Meet Birdie Song, Author of The Guy From The Internet #RLFblog #SweetRomance #OwnVoices

When her new online relationship heads south, a hopeful digital artist must confront her past in order to embrace the future. The Guy From The Internet is Birdie Song’s new sweet romance, coming 2 Nov 2020.

Birdie, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Guy From The Internet.

The Guy From The Internet by Birdie Song

    Genre Sweet Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

A sweet romance with a touch of family drama.

Holly Chee does not have her life together. She’s flip-flopped on uni courses and career choices, and somehow scared off her long-term fiancée-to-be, much to the chagrin of her immigrant parents.

But she does have her streaming channel, where she broadcasts her art from her one-bedroom Mount Lawley apartment. And she has that guy from France… assuming he’s even who he says he is.

“The Guy From The Internet” is a sweet #OwnVoices Asian-Australian romance novella, set in the world of Somerville Downs.

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

Did you know the world’s population is a little over 7 billion? If I were a “one in a million” kind of person, there’d be enough people just like me to fill a medium-sized town. Imagine that! A whole town of people just like you. Anyway, I’ve been told I can be a bit odd sometimes…

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

I’m not much of a talker, but there are some things I could listen to others talk about for ages. Their creative process, for one. I love seeing how other creatives go about doing their work. Another is their garden. It’s amazing when you meet a passionate plant nerd who’s really into the science of it—their passion is contagious!

    What is your favorite meal?

Right now, I’m obsessed with a burger place about 20 minutes from home. Their patties are juicy, the bread is fantastic, and they probably have the best chips out of any other burger place in town.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, starting with paper journals in my terrible juvenile handwriting, but I never thought I could have a career in it until later in life. Outside of my day job, fiction writing has been a way to explore ideas and empathise more with different kinds of people.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

No matter how long I’ve been writing anything for, I still always feel like a new writer myself. It’s good in a way, helps to keep things fresh and interesting, and there’s always something new to learn about the craft. I’d probably tell them that — to hang onto that “newcomer enthusiasm” and try to keep learning new things.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

I’ve got two manuscripts in the works, one (or both!) of which I hope to release next year, but we’ll see how it goes. When I started writing the Somerville Downs stories, I vowed to keep this part of my life light and fun — especially off the back of this interesting year.

Meet Shiela Stewart Author of Discovery in Passion #RLFblog #ParanormalRomance #PNRLiving in a small town may seem safe in Shiela Stewarts Paranormal Romance series Discover in Passion. Until the ghosts of the past demand justice.

Shiela, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Discovery in Passion.

Discovery in Passion by Shiela Stewart

    Genre Paranormal Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Wanting to start fresh, Cassie Evans relocates to the small town of Passion where she moves into the home of her dreams, complete with dreamy next door neighbor, artist, and handyman Thomas Healy. The only problem is, the house she bought just might be haunted.

Thomas Healy lives a life of solitude and that suits him just fine. Then Cassie Evans moves in next door and begins to turn his peaceful life upside down. He tries to ignore her, but ignoring a woman as beautiful as Cassie isn’t so easy, especially when she shows up at your door, naked, begging for you to paint her. Thomas’ first mistake was to agree to it, his second was to take Cassie to bed, now she’s all he can think about.

When their blossoming love is overshadowed by a ghostly haunting, the curious Cassie launches an investigation into the life and death of her home’s previous owner, uncovering a mystery and attracting the attention of a killer. Where will Cassie’s discovery lead her, to the love of her life or to death itself?

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

Well, I once lived in a haunted house. It wasn’t a malicious spirit. Completely opposite. The spirit of the woman who died in our farm house was very helpful in that she would bring my baby sister a bottle if she woke crying, opened the curtains in the morning to let the sun in and set cups on the table or morning coffee.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Anything paranormal. I’m fascinated in others experiences and thoughts of spirits who still remain around us.

    What is your favorite meal?

I’m a meat and potatoes gal. I could eat roast chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy every day if I could.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

I’ve always been a storyteller. As far back as I can remember, I told stories to anyone who listened. As I grew, so did my collection of stories. After filling two boxes of manuscripts, my husband urged me to look into getting them published. It wasn’t easy, but I stuck with it, and to date, I have 15 books published.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

A nice bright bouquet of flowers. Bookmarks for giveaways and merchandise with my books printed on them.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

If it truly is your passion, stick to it. Don’t let rejections get you down or doubt yourself.

Janet, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Tangled Dreams

Tangled Dreams by Janet Lane Walters

    Genre Contemporary romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): 3

Two reasons bring Cancer heroine Janine Rhodes to Fern Lake. The first is the Masters and Doctors program at the nearby university. The second is a letter from a dying woman.

When Virgo Nate Quinn learns about his son’s medical condition, he can barely hold on. Just a year ago, he lost his wife to cancer. His adopted son has become his entire family. When the doctor asks him about the child’s birth parents, he has no idea. He agreed to the adoption but only signed papers and took no other part in the process. Now he needs to locate two people.

