My name is Kai Okamoto. I deal drugs. Trade escapism for cold, hard cash.
Born to a British Mother and a Japanese father, I grew up poor, hungry, and alone. Hiding from the monsters at our door. The debt collectors.
I’ve worked hard to escape my past. I’m not that frightened little boy anymore. I’m wealthy, secure, and sure of myself. At least I was, until I met Lily.
Lily is a good girl. The kind of girl I should stay away from. I should, but I can’t.
I hate lying to her, but if she finds out who I am, what I do, I won’t see her for dust.

Michelle Abbott lives in the UK and hates describing herself in third person.
She’s a self-published author who loves to write new adult romance about heroes who begin as the underdog and are protective of their girl.
She’s an avid reader of romance, is addicted to coffee and loves wine and chocolate, so yeah, not the most healthy eating and drinking habits :-) She spends way too much time online when she should be writing. She collects teddy bears and occasionally knits a couple of rows on a sweater she started years ago, which she may eventually finish in time to wear for her funeral :-)

Tips to Boost your Self-Esteem by Kryssie Fortune @KryssieFortune #RLFblog #amwriting

Tips to Boost your Self-Esteem by Kryssie Fortune @KryssieFortune #RLFblog #amwritingScared to step out of your comfort zone? Hate to say “no”?

That sums up Kathryn Johnson, heroine in my book, Submission, Secrets, and the Soldier has had her self-esteem squished out of her by her domineering mother. The middle one of three girls, she trained to be a ballet dancer but she grew too tall.

Having lost her dream, Kathryn struggled to find her role in the family. Instead, she spent her time making life run smoother for her sisters. It became a habit, and twelve years later, she still puts her family’s needs before her own. Then, her third ever time at a BDSM club goes horribly wrong.

    Kathryn found these tips helped.

Fake it until you make it.

Standing tall, head up, chest out and arms propped on hips for just two minutes releases testosterone, a confidence inducing hormone. At the same time, your cortisol level drops and you’ll feel less stressed. As one psychology professor put it, Our bodies can change our minds.

    Think—and act—positively

Your body can change your mind, but so can you. A smile lifts my spirits every time. Want another example? Concentrate on what you want rather than what you don’t want. And go for it.

    Master a new skill

Start small. You don’t need to do everything overnight. Learn to laugh at your mistakes and persevere. You’ll get there in time.

    Set boundaries

Do you feel guilty if you say no? I do. Decide how you want people to treat you. Don’t try to fix other people. Instead take responsibility for yourself and if someone doesn’t accept that, walk away.

Take pride in yourself and your achievements.

This is the hard one. Worked hard to learn something? Then decide a million people know more. That’s me. I even dismiss my writing as just erotic romance sometimes. I work damned hard at it so I should stand loud and proud and tell people about it. I guess I’m saying, don’t follow my example.

Talking of writing, please check out my fourth stand-alone, Heroes of Westhopre Ridge novel, Submission, Secrets, and the Soldier.

    Submission, Secrets, and the Soldier

Luke Roberts, a former army mechanic, has a new sub. She’s shy and inexperienced, but willing. As he teaches her about sensation play, she fears he’ll really hurt her and screams her safewords at him. Her reaction causes Luke to have a flashback. Although he’s clawing his way back to normal, he suffers from PTSD. Determined to get well, he contacts a PTSD specialist in Westhorpe Ridge.

Kathryn Johnson has visited a BDSM club three times. When she hooks up with Luke Roberts, he unintentionally terrifies her. She swears off spankings and goes home to Westhorpe Ridge. The last person she expects to see there is Luke Roberts. Circumstances force them to share an apartment. Can Luke protect her when danger threatens? Or is she just a temporary sub in residence?

    Kryssie Fortune Social Media

Kryssie Fortune writes the sort of hot sexy books she loves to read. If she can sneak a dragon into her paranormal books she will. Her paranormal heroes are muscular werewolves, arrogant Fae, or BDSM loving dragons.

