a big part of my writing. My husband says my female characters resemble
me in many ways (stubborn, tough, strong).
What other jobs have you held besides writing?
    I spent many years as
a babysitter/daycare worker. I waited tables, did dishes, and cooked at a truck
stop when I was in high school. I also worked in a vet clinic, which was so much
hard work, yet very much worth it. My favorite job (besides writing) has been being
a stay at home wife/canine mom for the last 20 years.
Which of your books was the hardest to write and why?
    Keeper of the Golden
Dragon’s Heart was the hardest because I didn’t want to be a paranormal author.
There are so many amazing paranormal/urban fantasy authors out there and I never
imagined my imagination could compete with them. Once I shut off my inner critic
and let the story flow, I found myself in awe of what I was writing. My imagination
is really an awesome place to hang out.

    Personal Info

What’s the best gift you ever received?
    My first canine kid,
Kodiak. We had just found out we couldn’t have children when my husband brought
her home. She healed two broken hearts.
What kind of music do you listen to while driving? Same question
    when writing?
    When I’m driving, I usually
have country music on. I love the harder hitting music like Jason Aldean and Luke
    Bryan.
    When I’m writing, it
depends on the characters. For Natural Born Enemies, I listened to A LOT of Celtic
Thunder. For Book 3 (which I’m working on now), I have a lot of Clapton, Heart,
Bob Seeger, Santana, and Pink on my playlist.
    What’s your favorite movie?
    Right now, I can’t get
enough of Catch and Release. It’s such a funny, yet wonderfully romantic movie.

    Please complete the sentence

I love pizza with pepperoni and green olives.
I’m always ready for Duck Dynasty (reality television show).
When I’m alone, I take time to
    be girly
    .
You’d never be able to tell, but I am a princess at heart.
If I had a halo it would be held
up by a couple of horns and it would be more than a bit tarnished
    .
If I could live anywhere in the world, I’d stay here
    in the U.P.
I can never give up because my dad taught me to fight
    for the things that matter
    .

Kathleen McKnight, 26, former US Army officer, currently unemployed

    Interview with Connor
    Anderson

    Tell us about yourself.
    What are you like?
Some would say I’m tenderhearted as in if you’re sick, I’ll bring
you through it. My sister sometimes says I’m growly when I don’t get my way. I tend
to be territorial, so if someone encroaches, I’ll do something about it. I’m alpha
all the way and don’t back down. Kathleen would say I’m possessive, which goes along
with being territorial. I’m a great cook and will even wash the pots and pans. Or
I’ll catch supper even when doing so is dangerous to one’s health. Kathleen thinks
I’m hot and sexy, so if you think you might want to take a waterfall shower alone,
forget that. I’ll wash your back and lots more.
What do you think is your
    strongest point?
Protector of those who can’t protect themselves, or even when
    they can!
    Do you have a weakness?
(If so, what do you think it is? What does your lover think it is? What does your
    enemy think it is?)
My weakness is Kathleen. She’s human, which means, paws off.
I want her, but I have to fight that which I know I can’t have.
Kathleen isn’t sure what my problem is. She knows I really like
her, care for her, lust after her. But something is holding me back, but I can’t
let her in on the secret.
My enemies think I’m only human. Only a tourist. Only a man who’s
saddled with two women I must protect at all costs.
    What drives you to do
the things you do? What makes you want to be the “good guy?”
I believe in the simple life—sharing my love of nature with my
sister at their garden nursery in Texas
and visit the jungle when we want to run on the wild side. We’ve had our fair share
of dealing with drug runners in the Amazon, but when Kathleen joins the party, the
stakes get much higher. She’s an innocent, although she tried to help take down
the bad guys when she was in the Army. Now I’m there to protect her…it’s the nature
of the beast. Protect what’s mine that which is part of my territory.
    What’s your favorite guilty
    pleasure?
Cleaning up in the waterfall with a sexy human woman I want to
make my own when I should be keeping my paws off!
    A biography has been written
about you. What do you think the title would be in six words or less?
    Savage Hunger at Its Best
    Tell us an embarrassing
story that has to do with a pet. If you have no pets, a story about a significant
    other will do. ^_^
A snapping turtle bit my sister, Maya, in the lake on our property.
I got out of the lake as quickly as possible, leaving her behind and she’s never
let me live it down. She told Kathleen about it. But the thing of it was, I did
go back later and make turtle soap out of it.
If you came with a warning
    label, what would it say?
Hot, dangerous, wild, and could change your life significantly.

    Please Fill in the Blanks

I love pizza with Pepperoni — jaguars love meat.
I’m always ready for a romp in the jungle.
When I’m alone, I think of you, hot, sexy, and ready for me.
    .
You’d never be able to tell, but I have a thing for women
who get lost in my neck of the jungle
    .
If I had a halo it would be because
I protect those in my territory, no matter what the danger
    .
If I could convince you of how wonderful being a shifter is,
letting that primal part of us roam free
I’d turn you in a heartbeat so you
could share my world with me
    .
I can never commit to a human woman, who was not willing to
    be one of my kind
because she would need to share my love of all things jaguar.