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I’m not sure I’m much different from most people though for most of my life I’ve been a book worm. I was married for sixty plus years to the same man who considered my passion for writing as an obsession. He was a psychiatrist so he might have been right. I have an eclectic family. Three children by birth and one a biracial child by adoption. I have four black grandchildren and three Chinese. Guess that might be a bit different. I’ve lived in anumber of states and fell in love with the Hudson Valley of New York. Many of my stories are sited here. I kind of dabble writing mysteries, contemporary romance, fantasy romances and a fantasy series for young people. As well, I’ve written paranormal stories with history in the background. There are also several non-fiction books, two written when I was ghost writing for doctors and one on writing fiction with a good friend. I’m into Astrology and once earned enough money to make a trip to Ireland doing charts for others. I’ve composed music with several being played at the church I attended. So that’s my very almost ordinary life. I’ve been published since 1968 with time out to return to work as a nurse to help children through college. I also have a BA in English and a BS in Nursing.

    What is your personality type?

I’m rather kind of mixed in personality. There are times when I’ m an introvert and bury myself in words, mine and others. I can also be an extrovert enjoying interacting with people. Lately with the Corono virus, I’ve been more introvert.

What was your favorite childhood game?

As a child during WW II, the games we played were all about planning for an invasion. We ranged the hill in front of our house and dug hidden pits in the ground. We also spent time spotting planes. We became adept with Morse Code. There were also the usual childhood games. Telling ghost stories at night and putting on plays for the neighbors. On the street where I lived, there were 2 girls and eight boys of the same ages. Needless to say things were geared to boys.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

Pneumonia is the culprit. I had been married for a few months and during a regular check-up at the hospital where I worked, they found pneumonia. Back then antibiotics were rare and I was allergic to penicillin so the search went on. On my way home, I stopped at the library and took out a heap of books. My aunt brought some more and my sister-in-law sent a shopping bag. Many of hers were medical romances. After reading a half dozen of them, I tossed the books aside and decided I could do better. They knew nothing about nurses, doctors and hospitals. I remember some of the premises even today and shudder. That’s when the quest began and I started reading books about writing. A few years later, I published my first short story and then went on to writing novel lengths.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Finish the book. Don’t keep rewriting the first chapter or chapters over and over until you lose sight of what you want to write. Yes, there are things you know aren’t right and things you may have left out but continue to the end. The end almost always makes you realize when you are finished how much the story and the characters have grown. Then it’s time to start revising. As you continue to write, you will find a system that works for you but this comfort doesn’t start the moment when you first begin writing. You will learn by doing and by trial and error.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

Goals are a great thing to have. For the next while I’ll be concentrating on two series to finish both. One is a contemporary Romance Moon Child series and there are seven out of twelve finished. They are books in the 40,000 to 50,000 length. I am also concentrating on a fantasy series Moon Rising that will have six books in total. I’m on the third. These are longer books.

Meet Karigan Hale @kariganspencil Author of How to Date Your Boss #RLFblog #steamyromanceKarigan Hale, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about How to Date Your Boss.

How to Date Your Boss by Karigan Hale

    Genre Steamy, Contemporary Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Office Ethics Rule #1 – Do not date your boss.

But aren’t rules meant to be broken?

Nora Ridgeway was comfortable in her relationship; her boyfriend was not. Now, jobless, homeless, and boyfriendless, Nora sets out for Washington D.C. to prove to herself–and her mother–that she can actually “adult.” Her “No more bad decisions” policy is tested right away when her new boss proves to be tall, dark, broody, and handsome. Can she resist his adorable dimple and hard abs to keep her job and her dignity?

Andrew Forrester is Mr. I-Don’t-Do-Relationships. He’s focused on his career and doesn’t have time for emotional females. Until he watches his new assistant swimming in a bikini and wonders what it would be like to trace the drops of water on her body.

With his tongue. Unfortunately, rule #1 of having a subordinate is “No touching”. But, what if no one found out?

Can Nora and Andrew figure out a way to navigate a jealous ex and nosy coworkers to find their happily ever after?

All books in the How to Date series are stand-alone but interconnected stories based in the town of Kensington, MD. If you like snarky female characters, steamy romance, and slow-burn sexual tension, then this series is for you!

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I can cross one eye. I am a birth photographer. I once dated an NFL kicker. I don’t like coffee, Tom Petty, or Dumbo. I can tell you anything you need to know about any serial killer.

    What is your personality type?

Somewhere between an A and B. As a first born, I love to be in charge of things. I’m super organized with some things, but also kind of a mess with others. I burn hot and quick and often leave projects unfinished (do NOT look in my “craft room” which is where crafts go to die).

What was your favorite childhood game?