Kryssie likes her contemporary heroes ex-military and dominant. Her heroines are kick ass females who can hold their own against whatever life – or Kryssie – throws at them.

Kryssie’s pet hates are unhappy endings, and a series that end on a cliff hanger.

Her books are all stand-alone even when part of series. Plot always comes before sex, but when her heroines and heroes get together, the sex is explosive and explicit. One review called it downright sensual.

Breakup in a Small Town by Kristina Knight @AuthorKristina #RLFblog #contemporary

Breakup in a Small Town by Kristina Knight @AuthorKristina #RLFblog #contemporaryKristina Knight, author of Breakup in a Small Town, answers five easy questions.

    Please tell us about yourself.
Once upon a time, Kristina Knight spent her days running from car crash to fire to meetings with local police–no, she wasn’t a troublemaker, she was a journalist. Her career took her all over the United States, writing about everything from a serial killer’s capture to the National Finals Rodeo. Along the way, she found her very own Knight in Shining Cowboy Boots and an abiding love for romance novels. And just like the characters from her favorite books, she’s living her own happily ever after.
Kristina writes sassy contemporary romance novels; her books have appeared on Kindle Best Seller Lists. She loves hearing from readers, so drop her a line!
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
RadioMan is a master griller, so during the summer and fall months, he takes on a lot of the cooking duties. When I’m cooking, though, I like meals that taste amazing, but that aren’t hugely time consuming. No Peek Chicken is one of my favorites because it’s so easy (1 can of Cream of Chicken soup, 1 box of Chicken flavored rice, 4 boneless chicken breasts). You mix the soup and the rice, put the chicken breasts on top of them, sprinkle a little paprika and cover with tin foil to bake for a couple of hours. Perfection!
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
There are so many! We have a fab Mexican restaurant in town and their chicken fajitas are seriously amazing…I think I could eat there every day and not get tired of the food!
What’s your favorite hashtag to watch on Twitter?
The live streaming ones! I love following along on Twitter during reality TV (especially their finales and reunion shows)!
    Describe the perfect vacation.
It’s me, RadioMan, and bebe. Warm weather, a nice beach, maybe some snorkeling, and no schedules. I’m a simple girl, really.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
I write mainly contemporary, so there isn’t a lot of time-specific research I have to do, but if I have a character who is, for example, a brain surgeon, I would read a bit about their daily lives, the kind of education they’d have. That sort of thing…and if there is a memoir out from someone in a field that one of my characters is in, that’s a must-read for me!
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Adam’s ringtone…hmm…May We All by Florida Georgia Line. Adam loves his small town life, and he would like everyone to experience it, so that song totally fits him.
Please tell us about your latest book.

This isn’t the man she married…

Six years and two little boys later, “for worse” arrives in the form of a tornado that ravages Slippery Rock and injures Adam. Now he’s a stranger to his family…and love won’t be enough to bring him back.
Only when Jenny asks him to move out does Adam become the husband she needs…but Adam isn’t the only one who’s changed. As their attraction sparks back to life, Jenny and Adam must learn what it is to grow up—and grow together—before this small-town breakup lasts forever.

Wolf Holding by Kara James @KaraJames_Autho #RLFblog #PNR

Wolf Holding by Kara James @KaraJames_Autho #RLFblog #PNRKara James, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. I’d like to get to know you better. After we talk, I’ll ask for your bio and social media. Let’s jump in to a Quick and Fun answer session.

    Kara James QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?

I write paranormal romance. Specifically shifters: merging werewolves and Rugby and dragon and other shifters with MMA.

How do you come up with ideas?

I think of a character first usually, then what if’s come next. For my Wolf Binding series, it was: What if a rugby teams goes off on holiday to the Transylvania Mountains and become werewolves? How would they cope and hide their secret from the world?

What is the single most important part of writing for you?

Discovery. I know the characters, the general idea of the storyline and how it will end, but not all the stuff in-between.

When did you write your first book?

Wolf Binding is my debut paranormal romance/ shifter book.

    Careful what you wish for…

Kevin Taylor awakes to his worst nightmare. His leg has been amputated from the knee down because of his motorcycle stunt accident. Thinking his life is over, he broods until a new physical therapist takes over his care and he finds himself falling for her.

Amber Carter loves her job helping people, but she lives with a secret. As a teen, she tried a spell from her family’s grimoire and her parents ended up dead. Now she’d rather just live a normal life. Except when Kevin finds her book and turns himself into a wolf, will she have enough power to fix him?

Book 2 in the Wolf Binding series, but written as a standalone

Kara James is fascinated with Rugby and werewolves. So what better way to bring her two passions together than with bad boy romance in the Binding series?

She also holds degree belts in Karate and Mauy Thai – and was excited to blend MMA and Shifters in her Shadow series.

Kara lives with her family and is a full-time mom and a writer (whenever all the kids are in bed).

    High Country Dilemma by Dena N Netherton @denanetherton1 #RLFblog #contemporary #romance

High Country Dilemma by Dena N Netherton @denanetherton1 #RLFblog #contemporary #romanceDena Netherton, author of High Country Dilemma, answers five easy questions.

    Please tell us about yourself.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and studied to become a professional singer and musician. After performing and teaching for many years, and after I had raised my three children, I retired from the music world and turned my focus to crafting both romance and suspense tales. My years onstage have provided me with wonderful memories to draw upon when I create new stories and new characters. My husband and I are active in our church as worship leaders and teachers. We recently moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
I love seafood. Especially scallops. Oysters, too. There’s a wonderful seafood restaurant I like to go to that sits on a cliff, overlooking the San Juan Islands. They have their own oyster beds. You oyster lovers know what I’m talking about when I say, “There’s nothing like fresh oysters on the half shell.”
    Describe the perfect vacation.
My perfect vacation is only loosely planned. It’s a road trip. We have a few major destinations, but, other than that, we can stop along the way and spend as much time as we want exploring little towns, finding the most memorable road signs, discovering a new ‘favorite’ restaurant, and snapping interesting photos. I also keep a road-trip journal where I record memories of our conversations, how long it took to get from here to there, and things I learned today. Some of my best ideas for stories come to me when I’m zoning out in the passenger seat on I-90.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
The best toy I ever received was—believe it or not—a big box of card stock paper from my uncle who worked at the Post Office. My sister and I spent hours and hours drawing people and animals on the cards, then bending them in half so they’d stand upright. We created a whole ranch, complete with cowboys, dogs, cats, chicken, cows, and fences. I’m so glad I was a kid before computers and cell phones and iPods came along!
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
For High Country Dilemma, I drove to the area and checked out the real-life mountain town that sits where my fictionalized Pine Ridge is located. I took tons of photos, visited museums and stores, collected and studied local maps, and read historical books about the area. I also purchased quite a few books about the animal and plant life in the Colorado Rockies since that’s such a big part of the back drop for this mountain romance. I recorded my observations about the town and the area in a journal. At the time, I was living in Colorado, in another small town about an hour north, so local research wasn’t a problem. I also did internet research on historic opera houses in the mountains so my pine Ridge Opera House would be authentic. I know a couple of firefighters, so I picked their brains, as well as reading library books on the subject of firefighting. You’ll probably think I’m crazy, but I think research is really fun.
Please tell us about your latest book.
High Country Dilemma is a G-rated, (Christian) contemporary romance that takes place
in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I started writing it while I was still living in Colorado, but finished it after we moved to Washington. After I attended a couple of Melodramas, performed in small towns in the Rockies, I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to create a character (Fallon) who comes up to the mountains for the summer to direct Pine Ridge’s annual Melodrama and winds up having to play the main character herself? Of course, her life situation had to be just as complicated and fraught with emotion as Miss May’s, the innocent maiden Fallon plays. And the hunky hero (Lucas) who plays her leading man just had to be her off-stage rescuer, as well.
Fallon Hart has landed her dream job—directing the annual Melodrama, Miss May’s Dilemma. But when Fallon arrives in Pine Ridge, Colorado, she finds her new apartment in flames. To make matters worse, her manager wants her to sing an impossible solo. Her family wants her to give up the theater and join the family jewelry business. And her selfish, controlling ex-finance wants her back. The biggest dilemma of all, though, is trying to make everyone happy.
Handsome firefighter, Lucas O’Farrell, is searching for his soul-mate, a lady who’ll share his love of the mountains, small-town living, and kids. He knows exactly what he doesn’t want: a sophisticated city girl like Fallon. But when they are cast as sweethearts in the Melodrama, the attraction is hard to deny. Before he realizes it, he’s falling for her—hard— and it’s possible she’s starting to love him, too. But is love worth the risk if she’s playing to return to Denver at the end of the season?