Flashlight tag in the neighborhood. Or Nerts – a card game my entire extended family would play at the same time. It takes speed and hand-eye coordination. And forgiveness–what happens during Nerts games stays at the table.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Serial Killers. Grammar. Books. Photography. Chickens (we have almost 40-that’s over 3 dozen eggs a day!).

    What is your favorite book?

I am an English teacher by day, so my first love is classic literature. I also read almost 100 books a year, so picking a favorite is almost as hard as my male characters. If forced to choose, I would have to say Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. I read that book at least once year.

    What is your favorite meal?

Steamed crabs with lots of Old Bay. Or popcorn. Or Chris Hemworth’s abs…

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I used to write stories all the time when I was little. I became an English teacher because of my love for reading and writing, and I finally got up enough courage to actually publish some of my stories.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

All books in my genre. The more I read, the more I feel confident about the expectations for my genre.

What are your favorite reference books?

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

My camera – I’m a photographer. A notebook and pencil – yes, I’m that old. My computer with my current WIP. Business cards/bookmarks – network, network, network!

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Just do it! Write every day. Even if it is just 10 words or 10,000 words (yeah, right), practice makes perfect. I’ve gotten some great scenes (and also great book ideas) from daily writing prompts that have nothing to do with my current WIP.

What are your writing goals for this year?

I hope to write at least two more books in the How to Date Series–How to Date a Rockstar and How to Date a Millionaire. I’m also working on some spicy short stories and a steamy Christmas in July novel. Hopefully I’ll also be able to start a new series involving teachers–write what you know, right?

What makes you different from other people?

That’s a tough question to answer. I’d say my personality and my ability to help people without looking for anything in return.

    What is your personality type?

I’m outgoing. I love making people laugh. A typical Aries. But I do like my privacy. When I’m writing I tend to stay to myself.

What was your favorite childhood game?

I grew up in an apartment building in Brooklyn, New York. Everyday we would go into the courtyard with our chalk and play hopscotch. I also loved playing stoop ball.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

I love talking about decorating and baking cookies and cakes, sharing my recipes. I also love about books and my favorite authors.

    What is your favorite book?

Lovers and Gamblers by Jackie Collins

    Anything made with eggplant.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

I always loved telling stories. I wanted to be a sports writer. But at the time, it was a hard field for women to break into. But I always wrote poems, short stories and novels. I can’t remember a time when writing stories wasn’t a part of my life.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

Save the Cat! But I find that talking to other published writers helped me the most. They are able to answer the questions honestly without all the fluff.

What are your favorite reference books?

Dictionary and Thesaurus. You can even get them online. My novels take place in settings that I’m familiar with. But for someone writing historical romances, it is important to do your research.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

I always have business cards and swag. Of course in my tote I always carry a notebook and multiple pens.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Don’t give up. Keep writing everyday. Set a goal. My goal is 1000 words a day. Somedays I don’t get there, but somedays I write over 2000 words. Keep writing and mostly importantly, edit, edit and edit.

What are your writing goals for this year?

Desperate and Dateless by Joanie MacNeil

    Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Liam has no time for romance in his busy schedule. Zoe doesn’t consider herself desperate and dateless. Nor is she interested in computer-matched dating.

When they independently receive tickets to the Desperate and Dateless ball from well-meaning associates, their lives become irretrievably entangled.

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What was your favorite childhood game?

I loved to dress up in the clothes my mum didn’t need anymore. My school friend would come to my house on a Saturday afternoon and we’d have fun dressing up, pretending we were other people. My friend’s older sister wrote a short play and we donned clothes much too big for us, and became the characters in the play.

    What is your favorite book?

I have a soft spot for the very first romance book I read. The historical romance, My Gallant Enemy by Rexanne Becnel, swept me away into another world. The story gave me the escapism I craved at the time.

    What is your favorite meal?

A healthy, filling salad with lots of leafy greens, colorful fruit and vegetables, nuts, seeds and protein.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

When in primary school, I wanted to write an adventure novel like the ones I enjoyed reading. Many years later, I did begin to write, not adventure novels, but contemporary romance.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

When I first started to write, during my lunchbreak I would trawl through the bookshop at the university where I worked, looking for that magic fix. My favorite book from that time was Writing from the Heart by Lesléa Newman. A very useful book for a new writer.

The most recent favorite is Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes. A fresh uncomplicated approach to story structure in romance, and helpful for new and established writers.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

A notepad which will accommodate my notes for the duration of the conference plus a few pens; a copy of the program for the day, so that I know where I should be and when. I like to be organized. It’s also good to take a bottle of water, lip gloss for dry lips, and a jacket as sometimes conference rooms can be quite chilly.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

When I began my writing career, the three Ds were often mentioned: dedication, determination and discipline. They still apply today. Get into the habit of writing regularly to develop and hone your craft.

What are your writing goals for this year?

To write at least two novellas, self-publish one or two previously published novels, and complete two other works in progress that have been hanging around for too long. If I manage to complete half of those projects, I’ll be a happy author.