Close to the Skin by Zara West @zarawestauthor #RLFblog #Romanticsuspense

Picture of Close to the Skin by Zara West @zarawestauthor #RLFblog #RomanticsuspenseZara West author of Close to the Skin answers five easy questions.

    Please tell us about yourself.

Zara West loves all things dark, scary, and heart-stopping as long as they lead to true love. Born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Zara spends winters in New York where the streets hum with life, summers in the Maritimes where the sea can be cruel, and the rest of the year anywhere inspiration for tales of suspense, mystery, and romance are plentiful.

Swept off her feet by her own Indiana Jones, Zara has followed sheep and goats up and down mountainsides in Greece, Crete, and Italy, been stranded on the banks of the Rhine with no money and one chocolate bar, and while she has never been kidnapped, she has been abandoned on an island in the middle of t wilderness for longer than she wants to remember.
A member of RWA, Zara has won numerous awards for her short stories and novels. Close to the Skin was a first winner in the 2016 Pages from the Heart for romantic suspense.
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
The answer has to be home-made pizza. I have been making pizza every Friday since my children were toddlers. It got to be that all their friends and all our friends started showing up unexpectedly on Friday nights to have “Mom’s” pizza. I stiil make pizza once a week (Wednesdays now) and the kids and their buddies still come to dive in. My pizza secret – use half-cheddar cheese.
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
Right now it has to be Jamie Fraser from Outlander. I loved him when I read Gabaldon’s series. But I just finished binge watching the last two seasons of Outlancer on Netflix so he’s come to life for me. The actor Sam Heughan was perfect for the part. My second favorite hottie is Nathaniel Boomer in Into the Wilderness. I never cared much for the heroine. But she sure lucked out in the amazing lover department.
    Describe the perfect vacation.
My perfect vacation is to have no must dos and no job to worry about and just to be able to sit and write all day. I am pretty much having that now here at my cottage in the Martimes with a view of the sea. Lucky me.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
My father made me a wooden gun that used a rubberband to shoot pieces of cardboard. Not a very girly toy, but I loved pretending to be the hero and sneaking up on imaginary villains and letting fly. I guess romantic suspense was in my blood even then.
    What are your hobbies?
Reading is my main hobby. When I am not working or writing, I read. I read everything. I read biographies and histories, mysteries and thrillers, and scifi and fantasy, historical fiction and paranormal, and of course lots and lots of romance.
After I read, I review what I read on a regular basis. You can find my reviews here, http://www.zarawestsuspense.com/my-books/zara-recommends/ and on Goodreads, https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/50909234
My other hobbies include cooking, gardening, quilting, and spinning and weaving. I did ethnography in Greece living with and studying shepherding and learned how to work with wool and flax there. I have a Greek loom and have sold my weavings professionally at venues such as Bloomingdales, Putamayo, and the Museum of American Folkart.
